Leave A Legacy At EPCOT Will Be Moving

When you walk into EPCOT, the first thing that catches most people’s eyes, after the giant EPCOT ball, is the monoliths which house Leave A Legacy. It was recently reported that some major changes would be coming to this area. The changes will be in the form of a new, first-of-its-kind play pavilion. In order to make way for these changes, Leave A Legacy will be moved into a beautiful setting just outside of the park’s gateway.

The Leave A Legacy Program was launched during the Millennium Celebration in 1999. It gave guests the opportunity to commemorate their visit to EPCOT, similar to the “Walk Around the World” program at Magic Kingdom. Like the “Walk Around the World” program, the Leave A Legacy Program was eventually discontinued. June 2007 saw the discontinuation of the Leave A Legacy Program.

The Leave A Legacy program allowed guests to have their pictures taken at photo-capture stations. The photos were then etched onto steel tiles and mounted on one of the 30 monoliths in the Leave a Legacy Plaza. The stones range in height from 3 to 19 feet. The heaviest stone weighs more than 50,000 pounds! In all, there are more than 550,000 tiles that were sold and remain on display.

Disney/Pixar Release SparkShorts Film ‘Kitbull’

Disney/Pixar has released another addition to their SparkShorts film series. The short “Kitbull” debuted as part of three new experimental short films at the El Capitan Theatre, in Hollywood last month. The SparkShorts series is a new Pixar program to develop new storytellers within the company and experiment with new techniques. Developing talent and technology from within the studio has become a hallmark of Pixar’s production and storytelling innovations.

Kitbull tells the story of a stray kitten as he encounters an abused pit bull dog in San Francisco. The unlikely pair slowly bond and discover friendship. The short is directed by Rosana Sullivan and produced by Kathryn Hendrickson. Kitbull has the distinction of being hand-drawn animation which deviates from Pixar’s usual computer-generated offerings. Sullivan said, “I’ve always loved the charm of a hand-drawn image. No two artists will draw the same way, and no two drawings are going to be exactly alike.”

Kitbull is joined in the SparkShorts lineup by Smash and Grab and Purl. Purl tells the story of an unlikely addition to a traditional workplace and Smash and Grab follows two robots as they try to free themselves from their designated constraints. All three shorts have been met with rave reviews by both critics and audiences and are now available to view for free on Youtube.

Freeform Casts Gigi Zumbado, Jessika Van, And Davi Santos In New Series “Besties”

A new comedy series called “Besties” (working title) will be coming to Freeform. Freeform announced that newcomer Gigi Zumbado, Jessika Van (“Seoul Searching”), and Davi Santos (“Tell Me a Story”, “47 Meters Down: Uncaged”) would be cast in the highly anticipated series. They will be joining the previously announced cast of Jordin Sparks, Matt Shively, and Brooks Brantly.

Jesi (Zumbado) is a free-spirited 23-year old Cuban American who was raised by two adoring gay dads. She finds out that she has a half-sister and is more than thrilled about this news. Luna (Van) is Becca’s (Sparks) roommate. She is a brilliant med student and is number one in her class. Despite this, she has no intention of being a doctor. Simon (Santos) is the assistant to a high-powered agent who is constantly at odds with Jesi.

The series is set in Los Angeles. “Besties” will follow Becca (Sparks) and her newly discovered half-sister, Jesi (Zumbado), as they are thrown into each other’s lives by an online genetics test. They will have to figure out how to go from strangers to sisters. The creators and executive producers of this new series are Ranada Shepard, Casey Johnson, and David Windsor. Kenya Barris also is an executive producer. The new comedy series is produced by ABC Signature Studios.

Enchanting 60th Anniversary Sleeping Beauty Bangle By Alex and Ani

In celebration of Sleeping Beauty’s 60th Anniversary, Alex and Ani have released a stunning new bangle featuring Aurora. The beautiful Sleeping Beauty Bangle is now available throughout the Disney Parks and Resorts, and it is even double sided!

The Sleeping Beauty Alex and Ani comes in the Rose Gold color, with a colored enamel circle charm. I love that they chose the rose gold route, it seems fitting for Aurora as Briar Rose. The front has a very sassy looking Aurora, wearing her pink dress with her hands on her hips. She stands in front of her castle, with a small rose detail on the side.

The reverse side of the charm is a very pretty quote design. It reads “True Love conquers all” and is surrounded in flowers and vines. The double sided colored enamel charms are a newer design to the Disney bangles, and I’m absolutely loving it!

Other new Disney Alex and Ani bangles out now are a double sided “it’s a small world” silver bangle, and a Class of 2019 Mickey Grad Cap silver bangle.

Jaden Smith Feels the Force at Disneyland Paris!

American rapper and Star Wars fan Jaden Smith experienced the force at Disneyland Paris by immersing himself in Disneyland Paris’ “Legends of the Force – A Celebration of Star Wars”. Jaden experienced big thrills on the high-speed rollercoaster Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, where he joined the famous Rebel Alliance in their epic battle. Afterwards, he climbed onboard a StarSpeeder 1000 at Star Tours: The Adventures Continue for a 3D expedition in the Star Wars Galaxy.

“Legends of the Force- A Celebration of Star Wars”

An entire season dedicated to the iconic stories from the Star Wars saga is happening at Disneyland Paris! Immersing guests and inviting them to experience Star Wars like never-before, from legendary characters to galactic battles and iconic lightsabers. With the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their favourite heroes such as Chewie or Ray, whilst confronting the Dark Side with Darth Vader himself.

Star Wars: The Galactic Celebration

This night-time spectacular show is not to be missed. At dusk, Walt Disney Studios Park will pay spectacular homage to the Star Wars galaxy with awesome special effects including an amazing sound and light display show. The show will project clips from many of the beloved Star Wars films including unreleased clips from Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Guests and fans alike will also be able to see a variety of appearances from characters like BB-8 to the fearsome bounty hunter Boba Fett! Keep a watch out, for the Empire and the First Order are never far away…

The Stormtroopers:

New for this season is The Imperial March, as Darth Vader will be taking the lead with The Imperial March. showing the true power of the Empire, Lord Vader will gather his Stormtroopers together to show Rebels the power of the Dark Side of the Force.

The March of the First Order led by the charismatic Captain Phasma from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will be making her great comeback. She will be marching with her procession of Stormtroopers of the First Order. So watch out!

During the day, Stormtroopers will break away from the march to patrol the crowds in search of rebel spies!

Legends of a Galaxy Far, Far Away

This spectacular show gives guests a chance to relive the greatest moments of the Star Wars saga, with its legendary heroes on stage and to the sound of epic musical themes by John Williams. Look out for Kylo Ren, Rey and Darth Maul during the show, and for the first time, the fearsome bounty hunter, Boba Fett and adorable droid BB-8. This show will be taking place several times a day on the stage of Production Courtyard.

Between Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration and both Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, it is a great time for foodies to find themselves in Magic Kingdom Park. Here is a roundup of all the delicious food offerings that everyone, including foodies, will want to taste!

Brand-New Cones

There will be three brand-new cones themed after characters, perfect for taking poised photos with! These cones will be available starting on February 24.

The Hei Hei Cone is inspired by our favorite feathered friend from Moana. The Hei Hei Cone features a blue sugar cone topped with raspberry soft-serve, pineapple Dole Whip, sugar eyes, and sour candy. This creation can be found at Aloha Isle in Adventureland which just started to serve ice cream in really adorable Mickey and Minnie themed cups! (These cups are now available at various locations throughout the park!)

The Lost Princess Cone will be able to be found at Storybook Treats. The Lost Princess Cone is purple and is comprised of lemon soft-serve and the most beautiful display of edible flowers. The “Adventure is Out There” Cone is fittingly found in Tomorrowland, at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies to be exact! The “Adventure is Out There” Cone is a blue sugar cone topped with mango soft-serve and a candy balloon piece.

Mardi-Gras Inspired Treat!

The perfect treat to celebrate Mardi Gras can be found over at Liberty Square Market so make sure to “hop” on over there when you visit!

The Frog Prince Whoopie Pie is a cinnamon whoopie pie that comes with graham cracker icing, sprinkles, and a chocolate frog. (Yum!) Just be careful to not kiss it or you may turn into a frog!

Hot Dog of the Month

With a new month comes a new Hot Dog of the Month at Casey’s Corner. The March Hot Dog of the Month stays true to the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Casey’s Corn Beef Hash Dog is topped with crispy potatoes, corned beef, cabbage, and a Blarney sauce drizzle.

Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration Inspired Treats

It would not be a celebration without a few treats to go along, right? Check out these delicious treats that have been introduced for Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration!

The Mickey and Minnie Waffle Sundae can be found at Sleepy Hollow. Mickey and Minnie-shaped waffles are topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, and (of course!) a cherry.

Plaza Ice Cream Parlor will also feature some fun Minnie Mouse-themed sundaes. There will be two different sundaes offered. The Minnie Sundae includes two scoops of ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate cream cookies, and a chocolate Minnie bow. The Main Street Split is a twist on the classic banana split sundae. It includes ice cream and a banana topped with strawberry and pineapple sauces, hot fudge, chocolate cream cookies, and a chocolate Minnie bow.

All three sundaes will be available starting on March 1.

Desserts Found at Select Restaurants

Both Columbia Harbour House and Tony’s Town Square Restaurant have some amazing Mickey and Minnie Whoopie Pies. The whoopie pie is red velvet and filled with cream cheese icing. They are both topped with chocolate decorations. Tortuga Tavern is home to the Mickey Confetti Pretzel which has made a comeback! This pretzel is dipped in marshmallow fluff and topped with confetti sprinkles.

Mickey and Minnie’s Whoopie Pies, as well as the Mickey Confetti Pretzel, will be available starting on March 1.

Even if you are not a foodie, Now More Than Ever is a great time to try some of these amazing snacks that can be found at Magic Kingdom Park!

New Celebration Inspired Disneyland Parks Maps Available

New maps have been unveiled for Disneyland Park this week. Aren’t they festive? These maps really go hand in hand with the celebration theme happening throughout the park as part of the ‘Get Your Ears On‘ celebration of Mickey’s 90th birthday.

‘Get Your Ears On’ includes a special nighttime spectacular, Mickey’s Mix Magic, a unique blend of projections, lights and lasers, and a magical soundtrack of Disney classics and new original songs. Guests will also enjoy the return of the fan favorite Mickey’s Soundsational Parade with brand new floats.

The new maps highlight features of the Disneyland app that can really make your time in the parks more enjoyable and less stressful- such as MaxPass and mobile ordering!

Paper maps can be a useful tool though when your phone is about to run out of battery in line for the Matterhorn, not that I know from experience. So make sure to pick up a map and a daily times guide when you enter the parks each day!

Endangered Sea Turtles Returned to the Ocean

Endangered Sea Turtles Returned to the Ocean

After months of getting treatments and a second chance at life, 16 endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles were returned to the ocean near Canaveral National Seashore, Florida. SeaWorld Orlando rescue team has been caring for the turtles at SeaWorld Orlando’s critical care facility.

Last December, 15 sea turtles were found in frigid waters and rescued off the New England coast by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. The turtles were found suffering from cold stunning. Once rescued, they were stabilized at the New England Aquarium before being transferred to SeaWorld Orlando for more extensive treatments.

Once in Orlando, SeaWorld’s animal team thoroughly examined each turtle to further diagnose and determine a treatment plan for each turtle. After the examines were completed, it was found that many of the turtles were suffering from pneumonia, corneal ulcers, malnutrition, and other effects of cold stunning. Since being picked up three months ago, the turtle rehab consisted of antibiotics, fluids, and special diets, and they are now cleared to be returned to the wild.

Earlier this winter, a 16^th Kemps ridley was rescued from the Atlantic Coast. After a few months of daily nebulizer treatments for pneumonia, the turtle was part of the return to the ocean yesterday.

Kemps ridley turtles happen to be the most endangered species of sea turtles. Habitat loss, human interference, and nest disruption have played a part in the turtle decline.

Since 1980, the SeaWorld Rescue team have rescued more than 2,000 sea turtles along with collaborating with government agencies and partner marine life facilities. Over the years, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has helped abandoned, orphaned, injured, and ill animals, with the end goal to release the animals back into the wild. To date, more than 33,000 animals have been rescued. The animal rescue team is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

While I know SeaWorld can be a touchy subject for some people, at the end of the day, it’s heartwarming to see the endangered sea turtles be returned to the ocean. Without the help of agencies and rescue teams, these animals wouldn’t get a second chance at life. Woody Look-A-Like Lebron James High Tops

There are some new high top Nikes on the market that look oddly similar to our favorite cowboy from Toy Story. The new LeBron Soldier XII FlyEase men’s basketball shoes feature the same color scheme as Woody from Pixar’s Toy Story. Fans on the internet started to make the connection with funny memes and jokes. We aren’t sure how we feel about it.

What do you think? Do they look like a Woody knock off or is it just an odd coincidence? The Nike website says the colors are “University Gold/University Red/University Blue/White”

Disneyland Best Bites for February 2019

After a lengthy renovation, White Water Snacks has re-opened at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. The new space has also inspired a new menu of items for guests to snack on while staying at the hotel, or just stopping in for a visit.

New dishes include fresh sandwiches, skewers, artisanal pizza, and so much more! The best part is this location now uses Mobile Ordering. Download the Disneyland app on your smartphone to order your meal ahead of time and skip the line!

Over at Disneyland Hotel, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar has added two new tropical drinks to their already fully loaded menu. The “Tangaroa Cooler” comes with gin, almond syrup, falernum, angostura bitters, and juices of grapefruit and lemon. The “Sea Monster’s Embrace” consists of dark rums, gin, brandy, passion fruit, falernum, and juices of lime, orange, and pineapple. To top it off, they both come in fantastic new mugs!

These new Tiki drinks pair perfectly with the favorites from the appetizer menu. Panko-crusted long beans, Shipwreck Nachos, and Fried Spam Musubi are just a few popular selections.
