A new comedy series called “Besties” (working title) will be coming to Freeform. Freeform announced that newcomer Gigi Zumbado, Jessika Van (“Seoul Searching”), and Davi Santos (“Tell Me a Story”, “47 Meters Down: Uncaged”) would be cast in the highly anticipated series. They will be joining the previously announced cast of Jordin Sparks, Matt Shively, and Brooks Brantly.
Jesi (Zumbado) is a free-spirited 23-year old Cuban American who was raised by two adoring gay dads. She finds out that she has a half-sister and is more than thrilled about this news. Luna (Van) is Becca’s (Sparks) roommate. She is a brilliant med student and is number one in her class. Despite this, she has no intention of being a doctor. Simon (Santos) is the assistant to a high-powered agent who is constantly at odds with Jesi.
The series is set in Los Angeles. “Besties” will follow Becca (Sparks) and her newly discovered half-sister, Jesi (Zumbado), as they are thrown into each other’s lives by an online genetics test. They will have to figure out how to go from strangers to sisters. The creators and executive producers of this new series are Ranada Shepard, Casey Johnson, and David Windsor. Kenya Barris also is an executive producer. The new comedy series is produced by ABC Signature Studios.
