Disney is rolling out new content on the Play Disney Parks app for the upcoming opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Beginning August 29th, the Play Disney Parks app will allow guests to use their newly transformed “galactic datapad” to interact with droids, take on new jobs, and dive deeper into more adventures on Batuu.

Check out the ways you can experience the Play Disney Parks app while in Galaxy’s Edge:

Translate galactic languages—both written and spoken.
Discover precious cargo and digital goods as you scan objects all around the spaceport including items hidden inside space-shipping crates and containers.
Tune into communications sent by the planet’s many residents to uncover stories and secrets throughout the land, and unscramble transmissions being sent from far, far away.
Hack into the land’s many devices, control panels and droids.

You will have to choose to support the First Order, join the Resistance, or take a chance on your own as a lone scoundrel. You can also earn digital rewards like ship schematics, star maps, and galactic credits with each job you complete!

The Lightsaber Building Experience At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Here Is What To Expect

You are not alone if you are counting down the days until the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Whether you plan to visit Disneyland in May or Hollywood Studios in August you will have the opportunity to experience all the immersive land has to offer. One notable experience blurs the lines between souvenir shopping and attraction, the build your own lightsaber experience.

In an article published last week, The OC Register has given a detailed account of what guests can expect during while building their own intergalactic weapon that just may be the ultimate souvenir.

During their visit to the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu visitors will find the lightsaber building occurring at Savi’s Workshop. The shop proprietor Savi will offer scavenged parts he has collected from his space junkyard. Savi is keeping the shop as secret as possible in order to escape the watchful eye of the First Order.

The experience will last around 20 minutes and reportedly will be kept to small groups according to Chris Beatty, Walt Disney Imagineering executive creative director.

“It’s a very intimate experience,” Beatty said. “You’re in there with only 14 builders and your family.”

Participants will be greeted upon entering by Savi. Once inside the shop, the Gatherers will take over in the Chamber of the Guardians and escort the Padawans into the building experience where guests will choose from four different lightsaber styles. The syles include Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection and Defense.

The lightsabers will have metal hilts and light up blades. The blade color will be determined by one of four Kyber crystals builders will include. The crystals are available in purple, blue, green, and red. Builders will be able to purchase a waistband belt clip to attach their hilt so they are not left carrying the lightsaber. The blades are removable and can be stored as to not get in the way while touring.

For those not wanting the full building experience, prebuilt “legacy” options will be available at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. At this time the price has not been announced for the experience or pre-built options.

Disney Artist Mary Blair Featured in a Museum in California.

Businessperson and art collector Mark Hilbert, along with his wife Janet, founded the Hilbert Museum of California Art in Orange, a few miles from the Disneyland Resort. The couple have been a longtime fan of Disney Artist Mary Blair, about 30 years, because of her fine art.

Hilbert then later decided to add original Disney concept pieces to his collection in his museum by creating “The magic and flair of Disney Artist Mary Blair” exhibit. The couple felt they needed to add her pieces because, “Her work tells a story-and we are a storytelling museum.” Hilbert added, “Disney Artist Mary Blair was considered one of Walt (Disney’s) favorite artists. Her color sense could be compared favorably to Matisse.”

Mary Blair created and designed some of the most iconic images of Disneyland and Disney movies such as “It’s a Small World”. Disney Artist Mary Blair also created the production designs for animated films such as “Cinderella” (1950), “Alice in Wonderland” (1951) and “Peter Pan” (1953). Blair did all of this after joining the Disney Studios in 1940 while “Raising children, Keeping house, and doing my artwork” in an era where few women were accepted in such an environment.

Disney Artist Mary Blair went on to create two paintings during a trip to South Africa with Walt Disney himself, designed a series of Little Golden Books that included Disney designs and designed a pavilion for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York. Her design for the pavilion, created for UNICEF and Pepsi, featured animatronic children, which led to the iconic “It’s a Small World” rides that remains popular at Disneyland today. Blair also created two huge murals in 1967 for Tomorrowland, which are sadly currently covered up with a movement underway to uncover them. Disney Artist Mary Blair then passed away in 1978.

With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening this summer/fall in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, we’re getting excited for all of the new offerings coming our way! As anyone knows, space travel can be hard on the body, and you’ll need a place to fuel-up as you explore Batuu.

Head over to Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo in Black Spire Outpost for the best food in the galaxy. Here a multi-purpose transport shuttle has been docked on top of a huge hangar for traveling food shuttles. It’s like a galactic farmers market – with lots of different options for cuisine.

Tuggs’ Grub

Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has opened a popular mobile kitchen and restaurant called “Tuggs’ Grub”, a “traveling diner for diners traveling,” inspired by dishes he created during his time working for Maz Kanata on Takodana. Let’s take a look at the mouthwatering offerings:

The Braised Shaak Roast features beef pot roast with cavatelli pasta, kale, and mushrooms.

Fried Endorian Tip-Yip is a decadent chicken dish with roasted vegetable mash over an herb gravy.

The Felucian Garden Spread, a plant-based kefta “meatball” dish with herb hummus and tomato-cucumber relish with pita bread; one of the numerous vegetarian options.

Ithorian Garden Loaf is another vegetarian option. Plant-based “Meatloaf” is served with roasted vegetable mash, seasonal vegetables, and mushroom sauce.

Smoked Kaadu Ribs feature smoked country sticky pork ribs served with a blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw.

This amazing bowl is the oven-roasted Burra Fish, featuring Dijon-crusted sustainable fish with mixed greens, roasted vegetables, quinoa, and pumpkin seeds with a creamy green curry ranch dressing.

Oven-roasted Tip Yip, a healthier version of its fried counterpart, features roasted chicken with mixed greens, roasted vegetables, quinoa, and pumpkin seeds served with a creamy green curry ranch dressing.

The Yobshrimp Noodle Salad is a marinated noodle salad with chilled shrimp

Dessert options include a raspberry crème puff with passion fruit mousse and chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse and coffee custard.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo has two children’s menu options: fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and chilled shrimp with vegetables and rice noodle salad with sweet orange dressing.

Ronto Roasters

Another option at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is Ronto Roasters. Here, Ronto’s large pod-racing engine will be firing up a barbecue pit for mouth-watering sandwiches.

Items include the Meiloorun Juice, the Turkey Jerky, and the Ronto Wrap filled with spiced grilled sausage and roasted pork.

Kat Saka’s Kettle

Other vendors in the area will highlight local delicacies, like this colorful Outpost Mix, a popcorn snack combining savory, spicy, and sweet flavors. You can find this snack and others at Kat Saka’s Kettle.

With all of these options and more, I’m not sure what I’m more excited about! Visiting Galaxy’s Edge for the new attractions or trying all of the delicious new food options! What will you try first? New LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie Set Is Sailing In This April

Today the LEGO Group has unveiled the first official images of the new LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie set! This incredible new LEGO set is of course inspired by the most famous cartoon character, Mickey Mouse! Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in a 1928 black-and-white animated short film called ‘Steamboat Willie’, which was also the first Disney film to have synchronized sound, and now we can build that iconic moment to life with LEGO!

The LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie set will be available April 1. The set features a LEGO brick built version of the S.S Willie. The set actually has steam pipes that move up and down and paddle wheels that rotate when the boat is pushed along.

The set also includes adorable new minifigures of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. These figures are inspired by their classic debut looks, and are monochrome to look like they came straight out of the black and white short film.

The set is based on a concept from the fan-fueled LEGO Ideas crowdsourcing platform, in which fans can submit ideas, and if they gather enough support, are considered for development as an official LEGO set. I am so very excited that this one was chosen!

Disney Mickey Mouse fans will love this LEGO® Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie building toy marking the 90th anniversary of the most famous cartoon character ever. Lovepop, the adorable pop-up greeting card kiosk has relocated its Disney Springs location. Last Friday, March 15th the Lovepop kiosk moved from the Marketplace Co-Op to its new home. Lovepop can now be found near Paddlefish in The Landing area of Disney Springs.

Lovepop offers beautifully and intricately crafted pop-up paper greeting cards. The cards have been featured on several shows including Good Morning America, The View, and Shark Tank, and are carried in Lovepop locations, select retail stores, and online. The company was created after cofounders Wombi Rose and John Wise visited Vietnam and were inspired by the cards they saw. Rose and Wise returned to Boston and introduced Lovepop in 2014. More than just a greeting, Lovepop cards are individual works of art that delight the recipients.

Sneak A Peek At Jessie’s Critter Carousel In Disney California Adventure Park

Yee-haw!! Everyone’s favorite rough and tumble cowgirl has officially arrived at Disney California Adventure Park and we have caught a sneak peek. A larger than life version of Jessie can be seen behind the construction walls for Jessie’s Critter Carousel on Pixar Pier.

The Carousel itself appears to still be wrapped in protective plastic, so it is hard to get a sneak peek at the adorable desert critters that will serve as the carousel seats on this wild ride, but Disney has released we can expect animals such as an armadillo, snake, turtle, and a bunny.

Jessie’s Critter Carousel is one of the final attractions to complete the Pixar Pier transformation that began over one year ago. Joining fan favorite rides such as the Incredicoaster and Toy Story Mania, Jessie’s Critter Carousel is sure to have you yodeling when it opens officially in April.
