D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is hosting the sold-out D23 Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse event being held today and tomorrow at the convention center at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Presentations made during the event will include appearances by the Chairman of Disney Parks, Bob Chapek, as well as by Imagineers Charita Carter and Kevin Rafferty.

In addition to the presentations, there will also be a pop-up shop by Mickey’s of Glendale where attendees can shop for souvenirs and Mickey-inspired items. Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of the two-day event is a sneak peek at the Walt Disney Archives Exhibit called “Mickey’s Magical Kingdoms.”

The exhibit will include different historic and iconic photos of Mickey from days gone by. It will also include photos of Walt Disney and Roy Disney, and there will be different items that commemorate Mickey’s history and celebrate all he has contributed over the last 90 years.

All the items in the preview of the “Mickey’s Magical Kingdoms” exhibit work together to tell the story of the beloved mouse who “started it all.”

Big News From the #Shareyourears Fundraiser

#shareyourears

Exciting news! Earlier this month Disney announced that for every publicly shared photo on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #shareyourears, Disney would donate $5 (up to $2 million) to the Make a Wish Foundation. Fans took to social media in droves, sharing their ear selfies in support of this worthy cause.
Today Bob Chapek, the chairman of Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products at Disney made an exciting announcement! The $2 million goal has been reached! But He had EVEN BETTER NEWS: Disney has extended their donation an additional $1million in honor if Mickeys Birthday! So get out there and keep sharing those ears!
We couldn’t think if a better cause than Make a Wish. The foundation grants wishes who are suffering from terminal or life-threatening illness. Every dollar raised helps make a dream come true! You can share more than one, so even if you’ve already shared a selfie, share another and help Disney reach its extra $1 million goal!

The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian is Complete

The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian is Complete

The Gingerbread House at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is now finished.  Can’t you just smell the gingerbread?   This amazing gingerbread house has 5,089 individual gingerbread shingles that were painstakingly placed on by hand.  Each shingle was stuck on with icing by the Floridian chefs.

The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian is Complete

It took the Grand Floridian chefs 2 months and approximately 840 hours of baking, cutting, mixing and then constructing this magnificent house.  When you visit make sure to look closer for the fine details that the chefs have added from sugar flowers to candy smoke rising from the chimney.  Right before the house was completed chefs were seen above the house on a cherry picker dusting the house with powdered sugar snow.   Yum.

The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian is Complete

Notice that this year’s gingerbread house is in a new location.  In years past the house was built on the marble floor near the resort’s lobby but this year it’s standing majestically right in the middle of the Grand Floridian’s lobby where the resort’s Christmas tree has been placed.   Don’t worry.  The Grand Floridian Resort’s Christmas tree will make an appearance soon.

Completely constructed onsite by the amazing Floridian’s chefs, this culinary masterpiece is celebrating its 20th year.    Can you believe this house contains 600 lbs of chocolate?  Ummmmmm.  Chocolate.  -And lots of Pixie Dust!

The Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian is Complete

Guests strolling by can also purchase a variety of items and holiday treats such as fabulous peppermint bark, cookies, and even gingerbread shingles.  Make sure to pick up your own miniature gingerbread house to share with your family.

If you can’t make it in person here’s the next best thing.  Here’s a video giving you a glimpse of the Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

The Gingerbread House is open daily from 10:00 am – 10:00 pm until Jan 1st.  Make sure to plan an extra few minutes into your day for this.  Even if you aren’t staying at the resort take a detour while at the Magic Kingdom park and take a ride on the monorail to the Grand Floridian’s station and then make your way downstairs.  Parking will be limited to resort guests so be sure to use the monorail or park in the Magic Kingdom parking lot if you are driving.

One Disney Fan Gets a Trip of a Lifetime!

Trip of a lifetime

Trip of a lifetimeI’d wager that visit to all of the Disney Parks around the world is on most Disney fans bucket lists. It’s certainly on mine. How cool would it experience the magic happening in all 12 parks?!? For one Disney fan, that dream became a reality! Abc’s Good Morning America surprised Patrice Jenkins, a teacher from Illinois with the trip of a lifetime doing just that!
The trip, which GMA’s Ginger Zee accompanied Jenkins on, took just 7 days and spanned 4 countries on 3 continents. Whew! And we thought going to Four Parks in One Day was a feat! Every day the location was a surprise and GMA shared highlights of the journey on their morning program.
Fittingly, the trip began with the original! The pair flew to California where they experienced the classic attractions that started it all! In California Adventure Park the pair rode the park’s latest attraction: the Incredicoaster. It’s the park’s fastest ride, and it was Jenkins’ first time on an upside-down roller coaster!
Then they were whisked to Paris, where the City of Lights was as enchanting as ever! While there Jenkins and Zee explored Sleeping Beauty’s castle, which was inspired by both the fairy tale and a real French castle: Mont Saint Michel. The duo also checked out the famous Ratatouille ride, where families shrink down to the size of a mouse, and the park’s Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, which is the fastest of all the Space Mountains. With no time to rest on such an adventure, the pair headed from the park directly to the airport.
The next stop for the team was Hong Kong where they had just a few hours to see all the sights before the Park closed. They decided to split up in order to experience as much as possible. While Jenkins hit up the Grizzly Gulch and met up with some of Hong Kong Disneyland’s original characters, Cookie and Duffy, Zee checked out the Iron Man Experience and the We Love Mickey! celebration.

One Disney Fan Gets a Trip of a Lifetime! The next day saw the team in Shanghai where the two welcomed guests into the Park from the balcony of Storybook Castle, the centerpiece of the park. What a dream! Then they were treated to a truly unique experience when they were joined by Mickey Mouse for a lesson with a Tia Chi master! Finally, they caught a show at Walt Disneys Grand Theater- Beauty and the Beast in Mandarin!

In the home stretch now, the next day they were off to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea for an adventure in one of the most unique Disney Parks in the world! The pair visited the parks Seven Ports, taking in iconic and unique attractions in each. They also sampled some if the popcorn the Park has become famous for. The treat is “so popular here the lines can stretch city blocks, ” according to Zee, and featured a rotating list of 25 different popcorn flavors. The day they visited there are 10 of those flavors for sale including strawberry, garlic shrimp, soy sauce and butter.

Finally, the trips grand finale was the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to attend in the world in celebration of Mickey’s 90th birthday! The surprise didn’t end there though! Jenkins husband met her at Walt Disney World with packed bags- the two are headed to a Disney Cruise courtesy of GMA!

We love this story, and have to admit we are a bit envious! What a dream come true for Patricia Jenkins who says she loves Disney so much, she and her husband actually got married there! We know this is an experience she will truly never forget! How many parks have you been to? Let us know in the comments!

Universal Orlando Raises Minimum Wage to $12/Hour

Universal Orlando Raises Minimum Wage to $12/Hour

Starting in February 2019, Team Members working for minimum wage at Universal Orlando will see a pay increase to $12/Hour.

Tom Schroder, a Universal spokesman, states the decision was “long-planned”. Schroder wrote in an email, “Today’s announcement and the related adjustments we’ll be making means an increase in wages for thousands of our team members. As always, we will continue to review and adjust our rates so that we may stay competitive in the market.”

The pay increase was announced the same day that Disney union members held a higher wage rally near the Universal theme parks. President of the UNITE HERE Local 362 Union, Eric Clinton had this to say, “If the bigger two [Disney and Universal] do this, the others will have to follow suit. We think the entire hospitality industry should do this.”

Travis Claytor, spokesman for SeaWorld, has not said if SeaWorld plans to follow suit with minimum wage increases.

It has been shown that Disney has influenced pay increases for other companies in the past. Both SeaWorld and Universal Orlando raised their minimum wage to $9/Hour in 2014 after Disney and their unions agreed to a wage increase from $8/Hour to $10/Hour.

After tough negotiating on both sides for over a year, the unions and Disney reached an agreement to increase the minimum wage to $15/Hour in 2021 with an increase in pay starting at $11/Hour in December 2018, $13 in September of 2019, and reaching $15/Hour in October of 2021.

With both entertainment conglomerates expanding their parks, resorts, and hotels there will always be a healthy competition for good employees to work for them. These much needed pay increases will also help Team Members and Cast Members who live in the greater Orlando area with rising cost-of-living wages.

It is unknown if Loews Hotels, who manage the hotels located at Universal Orlando Resort, will follow Universal’s lead to raise wages.

The Official Chip and Co 4 Parks 1 Day Challenge- Extreme Edition

4 parks 1 day

4 parks 1 day

The thought of doing all 4 parks in one day seems insurmountable to some, just another Tuesday to others. This was a bucket list item for me but being a regular visitors to the parks, I decided to up the ante, so to speak and make it interesting. are lists of rules everywhere, every one of them a bit different but mostly the same… not this challenge. This one is different than the any you’ve seen before, and if you can get on board with the breakneck pf fu.t further ado, I give you the official Chip and Co Four Parks One Day Challenge- Extreme Edition:

The Rules:

  • A Photo With Every Icon
  • Utilize Every Free Mode of Disney Transportation (bus, ferry, monorail)
  • 3 Rides in Every Park (one HAS to be a headliner, sorry,  not getting away with Grand Fiesta, Journey into Imagination and Nemo in this challenge).
  • 3 Meals 1 Snack (meals can be quick service or table service but grabbing a turkey leg on the run doesn’t count)
  • 1 Show in Each Park

I decided the challenge should be able to be completed by anyone, not just resort guests so Extra Magic Hours didn’t count. However, since anyone had the ability to book a pre-park opening breakfast, that did count.

Ready to try it? There are countless ways this challenge can be accomplished but (because I am an obsessive planner) I devised a strategy that I think is best, and it worked out extraordinarily well. Read on to see just how I did it.

The Official Chip and Co 4 Parks 1 Day Challenge- Extreme Edition

Park 1: Animal Kingdom

My husband and son failed challenge straight out of the gate because neither wanted to get out of bed for our 8:00 AM breakfast. However, being the Disney Addict that I am, I kissed their sleeping foreheads and left them behind. I was on a mission.

Breakfast: Pre-Park Opening 8:00 AM at Tusker House. I didn’t make a point to stick around for every character- I was there to fuel up for the mission ahead. I was in and out in an hour, just in time for park opening.

Show: Since it was going on right outside of Tusker House as I left,  I stopped to watch and (awkwardly) dance with the Tam Tam Drummers of Harambe.

Rides: My first FastPass of the day was at 9:30 at Dinosaur. Then I made my way over to Kali River Rapids (and after altering my FastPass for an earlier time on the My Disney Experience App) finally hit Expedition Everest.

Picture: On my way out of the Park I noticed the Photopass line for the Tree of Life was really long so I snapped a Selfie and called it good.
Done by 10:30 am

Transportation 1: Bus

The Official Chip and Co 4 Parks 1 Day Challenge- Extreme Edition

Park 2: Hollywood Studios

My husband and 3-year-old son met up with me here so the pace slowed down substantially. While on the bus I used the App to snag a FastPass.

Ride: First up was Rockin Rolwhided.

Snack: We grabey Bars frt on Slv Sunset Blv. We stopped our picture take with Tower of Terror.

Show: Mickey bars in hand, we went and caught the Noon showing of Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular (and I got to be an extra!)

Rides: Next up was Star Tours, then a mad dash to Toy Story Land for Toy Story Midway Mania (we snagged a FastPass for it). After that, we booked it out of the Park.

Done by 1:00 pm

Transportation 2: Ferry

The Official Chip and Co 4 Parks 1 Day Challenge- Extreme Edition

Park 3: Epcot

Wow did things slow down at Epcot. Lunch, the sheer size of the park, the time of day and busier combined to slow down. It was peak hours during Food and Wine Festival after all. Luckily, we had made great time so far and had extra time to accommodate the slower than desired pace. We did manage to snag a FastPass for Soarin though so that was a big help!

Lunch: Tutto Italiano. (We were on the Deluxe dining plan so we decided to do all table service meals. My recommendation to you: don’t do that. Stick with Quick Service. The break was nice, but the meal took a huge chunk of time.)

Show: Reflections of China

Rides: Grand Fiesta is also always good for a walk on, so we hit that first. Then on to our Soarin FastPass. Finally, we rode Spaceship Earth.

Picture: We stopped for a picture in front of Spaceship Earth.

Done by 5:00 pm

Transportation 3: Monorail

The Official Chip and Co 4 Parks 1 Day Challenge- Extreme Edition

Park 4: Magic Kingdom

Surprisingly, we were all still going strong. Nobody was tired or cranky…yet. I had a feeling we would hit a wall soon. We managed to grab a Fastpass for Jungle Cruise while on the Monorail.

Rides: Jungle Cruise was first, then on to its a small world and finally Peter Pans flight.

Dinner: The Plaza

Picture: Giddy from being so close to finishing we had a bit of fun with our Photopass photographer in front if the Camera.

Show: Happily Ever After.

Done by 9:00 pm.

Victory! So there you have it. We did it. I’d recommend that itinerary to anyone, as I was able to accomplish every goal we set. No one was overly tired though despite the 13  hour day- that was the biggest win of all!

Final Advice:

  • Wear comfortable shoes. I logged 25,000 steps this day, which comes in at around 12 miles. Your shoes will make it break your success.
  • Be FastPass savvy. FastPass- especially same day FastPasses- were crucial.
  • Be Flexible. Rides go down, transportation runs behind, bathroom needs come up, weather cancels shows- have a plan but be ready to Get Into your first Park early. I know I recommended only doing quick service meals, however, breakfast is the exception. By grabbing a reservation time before the Park opens, you out yourself at the distinct advantage of being right in the middle of the Park when it opens.

Most importantly, have fun! If you decide to give our challenge a try, be sure to let us know how it goes for you!

If you’re ready to give it a try, contact me today at [email protected] or fill out the form below to book your ultimate Disney vacation! My services are completely free and I would help you. Let’s turn your Disney dreams into Disney plans!
