Goofy’s Race & a Half Challenge Is Celebrating 15 Years Of Goofy Racing!

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2020 will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Goofy’s Race & A Half Challenge. Runners compete in the 39.3-mile race (half-marathon and full marathon) and earn an additional Goofy Medal for the effort!

This first Goofy’s Race & a Half Challenge took place back in January of 2006 with over 3,000 participants during Marathon Weekend. Of those three thousand, 78 runners have completed the challenge every year for the entire past 14 years! Each “perfect” runner has successfully completed 14 half-marathons and 14 full marathons, totaling 550.2 miles!

The 2020 Marathon Weekend takes place from January 8-12th. Runners of all skill levels are invited to participate in a number of races and multi-race challenges throughout the weekend. runDisney 5K, 10K, Half, and Full-Marathon races are all run over the course of the weekend. Challenges include the aforementioned Goofy (Half and Full Marathons), and the Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, Half and Full). There’s even the add-on of the Castaway Cay Challenge, that includes a 5k as part of the January 13th Bahamian sailing of the Disney Dream.

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Food and Merchandise Guide Released by Disneyland

In anticipation to its opening on May 31st the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Food and Merchandise Guide have been released by the Disneyland Resort. The new guides also feature a full map of the 14-acre land. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge takes place in Batuu and will require reservations to enter for the Disneyland opening. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens August 29th at the Walt Disney World Resort and will not require reservations. To prepare for heavy crowds they are extending Extra Magic Hours.

The map is separated into different sections such as the Black Spire Outpost and The Market. There seems like there will be a nice amount a food spots throughout Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. I’m excited to try the Milk Stand in the Black Spire Outpost. It’s said to have some local favorites and I’m wanting to try some famous Blue Milk. A great thing is there also seems to be a lot of options to Mobile Order your food. Look for the icons on the map. It will be sure to save time and allow more time for looking around and less time waiting for food.

We can imagine there will be no shortage of merchandise at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. From the map we can tell there’s a spot to build your own custom lightsaber and your own Astromech Unit. There also seems to be some kind of toy shop and a jewelry or trinket shop.

Whatever you may be into it seems like there should be plenty to see and do while inside Galaxy’s Edge. While only Millennium Falcon Smuggler’s Run will be open at first, with the amount of shops and food stands there should be a lot to keep you occupied for a while. This cupcake can be found in two locations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The first one is at Restaurantosaurus in Dinoland U.S.A. The second location is at Creature Comforts, the Starbucks location, near the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

This fabulous new treat has a lemon flavored cake and blueberry cheesecake filling. It is topped with bright and colorful icing and chocolate feathers. As you can tell by the name, the design on top is a beautiful bird, perhaps inspired by the magnificent macaws that you can see in a couple of the shows at the park – UP! A Great Bird Adventure and Winged Encounters – The Kingdom Takes Flight.

Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Expands to 87 Days

This year celebrates the 24th annual International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot in Walt Disney World. To celebrate the event has been expanded to 87 days long! This is likely due to the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge which is slated to open the same day as the Food and Wine Festival this year. Disney is trying to lure guests away from Hollywood Studios and bring some other options to control crowds in the parks. Take a look at the line up and details for the festival here:

30 Global Marketplaces, plus additional locations across the festival, will present fresh flavors at a variety of marketplaces such as Africa, where the new Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Tenderloin with sweet potato and corn mealie pap with Kachumbari slaw will tempt guests to return for seconds. At Earth Eats marketplace guests can dig into the new plant-based Cottage Piewith carrots, mushrooms and peas topped with mashed cauliflower and white beans.
The back-by-demand Sunday Brunch with the Chef series in World Showplace Events Pavilion will kick off Sept. 1 with celebrity Chef Jamie Deen and continue on select Sundays through Nov. 17. The chef lineup includes Cat Cora, Carla Hall, Fabio Viviani, Andrew Zimmern, Buddy Valastro, Richard Blais, Robert Irvine, David Burtka, Graham Elliot and Aarti Sequeira.
Three times nightly, the Eat to the Beat Concert Series – 249 concerts in all – will rev up fans at the America Gardens Theatre stage through Nov. 19 with the biggest musical menu of top talent in the festival’s history, including new acts Lauren Daigle (contemporary Christian), Kris Allen (pop, alt-rock), Sawyer Brown (country) and Boyce Avenue (rock, pop). Returning festival favorites spanning a broad range of eras and genres include Plain White T’s, Sugar Ray, Hanson, Sheila E. and Boyz II Men. Showtimes Sundays through Thursdays will be 5:30, 6:45 and 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday shows are slated for 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m.
Eat to the Beat Dining Packages will let guests choose their favorite restaurant for a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner plus guaranteed concert seating that evening.
The grandest of the festival’s hot-ticket tasting events, Party for the Senses at World Showplace Events Pavilion will welcome acclaimed chefs and vintners Sept. 21, Oct. 5, 12 and 19 (All Disney Chef Night!) and Nov. 9. This event showcases creative bites and palate-pleasing sips with sensational live entertainment featuring Femmes of Rock, who wowed guests last year with their blistering solos and innovative arrangements.
“Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It!” hands-on workshops on select Mondays and Thursdays through Nov. 14 will offer new opportunities for guests to work side-by-side with visiting chefs, bakers, mixologists and other pros.
Popular TV chefs and other culinary icons will entertain guests and inspire their palates on select dates at festival seminars and other events. Some of the big names on tap are Bryan Voltaggio, Kenny Gilbert, Maneet Chauhan, Jet Tila, Shaun O’Neale, Keegan Gerhard, Dan Pashman and Rock Harper.
Book & Bottle Signings by some of the world’s top vintners and chefs will return on select dates this year, in addition to the popular The Chocolate Experience: From Bean to the Bar, hosted by Ghirardelli, offering guests samples.
Culinary Demonstrations (available through 16) and Beverage Seminars (available through Nov. 17) will offer learning and tasting sessions select days throughout the festival.

We decided to go big or go home for our first of many trips to brunch here at Lamplight! We ordered 3 drinks and the Mimosa Flight as well! We tried the Cinnamon Toast Cocktail which tasted like a boozy version of the milk left behind in a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. There was such a smooth taste that you hardly noticed the alcohol in the drink, which could be dangerous! Next was the Beermosa which was a citrus punch style drink that had a hint of beer flavor to it. Our favorite part of the drink menu was the Mimosa Flight! They are seasonally changed out and the ones we had were: Watermelon Agua Fresca, St. Germain with Ruby Red Grapefruit, Orange Juice & Ginger, and Creme de Peche with mango Puree! Last, but not least was the Morning Glory which was just Lamplights take on a Bloody Mary.

Even though it’s hard to move on from the drinks because they were so tasty, we had an equally great meal experience! You can’t beat the food at Lamplight!

We opted to try one sweet and one savory off the amazing menu. The Indulgent French Toast; Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Challah Bread, Irish Cream Whip, Maple Syrup, Macerated Berries, and House-made Almond Brittle was heaven in your mouth. It was cooked perfectly and the brittle was so good we wanted to ask for more.

For the savory, the New York Avocado Toast; Sourdough, Avocado Mash, New York Steak, one Egg-Up, Piquillo Butter Sauce, Arugula Salad, Pickled Red Onions, and Confit Potatoes was melt in your mouth flavor! The presentation and taste was spot on for the entire dish.

Disneyland Resort Hotel Pool Has Completed Refurbishment.

The Disneyland Resort Hotel Pool has recently undergone a refurbishment and it is now complete! The Disneyland Resort Hotel pool started the refurbishment in January and is now officially completed.

Guests visiting the Monorail Waterslides are back in full action. The two winding waterslides feature replicas of the original Mark 1 Monorail trains. The Red Monorail slide is approximately 25 ft high and 180 ft long! What a thrill. The Yellow Monorail Slide is more on the relaxing side at only 13 ft hight and 80 ft long. For the smaller kiddos visiting, the two-lane mini slide is designed for them spilling out into a small pool with pop jets, fountains and a surging waterfall.

The E-Ticket Pool, also located at the Disneyland Resort Hotel Pool, pays tribute to the park’s early days. The E-Ticket Pool decorative signs resembles the theme park tickets of early years. This pool is located at the North end of the courtyard plaza.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ is Predicted to Beat ‘Avatar’ as Highest Grossing Film by Labor Day

Avengers: Endgame’ is Predicted to Beat ‘Avatar’ as Highest Grossing Film by Labor Day. The star studded Marvel Studios film, which brought together over a decades worth of content spanning 22-films, has been slowing down in the box office faster than anticipated, but is still expected to unseat Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time.

“It’s slowed down more than we all expected,” BoxOffice Media chief analyst Shawn Robbins told THR, but, “No movie had opened on that level, globally.” Robbins is referring to the record breaking opening weekend, which saw $357 million in the domestic box office and $1.2 billion globally.

He believes that if Avengers: Endgame passes Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time it will occur around September, rather than the previous prediction of mid-June.

Senior media analyst at ComScore, Paul Dergarabedian, says this is due to the two films having completely opposite openings.“Avatar was all about the marathon and now it’s about the sprint,” Dergarabedian said. But the front-loaded Endgame did a “lion’s share of its business in the first few weeks,” Robbins added.

One of the glaring differences between the two films is Avatar had very little in the way of competition in the box office and was in theaters for 60-weeks (which is unheard of nowadays), versus Avengers: Endgame has several films to contest within a shorter run in theaters. The release of Legendary’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu and Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 3, stole the show in the weeks following Endgame‘s release, slowing its progress towards usurping Avatar‘s record.

Avengers: Endgame will have even more competition in the coming months with the release of Disney’s Aladdin which opened this weekend, Warner Bros.’ Godzilla: King of the Monsters (May 31), Fox’s (Now under Disney) Dark Phoenix (June 7), and Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 4 (June 21). In July, Sony-Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 2) and Disney’s The Lion King (July 19) are expected to dominate theaters globally.

“If [Endgame] performs like it has been up to this point, there is about a $10 million to $20 million margin that falls half north and half south of Avatar,” Robbins said. “But it would be surprising if Disney didn’t get it there somehow.”

Only time will tell if/when Avengers: Endgame will pass Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time.

Four New Wishables Collections Headed To Disney Parks This Summer

A few of our favorite Disney friends will be making wishes come true this summer. You can bring home some of your favorite Disney characters, in pint sized versions when four new Wishables Collections debut at the Disney Parks this summer!

Each set of the new Wishables will come as mystery packs! You’ll never know which adorable plush friend awaits you inside the packaging. Special mystery collections debuting this summer are Haunted Mansion, The Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh, and Splash Mountain.

June will see the launch of The Little Mermaid Collection of Wishables. This collection will have mystery packs containing one of the following: Ariel, Ursula, Flounder, Scuttle, or Sebastian!

July will make a splash with the Splash Mountain Wishable mystery packs. Brer Rabbit is joined by some of his “friends” from the iconic ride.

Things will get a little spooky in August when the Haunted Mansion Wishables Materialize. The Hitchhiking Ghosts are joined by the Bride and Hatbox Ghost.

The Madame Leota OtterBox With An Integrated PopSocket Has Materialized

Grim grinning ghosts who like to socialize on the phone are in for a treat! A haunting new Madame Leota OtterBox has materialized at Disney Springs, and it even has a built in PopSocket! Not only is this case adorable, it’s like getting two accessories in one!

This Haunted Mansion inspired OtterBox is available for the iPhone 8/7 and 8/7+ at the Marketplace Co-Op and the World of Disney! The sleek black case has all the protection we’ve come to know and love from OtterBox, with an image of floating instruments just like in Madame Leota’s room in the mansion. The PopSocket acts as her floating crystal ball, with a very cute stylized version of her face inside. The great part about this case and PopSocket, is that the phone grip is actually inset into the case, so your phone will lay flat, and you won’t have to worry about it catching or pulling on things. Madame Leota’s case retails for $69.99.

Another fun find inspired by a classic ride is the new Enchanted Tiki Room OtterBox! This case features our favorite feathered friends on a tiki background, that might even have a hidden Mickey if you look closely! This case is available for iPhone X, and Xs. You’ll find this one at Market Place Co-Op and World of Disney too, and it retails for $49.99!
