Alaska Airlines gets animated with themed aircraft featuring artwork from Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4”

Ahead of the highly anticipated release of Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” on June 21, Alaska Airlines unveiled a special-edition aircraft today. The “Toy Story 4”-themed aircraft, Alaska’s second livery to feature Pixar’s characters, is decked out with toys from the “Toy Story 4” world. The aircraft was revealed to a crowd of surprised guests at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport by Alaska’s own Chief Football Officer Russell Wilson.

“Guests of all ages will be eager to toy with an adventure after hearing the buzz around our new ‘Toy Story 4’ livery,” said Natalie Bowman, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of brand marketing and advertising. “Many of us have grown up following the iconic characters, and we’re happy to take the toys to new heights, sharing the playful, heartwarming imagery with travelers across our coast-to-coast network––and beyond.”

Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Bo Peep span the fuselage while new toy Forky appears on the winglet, sparkling smiles on guests peering out the windows of the aircraft. Guests boarding the “Toy Story 4” aircraft will also see a logo.

“We’ve seen Woody and the rest of the toys in a lot of unexpected places over the years,” said “Toy Story 4” producers Mark Nielsen and Jonas Rivera. “And this time, we’ll see them in an RV, at an antique store and in the inner workings of a carnival. But how many people can say they’ve seen them at 35,000 feet?”

See photos of the all-new plane here:

The unique design is a collaboration between Disney and Pixar and Alaska Airlines. The “Toy Story 4”themed 737-800, tail number N589AS, is now flying throughout Alaska’s route network. With a cruising speed of 530 mph and sporting larger-than-life images of the toys, the aircraft will visit fans throughout the country via transcontinental routes and flights to Hawai’i.

Guests on the aircraft’s inaugural flight were treated to a celebration at the gate and on board, where they were also presented with a complimentary one-month Cinemark Movie Club membership. The membership will allow recipients to see the film at any Cinemark location where “Toy Story 4” is playing.

Disney fans can follow @AlaskaAir on Twitter and at facebook.com/alaskaairlines to learn about promotional activities leading up to the June 21 release of “Toy Story 4.”

UC Irvine Now Teaching Class on Disneyland

UC Irvine Now Teaching Class on Disneyland

You definitely read that right! Students of the University of California Irvine, or UCI, can now take a class all about the Disneyland Park. Imagine studying the architecture of Mainstreet, USA or the mechanics of Peter Pan’s Flight. One UCI professor has done just that.

Associate Professor of Art History and Visual Studies, Roland Betancourt, is showing his students how buildings and attractions in the park work in a specific space. Although Betancourt’s specialty is the medieval period, his knowledge in modern art in a specific space makes him perfect for this subject.

In order to prepare for his curriculum, Betancourt came to visit the park more than 100 times. He rode the Matterhorn 600 times. In addition, he took thousands of photos and stop-motion videos. He studied and took notes of the mechanics of the land and his experiences.

Professor Betancourt wants his students to think outside the box. He challenges them to go past all the history of Disneyland that you can find in any book. Students study and review cast member scripts, watch YouTube videos, and read training manuals of various attractions. Betancourt is fascinated with the mechanics behind attractions like Splash Mountain and the Alice in Wonderland attraction. He captured slow-motion recordings of how these specific ride vehicles operate. Also, he is intrigued by the wheel mechanisms and reviews the patents of certain ride cars.

Challenging his students further, Betancourt takes them on an optional field trip to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. First, they observe a roller coaster, like the Incredicoaster. Then, they focus on the look and sounds of the coaster departure and return. Finally, it’s their turn to ride. At the direction of Betancourt, the students ride the Incredicoaster 6 times in a row! He says that’s how they will really take notice of the workings of the coaster.

Roland Betancourt’s class will be available for UCI students in the spring of 2020. With the recent opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, students can bet that Batuu will be up for discussion for the upcoming quarter.

LEGO Ideas – Spaceship Earth Lego Project Proposal

Spaceship Earth Lego Project

LEGO Ideas - Spaceship Earth Lego Project Proposal

Recently I’ve taken to exploring the projects on the LEGO Ideas website. I fell in love with the Main Street U.S.A. Train station last week, and had to share. Now I’m ogling over the Spaceship Earth Lego Project proposal on the same site!

LEGO Ideas - Spaceship Earth Lego Project Proposal

This very large sized model includes moving pieces, so that the inside pieces will actually rotate! So many details have been added to make this a magical model project, there are all the iconic scenes depicting the history of communication, rotating inside the geodesic sphere.

Here are all of the included history of communication in scenes from the attraction featured within:

  • Loading area
  • Cave drawings

  • Jewish & Islamic scholars preserving recorded information

As you can see this project includes A LOT of mini figures too!

LEGO Ideas - Spaceship Earth Lego Project Proposal

The exterior is made up of hexagons and pentagons, and the designer has created their own custom panels for the iconic Spaceship Earth look. Those panels were made with a Glowforge laser printer, but I personally would love to see LEGO manufacture custom pieces, if this set ever became a reality.

LEGO Ideas - Spaceship Earth Lego Project Proposal

The bottom of the LEGO project has a hand crank on it, that actually rotates the scenes inside!

The designer is hoping to reach 10,000 supporters, and I think this project idea deserves all that support and more! To find out more about this LEGO Ideas project follow this link.

What do you think of this unique Spaceship Earth Lego Project proposal? I think it needs to happen, after all we already have LEGO Cinderella’s Castle, why not have icons from all of the Disney Parks!?

Huge Delays for Guests at Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventures

Huge Delays for Guests at Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventures

Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventures just opened yesterday and in it’s first day had almost a 10-hour wait.  Guests rushed into Universal Orlando yesterday, some waited since the middle of the night before to get in to be the first to ride the new Harry Potter attraction.

This morning guests rushed in again to get their chance on the ride only to find it was delayed and running without guests. Today it seems Universal has adjusted the opening time to allow for planned daily maintenance due to the extended hours it ran the day before. The ride began normal operations around 12:30 today and guests were finally able to get on!

New Disney Snack Topiaries in Downtown Disney

New Disney Snack Topiaries in Downtown Disney

New topiaries are blooming in the Downtown Disney District of some of our favorite Disney snacks!

New Disney Snack Topiaries in Downtown Disney

The Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort has been through many changes in the past year. New restaurants, experiences, and shops have debuted in the area.

Before last summer’s Pixar Fest, abstract depictions of various Pixar characters could be seen in the form of elaborate topiaries. Now, Disney has stepped it up again with a deconstructed Minnie and Mickey Mouse chasing after some familiar treats.

Meanwhile, Mickey’s got his hands full with a Salted Mickey-shaped Pretzel!

It seems as if Mickey and Minnie left this fruit basket behind to chase after the Disney snacks! Who can blame them?!

This summer, check out these super creative topiaries and see what else the Downtown Disney District has to offer. Guests can immerse themselves in unique experiences such as Pop-Up Disney! A Mickey Celebration. This limited-time pop-up experience is great for all ages and great for all those Instagram moments.

Next, if all the topiary treats have made you hungry, visit the new Black Tap eatery. Black Tap serves great appetizers and delicious burgers. Their Crazyshakes are hard to miss though. These over the top shakes come in many different flavors to satisfy anyone’s sweet craving.

Last, if shopping is more your thing (I know it’s definitely mine), make your way over to the World of Disney. Get your fill of all ears, apparel, and merchandise your heart can desire before entering the parks this summer!

Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 Review

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 Review

This past weekend we were invited to watch Toy Story 4 during a 2 day media event at Walt Disney World. Like several other Toy Story fans who grew up watching the movies, I was extremely skeptical about another addition to the franchise.  The addition of new character based off trash named “Forky” seemed like a stretch as well… I have never been disappointed by a Disney or Pixar film in the past but Toy Story 4 had a lot to live up to.

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 Review

We begin our story with Buzz (Tim Allen) and Woody (Tom Hanks)  and the gang in their new room at Bonnie’s. There is a new dynamic that Woody just isn’t too sure for these toys. Bonnie isn’t like Andy…

Fast forward to a new friend “Forky” featuring Tony Hale, a spork made from trash that just doesn’t want to be a toy! Woody takes over and helps Forky learn what it means to be “Bonnie’s toy.” He’s not a fork. He’s not a spoon. And most of all, Forky is not a toy! At least that’s what he thinks. Bonnie created him from an assortment of supplies Woody’s retrieved from the kindergarten trash can. So, it’s no wonder Forky feels strongly that he’s trash and not a toy.

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 Review

As we have all seen from the new marketing and promos released for the film, Bo Peep voiced by Annie Potts is back and better than ever. She is rocking a new look and attitude. We learn that Bo has become a lost toy and find out just what she has gone through to make it on her own. Woody is torn with being loyal to Bonnie and his love for Bo… Cue the tissues!

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 Review

Bringing in a little Canadian flair to the film, Duke Caboom, voiced by Keanu Reeves, plays an action figure that helps the gang in a daring rescue. He is a little sensitive and absolutely a fun new character we love!

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 Review

Huge laughs and lots of sarcasm is brought this time with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, voicing Ducky and Bunny who Buzz accidentally liberates from a carnival game booth. They go on an adventure with the friends to rescue Forky and bring him back to Bonnie.

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 Review

Toy Story 4 wasn’t needed but it was definitely loved. There were tears, lots of laughs, so much love, and best of all some great new life lessons that Disney and Pixar love to throw out there for you. Take the whole family to see this movie. Take the whole neighborhood to see this movie. But see this movie!

In theaters June 21st Toy Story 4 is going to be THE Pixar film of 2019!
