My name is Katelyn and I am a writer with Chip & Co. I recently had the opportunity to attend the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago!
My husband and I went on Saturday which is considered the “family day” of SWC and we had an amazing time!
We started out the day at the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge panel. The panel was opened by Warwick Davis (Wicket) and then later hosted by Josh Gad (Olaf). We had the chance to view a few brand-new video clips of what Galaxy’s Edge will look like on the inside – which is even more amazing than we imagined! We also learned about Disney’s partnership with coca cola for the new land and their involvement with FIRST Robotics.
To support the partnership with coca cola, everyone who attended the Galaxy’s Edge panel got to take home a shirt with “coca cola” written in Aurebesh!
Next, we headed over to the main exhibit hall. This area of the convention was FILLED with Star Wars memorabilia, antique action figures and posters, fun merchandise, a Galaxy’s Edge sneak peek, and cosplayers galore.
After touring the exhibit hall, we attended the Cosplay Competition. There were several participants that spent several months or even an entire year working on their costumes. We especially adored the Disney character/Star Wars mashups.
We loved seeing so many Star Wars lovers in the same place at the same time. Truthfully, our favorite part of SWC was the energy and kindness of everyone around us. All cosplayers were thrilled to take pictures with others and there was no “pushing and shoving” even in the busiest of areas. It’s a wonderful feeling to celebrate a beloved franchise with so many people who feel the same way.
If you ever have the chance to go to a Star Wars Celebration, make sure to take lots of pictures! Here are a few we took below:
May the force be with you!
