Disney Whistleblower Told The SEC About Company Inflating Revenue

Disney Whistleblower Told The SEC About Company Inflating Revenue

According to MarketWatch, a former accountant of the Walt Disney Co. has said she has filed a series of whistleblower tips with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Sandra Kuba, formerly a senior financial analyst, alleges that the company has inflated it’s revenue for years.

Sandra Kuba, who worked in the revenue-operations department and worked for the company for 18 years, alleges that employees working in the parks-and-resorts business segment systematically overstated revenue by billions of dollars by exploiting weaknesses in the company’s accounting software.

A spokeswoman for the SEC declined to comment, but Kuba has said she met with officials from the SEC on several occasions to discuss the allegations.

A Disney spokesperson said the company had reviewed the whistleblower’s claims and found that they were “utterly without merit.”

MarketWatch reports that: Kuba’s whistleblower filings, which have been reviewed by MarketWatch, outline several ways employees allegedly boosted revenue, including recording fictitious revenue for complimentary golf rounds or for free guest promotions. Another alleged action Kuba described in her SEC filing involved recording revenue for $500 gift cards at their face value even when guests paid a discounted rate of $395.

Other allegations from Kuba are that employees sometimes recorded revenue twice for gift cards, both when guests bought the gift card and when it was used at a resort, and that revenue was recorded even though a gift card was given to a guest for free following a customer complaint.

Kuba’s whistleblower filing alleges that in just one financial year, 2008-09, Disney’s annual revenue could have been overstated by as much as $6 billion. The parks-and-resorts business segment reported total revenue of $10.6 billion in 2009, according to its annual report filed with the SEC.

Kuba told MarketWatch she first reported the alleged revenue-recognition issues to management in 2013, and claims that no one responded to her at that time. She stated that she escalated her concerns to a more senior executive in 2016 and that Disney’s corporate audit group contacted her once in November 2016 but never followed up.

The employee stated that she brought her concerns to the SEC in August 2017. Kuba also said she was fired from Disney about a month later.

The Disney spokesperson said: “The claims presented to us by this former employee — who was terminated for cause in 2017 — have been thoroughly reviewed by the company and found to be utterly without merit; in fact, in 2018 she withdrew the claim she had filed challenging her termination. We’re not going to dignify her unsubstantiated assertions with further comment.”

Kuba withdrew her claim challenging the termination but, but says she reserves the right to resubmit it and continues to dispute Disney’s decision to fire her.

Disney-Sony Negotiations Over Contract May End Marvel Studios Spider-Man Involvement

Disney-Sony Negotiations Over Contract May End Marvel Studios Spider-Man Involvement

Disney-Sony Negotiations Over Contract May End Marvel Studios Spider-Man Involvement. Even with our spider-senses we didn’t feel this one coming. With news that Disney/Marvel and Sony had been planning on making 7 more Spider-Man led films after Spider-Man: Far From Home, it appears the studios can not agree on a contract regarding the division of finances made by the Spider-Man films.

According to a report by Deadline, negotiations turned sour after Disney proposed a 50/50 financial split of profits made from the shared Spider-Man led films between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios/Disney. Without proposing a counter offer, Sony reportedly rejected the proposal and wished to maintain their current contract. Sony seems to have faith in the franchise and is not willing to give up the profits so easily, despite Marvel Studios raging success leading the films to a wider audience and helping Sony to develop their top 2 most profitable films of all time for the studio. Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently Sony’s highest grossing film of all time.

Disney-Sony Negotiations Over Contract May End Marvel Studios Spider-Man Involvement

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige was not so forgiving of the gesture and has opted to separate from Sony rather than work out another deal if they are unwilling to budge in regards to how the money from the films is being handled.

So what could this mean for our favorite web slinger? It is being said that Tom Holland and Director Jon Watt are still secured for at least 2 more Spider-Man films by Sony. Producer Amy Pascal is also on hand to continue making films with Sony. Even if Spider-Man makes future appearances in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) the films would be untouched by Feige himself and could mean that Spider-Man could potentially be phased out of the MCU and replaced with other properties such as the recently acquired Fantastic Four, X-Men, or Deadpool from Fox Studios.

With so much outpouring of sadness and anger by fans online, it is unlikely the studios won’t be able to reach some sort of agreement, and the battle over money seems ridiculous on both sides for a character who has been heavily invested in both by the studios and the fans. Only time will tell if Sony and Marvel can play nice for the sake of their amazing stories or if they will truly part ways in the future.

No official statement has been released by Disney, Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, or Sony Pictures.

This Cinderella Loungefly Fanny Pack Features Gus Gus and Suzy!

Cinderella Loungefly Fanny Pack

This Cinderella Loungefly Fanny Pack Features Gus Gus and Suzy!

One of my favorite Disney movie memories as a child, was from Cinderella when the mice make Cinderella a dress! Now that nostalgic movie moment has been captured in a Cinderella Loungefly Fanny Pack! This adorable fanny pack has some enchanting details too!

This Cinderella Loungefly Fanny Pack Features Gus Gus and Suzy!

The first thing I noticed about the bag is the beautiful pink! This poppy color is just like the two shades of the pink dress the mice create for her! A spool of thread unwinds across the bag with actual embroidered stitches, and there is even a real button sewn on to the front. My favorite detail of this bag however, is the adjustable waist strap. It actually looks like a sewing measuring tape, just like the bluebirds used to help measure the lace on her dress. This fanny pack also features gold tone hardware, a front zip compartment, and a main zip compartment, it is also lined inside with hot pink!

The Cinderella Loungefly Fanny Pack is a BoxLunch exclusive, that you won’t find anywhere else! While it is sold out currently online, it is still available at local BoxLunch stores. The enchanting pink hip pack retails for $34.90.

I don’t know about you but I am tapping my foot and singing “Cinderelly, Cinderelly” just looking at this cute bag!
