Disney CFO Says Walt Disney World Is “Full” — But the Reality May Be More Complicated

Disney CFO Hugh Johnston recently stated that Walt Disney World is essentially “filled up,” explaining that Disney cannot massively increase attendance without negatively impacting the guest experience. The comments came during a discussion about Disney’s long-term expansion plans and future growth strategy.

And to be fair, there is some truth there.

Anyone who has visited during Christmas week, Spring Break, or major holiday periods knows Walt Disney World can absolutely feel packed. Long waits, crowded walkways, full dining reservations, and transportation backups can quickly turn a magical day into an endurance event. Disney clearly wants to avoid pushing things too far in those peak periods.

But saying the parks are “full” year-round feels harder to square with what many guests are actually experiencing in 2026.

Disney has already released a long list of aggressive discounts this year, including Florida resident ticket deals, hotel room discounts, and other vacation offers designed to drive demand during slower stretches of the calendar. Companies generally do not roll out that many promotions when demand is already maxed out.

There is also a huge difference between crowd levels depending on when you visit. A holiday week at Magic Kingdom is an entirely different experience compared to a late summer weekday, where wait times can stay relatively manageable for much of the day. The parks may hit uncomfortable crowd levels at certain times of year, but there are still plenty of quieter stretches where Walt Disney World clearly has room for more guests.

That is where the conversation becomes less about physical capacity and more about strategy.

Disney appears focused on maximizing guest spending while keeping crowd levels at a point where the experience still feels manageable. In other words, the goal may not necessarily be to pack in as many people as possible, but rather to balance attendance, pricing, and guest satisfaction in a way that produces the strongest overall revenue.

At the same time, some fans may point out that Disney has reduced certain offerings over the years that traditionally helped absorb crowds. Shorter park hours, fewer live entertainment offerings, and less atmospheric entertainment can make parks feel busier even when attendance is lower than historic highs.

Disney CFO Claims Parks Are Full but Crowds and Wait Times Suggest Otherwise

There is also the perception issue.

When guests hear that the parks are supposedly “full” while also seeing heavy discounts, construction walls, and fewer entertainment offerings than in previous years, it can create a disconnect. For many longtime visitors, the parks simply do not feel as consistently crowded as they did during some of the busiest pre-2020 periods.

Still, Disney’s larger point is easy to understand. New lands, attractions, and entertainment give Disney more room to grow attendance while spreading guests across larger spaces. That is exactly why the company continues investing heavily in future expansions.

So while Walt Disney World may not literally be “full” every day of the year, Disney may believe it is approaching the limits of what the current parks can comfortably support during peak demand periods without adding significantly more capacity.

The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Walt Disney World is certainly busy at times, but there is still a noticeable difference between a truly packed holiday week and a slower off-season day. And until those crowd levels start looking the same year-round, many fans will likely continue questioning just how “full” the parks really are.

Disney World Adds Direct Water Park Bus Service at Select Resorts This Summer

Getting to Disney’s water parks is about to be a whole lot less splash-and-dash stressful for some Walt Disney World Resort guests. Disney has quietly expanded direct bus transportation to both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach from select resort hotels just in time for the busy summer season and the return of the free water park perk for hotel guests.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon reopened on a sunny day Jan. 2, 2022, during the 50th anniversary celebration of Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The water park offers thrilling water attractions and tropical family fun for guests of all ages to enjoy.

Beginning May 26 through September 8, guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels will once again receive complimentary admission to a Disney water park on their check-in day. With both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach operating simultaneously this summer, Disney is expecting a wave pool-sized increase in attendance and is adjusting transportation options accordingly.

Guests staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter can now take direct bus transportation to and from Typhoon Lagoon. Previously, guests heading to the tropical water park had to transfer buses at Disney Springs.

Meanwhile, guests staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney’s All-Star Resorts can now enjoy direct bus service to Blizzard Beach. Before this change, guests typically had to transfer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park reopened November 13,2022 providing guests with an array of arctic adventure amid the warm climate in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Guests experienced the new touches from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Frozen inside Tikes Peak, as well as plenty of mouthwatering culinary creations and popular polar attractions (Amy Smith, photographer).

Guests staying at other Walt Disney World Resort hotels will still need to make those transfers depending on which water park they are visiting. Disney says transportation schedules and pickup locations may vary, so guests should check posted signage or the My Disney Experience app for the latest details.

The expanded transportation options should make it easier for guests to maximize that free water park admission perk without needing to navigate multiple bus connections before even hitting the lazy river. Because nothing says “vacation mode” quite like skipping the transportation side quest before your first waterslide.

Disney Cruise Line Charts Course for Major Global Expansion

Disney Cruise Line is sailing full speed ahead, and its next chapter is looking a whole lot more international. Disney CFO Hugh Johnston recently shared that the cruise line is essentially adding one new ship each year through 2031, growing the fleet to 13 ships as Disney looks to meet demand both in the United States and around the globe.

The recently launched Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure are part of that push, with the Disney Believe expected to follow in 2027. After that, Disney plans to add another Wish-class ship before introducing a new class of three smaller ships. One major piece of the strategy is sending ships beyond Disney’s traditional ports. The Disney Adventure is now sailing from Singapore, while a future Wish-class ship is planned for Japan. Johnston noted that demand for Disney Experiences outside the U.S. remains strong, and cruises give Disney a way to bring that magic directly to new audiences.

He also said the company is not seeing much cannibalization from the added capacity, with ships continuing to fill at strong levels. In other words, Disney Cruise Line is not just adding ships, it is widening the map. More ports, more markets, and more guests getting their first taste of Disney at sea. Looks like the fleet is making waves in a very big way.

Statler and Waldorf Set to Roast Riders on the Reimagined Muppets Coaster

Statler and Waldorf fans have reason to celebrate, as Disney’s latest preview video for the highly anticipated Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets confirms the return of the iconic duo. The legendary hecklers will be making their way over to the reimagined Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction as advanced audio-animatronics, officially carrying over their beloved, sarcastic comedy from the nearby Muppet*Vision 3D theater straight into the coaster’s new storyline.

Statler and waldorf

In the freshly released preview footage of the high-speed coaster, Disney offers a glimpse of the pre-launch sequence that awaits riders. As guests buckle into their stretch limo and prepare to launch toward the Electric Mayhem concert, they are hilariously jeered by the famous pair. Statler and Waldorf make their grand appearance parked right alongside the track inside a custom camper van, perfectly positioned to deliver their trademark insults just before the limo blasts off.

att PQCfavHQZoo YPLSe LfaNdP sPyMIiiA

For many Disney guests, the Statler and Waldorf audio-animatronics will look instantly familiar. The curmudgeon duo was a cornerstone of the beloved Muppet*Vision 3D attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios from its grand opening in 1991 until the theater’s closure in 2025.

In a brilliant nod to that park history, one of the punchlines previewed in Disney’s new video serves as a direct Easter egg for long-time fans. As the coaster vehicle prepares to launch, the pair quip:

“Do we have time to go to the bathroom before the next song?”

“We can’t, you old fool, we’re bolted to the seats!”

This gag beautifully mirrors the grand finale of Muppet*Vision 3D, where Waldorf famously asked if they had time to use the restroom before the next show, prompting Statler to break the fourth wall and joke about their permanent installation in the theater balcony.

Ever since their 1975 debut on The Muppet Show, Statler and Waldorf have been pop culture icons, universally celebrated for their relentlessly cynical commentary and relentless heckling. It was only natural that they became a central component of Disney-MGM Studios’ first-ever Muppet attraction in 1991. Now, their trademark savage humor is officially transitioning into a high-speed format, ensuring that one of the most quotable legacies in Disney theme park history lives on for a brand-new generation of riders.

Are you excited for the coaster to reopen on May 26?

Disney Says Park Attendance and Ticket Prices Are Expected to Rise Alongside Major Expansions

Disney is making it clear that all those massive theme park expansions are not just about adding more rides. They are also expected to drive even bigger crowds and higher prices over the next several years.

Disney CFO Expects Park Attendance & Pricing to Grow With Expansions

Speaking during the MoffettNathanson Media, Internet & Communications Conference, Disney CFO Hugh Johnston discussed the company’s long-term strategy for attendance growth, park capacity, and pricing across both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.

According to Johnston, Disney believes its ongoing expansion projects will allow the company to grow attendance without overcrowding existing parks to uncomfortable levels.

“There tends to be a lot of focus on attendance as a number,” Johnston explained. “But the reality of it is, when you have a big fixed asset like we do, we tend to actually use promotional activities to make sure that we’re filling the park every day.”

He went on to say Disney does not want to simply pack more people into already crowded parks because it negatively impacts the guest experience.

“Without expansion, we don’t necessarily have the ability to grow attendance massively, because it’s already filled up,” Johnston said. “Now, we could jam more people into the park, but then the guest experience declines, and that’s actually bad for the brand.”

Instead, Disney sees major expansions as the key to increasing both guest capacity and overall demand at the same time.

At Walt Disney World, projects already announced include the massive Disney Villains land coming to Magic Kingdom along with the new Cars-inspired Piston Peak area planned beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Over at Disneyland Resort, Disney California Adventure is preparing for a major Avengers Campus expansion that will nearly double the size of the Marvel-themed land.

Johnston pointed to Disneyland Paris and its ongoing expansion featuring World of Frozen as an example of how new additions can significantly boost demand.

And if guests were hoping all this new capacity might eventually lower prices… Disney does not seem to see it that way.

Johnston acknowledged that adding more capacity naturally raises questions about whether Disney would need to lower prices or offer more discounts to fill the parks. According to him, that has not historically been the case.

Disney CFO Expects Park Attendance & Pricing to Grow With Expansions

“When you put in a big, new attraction, you see a surge in demand for it,” Johnston said. “So we tend to fill those things up really, really quickly without having to discount.”

He added that major new attractions can actually create opportunities for Disney to charge even more because guests are paying for experiences that did not previously exist.

In other words, the future of Disney Parks appears to include both bigger lands and bigger price tags. The mouse is building more room in the kingdom… but it may still cost a royal fortune to visit.

The footage gives fans their first real look at Scooter and The Electric Mayhem in action inside the reimagined queue experience ahead of the coaster’s official opening on May 26. And yes, things immediately spiral into pure Muppet chaos.

The scene begins with guests arriving for their VIP tour while Scooter attempts to wrangle The Electric Mayhem during what appears to be an extremely unproductive band rehearsal. Scooter reassures Kermit that the band will absolutely make it to their concert on time, despite having no actual transportation plan in place. Naturally, that is the exact moment Beaker suddenly bursts into the scene, because this is Muppet Labs and workplace safety is apparently just a suggestion.

Disney also confirmed the new Scooter Audio-Animatronic was developed using motion-capture technology based on the real Scooter Muppet performance. Imagineers tracked the character’s movements and expressions to create a figure that moves and emotes with remarkably lifelike accuracy. The result looks much closer to seeing an actual Muppet performing inside the attraction rather than a traditional animatronic figure.

Alongside the pre-show video, Disney shared another look at the attraction’s updated exterior, which continues leaning hard into Electric Mayhem concert energy. The iconic giant guitar outside the attraction has been fully repainted, while a new Muppets concert poster now hangs above the entrance. Guests walking through the exterior queue will also spot individual band posters for each member of The Electric Mayhem.

Even the upside-down limo outside the attraction has gotten a full Muppet makeover, complete with colorful paint splatters, musical notes, stars, and the now-famous “MUPP3TS” license plate.

Rock Around the Shop has also received refreshed theming, including a new Dr. Teeth-inspired sign that looks like it came straight out of a psychedelic backstage dressing room from 1978.

Disney has spent the past several days rapidly unveiling more details from the reimagined attraction, including first looks at the updated ride vehicles, new on-ride photo designs, themed merchandise, and the FØØD by Swedish Chef snack location.

The Electric Mayhem is officially taking the wheel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and these new ride vehicles are looking more like a psychedelic jam session than a stretch limo headed down Sunset Boulevard.

Disney has revealed the first on-ride photos from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, giving fans a closer look at both the new photo packages and the freshly repainted coaster trains ahead of the attraction’s grand opening on May 26.

The former super-stretch limousines have been completely reimagined with colorful music notes, stars, and bold retro-inspired designs splashed across the vehicles. In true Muppet fashion, these aren’t just ordinary limos anymore. According to Disney, they are now “Lengthy Immediate Motion Objects,” or L.I.M.O.s, created by none other than Muppet Labs. Somewhere, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is probably very proud… and statistically concerned.

The new on-ride photo options lean heavily into concert poster chaos and Electric Mayhem energy. One design features the entire band in a purple, blue, and pink neon-inspired frame, while another resembles a vintage “Live in Concert – One Night Only” poster. A third design puts Kermit and Miss Piggy front and center with a glowing pink-and-green “Guest Pass” aesthetic surrounding riders’ terrified backstage expressions.

The reveal continues Disney’s steady stream of previews for the reimagined coaster, including first looks at the updated pre-show Audio-Animatronics, themed merchandise, and the new FØØD by Swedish Chef snack stand menu. At this point, Disney is basically dropping opening-day previews faster than Animal can destroy a drum set.
