Disney Files New ‘Project Fedora’ Permits Near Indiana Jones Stunt Show at Hollywood Studios

Something new may be cracking its whip into Disney’s Hollywood Studios soon. Disney has filed two new construction permits connected to “Project Fedora,” a mysterious development project located directly outside the exit of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular theater.

And yes, “Fedora” is almost certainly a wink and nod to Indiana Jones’ legendary hat. Disney is not exactly being subtle here. 🤠

The permits were filed for the small construction site along 253 Cypress Drive, a space longtime Hollywood Studios fans may remember as the former home of a merchandise truck kiosk before 2020. In recent weeks, props disappeared from the area and sections of pavement were torn up, signaling that something was brewing backstage.

Now, the newly filed permits offer the clearest indication yet that Disney is actively moving forward with whatever Project Fedora turns out to be.

Interestingly, the permits were filed through Disney’s Facility Asset Management division rather than Walt Disney Imagineering. That usually points toward infrastructure or operational construction rather than major attraction development. Still, one of the contractors attached to the permits is Artistic Entertainment Services, a company known for scenic fabrication and themed environment work for Disney and other theme parks.

Translation? This probably is not just somebody replacing concrete and calling it a day.

The project could potentially involve a new Indiana Jones-themed merchandise kiosk, snack stand, themed photo area, or refreshed outdoor space connected to the stunt show. Given the scenic fabrication company attached to the permits, themed props and set dressing seem highly likely.

The location itself also makes a lot of sense for some kind of Indiana Jones refresh. On the opposite side of the theater once sat a dedicated Indiana Jones gift shop, which never reopened after the 2020 park shutdowns. Disney temporarily reused the space in 2023 during the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, turning it into a themed exhibit and lounge experience.

Meanwhile, Indiana Jones as a franchise continues gaining fresh momentum across Walt Disney World. Disney is currently constructing a brand-new Indiana Jones attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to replace DINOSAUR, meaning the fedora-loving archaeologist is becoming a much larger presence across the resort once again.

This latest project also arrives while the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular continues operating under slightly modified conditions. The iconic rolling boulder effect has still not returned following an incident where a cast member was injured after the boulder came off its track.

For now, Disney has not officially announced what Project Fedora will become, but between the codename, the location, and the themed construction contractors involved, it definitely feels like Indy fans may soon have something new to discover at Hollywood Studios.

Mike Fink Keel Boat Landing Has Vanished as Piston Peak Construction Reshapes Magic Kingdom

The wildest construction project in the wilderness continues to steam ahead at Magic Kingdom, and new aerial photos reveal another major piece of Disney history has officially disappeared from the landscape.

New Aerial Photos Show Demolition of Former Mike Fink Keelboats Dock at Magic Kingdom

Fresh images from bioreconstruct show the former Mike Fink Keel Boat Landing has now been completely demolished as work ramps up on the massive Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park expansion replacing Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.

The latest aerial views showcase just how quickly this corner of Frontierland is transforming. What was once peaceful waterfront scenery is now a sprawling maze of dirt grading, retaining walls, heavy equipment, and expanding infrastructure stretching from Haunted Mansion all the way toward Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Perhaps the biggest visible change is the complete removal of the Mike Fink keel boats dock near Liberty Square. Earlier this month, demolition began around the area, but the newest aerial photos confirm the old landing has now been wiped from the map entirely.

For longtime Disney fans, this marks another emotional milestone in the ongoing transformation of Frontierland. The Mike Fink Keel Boats were an original Magic Kingdom opening day attraction inspired by Disney’s Davy Crockett television series. The small boats offered guests a scenic trip around the Rivers of America until the attraction permanently closed in 2001. In more recent years, portions of the dock had been repurposed as overflow queue space for Haunted Mansion before construction walls moved in earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the construction zone itself is beginning to evolve from simple land clearing into something much more permanent. New retaining walls now snake through the site in large stepped formations, particularly near the former riverbank areas beside Big Thunder Mountain. Ground crews also appear to be leveling a massive dirt mound north of Haunted Mansion as Disney prepares new pathways and waterways for the reimagined land.

One major upcoming feature of Piston Peak National Park will be a newly created river separating the Cars-themed area from Frontierland and Liberty Square. The new waterway is intended to help preserve thematic transitions between the lands while still introducing the high-energy world inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise.

The aerial photos also provide a closer look at ongoing refurbishment work on Haunted Mansion itself. Roofing materials have been stripped down to the underlayment while scaffolding remains visible behind guest-facing scrims.

From above, the sheer scale of the project is honestly staggering. The construction footprint now stretches across an enormous section of Magic Kingdom and gives a much clearer sense of Disney’s plans to dramatically reshape the northwest side of the park over the next several years.

Piston Peak National Park is just one half of Disney’s enormous expansion plans beyond Big Thunder Mountain. On the opposite side of the project site, Disney is also preparing for the future Villains Land expansion, which will feature two major attractions, dining, shopping, and heavily stylized “conjured architecture” inspired by classic Disney villains.

Disney’s New Magic Kingdom Ferryboat Is Starting to Take Shape Behind the Scenes

A brand-new chapter in Disney transportation history is slowly floating into view. New aerial photos from bioreconstruct of the marina north of Disney’s Contemporary Resort show construction underway on Walt Disney World’s upcoming fourth Magic Kingdom ferryboat, and the project is finally beginning to look less like scattered steel and more like an actual vessel ready to cruise across Seven Seas Lagoon.

The photos, captured by bioreconstruct, reveal large sections of the ferry’s hull already welded together inside a dry dock at the backstage marina. Another image gives fans a rare glimpse at the transfer platform Disney is using to move materials and eventually transport the completed boat from the construction site to the lagoon itself. Eagle-eyed fans will also spot the beloved Liberty Belle riverboat hanging out nearby like a nautical celebrity cameo.

Disney previously confirmed the new 120-foot ferryboat will be named the “Meg Gilbert Crofton,” honoring the fourth president of Walt Disney World Resort and the first woman to hold that role. Once completed, the new addition will expand the Seven Seas Lagoon ferry fleet from three boats to four for the first time since 1976.

The new vessel is expected to match the classic look and high-capacity design of the current ferryboats: the Admiral Joe Fowler, General Joe Potter, and Richard F. Irvine. Disney has also shared that guests will find a portrait of Meg Crofton onboard alongside a plaque detailing her contributions to Walt Disney World history.

Construction-wise, Disney is essentially assembling the ferry like a giant floating LEGO set. The boat sections were shipped to Walt Disney World in pieces before being welded and fitted together on-site at the marina. Based on the latest aerials, the skeletal framework is already coming together quickly.

Disney says the new ferryboat is expected to enter service sometime in 2027, helping transport guests between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. With crowds continuing to grow and transportation demand increasing during peak seasons, the added ferry capacity could become a very welcome sight for guests trying to avoid those post-fireworks monorail lines that feel longer than Space Mountain with the lights on. 🚢

The announcement has also sparked plenty of debate among Disney fans online regarding the ferryboat’s name. Some fans praised Disney for recognizing Meg Crofton’s role in Walt Disney World leadership history, while others argued the boat should have been named after legendary Imagineers or Disney executives like Marty Sklar, John Hench, or Frank Wells. Meanwhile, plenty of commenters were simply relieved to see the Liberty Belle still afloat and intact in the latest aerial photos.

Either way, Disney transportation fans now have a new construction project to watch as this future Seven Seas Lagoon skipper slowly sails toward completion.

Disney Announces Closing Date for Soarin’ Over California

The countdown to closing has officially begun for the limited-time return of a fan favorite. Disney has announced the final flight date for Soarin’ Over California at Disney California Adventure, making way for the upcoming installation of Soarin’ Across America.

Soarin

According to the official Soarin’ Over California webpage, the attraction’s limited run is updated to state: “Glide above the Golden State’s natural and man-made wonders—February 6 through June 30, 2026.” This marks June 30 as your very last chance to catch the nostalgic California version before the theater transitions to the newly introduced Soarin’ Across America on July 2, perfectly timed for the Independence Day holiday weekend.

The beloved California edition originally took flight this past February to celebrate the milestone 25th anniversary of Disney California Adventure. Typically, the pavilion hosts the standard Soarin’ Around the World film, making this extended, fragrant trip over the state’s orange groves and coastlines a special treat for park-goers.

Debuting as a marquee highlight of the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations, Soarin’ Across America promises to take passengers on a breathtaking journey from sea to shining sea. While Disney has confirmed that this patriotic flight will only be available for a limited time, they have not yet announced exactly how long the temporary run will last.

The brand-new film is scheduled to make its official world debut at EPCOT on May 26. When the Disney California Adventure version takes flight in July, West Coast guests can expect a nearly identical experience to the Florida counterpart—with one major, magic-making exception: the epic fireworks finale will be custom-tailored to feature Disneyland Park instead of EPCOT.

Disneyland Permits Signal a Disney Springs-Style Shopping District

A massive, Disney Springs-style shopping, dining, and entertainment district is officially heading to the Disneyland Resort. Rather than building a third theme park, Disney is preparing to transform the current Toy Story surface parking lot into a sprawling new retail destination.

As first reported by The Orange County Register, Disneyland has filed confidential building permits with the City of Anaheim for the expansive lot located at 250 and 350 W. Katella Ave. While the Disneyland Resort already boasts the Downtown Disney District, this new development will provide vastly more space for a sprawling, Disney Springs-esque outdoor mall. This open-air shopping and dining destination was initially teased back in 2021 as a key component of the $1.9 billion DisneylandForward expansion project, which officially secured city approval in 2024.

Early concept art for the project reveals a layout not dissimilar to Disney Springs, featuring a collection of retail buildings and potentially a hotel wrapped around a scenic central lagoon. While the development will eliminate the massive Toy Story surface parking lot, Disneyland already has a solution in place with plans to construct a colossal new 3.2 million-square-foot parking garage. These newly filed construction permits are currently in the early stages of review by the City of Anaheim.

Disney Awarded 1.6 Million Dollars in Attorney Fees After Winning Moana Lawsuit

Disney Awarded Million Dollars in Attorney Fees After Winning Moana Lawsuit

Disney Awarded $1.6 Million After Judge Calls ‘Moana’ Lawsuit Bad Faith Claim

Disney has been awarded more than $1.6 million in attorney fees after a federal judge ruled that trade secret claims tied to Moana were brought in bad faith by animator and writer Buck Woodall.

The lawsuit centered around Woodall’s allegations that Disney stole ideas for Moana from his own project titled Bucky the Surfer Boy, which he claimed he had shared with industry contacts years before Disney released the hit animated film in 2016. Woodall argued that confidential materials eventually made their way to Disney Animation through family connections tied to a former production company employee.

Disney Awarded Million Dollars in Attorney Fees After Winning Moana Lawsuit

However, the case took a dramatic turn after the court determined Woodall had falsified key evidence.

According to the judge’s order, Woodall falsely claimed he had not seen Moana until 2017 in an effort to work around statute of limitations issues, despite evidence showing he had seen the film in theaters in 2016 and later on DVD.

The ruling also states that Woodall admitted to altering a confidentiality agreement before filing the lawsuit. The document allegedly included the name of a Disney-connected industry figure but was later revealed to have originally been signed by someone else entirely before being modified and backdated.

The judge ultimately concluded the claims were “objectively specious” and pursued with “subjective bad faith.”

A jury had already ruled against Woodall last year after deliberating for only a few hours, finding he failed to prove Disney Animation ever had access to his materials. Because of that finding, jurors never even needed to decide whether Moana was substantially similar to Bucky the Surfer Boy.

Disney Awarded Million Dollars in Attorney Fees After Winning Moana Lawsuit

The judge also sanctioned Woodall’s attorney nearly $476,000, stating the case was unnecessarily prolonged despite evidence that parts of the claims were barred by time limitations.

Still, the situation is not entirely black and white.

Hollywood has a long history of creators fearing their ideas may have been borrowed after pitching concepts or scripts around the industry. Similar themes, overlapping concepts, and parallel storytelling ideas happen constantly in animation and filmmaking, especially when dealing with broad archetypes or mythology-inspired stories. But courts generally require much more than surface similarities to prove legal wrongdoing, particularly evidence that a studio actually had access to protected material.

Disney Awarded Million Dollars in Attorney Fees After Winning Moana Lawsuit

In this case, the alleged forged agreement appears to have seriously damaged the credibility of the lawsuit from Disney’s perspective and ultimately became a central reason the court awarded attorney fees.

Disney has not publicly commented on the ruling, while Woodall’s attorney stated they strongly disagree with the judge’s findings and may pursue appeals.
