Bob Iger to step down as Disney CEO effective immediately, Bob Chapek to take his place

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) Board of Directors announced today that Bob Chapek has been named Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company, effective immediately. Mr. Chapek most recently served as Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

Robert A. Iger assumes the role of Executive Chairman and will direct the Company’s creative endeavors, while leading the Board and providing the full benefit of his experience, leadership and guidance to ensure a smooth and successful transition through the end of his contract on Dec. 31, 2021.

“With the successful launch of Disney’s direct-to-consumer businesses and the integration of Twenty-First Century Fox well underway, I believe this is the optimal time to transition to a new CEO,” Mr. Iger said. “I have the utmost confidence in Bob and look forward to working closely with him over the next 22 months as he assumes this new role and delves deeper into Disney’s multifaceted global businesses and operations, while I continue to focus on the Company’s creative endeavors.”

Mr. Iger added: “Bob will be the seventh CEO in Disney’s nearly 100-year history, and he has proven himself exceptionally qualified to lead the Company into its next century. Throughout his career, Bob has led with integrity and conviction, always respecting Disney’s rich legacy while at the same time taking smart, innovative risks for the future. His success over the past 27 years reflects his visionary leadership and the strong business growth and stellar results he has consistently achieved in his roles at Parks, Consumer Products and the Studio. Under Bob’s leadership as CEO, our portfolio of great businesses and our amazing and talented people will continue to serve the Company and its shareholders well for years to come.”

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to assume the role of CEO of what I truly believe is the greatest company in the world, and to lead our exceptionally talented and dedicated cast members and employees,” Mr. Chapek said. “Bob Iger has built Disney into the most admired and successful media and entertainment company, and I have been lucky to enjoy a front-row seat as a member of his leadership team. I share his commitment to creative excellence, technological innovation and international expansion, and I will continue to embrace these same strategic pillars going forward. Everything we have achieved thus far serves as a solid foundation for further creative storytelling, bold innovation and thoughtful risk-taking.”

Susan Arnold, independent Lead Director of the Disney Board, said, “The Board has been actively engaged in succession planning for the past several years, and after consideration of internal and external candidates, we unanimously elected Bob Chapek as the next CEO of The Walt Disney Company. Mr. Chapek has shown outstanding leadership and a proven ability to deliver strong results across a wide array of businesses, and his tremendous understanding of the breadth and depth of the Company and appreciation for the special connection between Disney and its consumers makes him the perfect choice as the next CEO.

“Mr. Chapek will also benefit from the guidance of one of the world’s most esteemed and successful business leaders, Bob Iger,” Ms. Arnold continued. “Over the past 15- plus years as CEO, Mr. Iger has transformed The Walt Disney Company, building on the Company’s history of great storytelling with the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Twenty-First Century Fox and increasing the Company’s market capitalization fivefold. Disney has reached unparalleled financial and creative heights thanks to Mr. Iger’s strong leadership and clear strategic vision. We believe Mr. Chapek’s leadership and commitment to this strategy will ensure that the Company continues to create significant value for our shareholders in the years ahead.”

In Mr. Chapek’s new role as CEO, he will directly oversee all of the Company’s business segments and corporate functions. Mr. Chapek will report to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Iger, and the Board of Directors. He will be appointed to the Board at a later date. A new head of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products will be named at a future time.

Mr. Chapek served as Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products since the segment’s creation in 2018, and prior to that was Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts since 2015.

As Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, Mr. Chapek oversaw the Company’s largest business segment, with operations around the globe and more than 170,000 employees worldwide. The segment includes Disney’s iconic travel and leisure businesses, encompassing six resort destinations in the United States, Europe and Asia, a top-rated cruise line, a popular vacation ownership program, and an award-winning guided family adventure business. Disney’s global consumer products operations include the world’s leading licensing business across toys, apparel, home goods, digital games and apps, the world’s largest children’s print publisher, Disney store locations around the world, and the shopDisney e-commerce platform.

During his tenure at the Parks segment, Mr. Chapek oversaw the opening of Disney’s first theme park and resort in mainland China, Shanghai Disney Resort; the addition of numerous guest offerings across Disney’s six resort destinations in the U.S., Europe and Asia, including the creation of the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World and the addition of Marvel-inspired attractions around the globe; and the expansion of Disney Cruise Line with the announced construction of three new ships.

From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Chapek was President of the former Disney Consumer Products segment, where he drove the technology-led transformation of the Company’s consumer products, retail and publishing operations. Prior to that, he served as President of Distribution for The Walt Disney Studios and was responsible for overseeing the Studios’ overall content distribution strategy across multiple platforms including theatrical exhibition, home entertainment, pay TV, digital entertainment and new media. He also served as President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, where he spearheaded the successful “vault strategy” for the Company’s iconic films and transformed the primary format of home entertainment from DVD to Blu-ray.

Before joining Disney in 1993, Mr. Chapek worked in brand management at H.J. Heinz Company and in advertising at J. Walter Thompson.

Mr. Chapek earned a B.S. in Microbiology at Indiana University Bloomington and an MBA from Michigan State University.

Season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Feature Some ‘Epic’ Lightsaber Action

Season 2 of 'The Mandalorian' Will Feature Some 'Epic' Lightsaber Action

Season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Feature Some ‘Epic’ Lightsaber Action. Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon for the famed Star Wars Series recently shared some insight into season two, while remaining relatively spoiler free. Esposito made an appearance at FAN EXPO Vancouver

“The prop guys are wondering about me because I was in a bit of a commotion and a bit of a struggle with someone else, which I’m hoping you will enjoy when you see it,” Esposito said during the expo. “Major, major, epic, epic lightsaber action happening on this show, and I should mention that I’m the only character in this first season who was able to be honored with having that lightsaber. So it feels wonderful.”

After Giancarlo’s comment buzz immediately began that Moff Gideon may be in an epic battle with the internet’s favorite Star Wars character, The Child, aka “Baby Yoda”, to which Esposito quickly backtracked to clarify his meaning.

“Well, no way. [Laughs],” Esposito added. “It ain’t gonna happen, baby! Anything is possible, and you keep watching. Because although the baby has some incredible power, without having to wield the Darksaber, I think the baby is so curious about what this is. So you will be enthused and inspired when you see the scene I’m referring to in Season 2, which is to come in October. Keep watching.”

This does beg the question then, who does Moff Gideon battle with? Will he go after Din Jerrin (Mando) or is there another character that has yet to be introduced in the series that will give Gideon some trouble? Though we don’t know the answers to these questions, we can not wait for season 2 to premiere in October 2020!

Impossible Foods will serve as preferred plant-based burger for Disney World, Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line

Impossible Foods will serve as preferred plant-based burger for Disney World, Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line

Disney announced today that they are teaming up with Impossible Foods as it works to expand its plant-based menu options across all of its theme parks, resorts, and cruise lines in the US. As part of the partnership, Impossible Foods will serve as Disney’s preferred plant-based “burger” vendor, and the Impossible Burger will soon be available at restaurant locations at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the Disneyland Resort in California, and Disney Cruise Line ships.

On February 28, Disney will debut Impossible Foods menu items at the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, including:

  • Petite Impossible™ Burger with Guac and Pepper Jack Cheese at Avocado Time Marketplace
  • Impossible™ Cheeseburger Mac & Cheese at Nuts About Cheese Marketplace
  • Impossible™ Meatball Submarine at Paradise Garden Grill

The award-winning, plant-based Impossible Burger will soon be available at multiple locations across Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort and Disney Cruise Line, including Tony’s Town Square Restaurant in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World® Resort, Smokejumpers Grill in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland® Resort and more.

The alliance follows Disney’s September 2019 announcement of plans to add plant-based options at all major quick and table service dining locations in their U.S. theme parks. More than 400 plant-based dishes are now available at Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida, and more will be available at Disneyland® Resort in California in spring 2020.

“We are thrilled to be working with Disney,” said Dennis Woodside, President of Impossible Foods. “The millions of park-goers who visit Disney Parks and Resorts and sail on Disney Cruise Line each year – including those who are reducing their impact on the environment by eating less meat – will now be able to order the Impossible Burger and other delicious dishes made with our plant-based meat. We look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead with this new relationship.”

“We’re excited to add more items featuring the Impossible Burger to our menus,” said Chef John State, Culinary Director at Disneyland Resort. “We’re always looking for ways to bring more flavor, innovation and creativity to the Disney dining experience and we’re delighted to include Impossible Foods in new dishes that our guests and fans are sure to enjoy.”

Impossible Foods Head of Culinary, J Michael Melton, will be offering live demonstrations on March 7 and March 8 as part of the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival.

Delicious, Nutritious, Sustainable

Impossible Burger is the flagship product from Impossible Foods, Inc. Magazine’s company of the year and one of Time Magazine’s 50 Genius companies. The award-winning product rivals ground beef from cows for taste — and it’s nutritious and versatile.

Impossible Burger has as much bioavailable iron and protein as a comparable serving of ground beef from cows. A 4-ounce serving of Impossible Burger has 0 mg cholesterol, 14 grams of total fat, 8g of saturated fat and 240 calories. (A conventional 4-ounce “80/20” patty from cows has 80 mg cholesterol, 23 grams of total fat, 9g of saturated fat and 290 calories.)

Impossible Burger contains no animal hormones or antibiotics, and is kosher, halal and gluten-free certified. And because it’s made from plants, it uses 96% less land, 87% less water and 89% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional beef from cows.

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

Disney Publishing Worldwide has announced the launch of an all new publishing-led Star Wars storytelling initiative, Star Wars: The High Republic, previously called “Project Luminous.” The publishing program will feature interconnected stories told across multiple publishers. This epic saga will take place 200 years prior to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in an all new time period. Newly revealed publishers Abrams, becker&mayer!, DK, Insight Editions, Titan Publishing, and Viz Media join previously announced Disney Lucasfilm Press, Marvel Comics, Del Rey, and IDW Publishing.

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

Star Wars: The High Republic is set in an era when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their height, serving and protecting the galaxy. This is a hopeful, optimistic time, when the Republic and the Jedi are noble and respected. This multi-year publishing program will be rolled out in phases, with Phase I being called “Light of the Jedi.” This period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap any of the films or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners space to tell Star Wars stories in a never-before-explored timeline.

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

“We are so excited to be opening up such a rich, fertile era for our authors to explore,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “We’ll get to see the Jedi in their prime.”

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

Star Wars: The High Republic will feature stories from high-profile, fan-favorite authors Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, and Cavan Scott. The first books and comics are set to debut at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in August 2020, and select titles are available now for pre-order.

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

Star Wars: The High Republic will allow creators to imagine entirely original stories in a new corner of the galaxy. Our incredible team of authors worked together alongside the Lucasfilm Story Group and Publishing teams to help craft a completely new era for the franchise that begins with Publishing,” says Lucasfilm Press Creative Director Michael Siglain.

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

The following titles were announced at a press event on Monday Night:

STAR WARS: Project Luminous Revealed to be Star Wars: The High Republic

The Kringla Bakeri is found in the Norway portion of Epcot’s World Showcase.  There you can always find yummy treats and drinks, school bread being one of the favorites.  This brownie was $5.99 but could also be a snack credit if you are using the dining plan.  There is no indication if this will be a short term menu item or if this brownie ie here to stay!
