Gov Newsom says mask mandate to end after June 15th

California Governor Gavin Newsom said today that the state will end the mask mandate for most circumstances on June 15, 2021. This announcement comes after the CDC changed guidelines for vaccinated individuals in regards to mask wearing.

“We’re not wearing face coverings. We’re not restricted in any way, shape or form from doing the old things that we used to do, save for huge, large-scale indoor convention events like that, where we use our common sense,” Newsom said in an interview with Fox 11.

Back in April Newsom announced he would lift most of the state’s coronavirus restrictions on June 15 but at the time he was not budging on the mask mandate. Today, he changed his stance saying masks would be required “only for those massively large settings where people from around the world, not just around the country, are conversing.”

Newsom also said the state would make recommendations but there would be no mandates or restrictions on businesses. It looks like California will be like Florida and allow businesses to decide what health and safety guidelines to enact.

Disneyland and Universal Hollywood are private businesses and will still have their own guidelines and rules. Theme parks might also fall under Newsom’s “large settings” which would still require guests to wear masks.

For now, face masks are required for all guests age 2 and up visiting Disneyland.

Walt Disney World to start Increasing Park Capacity

Walt Disney World to start Increasing Park Capacity

Walt Disney World is working on increasing theme park capacity after the CDC and state of Florida released new guidelines. As far as we knew, the parks were previously operating at 35% capacity.

The CDC released new guidance today regarding vaccinated individuals and mask requirements. Disney CEO Bob Chapek made a statement regarding that guidance and park capacity.

Related – Disney World no longer leaving trash cans open

In terms of the parks, and when we’re going to sort of be able to raise our capacity limits, we’ve actually already started that. Given the guidance that just came today, from the CDC, and earlier guidance that we got from the governor of Florida, we’ve already started to increase our capacities.

So I think you’re going to see an immediate increase in the number of folks that we’re able to admit into our parks through our reservation systems that we recently implemented. So we’re very, very excited about that.

Chapek also shared that guests should see an immediate increase in park pass reservation availability and that park capacity will continue to be increased.

He did not say at what capacity the parks will now be operating but we expect more and more guests to be able to visit over the coming months.

If you have been hoping for park reservations to open for a specific day, be on the look out for them to become available!

CDC to Allow Fully Vaccinated People to go Maskless

WDW
weekly roundup

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Thursday they will ease indoor mask-wearing guidelines for fully vaccinated people, allowing them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places according to AP.

The new guidelines still call for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters, but could ease restrictions for reopening workplaces, schools, and other venues.

With Governor DeSantis signing an executive order on May 3rd ending all COVID-19 restrictions in the state it is only a matter of time before vaccinated guests will be able to go maskless at the theme parks once again.

Just released yesterday on the Walt Disney World website, the resort is going to reduce physical distancing measures for guests across many areas. The 6-foot physical distancing measures will remain in place in all dining locations, merchandise stores, and areas where guests can temporarily remove their masks (like relaxation stations). The site has also removed its wording regarding cars being parked in every other space at theme parks.

WINNIE THE POOH APPLE PIE

INGREDIENTS:

Pie

  • 2 sheets of store-bought pie dough
  • 9″ pie pan
  • Winnie the Pooh template
  • Heavy cardstock
  • Leaf-shaped cookie stamps
  • Read and green gel food coloring
  • 8 cups of tart apples (peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4″ thick)
  • 1 3/4 cups of fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 1 tsp of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of apple pie spice
  • 1/2 tsp of grated orange peel
  • 2 tbsp of butter, cold
  • 1 egg, beaten

Sugared Cranberries

  • 1/2 cup of fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of sugar plus 3 tbsp more for coating cranberries
  • 1/8 cup of chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll one piece of pie dough out into a 12 inch circle.
  • Carefully transfer the dough to an ungreased pie pan, and crump the edges using your fingers or a fork. Transfer to the refrigerator.
  • You can use the Winnie the Pooh template as a guide to cut your shapes out of a cardstock (make sure you don’t have any marker or ink on your cardstock as it will be touching the pie dough)
Winnie the Pooh Apple Pie
  • Roll the second piece of pie dough out into a 12 inch circle, and use a sharp knife to cut around your Winnie the Pooh shape. The use your leaf cookie stamps to cut as many leaves out as you want.
  • Transfer all cut out shapes to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Gather the scrap dough, and use gel food coloring to color one half red and the other green. Roll each color out, and again using your cardstock as a guide, cut the shirt out of red, and the scarf out of the green dough. Place these shapes on your baking sheet and transfer the sheet to the freezer for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
Winnie the Pooh Apple Pie
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the apple, cranberries, lemon juice, cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, apple pie spice, and citrus peel. Transfer the pie filing to your refrigerated pie shell. Cut the cold butter into small pieces and place around the top of the pie.
  • Arrange the leaf cutouts in any pattern you desire around the edges, keeping an open spot in the middle of the pie for Winnie the Pooh. Use a little water if needed to get any leaves to stick, and to add the shirt and scarf to your Winnie the Pooh cutout. Place Winnie the Pooh back in the freezer while the pie bakes.
Winnie the Pooh Apple Pie
  • Lightly brush the leaf cutouts with egg wash and sprinkle with a little sugar.
  • Place the pie pan on a baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes. Then, with the pie in the oven, lower the temperature to 350F and bake for another 30-40 minutes. If the edges of the crust are getting too brown you can add foil (just fold a 12″ piece into a square, cut a circle out, and carefully place over the edges of the pie).
  • While the pie is baking, you can make the sugared cranberries to add for decoration. Place 1/4 cup of water and 1/4 cup of sugar in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and it comes to a simmer. Remove from the heat. Carefully add in your cranberries, cover and let steep for 5 minutes. Then transfer to a piece of parchment paper to cool for about 1 hour before rolling in the extra 3 tablespoons of sugar.
  • When the pie is done baking, transfer to a cooling rack to set for at least 1 hour before slicing. The place your Winnie the Pooh dough in the oven for 10 minutes (after adding a little egg wash and sugar to it as well).
  • Remove the cutouts and allow to cool on a wire rack for about 15 minutes before using a toothpick and melted chocolate to add the face. You can either melt the chocolate over a double broiler, or in the microwave in 30 second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each interval.
  • Place Winnie the Pooh in the middle of the pie and finish it off by decorating with sugared cranberries.

Enjoy!

Billy Porter, Zachary Quinto, and EJ Johnson Join the Cast of ‘The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder‘. Disney Channel fans were extremely excited to hear Disney was working on a new sequel series for the hit animated television show, The Proud Family called “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” which will premiere exclusively on Disney+.

Picking up the story of its central character Penny Proud, “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” will also include her madcap family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and her grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). Of course, it would not be “The Proud Family” without Penny’s loyal crew Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez and Zoey Howzer, among others.

Though we are excited to see the original cast return, we wanted to introduce the new faces and voices joining the upcoming Disney+ series:

Zachary Quinto and Billy Porter will be playing new characters Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins and Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins, the mixed-race adoptive parents of Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, voiced by Keke Palmer. “[Maya is] a 14-year-old activist who relentlessly marches to the beat of her own drum. She is extremely mature for her age and will not hesitate to shut anyone down with her blunt honesty and wisdom.  The adopted daughter of mixed-race parents, Maya is new to town, and initially disassociates herself from Penny and her crew because she is skeptical about what she perceives to be the superficiality of social cliques. However, Penny eventually gains her hard-earned respect and the two become good friends.”

Daisy Ridley “In Talks” with Lucasfilm to Return as Rey for Future Star Wars Projects

Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Daisy Ridley “In Talks” with Lucasfilm to Return as Rey for Future Star Wars Projects. According to sources close to Giant Freakin Robot, Daisy Ridley is rumored to be in talks with Lucasfilm to discuss her return to the Star Wars Universe.

Daisy Ridley portrayed Rey Palpatine, turned Rey Skywalker, throughout the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Beginning with her time as a scavenger on the desert planet Jakku through her training and journey as a Jedi, Rey’s story is expansive and far from over. She has plenty of life to live, people to meet, and stories to tell. So will we get to see this translated in film or television?

GFR shared: “Thanks to some inside info from our most trusted and proven source, we have learned that Daisy Ridley is currently in talks with the powers-that-be at Disney and Lucasfilm to return as Rey in some upcoming Star Wars project. We were not able to discern just what that project would be – is it something brand new or a project we already know about? – but that she is definitely speaking to the bigwigs about coming back as Rey in the future.

Though Lucasfilm has not confirmed these discussions, as a part of The Walt Disney Company, it comes as no surprise that the studio would be keeping secrets regarding future projects or potential castings. If Daisy does make a return to Lucasfilm for more Star Wars content there is a chance we may see her in future films or potentially in a standalone series on Disney+ similar to The Mandalorian, Andor, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It is currently unknown if she would be featured in a story surrounding her back story, events between the third trilogy films, or even stories following her journey after Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.
