The Boathouse Being Sued After Customer Chokes to Death Last Year

The Boathouse Being Sued After Customer Chokes to Death Last Year

Lawsuit Filed After Fatal Choking Incident at The Boathouse in Disney Springs

A lawsuit has been filed in Orange County following the death of a guest who experienced a choking incident while dining at The Boathouse, according to court records obtained by local media. The incident occurred on the evening of June 8, 2025, at Disney Springs, when the guest, identified in the lawsuit as Kevin Duncan, was eating a steak and reportedly began choking on a piece of food while seated at the restaurant.

The Boathouse Being Sued After Customer Chokes to Death Last Year

According to the filing, family members and friends attempted to help by performing the Heimlich maneuver and other measures. The lawsuit alleges that restaurant staff contacted on-site security rather than immediately calling 911, which the family claims caused a delay in emergency medical services being dispatched. Court records state that Duncan suffered severe hypoxia, went into cardiac arrest, and was transported to a hospital where he was placed on a ventilator. He died the following day.

The family’s lawsuit accuses the restaurant of negligence and wrongful death, asserting that choking is a foreseeable medical emergency in a dining setting and that staff should have had clear policies and training in place, including promptly contacting emergency responders. The filing seeks a jury trial and damages permitted under Florida law. At this time, the allegations outlined in the lawsuit have not been ruled on by a court, and no determination of fault has been made.

The Boathouse has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, and the case remains in the early stages of the legal process. Incidents like this are investigated through the civil court system, where evidence, policies, and actions taken during the emergency will be examined. Disney Springs continues to operate as usual, and no changes related to this case have been announced.

One of the headliners this year is the Steakhouse Lobster Caesar Salad debuting at The Artist’s Table. This is not your basic Caesar situation. It features romaine and red oak lettuces, warm water lobster, radishes, herbed breadcrumbs, and housemade Caesar dressing. Over at Figment’s Inspiration Station inside The Odyssey, the purple icon himself gets a sweet salute with the Figment Fantasy Cake, a colorful dessert made with sponge cake, strawberry whipped cream, white chocolate ganache, orange icing, and white chocolate Figment wings that look almost too cute to eat. Almost.

Other standouts include Deco Delights serving up the Sparkling Spectacle Gâteau with vanilla bean mousse, caramel center, apricot jam, and hazelnut cookie, plus an espresso martini option for those who prefer their art liquid. Pop Eats is leveling up comfort food with a Croque Monsieur-inspired grilled cheese paired with tomato soup and a sparkling wine topped with fruit juice pearls. Fictional Victuals adds a storybook-style dessert with a tea-themed treat featuring Earl Grey chocolate pot de crème, lemon madeleine, and rose and raspberry jam. And yes, the popcorn bucket buzz is real, with a Figment artist bucket filled with rainbow popcorn inspired by Journey Into Imagination, which already has fans plotting their snack strategy.

Dispute Over Line-Cutting Leads to Violent Physical Assault at Disneyland

A man sustained serious injuries during a violent assault that erupted in a popular attraction’s queue at Disneyland over the busy winter break. The physical altercation, which quickly escalated from a verbal dispute into a brawl, left the victim requiring medical attention and prompted an immediate response from law enforcement and park security.

Assault

Authorities and Disneyland officials have confirmed that the assault took place last Tuesday afternoon within the queue for the Indiana Jones Adventure, a premier attraction at the Anaheim park. According to Anaheim Police Sgt. Matt Sutter, the violence was sparked when one group attempted to push through the crowded line to “catch up” with other family members already further ahead.

The verbal dispute quickly spiraled into a brutal 30-second physical altercation between two men, unfolding in front of a shocked crowd of families and children. Witnesses reported that the man whose family had cut the line launched a savage attack on the other guest, a visitor from Washington state who was at the park with his family.

Witness accounts shared on Reddit by user ImaginaryBag describe a chaotic scene where bystanders tried to intervene. Despite their efforts, the attacker managed to land several blows before momentarily stepping back. In a final act of violence, the suspect lunged forward for a “sucker punch” that drew blood before fleeing the area with his family in tow.

The Anaheim Police Department confirmed that the suspect escaped the park and remained at large as of Monday afternoon. However, Sgt. Sutter noted that investigators have strong leads and believe the individual is a Southern California resident.

The victim, a visitor from Washington, was treated by Disneyland’s first aid team for a large gash on his face that required stitches. His wife, posting under the name Wittwitbarista, shared that her husband showed incredible discipline by refusing to strike back, fearing that any retaliation would result in their entire family being blacklisted or ejected from the park. Despite the traumatic assault, the family chose to stay and finish their day at the resort.

What is Disneyland Handcrafted, and When Does it Debut?

Told through rare archival footage and insightful soundbites, the documentary will allow fans to journey behind the scenes of early Disneyland and uncover the vision, obstacles, and breakthroughs of this ambitious project.

Who is Leslie Iwerks, and What Are Her Ties to Disney?

An Oscar and Emmy nominated filmmaker, Leslie Iwerks comes from a family steeped in Disney legacy. The granddaughter of Ub Iwerks (Walt Disney’s original animator and designer/co-creator of Mickey Mouse) and the daughter of Don Iwerks (a Disney camera technician and inventor), Leslie is the producer and director of the new documentary film.

Two film pioneers, Disney Legends, and Oscar winners, Ub and Don Iwerks made their mark at Disney: Ub worked at Disney in the early days of the company as an animator and special effects wizard, whereas Don worked at Disney in the ‘50s, ultimately overseeing the Studio Machine Shop and the Camera Service Department.

In fact, Leslie’s grandfather and father were particularly instrumental in a large portion of the creativity that has helped take The Walt Disney Company to revolutionary heights over the years. From the landmark creation of Mickey Mouse to the invention of the multiplane camera and the development of 360-degree camera that led to the first Circle-Vision 360° film format, Leslie grew up surrounded by these stunning technological feats that helped pave the way for her to become an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker herself.

What Projects Has Leslie Worked on in Her Career?

Leslie grew up surrounded by Disney history, frequently having the freedom to explore the Disney studio lot and filling her mind with an imaginative spirit that has continued to fuel her dedication to innovative storytelling.

Finding a particular interest in stories that meet at the intersection of business, creativity, and visionary thinking, Leslie launched her early career with an especially personal touch in 1999, sharing her grandfather’s story with Walt and more in The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story. With a desire to tell her grandfather’s story to an audience and championed by the support of Roy E. Disney at the time, Leslie was able to share her family legacy with the world through her own filmmaking.

Following the passion and expertise set by her grandfather and father, Leslie continues to leave a legacy of pure technological innovation and key attention to detail with a Disney-filled filmography including The Pixar Story and The Imagineering Story. The latter even inspired a companion book, offering readers an in-depth look at the creativity and craftsmanship behind Disney Parks. Her family story lives in her filmmaking to this day, inspired by her past with an innovative search for new ways to connect with passionate audiences around the world.

How Did Leslie Uncover All This New Footage of Disneyland?

During the creation of the film, Leslie searched through over 100 hours of raw material showcasing Disneyland in its earliest days, discovering authentic outtakes that had previously been sitting in the vaults at the Walt Disney Film Archives for years.

Combing through binders of 16mm film reels that were unused from the making of the Disneyland television series, Leslie and her dedicated team were able to produce high-resolution scans of every reel without a timecode, helping to restore beautiful, once-forgotten shots of the early days of Disneyland onto a hard drive through a revolutionary process that had never been tackled before.

Taking on such a massive challenge of searching through all this footage and discovering new pieces of recorded Disneyland history was certainly a tricky task for Leslie and her team, yet the structure and layout of the film feels personal, showcasing some of the most amazing craftsmanship she or anyone else has ever seen.

During Disneyland Handcrafted, this distinctive, archival footage will provide an unpolished, fly-on-the-wall perspective for viewers to hear and see what was actually happening during construction of The Happiest Place on Earth.

Whether you’ve dreamed of what Adventureland looked like in the third month of construction or how Tomorrowland started to take form with the pressure of opening day looming in the distance, you’ll be surrounded by sights, sounds, and first-hand accounts of real artists, craftsmen, and Walt Disney Imagineers on-site in Anaheim in 1955.

What Else Can I Expect to See During Disneyland Handcrafted?

A distinctly Disney feature documentary that details the legacy, passion, and nostalgia in the year leading up to the creation of Disneyland, Disneyland Handcrafted will detail the ultimate story of risk and capture the excitement of Disneyland as it was being built more than 70 years ago.

With a chance to peek behind the orange groves and experience the making of the park like never before, this documentary will take you back in time to visit the Disneyland of yesteryear and provide a look at the dedication, expertise, and focus that was required to turn a dream into reality.

Hand-forged with an assortment of dedicated, invested individuals constantly working around the clock, Leslie mentions that the film encapsulates the raw DNA of Disneyland, featuring the five original lands and the overall sense of overpowering happiness that went on to become the foundational blueprint for future Disney Parks around the world.

Disneyland Handcrafted Documentary on Disney+ Walt Disney

How Can I Watch Disneyland Handcrafted?

Looking back at its opening over 70 years ago, it’s truly unbelievable to see what Walt was able to pull off with his team. When you tune-in to watch Disneyland Handcrafted on Disney+ or Disney YouTube this month, you’ll be able to take an up-close look at the intense risks and the immense pressure that Walt was under in 1955 that eventually laid the groundwork for a massive global industry that is currently in the biggest era of growth since it opened.

Honoring the history and revolutionary spirit of Walt Disney has fueled innovation across generations, opening the door for evolution and growth just as Walt dreamed. Leslie Iwerks has taken that message to heart with this film, depicting the thoughtfulness and care that was put into the development of Disneyland and reminding so many of us why we continue to trace our love for Disney Parks back to the original vision of Disneyland.

A Global Phenomenon Returns

Originally released on May 27, 2005, Madagascar didn’t just capture hearts—it launched a massive $1 billion franchise. The film’s unique blend of “Looney Tunes” style physical comedy and modern computer-animated savvy made it the sixth highest-grossing film of its release year, earning over $193 million in North America alone.

Critics at the time, including the Los Angeles Times’ Kenneth Turan, praised the film for its pure sense of fun, noting that it “simply wants you to crack a smile.” Two decades later, that mission remains unchanged, as the film continues to delight audiences with its infectious energy and lack of “heavy moral lessons.”

The Story That Started It All

The rollicking tale kicks off with Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller) enjoying his best life as the pampered “King of New York.” Alongside him are his best friends: the irrepressible Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), the sassy Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and the hypochondriacal Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer).

When Marty experiences an existential crisis and escapes the zoo to find “the wild,” his friends follow him to Grand Central Station, leading to a series of mishaps that lands the quartet on the shores of Madagascar. There, they encounter the funky King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen) and his loyal assistant Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer). While Marty embraces his new surroundings, Alex’s growing hunger for steak starts to test the limits of their friendship, forcing the group to rely on their instincts to survive.

A Lasting Legacy

The impact of Madagascar extends far beyond its initial box office run. The film’s success spawned two blockbuster sequels—Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008) and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012)—as well as the 2014 spin-off Penguins of Madagascar, featuring the scene-stealing marine birds who also led their own hit Nickelodeon series.

The film’s soundtrack remains one of the most popular of the 2000s, featuring a score by two-time Academy Award® winner Hans Zimmer and the propulsive dance anthem “I Like to Move It,” which became a permanent fixture of the franchise’s identity.

Patrick Warburton Named Celebrity King for Mardi Gras Parade

Patrick Warburton Named King of Bacchus for Mardi Gras 2026

Bacchus names actor Patrick Warburton as celebrity king for 2026 Mardi Gras parade

The Krewe of Bacchus has announced that actor Patrick Warburton will reign as Bacchus LVII for the 2026 Mardi Gras season.

Warburton, celebrated for his distinctive baritone voice and iconic roles as Puddy in Seinfeld, The Tick, and Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove, will lead the super-krewe’s procession through uptown New Orleans on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Warburton’s reign coincides with a significant milestone for the krewe and the country. The 2026 parade theme, “Bacchus Celebrates America 250,” is a tribute to the United States’ semiquincentennial. The procession will feature 32 elaborate floats depicting eras and achievements in American history, from the “Roaring 20s” to the “National Parks.”

“Patrick’s legacy as a distinguished actor in America’s finest traditions exemplifies the values of family, charity, and service to the community,” said Clark Brennan, captain of the Krewe of Bacchus.

“Nice Work, Pal”: A Soarin’ Connection While Warburton is a Hollywood heavyweight, theme park fans know him best as “Chief Flight Attendant Patrick” from Disney’s Soarin’ attraction. For years, his pre-show safety spiel—delivered with his signature deadpan humor—has been a cult favorite, with fans reciting lines like “Nice work, pal” right along with him.

Come February 15, he will be trading his hang glider for a massive float. Instead of “Soarin’ Over California,” he will be rolling down St. Charles Avenue, tossing beads and doubloons to the massive crowds in what is sure to be a “nice work” performance for the holiday.

A Legacy of Kings By accepting the crown, Warburton joins a roster of entertainment legends who have led the Bacchus parade since its founding in 1968. Past monarchs include Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, Will Ferrell, Michael Keaton, and Josh Duhamel.
