ABC Family’s Switched At Birth: Hunt For The Code Begins Tuesday, May 31

ABC Family’s Switched At Birth: Hunt For The Code Begins Tuesday, May 31On Tuesday, May 31st, ABC Family will launch “Switched at Birth: Hunt for the Code,” an online scavenger hunt game, as part of the network’s launch of its new one-hour scripted original drama series “Switched at Birth,” premiering Monday, June 6th at 9:00PM ET/PT. To enter the game, viewers can log onto www.abcfamily.com/switchedatbirthgame.

“Switched at Birth” tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing at an early age due to a case of meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a working class neighborhood. Things come to a dramatic head when both families meet and struggle to learn how to live together for the sake of the girls.

The game centers around the teenage character of Bay, a rebellious and talented street artist, who has been hiding the fact that she’s been painting her stencil art (image above) around the neighborhood. In the online game, players will hunt the internet for 10 of Bay’s signature pink Tags, each of which will have two letters written underneath it. Starting May 31st, the network will post two clues per weekday on abcfamily.com that hint to the sites where Bay’s stencil art can be found. On Monday, June 6th, the first eligible person to collect all 20 letters and enter the complete code on abcfamily.com wins the grand prize of $4,000 to switch their life for the weekend*.

Users can also scan the pink Microsoft Tags with a smart phone to access sneak peeks of “Switched at Birth,” including video, photos and script pages.

“Switched at Birth” is executive-produced by Lizzy Weiss (“Blue Crush”), Paul Stupin (“Make It or Break It”) and John Ziffren (“Melissa & Joey,” “Make It or Break It”). The series stars newcomer Katie LeClerc as Daphne Vasquez; Vanessa Marano (“Gilmore Girls”) as Bay Kennish; Constance Marie (“George Lopez”) as Regina Vasquez; D.W. Moffett (“Friday Night Lights”) as John Kennish; Lea Thompson (“Back to the Future,” “Caroline in the City”) as Kathryn Kennish; Lucas Grabeel (“High School Musical”) as Toby Kennish; and newcomer Sean Berdy as Emmett.

Part of the Disney/ABC Television Group, ABC Family is distributed in over 98 million homes. ABC Family features programming reflecting today’s families, entertaining and connecting with adults through relevant stories about today’s relationships, all told with diversity, passion, humor and heart. ABC Family’s programming is a mix of network defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. ‘Mickey’s Soundsational Parade’ Celebrates Music in Motion at Disneyland Park

‘Mickey’s Soundsational Parade’ Celebrates Music in Motion at Disneyland Park

Rhythm is king when the magic of Disney music takes to the streets in the new “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” in Disneyland park. A bevy of favorite Disney characters including Aladdin, Ariel, Cinderella, and Peter Pan will follow “the leader of the club,” Mickey Mouse, as they lead guests on a journey of sound and story.

“Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” comes alive with Disney characters, performers and nine new parade floats, each designed in the style of a children’s “pop-up” story book with eye-catching visuals and whimsical elements. Each parade unit is brought to life through the fun and lively rhythms of drumlines, percussion teams and jazz horns. Images of musical instruments and oversized drums decorate the parade lineup.

‘Mickey’s Soundsational Parade’ Celebrates Music in Motion at Disneyland Park

Mickey Mouse leads all the performers onto the Disneyland parade route and demonstrates his own rhythmic prowess sitting atop the first float and playing an acoustic drum set. Just ahead of Mickey’s float are six live drumline musicians who drive the beat and set the tone for the entire parade. The drumline performers playfully interact with guests as they make their way down the parade route. Also included in this classic character unit are Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Chip ‘n’ Dale, and Goofy.

Next, the Genie from “Aladdin” takes over the street, brandishing a drum major’s baton and leading six Cymbal Dancers who set a new rhythm. Aladdin himself commands the top of this float as he strikes a large gong and greets guests. Bringing up the rear is an animated version of Aladdin’s pet monkey, Abu, who claps and plays cymbals of his own.

From there, “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” takes guests “Under the Sea,” accompanied by a distinctively Caribbean sound including steel drums and marimbas. The world’s favorite mermaid, Ariel, “floats” above this whimsical parade unit while a humorous octopus shows off a multi-armed talent for music making.

The next unit looks to land south of the border as The Three Caballeros introduce the spirited sounds of Latin America. Flower dancers and piñata dancers complete the scene around this rhythmic parade unit where Donald Duck dangles a piñata overhead for Jose and Panchito, Donald’s friends from the 1944 classic film, “The Three Caballeros.”

Disney’s newest heroine, Rapunzel, leads a royal procession including Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Snow White on a float dominated by Rapunzel’s tower. This “Heroines” unit also features graceful court dancers in a lyrical tribute to the timeless tales of Disney princesses.

Jungle drums sound the arrival of Disney jungle inhabitants, including Simba perched majestically atop Pride Rock. The unit’s music includes nods to such Disney melodies as “I Wanna Be Like You,” “Trashin’ The Camp” and the score from “The Lion King.”

The parade next transports guests to New Orleans and the world of Princess Tiana, with jazz rhythms bursting from a classic Mississippi riverboat as it rolls down the parade route. Mardi Gras dancers beat tambourines in celebration as they surround Tiana’s riverboat.

Adventure waits in Neverland as Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and some bumbling pirates appear with the next float, locked in a comical battle. Above them, Tinker Bell plays on mushrooms as if they were drums and three butterflies flutter below her.

Mary Poppins and her friend Bert bring “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” to a close riding astride two carousel horses that appear to have just leaped from their perches in search of a musical adventure. This grand finale unit includes a moving, musical carousel and a “rooftop unit,” meant to suggest the rooftops of London. Eleven chimney sweeps complete the parade with a high-energy broom dance.

“Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” will be presented daily beginning May 27 along the Disneyland parade route between Main Street, U.S.A., and “it’s a small world” in Fantasyland.

Disney World Play Areas: Animal Kingdom

Disney World Play Areas: Animal Kingdom

In Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, a wonderfully themed play area is located in the DinoLand U.S.A. area.  Known as the”Boneyard,”potential paleontologists can play in an area filled with dinosaur discoveries.

With a sand pit filled with”fossils,” kids can dig, explore, and uncover bones from Wooly Mammoths to Triceratops.   The Boneyard Playground also has multi-level slides, tunnels, and other areas to climb and play.   The shaded sand pit area also offers benches and fans for adults to relax while their children burn off energy in the “no-stick” sand.  There are also many other hidden areas, such as bones that open doors, or even a “xylobone” that plays music!

For kids that need to simply run around and burn off steam, Animal Kingdom has several walkways for kids to run around and explore, learning about different animals on the way.  A personal favorite area is Rafiki’s Conservation Station.  A short train ride away from the entrance to the Kilimanjaro Safari, the conservation station has an outdoor petting zoo-type area, as well as an indoor area filled with characters to meet and greet and other animals to learn about and even see up close.   And, for the adults who want to keep searching while their children are learning, there are over 100 hidden mickey’s at the Conservation Station to discover during your stay.

Disney Confidential - Disney drops Seal Team 6, Oz gets release date, and more

Hey there guys and gals! Anonymouse here!!! Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone. Who am I kidding everyone is at the beach this weekend so I am probably talking to just Chip as he is probably stuck at home all weekend rearranging his back hair sock drawer.

I have a bunch of Disney News & Gossip to share so stay with me!

Disney has penciled in Oz: The Great and Powerful for a March 8th, 2013 release date. That should give Disney enough time to hire a whole other cast for this film atleast 2 more times.

More Disney Movie News..

John Carter of Mars is now just John Carter? Written with Michael Chabon and directed by Andrew Stanton, John Carter is based on the classic sci-fi character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs who appeared in the author’s 11-volume  Martian series of books. The story centers around a Civil War veteran who finds himself granted super-human strength and agility after being mysteriously transported to Mars, which is itself in the midst of a devastating civil war between the Red and Green Martians.

I have a feeling this movie is going the same route as Mars Needs Moms. Disney what is it with all these Mars Movies? You trying to tell us something?

Finally..

You remember last week when Disney filed the paperwork for Seal Team 6? The Navy responded to Disney’s actions by filing their own trademark paper for the terms ‘SEAL Team’ and ‘Navy SEALs’ on May 13 in order to protect itself.

The Navy claimed in the filing that the phrases denote “membership in an organization of the Department of the Navy that develops and executes military missions involving special operations strategy, doctrine, and tactics.”

Disney officials said they withdrew their trademark paperwork in deference to the Navy.

That is all the time I have for today. Have a Happy Memorial Day Everyone!

Got any good rumors?  Please email me at [email protected] on my Facebook Page.

A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet

A Look back: Official Star Tours MeetStar Tours: The Adventures Continue (AKA Star Tours 2.0) kicked off on May 20, 2011 with hearty fanfare and excitement.  Its inauguration kicked off Star War Weekends 2011 at Disney Hollywood Studios, underscoring the expansion of the event’s footprint and perhaps foreshadowing further future expansions of the Star Wars Universe into the Disney park.

The launch of Star Tours also represented a landmark in the Disney Parks continuing interaction with fans.  For the first time, Disney offered an official “meet” of the type previously held in California for fans on the East coast.  Having given warning via Twitter the night before, the official Disney Parks Blog posted an announcement of the Star Tours meet on May 5. Those interested were to respond by email, and the first 250 respondents were included in the event, each able to bring one guest for a total of 500 attendees.

A Look back: Official Star Tours MeetThe evening of the May 19 started out with a media event at Hollywood Studios which finished with an abbreviated version of the Symphony in the Stars fireworks performed at Last tour to Endor.  No doubt much of the set up used for one event was carried over into the next.

At 10:45, meet-up attendees began gathering in the parking lot of Blizzard Beach. A long, red carpet had been laid out, and a white Humvee with video screens and speakers was parked between the bus shelters.  A pair of DJs asked trivia questions, handed out Disney Social Media pins, and kept upbeat music playing as the guests arrived and checked in.  Everyone was asked to sign waivers, since Disney would be photographing and recording the event, and all were given yellow or green wristbands.  We were then loaded on busses…and we waited.

A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet

In all actuality, the bus wait was fun.  When you pack around 100 people, all of whom are Disney lovers, most of whom have blogs and Twitter accounts, in a small space for 30 minutes with their cell phones and ustream feeds, things get…interesting.  Nonetheless, when the bus started rolling across darkened roads and then through the backstage area of Hollywood studios, a surge of almost tangible excitement went through the bus.

Guests were welcomed to the meet by a constellation of “planets,” huge, beautifully lit balloons floating above a red carpet and fog-filled white tunnel leading into the park beside Star Tours.  The beat of music wafted out through the fog, and Star Wars characters, from the Bith cantina musicians to Jawas lined the carpeted walkway.

Inside the park, the Jedi Training stage had been repurposed as a DJ platform and was occupied by a DJ costumed as a rebel pilot and Stig and Oopla, the the usual hosts of Hyperspace Hoopla.  Characters were roaming the crowd with Photopass Photographers, taking pictures with guests.  Tables had been set up along the pathways at both sides of the attraction, and long, covered tables offered ice cream, toppings, and drinks to guests.

A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet

With all of the characters swarming through the crowd, the set pieces on display, the food, and Star Tours available for unlimited rides the time passed quickly, and Stig and Oopla announced the Q&A with the imagineers.  Bree A Look back: Official Star Tours MeetStarliner (a former Adventurer’s Club cast member), the host of the mall preview events run previously around Florida to promote Star Tours, emerged and introduced Kathy Rogers, show producer, and Steve Spiegel, writer for the attraction.  The imagineers did a brief interview with Bree, and then Stig and Oopla went into the audience and took questions for them.  The Q&A produced a variety of tidbits such as

  • Writers went to consult with Lucasfilm about every 3 weeks
  • A simulator was built at Imagineering so that developers could ride the attraction over…and over…
  • Star Tours 2.0 had been in development since the release of Episode 1 in 2000
  • Destinations were partially chosen because of diversity of landscape and the potential for unique, “different” motion experiences
  • Many original voice actors were brought back, most notably Frank Oz as Yoda. Oz is usually hesitant, but he remembered such a good experience working on Muppets 3-D that he was willing to return.
  • The imagineers chose to “customize” the ride, even having the messages change gender references depending on the gender of the guest chosen as the rebel spy.
  • Spiegel finished the session by explaining that the greatest joy of being an imagineer is getting to do everything.  No two days of work are the same, no two projects require the same knowledges or skills.

The event continued approximately another hour after that, with seemingly too much to do and see for the time allotted!  Around 2 am, the characters began to disappear, and guests were gently filed out of the park and taken back to busses and Blizzard beach.

A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet A Look back: Official Star Tours Meet

Overall, the meet was a well produced event.  Although its first-come, first-served presentation irritated many, it was actually quite democratic.  Social Media (who sponsored the event; most CM tags there were social media) rewarded Twitter followers with a preliminary warning, and the sign up was completely open.  There was no charge or prerequisite for the event, which made it quite unique, and the meet was certainly packed with things to entertain guests. Certainly, I believe Disney should offer further events for Annual Passholders and other vested groups to enjoy Star Tours, but overall, I felt the event was a great success.  It expressed an interest in East Coast Walt Disney World fans which has seemed lacking recently, and the meet, combined with the spectacular opening ceremonies featuring George Lucas and Bob Iger the following morning turned the spotlight to the sometimes media-neglected Walt Disney World.

Disney Channel Announces Start Of Production On New Live-Action Comedy Series – Austin & Ally

Disney Channel Announces Start Of Production On New Live-Action Comedy Series - Austin & Ally

Disney Channel has ordered “Austin & Ally,” an original, live-action comedy series chronicling the friendship of an unlikely duo whose lives unexpectedly enliven when one becomes an overnight Internet musical sensation. The multi-camera series will begin production in Hollywood this summer for a scheduled late 2011 premiere on Disney Channel.

Starring are newcomer Ross Lynch as Austin, Laura Marano (“Without a Trace,” “Back to You”) as Ally, Raini Rodriguez (Disney’s “Prom,” “I’m in the Band”) as Trish and Calum Worthy (“Psych,” “Good Luck Charlie”) as Dez.

The series follows the partnership between polar opposites — Austin, an extroverted musician/singer, and Ally, a brilliant yet shy songwriter — and their two best friends, Trish and Dez. Unbeknownst to Ally, Austin and Dez “borrow” one of her songs, record it, create a video and post it on the Internet, after which it and Austin become a local sensation. When Trish convinces Ally to tell the world she wrote the song, Austin pleads with her to write another hit for him. Instead, the two combine their talents to create a true musical tour-de-force.

“Austin & Ally” was created and is executive-produced by Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (“Good Burger,” “Kenan & Kel,” Disney Channel’s “Sonny With A Chance” and “JONAS”). The pilot was directed by Shelley Jensen (“Good Luck Charlie,” “Shake It Up”).

ABC Family’s Original Series: The Nine Lives Of Chloe King – Pictures and Video

ABC Family’s Original Series: The Nine Lives Of Chloe King - Pictures and Video

A smart, pretty, slightly offbeat teen girl who lives alone with her single-mother suddenly discovers her destiny is far greater than she could have ever imagined, in “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” premiering Tuesday, June 14 at 9:00PM ET/PT on ABC Family. The new one-hour scripted action drama follows Chloe King, who is looking forward to celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends and single mother — just like every other year – that is until she starts developing heightened abilities and discovers she’s being pursued by a mysterious figure. Chloe soon learns she’s part of an ancient race called the Mai, which has been hunted by human assassins for millennia — and that she may ultimately be their only hope for survival.

Struggling to understand what fate now has in store for her, Chloe begins to uncover more about her newfound abilities. Overwhelmed by all she is learning, she wonders how she’ll be able to reconcile being a normal girl with an extraordinary destiny. With her childhood best friends, Amy and Paul, by her side to support her (despite being shocked to learn of her supernatural powers), Chloe must also figure out how – or if – she should tell her mom, Meredith, with whom she shares a very strong bond.

And as with any teenage girl, Chloe develops a crush on a new boy, Brian, whose charming and unpretentious nature contradicts the wealthy lifestyle in which he grew up. As she explores her relationship with Brian, Chloe learns that, when it comes to guys, things are much more complicated than they appear.

To help Chloe understand the history of the Mai, two of her fellow students, Alek and Jasmine, reveal to her that they, too, are descendants of the ancient race. She also learns quickly that the two just may be her best protectors – and Alek may prove to be something more altogether.

The story of the Mai is the background mythology for the ABC Family series. The supposed offspring of the Egyptian goddess Bastet, the Mai are considered to be both gods and humans. From the very beginning, the Mai have had a symbiotic relationship with humans and have been frequently referred to as their protectors.

See below for images and video

“The Nine Lives of Chloe King” will be executive-produced by Dan Berendsen (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Hannah Montana: The Movie”) and John Ziffren (“Melissa & Joey,” “Make It or Break It”) with Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein (“Pretty Little Liars,” “The Lying Game,” “Gossip Girl,” “The Vampire Diaries”) and Gina Girolamo. The drama is based on the book series “The Nine Lives of Chloe King” by Liz Braswell. The pilot was directed by Wendey Stanzler.

The series will star Skyler Samuels (“The Gates”) as Chloe King; Amy Pietz (“The Office,” “Caroline in the City”) as Meredith King; Grey Damon (“True Blood,” “Friday Night Lights”) as Brian; newcomer Grace Phipps as Amy; Benjamin Stone (“10 Things I Hate About You”) as Alek; Alyssa Diaz (“Southland”) as Jasmine; and Ki Hong Lee (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) as Paul.

In need of an upgrade – “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” Play Area

In need of an upgrade - "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" Play Area

I recently wrote a few articles about the different play areas for kids in the theme parks.  I happily wrote about the Magic Kingdom’s Laughing Place and EPCOT’s water splash pads.  I loved discovering some of the secrets of the Boneyard Playground at the Animal Kingdom.  But, then I realized something – the “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” movie set adventure hasn’t changed a bit since I was 10 years old – just a couple of years after the park opened as Disney-MGM Studios.

When I was 10, the movie was only a couple of years old (same as DHS – 1989) and I had seen the movie and was most likely looking forward to the sequel (the first sequel, “Honey, I Blew Up the Kids,” was released in 1992.  The playground was great.  I loved climbing on the bees, sliding down the 35mm rolls of film, and exploring the area from the perspective of an ant.  But, now, I’d place a bet that 95% or more of the kids entering DHS have never seen any of the movies.  And, probably the majority of them have no idea what 35 mm film is, or why their parents needed something like that when they could just take pictures and see them instantly on the camera’s viewer.

10 years ago, I would have said – turn it into a Bug’s Life playground.  The Pixar movie would have been perfect.  But, seeing that A Bug’s Life is no longer the main movie, I have another option – how about a Toy Story playground?  We could all be the size of Buzz and Woody, or Hamm and Bo Peep.  We could be on ground playing with them, trying to find our way to Pizza Planet, or at least to their delivery struck. Maybe my option isn’t the best, but I’m a recreational writer for Chip and Company and we have Imagineers to strike gold!

What are your suggestions for this, or other attractions, that need to be updated?

I Love this Disney Site: MouseLinked

I Love this Disney Site: MouseLinked

I love this Disney site! A few months back I met Randy Ojeda, aka @FluffedMojo, on Twitter. We chatted Disney stuff for a bit, then he invited me to check out his new social network: MouseLinked.

To say MouseLinked is like Facebook for Disney fans is an understatement. It’s the place where all Disney fan communities come together, from blogs to podcasts to forums…to infinity and beyond! Randy’s goal in creating this new network stemmed from Walt’s own inspiration. He wanted to build “some kind of internet enterprise where content creators and the content consumers can have fun together.” He has succeeded!

I’ll let Randy himself tell you more:
JW: Tell me a little about yourself and what you do.
RO: Well, my name is Randy Ojeda. I’m a junior at the University of South Florida, majoring in psychology. I’m planning on attending law school after graduation and eventually working for Disney Corporate (I know…big dreams). In the fall, I’ll be a part of the Disney College Program. When not in class, I fund my Disney pin addiction by working for the Geek Squad at Best Buy.

JW: What is MouseLinked?
RO: MouseLinked is the social network for Disney fans. It’s a site where you can go and connect with other people who share your passions, your love for Disney. It’s a fun way to find new friends, talk about Disney news and share photos and ideas in a site that’s ONLY for Disney fans.

JW: When and why did you create MouseLinked? Specifically, why Disney?
RO: It all started with a blog. I registered the domain YourHighwayintheSky.com in August of last year and began making some posts, thinking, “Disney fans will find this, they will flock to it.” Then I realized how many amazing Disney blogs are out there and how hard it is to find them and how hard it is for those blogs to find readers. You have Facebook and Twitter and everything, but Disney fans are a small subculture in those networks, not the majority. So I thought to myself, “There must be something built, some kind of internet enterprise, where the content creators and the content consumers can have fun together.” (This should be sounding like Walt at this point, lol). I wanted to make a website where you didn’t have to search for Disney fans. You had them all. You didn’t have to search for podcasts or blogs or radio networks…they were all there. Everything in the network would allow you to get your Disney fix! There were no free iPod scams or pictures of cats or spammers…just Disney fans being Disney fans. So I put the development of YourHighwayintheSky.com on hold and started on what would eventually become MouseLinked.com

JW: Did you create it by yourself?
RO: Are you crazy??? Lol! As soon as I had this idea, I enlisted the help of my good friend, Joshua Solanes. I had this idea in my head, I knew how I wanted the site to work, but I had neither the technical know-how nor the free time to put something like this together. So Josh and I spent hours and hours sitting at a table. I would draw out ideas and tell Josh something like, “Yeah, so we can have this here and this thingy there and then that will connect to this thing,” and he would make it happen. MouseLinked would still be ideas on a piece of paper if he hadn’t jumped on board. I’m very grateful that he did.

JW: There are thousands of Disney fan sites on the web, from blogs to digital magazines to discussion boards, etc. Why did you decide on this particular format?
RO: As I said previously, I wanted this to be a site to help bloggers, to work with discussion boards. I in no way want to compete with these sites. In fact, the opposite is true. I listen to a number of Disney Podcasts, read countless blogs, and FluffedMojo is registered on more forums than I can count. I figured this format would be the best way to bring all of these communities together. We are not mutually exclusive.

At the same time, I didn’t just want to make a Facebook clone. We have a lot of similar functionality, of course, but one thing I wanted from the beginning was a sort of Twitter-like microblog service built into the site. We call it The Wire. The Wire allows you to make short 140 character posts, but not specific to just your friends. The Wire goes to everybody. You can send private messages and write on somebody’s Magic Mirror, but if you need a quick answer, something anybody could help with, you can use The Wire. It’s a fast way to meet new people and find out the things you want to know throughout the network. If you want to know what time the 3:00pm parade starts, that’s the way to ask. {Editor’s note: LOL!!}

JW: How long did it take to build a social media site like this?
RO:Much like Disney itself, we are never finished. It took a while to get the functionality where it is now, but we are always adding new things, trying out new features, and most importantly, fixing bugs! What you have seen now is the short list of a long number of features that we need to implement. We just need the time to get to it all. That’s why the site still says Beta, Pardon Our Pixie Dust…and all that jazz.

JW: Are you making money from it? Do you hope to?
RO: We are not making much money from it. We have a few ads in place, which helps keep the servers up, but this is something to help the whole community. I want to make a tool that Disney fans and bloggers find useful. I want to help everybody out. Of course, the site does take a lot of time, and I’d hope that anybody who sees a significant increase in revenue, whether it be using MouseLinked to increase traffic to their site or sell more copies of their Disney book, would be willing to donate even a small amount to keep the site going. But all this comes in time, and the money isn’t the most important part (that’s why I’m staying in school!). The important part is, like I said, creating something that betters the community that I’m very happy to be a part of.

JW: What would you say is the benefit of joining a site like this as opposed to a forum based site?
RO: Forums are a great place for Discussion and this site is not aiming to compete with that. MouseLinked offers similar functionality to a network like Facebook or Twitter, but with a Disney-centric community. MouseLinked is more about making friends, planning meet ups and promoting what you do for the Disney community than a forum. Sure, in a forum you have a signature where you can link to your blog, but why not make a whole page to show it off?

JW: How many members is Mouselinked capable of supporting? How many current member are there?
RO: We have put the infrastructure in place to support thousands of members. Currently, we have almost 300 users; however, there’s room for more. Any volunteers?

JW: What does the future hold for Mouselinked?
RO: As I get deeper into my studies, begin to prepare for law school, and get closer to starting the Disney College Program, free time seems like a faraway dream. So I’m looking for help! The MouseLinked team is currently just Josh and me, but to continue the development at a pace that will keep the users happy, we would love for the team to really be a team. Any web developers with a passion for Disney who would like to join that team are invited to contact me on twitter @fluffedmojo or message me on MouseLinked. Like I said, we have a long list of places we’d like to go.

In the immediate future, the MouseLinked network has grown to include my original website, YourHighwayintheSky.com, a blog which features regular articles from a group of Disney Bloggers. Your Highway in the Sky is a part of the Magical Blogorail group and we hope the site can help spur discussion within the Disney community, whether on MouseLinked or elsewhere. Check it out!

Bonus question: If you were a Disney Character, which one would you be?
RO: Now THIS is a question. I would be Peter Pan. Minus the tights, he’s a character I’ve always wanted to be like. What guy wouldn’t want to fight Pirates…and fly! And I’d never have to grow up…or take the LSAT. That’s a big plus for me.

If you’re a part of the Disney fan family, stop by MouseLinked today and join the community!

Disney Cruise Line Unveils New Disney Fantasy Guest Experiences

Disney Cruise Line Unveils New Disney Fantasy Guest Experiences

The Disney Fantasy, the new Disney Cruise Line ship set to debut next spring, will bring to life many of the innovative features guests love on the recently launched Disney Dream including AquaDuck — the world’s first shipboard water coaster.  But new design elements and guest experiences will give the Fantasy an identity all its own.

The Disney Fantasy is the second of two newly designed Disney Cruise Line ships that take the family cruise experience to new heights. Sister ship to the Disney Dream, which entered service in January 2011, the 4,000-passenger Disney Fantasy will sail week-long Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, Fla., with its maiden voyage scheduled for March 31, 2012.

“Animation Magic” at Animator’s Palate

Animator’s Palate on the Disney Fantasy brings the magic of Disney animation into the dining room with a new show called “Animation Magic.”  The dinner show celebrates the magic of Disney animation and allows families to create and participate in a whole new way.
Like Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream, the venue is wall-to-wall whimsy inspired by a classic animation studio. Throughout the restaurant, pillars are fashioned like huge pencils and brushes. Character sketches, maquettes (three-dimensional character models), film strips and other tools of the animation trade adorn the room.  As a special nod to Mickey Mouse, the dining room chairs feature red and yellow colors and a trademark design – Mickey Mouse pants with two bright yellow buttons.
Upon entering Animator’s Palate, guests are surrounded by artwork featuring their favorite Disney characters.  Guests get a sneak peek into the origins of these beloved characters through concept art, storyboards and character studies.
As guests are seated at their tables, they are invited to draw a character of their own using a simple template on their placemat.  Then, just before dinner, house lights dim and a sprinkling of pixie dust illuminates the room.
Imagery is revealed on several large monitors showing animated, black and white drawings of Mickey Mouse.  Mickey then places the Sorcerer’s hat upon his head which transforms him, as well as all of the other pencil drawings shown throughout the room, from black and white to color.
Mickey then invites guests to sit back, relax and enjoy a taste of animation as a montage of memorable food-themed moments from Disney and Pixar films set to “Be Our Guest” begins to delight guests.  After the “Be Our Guest” number is complete, animated curtains are drawn on the monitors for a brief intermission. During this time, guests are encouraged to complete their own drawings, if they have not already done so, so they may be whisked off to Mickey Mouse who is conjuring a magical final act.
While guests enjoy dinner, the restaurant’s walls fill with classic Disney and Pixar characters gathering food, eating and drinking together, and celebrating over meals.

After dinner, the animated curtains are opened on the screens and Sorcerer Mickey returns for the exciting finale.  With a flourish and musical crescendo, Mickey works magic as only Disney can do.  Mickey conjures the guests’ drawings – now fully animated and brought to life – into the onscreen action.
A parade starts as Mickey leads the guests’ drawings in a march across the screens around the dining room.  The animation of the drawings becomes increasingly more elaborate, and then the drawings step into scenes from beloved Disney movies and skip, skate and dance side-by-side with characters such as Mickey Mouse, Jiminy Cricket, Cinderella and Snow White.
At the conclusion of the show, Mickey returns to say “so long” to the guests and, as he does, credits roll on screen showing each guest’s name listed as a guest animator. To commemorate the experience, each guest will have their character drawing returned to them, with an added touch… a golden seal proclaiming them an Official Disney Animator.

Europa Nighttime Entertainment District

On the Disney Fantasy, adult guests step into a world that’s all their own at Europa – a nighttime entertainment district exclusively for guests 18 and older that features sophisticated bars and trendy lounges inspired by the very best in European travel.

  • La Piazza is a lounge that draws inspiration from Italian cities and their decorative outdoor plazas. The bar is modeled after a colorful vintage carousel. Venetian masks, romantic couples’ booths and a classic Vespa with a sidecar add Italian flair.
  • Skyline is a chic bar that provides ever-changing birds-eye views of stunning European city skylines that transform from day to night. Skyline’s “windows to the world” give guests a glimpse of spectacular locales in panorama such as Paris, London, Barcelona, Athens and St. Petersburg.
  • O’Gill’s Pub is a rollicking Irish bar with modern-day twists.  Dark woods, brass accents and a selection of Irish beers create the perfect pub atmosphere where guests can sip a pint while watching live sporting events on one of several high-definition televisions.
  • Ooh La La is inspired by an elegant French boudoir adorned with velvet tufted walls, Victorian furniture and Louis XIV-style chaise lounges. A sensuous color palette is accented with ornate framed mirrors, gold details and a “jewel box” feature bar backed with sparkling diamond-like facets.
  • The Tube transports guests to a vibrant metropolitan club via the London Underground. Guests “mind the gap” as they walk across a Tube route map, lounge among mod furniture, pose by a red English phone booth, dance atop an illuminated Union Jack dance floor and enjoy cocktails at a bar inspired by Big Ben and London’s many train stations.

“Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular”

A new ship means new main stage entertainment at the 1,340-seat Walt Disney Theatre.  New to Disney Cruise Line, “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” takes the stage on the Disney Fantasy.  During this Broadway-style production, guests laugh along with the wise-cracking Genie and the cast from the classic animated Disney film, “Aladdin.”

In this fast-paced musical comedy, Aladdin is back as the “street rat” of Agrabah meeting up with a Genie who grants him three wishes, battling the evil Jafar, and falling in love with Princess Jasmine.
Many of the classic scenes and songs from the movie are re-created on stage and some of the action even spills out into the aisles, like Prince Ali’s jubilant arrival in Agrabah on the back of a stallion. Magic lamps, wise-cracking genies, princesses and evil wizards are all part of this musical production. And of course, an Aladdin production would not be complete without a magic flying carpet scene, which combines mechanical wizardry with state-of-the-art projections, allowing Jasmine and Aladdin to soar as they perform a heartfelt duet of “Whole New World.”
Many of the songs from the movie are featured in the 45-minute musical production, including “Friend Like Me,” which is performed as a lively, Las Vegas-style production number featuring special effects, illusions and more than a dozen dancing genies. Composer Alan Menken, who created the original soundtrack with songwriters Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, composed an original song for the stage production entitled “To Be Free.”

Atrium Lobby – Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse

The magnificent three-deck atrium lobby on the Disney Fantasy is reminiscent of grand ocean liners of the Golden Age.  Art Nouveau-inspired details and patterns in hues of vibrant blue, green, pink and gold lend to the sophistication.  Glamorous and graceful design elements include a sweeping grand staircase, towering fluted columns, grand piano and an exquisite marble and stone inlay floor. A focal point is a cascading chandelier of stained glass and crystal beads.
The pièce de résistance of the magnificent space is the atrium lobby statue – Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse.  Inspired by travel of the 1920s and 1930s, Minnie, cast in bronze and dressed in vintage fashion with a parasol and steamer luggage at her side, serves to welcome all guests who board the ship.

Royal Court Restaurant

At Royal Court restaurant, guests are immersed in the lavish surroundings of an elegant dining room fit for a grand palace.  Royal Court takes design inspiration from the classic Disney films “Cinderella,” “Snow White,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Sleeping Beauty.”  Décor features ornate details and custom furnishings and fixtures that incorporate iconic symbols from the films – glass slippers, apples, roses and tiaras.
An Austrian glass chandelier is a focal point, while eight custom brass and glass lighting fixtures modeled after Cinderella’s coach adorn the room.  Hand-crafted mosaic tile murals of the princesses – Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Jasmine, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) – and their princes grace the walls.  Inspired by the mosaic tile murals in Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom, the Disney Fantasy mosaics are being meticulously created by skilled Italian craftspeople using more than 200,000 individual tiles, with 23 mosaic panels depicting six different vignettes.
With careful attention to detail, many of the restaurant’s features are modeled precisely from the inspirational films. The Royal Court’s chandeliers, chair backs and columns with marble bases and fluted tops are fashioned after those seen in “Beauty and the Beast.”  Wall sconces, decorative patterns, throne-style chairs and the circular floor plan are recreated from “Cinderella.”

The Disney Fantasy will depart on her maiden voyage March 31, 2012, and will sail out of Port Canaveral on seven-night Caribbean itineraries – alternating eastern (St. Maarten and St. Thomas) and western (Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, Cozumel). Special Eastern Caribbean sailings in November and December 2012 stop at St. Thomas and San Juan, Puerto Rico.  All Disney Fantasy itineraries include a stop at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
Rates for the seven-night Caribbean cruise itineraries on the Disney Fantasy start at $959 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.  All pricing reflects a category 11C standard inside stateroom, Government Taxes and Fees not included.

Joe Perry of Aerosmith Rocks with Goofy and Guests

Aerosmith Guitarist Joe Perry Rocks with Goofy and Guests

While Disney’s Hollywood Studios was abuzz last week with all-things-Star Tours, there also was an electric (guitar) feeling in the air along Sunset Blvd., as Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry made a surprise visit to the roller coaster bearing his band’s famous name.

The legendary musician, who recalled riding Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith dozens of times with guests on its opening day in 1999, posed with Goofy in front of the four-story-tall, iconic guitar in the attraction’s courtyard.
