Top 5 Flying Rides at Walt Disney World

Dumbo the Flying Elephant

I’m starting a new series of Top 5’s today, and we’re starting with the flying rides. Let’s see if you agree with my faves!

Alrighty, here…we…gooooo!

1)      Peter Pan’s Flight – A popular Magic Kingdom draw, happy thoughts and pixie dust power this adventure. Climb aboard a pirate galleon for a fanciful flight from the Darlings’ London home to the Lost Boys’ haunts of Never Land. There’s often a long line—and long FastPass waits—for Peter Pan’s Flight, but according to my kids, it’s a must-ride attraction, because it completely immerses you in the Peter Pan movie.

Did you know? While the popular girls’ name Wendy was in use by the late 1800s in England and the United States, it was popularized by the 1904 play by J.M. Barrie.

7 Questions You Should Not Ask Disney Cast Members

7 Questions You Should Not Ask Disney Cast Members

Having visited the parks as much as we have and working there twice, many things have been brought to my attention. That includes some of the strange requests, odd choices, and over-the-top questions that spawn from the minds of guests.

Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t expected of everyone to have visited the parks as much as we did so there are always new things to learn. That’s for myself included. But there are certain inquiries out there that just don’t need to be asked anymore because they are just almost brought forth verbatim from guest after guest. Also…a little common sense and 30 seconds of extra thought will probably answer the question for you.

Without further ado, here are seven questions that you should not ask cast members. Included is a little bit of information and responses I would have liked to have given as a cast member but couldn’t. That’s of course for those that aren’t yet sure why these questions need to be avoided.

Disneyland: Sunrise to Sunrise by TouringPlans author and photographer Tom Bricker

Disneyland: Sunrise to Sunrise by TouringPlans author and photographer Tom Bricker

Disneyland: Sunrise to Sunrise is the first TouringPlans eBook, which is a collection of over 200 photos from one single operational day in Disneyland, specifically “One More Disney Day.” Touring Plans author Tom Bricker captured all of the photos in the eBook as he ran around Disneyland during the course of that morning, day, night, and morning (again). He was one of the crazy Disneyland guests in the park on “One More Disney Day” from start to the very finish, and he snapped hundreds of photos along the way to document the day.

If you’re not a regular reader of the TouringPlans Blog, you may recognize his photography from the Unofficial Guide: Color Companion to Walt Disney WorldDisneyland: Sunrise to Sunrise by TouringPlans author and photographer Tom Bricker, Popular Photography Magazine, or his daily Disney photos. As Chief Photographer for TouringPlans, he is also responsible for the photos at the top of each page of the Touring Plans website and the attraction photo galleries, among other things.

Disneyland: Sunrise to Sunrise highlights some of Tom’s favorite photos that he captured on that single operational day in Disneyland and presents them to you in one attractive eBook. Throughout the book he has also presented some of his favorite little tidbits of trivia, such as the inspiration for the original Tomorrowland Moonliner and why Snow White was ultimately added to Snow White’s Scary Adventures attraction in Fantasyland. If you’re a fan of the Disney theme parks, I think you’ll enjoy this fresh and beautiful look at one day in Disneyland.

We’re pretty excited about this first TouringPlans eBook. The whole Touring Plans team has put a lot of work into it, and we think you’ll really enjoy it!

Step Up Blu-Ray Review

Step Up Blu-Ray Review

Step Up danced its way on store shelves July 3.   For the first time ever on Blu-Ray,  Step Up has been digitally remastered and is ready to take the spotlight.  This is the first of the Step Up movies (you might have heard of  Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, and the upcoming Step Up Revolution).  With a catchy soundtrack, amazing choreography, and a cute love story, Step Up is the perfect summer movie!

Tyler, played by the ever so handsome Channing Tatum, is sentenced to community service after vandalizing a local school for the arts.  Not being able to stomach the thought of being around the rich and stuck up art school students, Tyler sets to task scrubbing, mopping, and cleaning.  That is until he meets Nora (Tatum’s real life wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum), a student from the performing arts school whose passion for dancing has taken the lead in her life.  When her dance partner for the senior showcase is injured, Tyler cuts in to save the day and in turn, he and Nora develop an intricately choreographed relationship!  I won’t give away the ending just in case you haven’t watched it yet!

Determined to change her fate, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane), unleashing chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters), she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources including her mischievous triplet brothers to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery.

Taking your teen to Walt Disney World

Teens Take on the World

Is your teen ready to go it alone at Walt Disney World Resort? Small children see the Parks through pixie dusted lenses. Everything is magical and memorable and perfect. As they age, though, a little of that pixie dust wears off. A Disney trip may still be fun, but tagging along with Mom and Dad and little siblings can be a drag.

The teenagers I know keep their love of The Most Magical Place on Earth alive by stepping out on their own. They taste some independence, and they discover the World’s not so small after all when you’re free to fly solo.

I have a teenager, and yes, I have set him loose to take on the World sans Mom and Dad. He wasn’t completely alone; we were still on property. However, he was responsible for his own whereabouts and welfare. He had a handful of cash for snacks and souvenirs, plus his Key to the World, which was loaded with Disney Dining credits if he needed more substance, and he was ready to go. Not once did I worry, because we had established some boundaries beforehand.

Disney Store will debut its limited edition Sparky-Saurus vinyl figure, inspired by the upcoming Tim Burton film from Disney, Frankenweenie, in the Funko booth (#4829) at Comic-Con International 2012 in San Diego, California. Inspired by the unique aesthetic of the stop-motion black and white film, Sparky-Saurus is attached to a base that looks like the homemade movie set constructed in a scene from the film. Only 1,000 Sparky-Saurus vinyl figures will be available at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Also at Comic-Con, a preview of Disney Store’s fall assortment of Frankenweenie merchandise will be on display at Walt Disney Studio’s Art of Frankenweenie booth (#3635).

Disney Store also announced that its new snack food-inspired Vinylmation series, So Tasty, will release at the Funko booth at SDCC. The So Tasty series is the first Disney Store-designed Vinylmation series ever sold at Comic-Con. An extension of the first So Tasty series, which launched at Disney Store in April 2012, the So Tasty Comic-Con series features eight scented vinyl figures that look and smell like everyone’s favorite snack foods. The series features flavors like orange soda, pizza, caramel apple and cotton candy, and two of the eight figures in the series will be released each day, from Thursday to Sunday at the convention. To thank fans, Disney Store will give away limited edition So Tasty-themed paper chef hats throughout Comic-Con weekend (supplies are limited).

Avoid these Rides If You Are Prone To Motion Sickness

Avoid these Rides If You Are Prone To Motion Sickness

Motion sickness is something that can really mess up your day. Some folks are extremely susceptible and they either have to skip some of Walt Disney World’s best attractions or find a treatment that helps keep you from getting that horrible queasy feeling (or worse).

There are as many ways to calm motion sickness as there are people with that issue. I can’t recommend any but I have found one that works for me so before you go experimenting you might want to check with your Doctor to see what she/he recommends. If you don’t want to go that route, here are six rides I would caution you to avoid.
