It is That Time Again for Dapper Day at Disney

It is That Time Again for Dapper Day at Disney

Hollywood Studios is getting ready for its next fan-based event, a special day that is not officially aligned with the theme parks, but it is a day to dress up and visit Disney World or Disneyland for Dapper Day.  On September 7th in Disneyland and September 8th at Hollywood Studios, visitors for Dapper Day will honor it as a day to dress up and visit Disney.  Guests will come dressed in costume that reminds one of the old Imagineer illustrations in which Epcot guests were dressed as if they were going to the opera or a high-end restaurant. These illustrations are what inspired Dapper Day’s concept said organizer Justin Jorgensen.

“Wouldn’t it be really great if just for once we could make these illustrations come to life?” Jorgensen thought.

Participants come dressed in costumes anywhere from the 1890’s to modern-day. One can tell from photographs from past Dapper Days that there is a penchant for bow-ties from many guests. Joegensen expects some 1940’s and 1950’s wear this year since it will be hosted in Hollywood Studios. After the park closes the group plans to continue the day at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.

Jorgensen says the special attire makes an excellent photo opportunity with the park as a backdrop.

“That’s the No. 1 draw of Dapper Days — people taking photos in the park,” he says. “Their photos just become spectacular.”

Take a day off and try a boat ride

Take a day off and try a boat ride

There are a lot of things to do on days you do not visit the theme parks. In this new series I am going to highlight a different option with each article. For this first time I am going to highlight boat rentals!

Water craft rentals are available at many resorts including: The Grand Floridian, The Contemporary Resort,  The Wilderness Lodge, The Polynesian, Fort Wilderness, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Caribbean Beach Resort, Port Orleans, Coronado Springs, Old Key West and at Down Town Disney. The types of boats available varies from resort to resort so it is good to know what type of boat you are interested before heading out.

A discount voucher of 15% is usually included in any magic your way package so boating is an activity worth trying out!

Types of water crafts available:

Sea Raycers: are small engine powered crafts that hold two people. Though they aren’t super fast they are one of the quicker options available for rental.  Price $32 for 30min or $45 for 60 minutes plus tax.

Boston Whaler Montauk: These engine powered vessels with a canopy that  hold up to six guests and are quite fun to putz around on. Again, they do not go fast, but an afternoon checking out Bay Lake or Seven Seas Lagoon is meant to be enjoyed not rushed. $45 per half hour plus tax

Sun Tracker Pontoon Boat: These boats can hold up to ten passengers. They are larger crafts set on large flotation devices, called pontoons. (Pretty obvious I suppose) They are fairly easy to navigate and a great way to bring a big group out. Pack a lunch if you like! $45 per half hour

Sail Boats: You can rent these small and beautifully colored boats at certain marinas. They can hold up to two guests and the cost of rental is $20 per hour.

Canoes and Kayaks: These water crafts are a great way to enjoy the water at a leisurely pace while also getting in a work out! Canoes can hold up to 3 passengers while kayaks can only hold two. They are available for $11 per hour.

Paddle Boats: Paddle Boats can hold up to four guests. This is a great option for a family looking to spend some time together. Without breaking the bank. Paddle boats are available for $11 per hour.

Want to try some more extreme water sports? Head over to Sammy Duvalls at The Contemporary Resort where you can try things like parasailing, tubing, wake boarding and water skiing!

Go ahead! Take a day off or even an afternoon off from touring the parks and enjoy some of the other things Disney has to offer!

Have you ever been boating at Disney before?

Billy Crystal Talks Plot Details for “Monsters University”

Billy Crystal Talks Plot Details for "Monsters University"

When the trailers for “Monsters University” were released this past June, we found out quite a few tidbits about the upcoming prequel to “Monsters, Inc.”.  One being it takes place when Mike and Sully are attending college, hence the name “Monsters University.”  In those same four trailers, we find that Sully pranks Mike to hilarious results as Pixar showcases it’s version of a “college” movie. We get to see Sully and Mike and how they explore the college years and all the “typical” experiences  – with all the partying, pranking, and studying that goes along with two guys preparing to become professional scream-catchers.

Recently, during an interview, Billy Crystal talks about “Monsters University” and what to expect as well as releasing a few morsels that have not yet been released by Disney or Pixar.

Disney is Ready to Reboot “The Rocketeer”

Disney is Ready to Reboot "The Rocketeer"

For those of you that do not remember “The Rocketeer”, it was a “period adventure” movie that was a feature film in 1991, that did not do so well at the box office but had decent critic reviews. In the recent few years, director Joe Johnston,  also from “Captain America: The First Avenger”, has been trying to get a sequel to The Rocketeer .

“The Rocketeer” is a comic book series that follows the story of a reckless, but heroic pilot named Cliff Secord in the 1930’s and 40’s, set around L.A. and New York, who finds a rocket pack created by Howard Hughes. “The Rocketeer” (Cliff Secord) uses the jet pack to secretly to battle enemies, including the Nazis.  It is easy to find comparisons between “The Rocketeer” and “Iron Man,” which started Marvel Studios on its path to greatness back in 2008.

Vulture has learned from inside sources that Disney is developing a return to the ’80s comic book series created by David Stevens under the direction of new studio chief Alan Horn. Disney has not confirmed the project yet but considering most of Disney’s successful projects from the past few years has been from their affiliates (Marve, Pixar, and The Muppets), it would make sense to focus on more lucrative projects with the different subsidiaries.

The 1991 film produced by Walt Disney Pictures starred Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton and Paul Sorvino and was created by writer/artist Dave Stevens.

The Carousel Of Progress – A True Walt Original

The Carousel Of Progress - A True Walt Original

There are a lot of truly amazing attractions at Walt Disney World. One of the most amazing and possibly also the most overlooked is the Carousel of Progress located at the Magic Kingdom

The Carousel Of Progress - A True Walt Original

This attraction was one of several that Walt showcased at the1964 New York World’s Fair, others that debuted/were inspired by attractions here were It’s A Small World, the PeopleMover, and the Hall Of Presidents – all of which are now classic WDW attractions. The Carousel itself was originally moved from the Fair to Disneyland, and then in 1975 it was relocated to Walt Disney World, where it has remained since then, delighting audiences daily
