Five Things To Do Before Your First or Fiftieth Disney Vacation

Five Things To Do Before Your First or Fiftieth Disney Vacation

Congratulations, you have just booked your first (or fifitieth!) Disney vacation! But, now what? You’ve figured out your hotel, your flight, and booked an amazing package with tickets included. Nothing left to worry about, right?

That’s not quite true. Most people think that’s the end of vacation planning, but it’s not, at least where Disney is concerned. A decent plan in place could vastly improve your Disney vacation.

First and foremost, follow a reputable Disney Blog. You’re already here at Chip & Co. though so I won’t include that on my list.

  1. Read a guide book. Most people recommend The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (for the most comprehensive look at the resort) or The Passporter (the most fun and personalized). I don’t have an opinion either way, except that buying one, or checking one out from the library, is a good idea for planning a stress free vacation.
  2. Sit with your family and decide if you want to do any Character Dining or Signature Dining. If you do, decide and book those 180 days prior to your arrival date. Some of the restaurants book up fast, so it’s important that you do this early in your vacation planning.

Disney Confidential – Are Comedy Shows Coming to the New Fantasyland?

Disney Confidential - Are Comedy Shows Coming to the New Fantasyland?

Here there guys and gals Anonymouse here.

Once again this is a shout out to all Disney Addicts, especially those of us who have our ears to the ground for any rumors or info about the new Fantasyland expansion, and some of our ears (Chimp) are quite large and have passed around some tidbits of rumors recently.

There is some information leaking that the NEW Fantasyland expansion may be incorporating comedy shows to the entertainment side of Fantasyland. Well, the information “leaking” is really being put together by some real info. First, last week there was a twitter message from Disney,

“two new entertainment offerings for #NewFantasyland are now under development. More to come soon on the @disneyparks Blog”.

Next, a very clear message with a recruitment notice that backs up this info:

Disney Auditions is seeking Male and Female Comedic Actors for two new entertainment offerings appearing in the Magic Kingdom® Park at the Walt Disney World® Resort near Orlando, FL. These highly interactive, comedic and unique atmospheric experiences will bring fun and fantasy to each Guest. Each experience demands high energy and a passion for seeking out guest interaction. Physical comedy, improv skills are required. For the audition, come prepared with one – 1 minute comedic monologue.

Word on the street…is there are going to be live comedy shows similar to the Epcot World Showcase Players that will be entertaining us in the new Beauty and the Beast Village area.

What you think this is a good idea or bad? Let me know in the comment box below.

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now. For my past Gossip articles be sure to check them out here.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3, "Viva La Fiesta!" available on September 18th

Hola Chihuahua Fans!  On September 18th, 2012, Disney will “unleash” BEVERLY HILLS  CHIHUAHUA 3, VIVA LA FIESTA! on Blu-Ray  Combo Pack, DVD and Digital.  Hollywood’s favorite Chihuahuas,  Papi and Chloe are back, joined by their five playful pups for a fiesta of family friendly fun.  I am looking forward to sitting down with my kids (5 and 17months) and my four legged family member (not a Chihuahua) to watch this film.  Be sure to keep an eye out for my review in September on Chipandco.com!

“The Dog Low”

It’s canine chaos as Papi’s family (two and four-legged) move into the posh Langham Hotel, complete with a luxurious doggy spa.  But there’s trouble in puppy paradise when Rosa, the littlest member of the pack, feels smaller and less special than ever.  Now it’s up to Papi to help Rosa find her inner strength, which turns out to be bigger than she ever dreamed.  The story reminds us how important family, friends and teamwork are for both humans and canines.

Barneys of New York and Disney Announce Holiday 2012 Campaign: Electric Holiday

Barneys of New York and Disney Announce Holiday 2012 Campaign: Electric Holiday

Barneys New York, the luxury specialty retailer, and The Walt Disney Company, the world’s leading entertainment company, announced today their collaboration on the 2012 Holiday campaign at Barneys New York retail venues: Electric Holiday. A multi-platform initiative infused with fashion and fantasy, Electric Holiday will merge the creativity and magic of Disney with the wit and surprise of the legendary Barneys New York annual holiday campaign to create a celebration of festive modern electric lights, music and fashion.

Beginning in mid-November, the Barneys New York Madison Avenue windows will serve as the centerpiece of the Electric Holiday campaign in which an exclusive moving art short created by Disney artists, will be showcased amid a celebration of lights. Disney has also created a modern, three-dimensional electric light show that will encompass the Madison Avenue store entrance and showcase the moving art housed within the windows. To accompany the façade and moving art, Oscar®-winning composer Michael Giacchino is creating an original score of highly-charged music to bring the show to life.

The Electric Holiday program and the Madison Avenue flagship’s windows will be unveiled on November 14th. Air France will be supporting the Holiday 2012 campaign with an integrated promotion and the Electric Holiday light show will feature innovative display technology, using Christie® MicroTiles®, from Christie Digital Systems USA, Inc.

Marvel’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Pilot Moves Forward at ABC With Joss Whedon

Marvel's 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' Pilot Moves Forward at ABC With Joss Whedon

Last month we reported that Marvel would be making  new show for ABC, set inside the Marvel film universe. Not long after, we discovered Joss Whedon had signed a three year deal with Marvel, where he would not only be writing and directing ‘The Avengers 2’, but he would be fully involved in the development of Marvel’s Phase 2, as well as helping develop the new Marvel show. At the time, we had no idea what the Marvel TV show would consist of, but I had a sneaking suspicion at the time we may be doing a TV show set within Marvel’s secret agent division, ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’. It seemed like the best idea at the time as a series, something that could be produced on a solid budget without being too expensive, and something that would allow us to explore a side of the Marvel universe we don’t normally see. Well, Deadline is now reporting that ABC has greenlit ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ to pilot, with Joss Whedon on board to produce, co-write, and possibly direct. Hit the jump for more.

Main Street USA – Not Just A Road To The Castle

Main Street USA - Not Just A Road To The Castle

How many times have you speedwalked (or ran!) down Main Street USA so that you could get on Space/Thunder/Splash Mountain right when the Magic Kingdom opened? I know I am certainly guilty of ignoring Main Street in favor of other things, but there are MANY great reasons to slow down and enjoy the scenery on Main Street, and here are just a few:

Food – There are is so much delicious food available on Main Street that you could happily graze all day! Grab a delicious hot dog at Casey’s Corner followed by ice cream at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, Or some delicious baked goods at the Main Street Bakery, or candy at the Main Street Confectionary. If you are more in the mood for a sit down meal, try the Plaza Restaurant, Tony’s Town Square, or my personal favorite, the Crystal Palace , where they serve breakfast lunch and dinner buffet style and Pooh and friends come to visit! One thing is for sure, you won’t go hungry while on Main Street USA!

Craigslist Ticket Scam Continues to Upset Park Guests Plans

Craigslist Ticket Scam Continues to Upset Park Guests Plans

Online ticket scams continue to hit Disneyland in a big way this summer. Potential Disneyland park guests are paying money for bogus tickets. Recently, a Pleasanton woman bought 8 one day Disneyland Park Hopper passes for $800. Once she drove herself and her family on the six-hour trip to Disneyland she found out they were no good. Police have a suspect but no arrests have been made. What they have found out is the person that is allegedly selling the illegal tickets purchased them on July 19 and they were received on July 31st. Apparrently the suspect purchased and printed the passes but then cancelled them and voided the sale. This makes the tickets look real but are fake and are not able to get anyone in to Disneyland.

Another case of the Disneyland ticket scam that has happened recently, but are unrelated, is a 51-year old woman was arrested last summer for 10 similar scams. For some of the ticket scams, she met her victims at the Cheesecake Factory or P.F. Changs at Stoneridge Shopping Center and was “selling” three-day park hopper passes for between $250 and $300. The victims in this care are finding out that the tickets were never activated and the receipts that the suspect provided to prove the passes were valid were faked.

Take a Day Off from the Parks and try Archery

Take a Day Off from the Parks and try Archery

There is so much to do and see at Disney World, but often people want an element of peace and quiet attached to their vacation. A great way to do this is to take some time off from theme park touring and explore one of the many other activities Disney has to offer.

One of the things that is offered that many people do not know about is Archery! Any aspiring Merida or Robin Hood ages six and up can participate.

Archery lessons usually take place Thursday through Saturday at Fort Wilderness Campground, though I was informed they have offered this activity daily throughout August due to popular demand! Archery is offered from 2:45-4:15 only and it is recommend that you have reservations. Reservations are limited to about ten guests. Once you have made your reservation simply arrive 15 minutes early at the bike barn at Fort Wilderness to check in. You will be escorted to the archery range.

During your 90 minutes on the shooting range you will learn how to shoot the bow and arrow and receive tips from the professional staff. You will have plenty of time to take aim and practice your skills. You need not have any previous archery experience to participate.

The cost of this activity is $25 plus tax per person.

My Tip:  For a leisurely day, take the morning off to relax by the pool before heading out to Fort Wilderness. Pair your afternoon archery lesson with a reservation at Trails End Restaurant for dinner. After you get your fill on their delicious food you can take the boat to the Magic Kingdom to enjoy a few rides before heading back to your hotel. You will feel relaxed a refreshed having taken the early part of the day slowly!

Study Finds Toxic Chemicals in Back to School Supplies

Study Finds Toxic Chemicals in Back to School Supplies

A new study shows that 75% of all  children’s school supplies contain high levels of potentially toxic phthalates which is dangerous for children and was banned in toys in the past. The study was released yesterday by the Center for Health, Environment & Justice (CHEJ) and U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

Mike Schade, author of the CHEJ report, said in a statement: “Unfortunately, while phthalates have been banned in children’s toys, similar safeguards don’t yet exist to keep them out of lunchboxes, backpacks and other children’s school supplies. It’s time for Congress to move forward and pass the Safe Chemicals Act to protect our children and schools from toxic exposure.”

The study tested 20 children’s products that is currently on store shelves, including The Disney Princess Lunchbox and Disney’s Dora the Explorer Backpack, and 3/4 of them contained these high lives of phthalates.

“When kids take their lunch to school this fall, they shouldn’t be carrying it in a lunchbox laden with toxic chemicals,” said Schumer in a statement.
