Toy Story Showtime! on Sale in the App Store

It’s “Back to School” time!  While some kids are excited for school to start – others are not.  Words like “school,” “education,” and “learning,” can be a turn-off to kids.  However, Disney Publishing has taken a different approach to learning!  Their interactive apps engage children in guided learning and fun activities – they may not even realize they’re boosting their brain power!  Right now, all Disney Learning apps will be only $1.99 on the App Store (orig. $4.99) from August 29th – September 12th!

“Toy Story Showtime!” is a Disney Learning interactive storybook, recommended for children ages 4-6, and designed to help children explore essential early reading concepts. Kids are invited to join Buzz Lightyear as he sets out to impress Jessie the Cowgirl in the talent show. As Buzz tries his luck at everything from comedy to juggling, emerging readers discover new vocabulary words in the context of a rich, interactive storytelling experience. Bonus activities encourage children to use the vocabulary in both guided and exploratory play.

Disney World Parks Pet Peeves:You Down With PPP? (Yeah You Know Me)

Disney World Parks Pet Peeves:You Down With PPP? (Yeah You Know Me)

Have I mentioned lately how much I absolutely love Walt Disney World? There’s nothing in this world like walking down Main Street, U.S.A. with Cinderella Castle looming in the distance, the beautiful sounds of the Mainstreet vehicles, clop clop clop of the horse’s hooves, meeting and greeting the Mayor and his wife, oh and the sweet heavenly scents wafting from the Main Street Bakery.

I do love Disney, really, I do. You could even call me twitterpated, but sometimes it makes me want to punch someone in the throat. I’m not a violent person, not at all. I love sweet furry little critters, especially my three that walk on two legs. I mean, I gave birth to them, so they do tug at my heart-strings. I wave at folks passing by on the Ferry, I will hold the door open for a mum or dad struggling to juggle a stroller and a toddler, I’ll even give away awesome FastPasses for rides like Soarin’ or Toy Story Midway Mania (the horror!). I’m not entirely heartless. Sometimes, though, I need a wall at Disney World, just to bang my head against.

Let’s see what Wikipedia has to say about the words “pet peeve”:

A pet peeve (or pet hate) is a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to them, to a greater degree than others may find it.

Bluray Review: ‘Pocahontas’ and ‘Pocahontas II’ on Blu-Ray

Bluray Review: 'Pocahontas' and 'Pocahontas II' on Blu-Ray

First off, I’d like to thank Chip for letting me review this one. ‘Pocahontas’ has always had a super special place in my heart. When I was 3 1/2 my parents and I won a trip to New York City for the release of the film. I’ve loved the film pretty much my entire life. Having the chance to watch it remastered in Blu-Ray was so exciting for me and I’m glad I had the opportunity.

If you haven’t seen ‘Pocahontas’ in a long time, here’s a (very quick) refresher: The film tells the story of free-spirited Native American Pocahontas and her tribe’s encounter with settlers from England. Pocahontas falls for white-skinned settler Captain John Smith, helping the English and Native Americans set aside their differences.

I had actually never seen ‘Pocahontas II’ until I got to review the films. I was a little nervous watching it since I hadn’t heard the best things about it, but it actually wasn’t as awful as I was told. It wasn’t nearly as good as the original film, but it wasn’t completely un-watchable.

In ‘Pocahontas II’, Pocahontas journeys to London with John Rolfe on behalf of the King. There, she tries to create peace between the Native Americans and the new English civilization of Jamestown in America, but Governor Ratcliffe interferes.

Select Animal Kingdom Restaurants are Getting New Menu Items

According to AJ at the Disney Food Blog,  Animal Kingdom updating some of the menus with great success! Restaurantosaurus, Flame Tree Barbecue, and Pizzafari all had a menu makeover and have some very appealing new options to try out. These are already up and running and ready for the Disney “foodie” in all of us to review.

Restaurantosaurus

Restaurantosaurus had a significant menu change, adding several new items:

Chicken BLT Salad (priced at $9.19) With a very light ranch dressing, this is perfect on a hot day! Crisp greens with chunks of tomato, baked chicken strips, bites of bacon, and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese.

Chicken Sandwich (priced at $9.59) The chicken sandwich has a tomato bruschetta topping with hints of basil and garlic, along with bacon bits and shredded cheddar cheese! This sandwich is served hot and is “just a perfect combination, thoroughly enjoyable!” says a Disney Food Blog reviewer.

Specialty Hot Dogs  There are two new hot dog menu items as well.

First, the standard chili and cheese dog (priced at $9.59) is topped with jalapeno pepper rings and corn chips, making it appealing to those who might like their entree a bit spicy!

Second, the very original macaroni and cheese dog (priced at $8.79), topped with a sprinkle of bread crumbs.

Flame Tree Barbecue

Over at Flame Tree, there’s an updated salad and kids’ entree to try…

Flame Tree Barbecue Salad (priced at $8.99) According to the Disney Food Blog reviewer, Flame Tree Barbecue has changed their signature salad to one that is packed with crispy lettuce, garbanzo and pinto beans, cheddar cheese, corn, and crispy tortilla strips coated with their signature spice rub! They dress the salad with a balsamic dressing that also has hints of BBQ.

Kids’ Barbecue Chicken Sandwich This chicken sandwich is the new kids’ offering at Flame Tree. It includes fresh breast of chicken with their signature rub, and topped with lettuce and tomato.

Pizzafari

Pizzafari Pasta and Chicken Salad (priced at $9.25) Whole wheat pasta, chunky roasted vegetables, oven dried tomatoes, and fresh leafy spinach tossed with the oven dried tomato dressing. The herbed chicken is moist, and the dressing is light.

Tell us what you think about the new items, if you have tried any yet and also, in general how you feel about Animal Kingdom’s dining options in the comments section below!

Couple Linked To Slain Disney Worker Detained In Georgia

Couple Linked To Slain Disney Worker Detained In Georgia

As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, a couple wanted for questioning in the murder of a 30-year-old Disney castmember was taken into custody Tuesday after Georgia authorities found them with the victim’s stolen vehicle.

Thomas Heath was charged with grand theft auto after Jay Stone’s vehicle disappeared from his Vizcaya Lane Road apartment, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.  Stone was found dead in his apartment on Saturday just days after he had become friends with Thomas and his wife Shanna.  Stone was reported missing by his parent ten days after the Heath family moved into his apartment.  He had not reported to work, one of his credit cards had been used and his vehicle was missing.

Stone had written on his Facebook page that he was a custodial worker at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom on Main Street U.S.A. and in Tomorrowland.

‘People Like Us’ Releases on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital & On Demand October 2nd

'People Like Us' Releases on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital & On Demand October 2nd

I am excited that in the next few weeks I get to review a movie that I have never seen, especially one that is coming from the “chick flick genre” – this is it’s own genre right? “People Like Us” is based on a real life story, which I love, and this one is coming from the  same studio that brought us “The Help” so what could go wrong? Also, the amount of bonus material that comes on the “People Like Us” Blu-ray combo pack is exciting! The behind the scenes audio commentary on the Blu-ray version is with all the main actors and the writer/director Alex Kurtzman. Plus one of my favorite bonus features on the Blu-ray edition is Bloopers. I always find it entertaining to watch the actors mess up and become real people so I am looking forward to that part. The whole storyline seems to fit a drama that will turn out predictable and have a good message. I may be surprised in the end…but I doubt it. That is okay though as long as it is well written and the actors do a good job, then it will be enjoyable.

To hear more in depth about what the movie is about in “People Like Us” comes an emotional and inspirational story about a young man’s journey of self discovery as he connects with a family he barely knows. Starring Chris Pine (Star Trek),Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games), Olivia Wilde (Tron) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Dark Shadows), DreamWorks Pictures releases “People Like Us” – a must-own, heartfelt and relatable story – on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD, Digital and On-Demand on October 2, 2012.

Disney’s Stores’ Rent At Airport Reduced By New Contract

Disney's Stores' Rent At Airport Reduced By New Contract

According to the Orlando Sentinel Walt Disney Parks & Resorts has negotiated a new contract with Orlando International Airport reducing the amount it pays for it’s two gift shops by hundreds of thousands dollars.

The new contract not only reduces the minimum rent that Disney pays on its two stores in the airport’s main terminal but it is also expected to reduce the percentage of sales that Disney pays for the privilege of selling souvenirs. Disney had argued that it pays higher minimum rents and percentages of its sales than the airport’s other themed-retail stores.

Disney has “The Magic of Disney” store, located at the western end of the terminal and “Disney’s Earport” which is at the eastern end of the terminal, and leads to gates for the airport’s busiest carrier, Southwest Airlines.

Disney defended the newly negotiated contract saying that it accurately reflects changes in business conditions since the last contract was signed.
