Disney to Back to School App Sale Happening Now!

Disney publishing is starting the school year off right with three learning apps on sale.  I’m super excited about these, because my daughter is forever asking if she can play a game on my iPad.  Why not let her learn something alongside her favorite Disney characters, too?  From August 29-September 12th, all Disney learning apps will be $1.99 on the App Store.  What a steal!  They’re usually $4.99.  Disney learning apps will be a great addition to your iPad app collection-good entertainment for those road trips or flights to Disney, right?

‘Castle: The Complete Fourth Season’ Cracks the Case on DVD September 11, 2012

'Castle: The Complete Fourth Season' Cracks the Case on DVD September 11, 2012

Fans of ‘Castle’, rejoice! Everyone’s favorite crime solving duo are back, and better than ever, in ‘Castle: The Complete Fourth Season’, coming to DVD on September 11, 2012. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic are back in season four of ABC’s hit series, which picks up following the shocking conclusion of season three. I’m not a huge fan of procedural shows, but I’m an avid ‘Castle’ fan. After discovering Nathan Fillion on ‘Firefly’, one of my all time favorite shows that was sadly cut far too short, I couldn’t wait for him to return to television. Thankfully, over the past four years, ‘Castle’ has proven to be the perfect vehicle for not only him, but Stana Katic as well, who plays Kate Beckett, Richard Castle’s muse of sorts for his novel series, Nikki Heat. This is currently one of the best shows on TV, that is fronted by a spectacular cast and excellent writing, really elevating over most things on TV. Not surprisingly, it looks like Disney’s release of ‘The Complete Fourth’ season won’t disappoint either, adding another excellent set for ‘Castle’ fans to add to their collections.

Helpful Hints for the Disney Dining Plan

Helpful Hints for the Disney Dining Plan

No matter how you slice it, the Disney Dining Plan can be confusing!  At first glance, it appears to be very structured, but as you use it more and become comfortable, you’ll see that you do have a lot of options and flexibility while on it.  But, I’m hoping that today I can share with you some frequently asked questions, along with some easy answers.  While sharing my thoughts with you, I’m going to base everything on a 3 night, 4 day stay at Disney for a family of four.

Q:  How many meals and snacks do I get during  my trip?

A:  You get one Quick Service meal, one Table Service meal, and one snack PER PERSON, PER NIGHT stay of your trip. So, you each get 3 QSD, 3 TS, and 3 snacks.  As a family, that’s  12 QSD, 12 TS, and 12 snacks.

Agent P vs Kim Possible Was change really needed?

Recently Epcot replaced the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventurewith Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure. If you ask my daughter the question, “Was change really needed?” She would say a very strong no. She loved Kim and dressed up as her for a Halloween and never missed an episode.

I remember hearing a while back that Disney was going to try to appeal to more boys then they have in the past, I would say they accomplished this with the new Agent P World Showcase Adventure.

Some of you with older children may remember the show Kim Possible. She was an animated super hero by night and regular high school cheerleader by day. My daughter loved that show, and I must admit I did too. Kim was a great role model for young girls by showing them that you can do anything that you put your mind too, even things that are not typically considered for girls.  Kim would save the world from Drakken and Shego in every episode. After she fought evil she would go back to her daily activities like nothing ever happened. Everytime we went to Epcot we would have to do the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure. She loved because it made her feel like she was a part of the show and we know no one accomplishes that better then Disney.

My daughter didn’t understand why they had to change it because she felt that it wasn’t needed. I could see where change was needed because Disney has to keep up with the times so to speak. Kim Possible is no longer on tv so the younger kids today have no idea who she is, so if they don’t know her then they will not want to play the game. Agent P is very popular now so he will draw the younger kids in.

I think it’s a good lesson for kids to learn that things will change over time and we have to adjust to new and different things. New things may not always be like our old favorites but you never know the new thing may turn out to be even better then the old favorite.

Have any of you tried both of the adventures ? If so which one did you like better?

AllergyFreeMouse.com and Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free at WDW Blog Present: IllumiNations Dessert Party

AllergyFreeMouse.com and Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free at WDW Blog Present: IllumiNations Dessert Party

A private dessert party aimed towards individuals affected by food allergies and intolerances is being held December 15, 2012 at the France Pavilion at Epcot® in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This event is being hosted by the Gluten Free & Dairy Free at WDW Blog and Allergy Free Mouse. Both of these groups provide dining reviews, tips, and planning advice to the special diets community interested in traveling to Walt Disney World. Blog author and host, Sarah Norris, says that this dessert party not only helps bring awareness to the increasing prevalence of food allergies and intolerances, but also allows attendees with special diets to meet one another. “This event is a great way to connect with others in the special diets community and to share tips and tricks about dining safely with a special diet.”

The event will include a dessert buffet in which all items will made to be free of the top 8 common allergens (including gluten/wheat, dairy, egg, soy, nut, corn, fish, and shellfish), something that is very important to Liz and Jeff Reynolds, hosts and authors of Allergy Free Mouse. “It’s important to be as inclusive as possible,” says Liz. Items on the dessert buffet will vary from chocolate raspberry cupcakes to peach and blueberry cobbler. Guests will be emailed a list of all ingredients prior to the event, and the each item on the buffet will be clearly labeled with its corresponding ingredients list.

Disney Releases Lincoln Black and White One Sheet

Disney Releases Lincoln Black and White One Sheet

Many actors through the years have had the chance to portray one of America’s most famous Presidents.  But on Wednesday Disney released the one sheet for their upcoming movie “Lincoln” which will star Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th President of the United States.

A Steven Spielberg film, there is an impressive supporting cast around Day-Lewis as Sally Field will play Mary Todd Lincoln, and the film will also feature Joseph Gordon Levitt as their son Robert Todd Lincoln and Tommy Lee Jones.

The film will focus on President Lincoln’s tumultuous final months in office and is scheduled for a November release.

Escaping the Rain at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

Until our trip last September, I had never visited the Walt Disney World parks in the rain. At least not anytime that I can remember. In the hot, muggy summer months odds are you are going to encounter the same problem. Luckily, rain showers in Florida don’t last too long so you can grab a bite to eat or see a show and by the time you are done the rain will have stopped. But in case you get stuck with the rain showers all day, here are a list of things that we like to do to escape the rain in each park.

Things You Thought You’d NEVER Hear a Teacher Say…”Have Fun at Disney!”

Things You Thought You'd NEVER Hear a Teacher Say..."Have Fun at Disney!"

Chances are, for you, the new school is probably  here or just around the corner.  My school starts back this week!  I love the feeling of the new school year!  I love seeing new faces, old friends, and getting into all the fun that encompasses the year!  I really do love my job!  So, as I’ve strolled the stores and seen school supplies on sale, I was inspired to do a “back to school-ish” post!   Today we are taking a look at what I do for my students who are going to Disney World or on a Disney Cruise during the school year!

Now, I know, most teachers would probably rather you not pull your child out for a vacation during the school year.  After all, the common thought is, “why not take them during the summer!”.  But, I being a HUGE Disney fan and a teacher see both sides.  With less crowds, less heat, and more ride time, I am all in favor of going to Disney when it works for your family (and who are we kidding, really, I am in favor of going to Disney all the time :D).  You see, I think EVERY opportunity is full of teachable moments.  The rich conversations born out of Disney trips makes me so excited for what my students will bring back.  From mapping the trip to learning about birds from all over the world at Flights of Wonder, there really isn’t a dull moment at Disney.
