Limited Space Still Available Through Runner’s World Challenge, Groups and Charities

Less than five months after registration began, the 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon presented by Cigna is sold out, marking one of the fastest sellouts in the event’s history.

More than 25,000 runners have registered for the Jan. 10-13 weekend event, ensuring this will be the largest Disney marathon field ever, surpassing the 23,000 runners who ran in the 2010 Disney Marathon.

Runners from around the country and beyond have been undoubtedly drawn to the event because of several unique features tied to the 20th anniversary, such as new course twists (the route goes through the Walt Disney World Speedway and Champion Stadium), the new Mickey Mouse medal, the post-race party at Downtown Disney and the chance to run with several celebrities who have registered to run.

Runners still have a few opportunities to run in the Disney Marathon through the Runner’s World Challenge or by registering through a group or charity. The Runner’s World Challenge package, for instance, includes several exclusive features such as training advice from Runner’s World editors, race registration and other VIP amenities.  Interested runners can sign up at Runnersworld.com or RunDisney.com, as well as for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, which involves running the half marathon and the marathon on consecutive days.

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna will feature events for the entire family such as Kids’ Races throughout the weekend, including the Mickey Mile, a Family Fun Run 5K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday. The Health and Fitness Expo runs throughout the weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and features the latest in running technology and fashion, as well as renowned running experts like Jeff Galloway, the official training consultant for runDisney.

Disney is threatening Brightspark Productions with legal action due to its movie titled “Braver” based on the title and packaging being too closely related to Disney’s animated film, “Brave”.  According to Brightspark, “Braver” was released initially in 2005 under the name, “A Fairy Tale Christmas” and the Brighton, England based company claims was for “families on a budget”.

“Brave”, voiced by stars such as Billy Connolly and Emma Thompson, was released this past Summer and has quickly gained blockbuster status for Disney.

‘People place great trust in the quality and creativity of Disney and, when  it appears that another company is causing confusion, we will act to protect  ourselves and the consumer,’ Walt Disney Company’s European senior vice-president Peter  Wiley said.

This is not the first time Brightspark has been on Disney’s radar for a similar legal issue.  Disney has also criticized Brightspark about the title change of Brightspark’s DVD formerly titled “Fairy Tales From Around the World” which has been changed to “Tangled Up” and has a similar cover to Disney’s “Tangled”.

Manatee Day at Epcot Helps Educate Guests

Manatee Day at Epcot Helps Educate Guests

In ancient days, sailors may have mistaken manatees for mermaids, but many Epcot guests won’t be making that same mistake after visiting The Seas with Nemo and Friends during International Manatee Day on Sept. 7.

The one day event is designed to help dispel myths about these endangered marine mammals and offer ways to better protect them. Belonging to a group of aquatic, plant-eating mammals called sirenians, manatees can only be found in a few places, including Florida, South America, Africa, and Australia. With only 5,000 manatees located around the state, they are considered an endangered species in Florida.

As a designated rehabilitation site for rescued manatees and sea turtles, the Seas with Nemo and Friends serves as a “halfway house” working with the manatees after they are out of “intensive care” to ensure they resume a normal diet and are ready to return to the wild.

A team of marine mammal experts at The Seas is currently caring for two manatees — Lou and Vail. Both were injured during separate watercraft strikes and will remain in the facility until they are well enough to be returned to their habitats.

Simple actions can help protect them. For example, recycling used fishing line and plastic bottles will help keep waterways where manatees live, clean and healthy.

Trinity Broadcasting Network to Cover Disney's "Night of Joy" Christian Concert Event

Two-thousand-and-twelve marks the 30th year of the celebrated Disney’s Night of Joy contemporary Christian concert series, and this year Trinity Broadcasting Network, America’s most-watched faith channel, will be on hand to cover the entire two-day event, September 7 and 8, at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Each year Disney’s Night of Joy features a stellar lineup of both Dove- and Grammy-Award-winning Christian artists at the Magic Kingdom park, and this year is no exception. Among the performers slated to appear on the Magic Kingdom stages are Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Kutless, Third Day, Brandon Heath, Mercy Me, Royal Tailor, LeCrae, and more.

“Since its beginnings in 1983, Disney’s Night of Joy has gained a well-deserved reputation as a top-tier venue for some of the best artists in contemporary Christian music,” said Matt Crouch, TBN’s Vice President of Administration. “This year TBN will be there to cover all the music and excitement of this event. We’re thrilled to be a part.”

The network’s production crews will be on hand for both action-packed days, recording the best from each concert segment, and catching behind-the-scenes interviews with featured artists, for future broadcast on TBN and its exclusive JCTV youth network.

“Our coverage of the Night of Joyis a great example of the commitment TBN and its family of networks have to provide viewers with the very best in music, ministry, and Christian programming 24 hours a day,” said Matt Crouch. “That commitment reaches back 40 years to TBN’s founding, and is why we continue to be the go-to source around the world for faith and family television.”

Disney Being Sued by Nun for over $1 billion Over “Sister Act” Plot

Disney Being Sued by Nun for over $1 billion Over "Sister Act" Plot

The Walt Disney Company and Touchstone Pictures are being sued by a New York City Nun who is claiming the movie “Sister Act”, its sequel, and the stage musical adaptation all used the “plaintiffs” real life experiences without her permission or authorization. Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely of the Franciscan Handmaids of Mary Convent in Harlem has filed suit in the New York Supreme Court as of last week for over $1 billion. Nun Blakely alleges that her life story was first used in the 1992 film, “Sister Act”.

The suit states that the defendants used, “plaintiff’s actual life experiences without her permission or authorization, thereby irreparably damaging her by depriving her of the windfall of financial gain reaped by defendants.” “The subplots actualized in the said motion picture ‘Sister Act’ and portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg are her real life experiences,” the suit adds.

Last year she filed suit against Disney, and producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures, but she had that suit voluntarily dismissed in January.

Top 10 Pet Peeves at Walt Disney World

Top 10 Pet Peeves at Walt Disney World

Let’s face it, Disney is a crowded place, and according to Chip it is becoming even more crowded. With so many people passing through the gates of the four parks and two water parks, there are bound to be some who annoy others. In order to keep from being “that person”, I want to share with you my Top Ten Pet Peeves that can make your vacation less than magical.

10. Parade Jumpers – Walking in front of someone, who clearly has the front spot behind the parade ropes, to park yourself for the parade. Chances are, that person has been waiting there for at least an hour. Also if you are an adult and there is a kid sitting there use some common sense you make a better door than you do a window.
