Disney Foodie Favorites – Lunch!

1515

So far in our Disney Foodie Series we have covered Snacks and Breakfast!  Today lets do Lunch! Once again lets break this down by parks, resorts and DTD plus by counter service to table service , because lets face it there’s waaaaay too many favorites to narrow it down to just one 😉

First up Magic Kingdom~ My favorite counter service here in MK has never wavered, and that says alot because I am always open to new places and new taste. Columbia Harbour House, we have always liked anything we have got here over the years and always look forward to making a return. My favorite here is the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich, fresh, light and tasty just the way a sandwich should be! My son loves the Chicken Salad here and last time we split our meals and I have to say it was really good! I would recommend anything here fish, chicken or go crazy and try the lighthouse hummus sandwich! Plus try the upstairs seating, quiet and out of the way makes for a great break in the middle of the day!

My Foodie choice for a sit-down lunch in the Magic kingdom is the Liberty Tree Tavern. We always enjoyed the character dinners they had a few years ago and the Pilgrims Feast (Turkey Dinner) with all the trimming they served, but alas the characters are gone but the Pilgrims’ Feast thankfully remains! It was then we tried lunch here, while some ordered the pilgrims feast I went with the New England Pot Roast… Our Tavern Keeper’s Favorite and what a scrumptious dish this is! It was melt in your mouth good, the way good pot roast should be and this folks didn’t disappoint 🙂 Also again if you are looking for something lighter and say even a little different give the Colony Salad a try, it not only has chicken and greens but crasins, apples and pecans a great salad for sure!

Walmart Neighborhood Market Coming to Disney Springs

wal

With the change of Downtown Disney to Disney Springs starting this month we have obtained information that Disney is bringing in another major corporation to the Disney Parks. No not another Starbucks like what is coming to the Magic Kingdom.

Chip and Co has obtained information that the Wal-Mart corporation is coming to the new Downtown Disney. Wal-mart will be opening a Neighborhood Market in the Disney Spring area!

The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets are a smaller Wal-Mart stores that has a little bit of everything. Walmart Neighborhood Market is a chain of grocery stores launched by Walmart in 1998. These stores are designed to be the opposite of vastly larger superstores. These smaller stores are meant to “woo shoppers with easier parking, less crowded aisles and quicker checkout.” Walmart Market stores offer a variety of products including a full line of groceries.

As of right we are unsure what section of Disney Springs this store will be located, but there will be a ton of available real estate when Disney demolishes many of the old stores to make room for the all new shops of Disney Springs.

Stay tuned to Chip and Co for more details as we get them.

What do you think? Do you think having a Wal-Mart at the new Disney Springs is a good idea? I can’t tell you how many times we have need Food or Medicine while at Walt Disney World so I think this will be a lifesaver!

First Look at Star Wars Weekends 2013 Merchandise at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Star Wars weekends

I was delighted to see the logo for Star Wars Weekends 2013 as shared by author Gary Buchanan. He said the artwork gives a nod to the 30th anniversary of “Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.” I vividly recall seeing the film in theaters with my parents in May 1983. I was completely obsessed with Star Wars at the time, so I love this poster as it reminds me of my childhood. Disney Design Group artist Tyler Dumas said they had some different poster concepts, like Mickey Mouse in the Rancor pit, before selecting an iconic scene from the Battle of Endor.

Here is a look at some new items with this year’s logo coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 17, 2013.

Leap Day Events might be returning to Disney World & Disneyland

confidential

Hello Everyone!!! It’s a beautiful day for some gossip, wouldn’t you agree? Well Chippy has been keeping me busy but I always have time for gossip. I don’t have too a lot for you today but I am sure  this little tidbit will get you talking.

I recently heard that Disney World and Disneyland will be bringing back the 24 hour party. You do remember the Leap Day Event don’t you? Of course you do how could a Disney Addict forget that.

Here is the twist, rumor is they will be bringing it back at the end of May for Limited Time Magic! I could never turn down a full 24 hour party at the Happiest Place on Earth. On the other hand I do think if they do it randomly that it will not be as special, don’t you agree?

We all know Disney is good for surprising us and keeping us on our toes. If I should find out more about this I will be sure and let you know as soon as Chippy stops burying me in articles.

How do you feel about this? Should be it a Leap Day only event? or Do you feel any 24 hours at Disney is good no matter what the day?

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now. For my past Gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors? Please email me at [email protected] or on my Facebook Page

Coming Soon: There’s Lots To Do In Line At Disney World

lots

Even as much as my family and I love Walt Disney World, there is one part that we could easily do without- waiting in those long lines for a ride! That’s why I am so excited about the new book, “Lots To Do In Line Walt Disney World” from author Meredith Pierce. It is filled with ways to help turn waiting in line into part of the magic of the whole ride for the whole family.

Meredith Pierce previously wrote, “Lots To Do In Line Disneyland” which helps Disneyland visitors have more fun while they are waiting and now she’s bringing her magical touch to Walt Disney World. Designed to keep both kids and adults entertained, it uses the amazing visual details that the Disney Imagineers have placed in the queues and the people around you to form challenging questions along with both audio and visual treasure hunts to keep everyone entertained while they wait.

“The Imagineers have added some very clever interactive elements to some lines,” Pierce notes. “But those elements occupy only a small sliver of the time most families will spend in line. And if that’s all you focus on, your kids will miss so much of the other magic that’s just waiting to be discovered if you know where to look.”

Disney designers (or Imagineers, as Disney calls them) have gone to a lot of trouble to make its lines interesting by packing the queue areas with delightful visual details. Trouble is, most kids and adults are so hyped for the rides that they miss the eye-catching magic on the way to them.”

This book covers all four parks at Walt Disney World-Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. One of the things that we are most excited about is it covers the new rides in Fantasyland. Another exciting aspect for us is that you are able to earn points for every correct answer you choose and points for the treasures that you see. I wonder which one of my Disney Addicts will want to be on my team?

This book is going to be a perfect read before our upcoming trip this summer. I look forward to learning new ways to have fun in line and sharing the details with you! What do you do to pass the time while you are waiting in line?

Disney Helps Reunite Marine with his Family at Disneyland

012005-TR-80

Many men and women in the United States have to leave their families to fight for their country. They often miss their child’s birth, first steps, and so much more. The Walt Disney Company often tries to help these families in any way they can.

Marine Scott Brown left for Afghanistan in August 2012, leaving behind his wife Jen, daughter Alyssa, and son Liam. The Browns, formerly from Mount Pleasant, Michigan, have now relocated to southern California. As San Diego residents, Disneyland has become one of Alyssa’s favorite places. The family was able to spend time there together on a memorable trip before daddy had to leave. Therefore, Jen just knew that she had to surprise Alyssa and Liam at Disneyland when daddy finally returned home.

Jen was able to arrange a special reunion for her children and their daddy with the help of a little Disney magic! Once at Disneyland, Alyssa met Snow White at the wishing well. Alyssa then told Snow White that her wish was for her daddy to come home. Then, Snow White and Alyssa both covered their eyes and said their wish, “I wish that daddy would come home.” When Alyssa uncovered her eyes, her daddy was standing right in front of her!

Disney is known as “the happiest place on earth” for so many reasons! Disney works to make every guest experience magical and special. They definitely helped make this little girl’s wish come true to have her daddy home again.

Epcot World Showcase Best Kept Secrets – Japan

jp

As we cross over the “Straights of Gibraltar” from the Morocco Pavilion we enter the beautiful and serene country of Japan. Most visitors to The World Showcase bypass Japan because it has no ride, no movie, and nothing wow. In my opinion, they are missing out. The Japanese gardens, the Koi ponds and the majestic architecture make it a very pleasant place to visit. Let’s see what secrets we can find as we visit Japan.

  • The statue to the right as you enter Japan was a gift from the government of Japan when Magic Kingdom opened and was moved to Epcot when it opened.
  •  The Japanese pagoda 5 stories each symbolize something. The Buddhists believe all things in the universe are created and in ascending order they are: earth, water, fire, wind and sky.
  • Pearls. There are pearls in Japan. Not the Black Pearl, unless you are really lucky, but oysters full of pearls. One of my favorite non-traditional souvenirs is pearl you have picked yourself. After buying a ticket from the cashier for about $16.00 you can walk up to the tank and point out which oyster you want. The CM behind the counter will pick it, open it, and behold a pearl. After cleaning it in a bowl of salt they measure it and put it in a plastic bag with the size on it. You have the option of having it mounted in a couple different settings for an extra fee.

There is a rumor that if you pick the ugliest, hairiest one you see, you will get a bigger pearl.

  • Edible art. More correctly, the ancient art of candy sculpture. Miyuki will amaze you with her ability to “bend” the taffy type candy into almost any shape that the audience has requested. She is the only woman in the world to be trained in the art, and it’s a very elite group encompassing 15 artists world wide. Normally the person that requests the type of the sculpture gets to take it home as a souvenir, but be sure to get their early to try and get to the front of the “line”

Her art is so beautiful and almost hard to describe so I thought I would add a video for you to see.  This is an excerpt from her YouTube channel.

Make-a-Wish Foundation Sends Knoxville Girl to Disney World

The Make-a-Wish Foundation helps make dreams come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Children can make a wish from one of four categories: I wish to go, I wish to be, I wish to meet, or I wish to have. In fact, they grant a wish every thirty-eight minutes for a child.

The Make-a-Wish foundation works with a seventy-acre “storybook” resort in Orlando called the Give Kids the World Village. Make-a-Wish families can stay here during their trip so children can receive necessary medical treatments and attention while they are away from home. This resort includes villa accommodations, entertainment, and more.

Cali Owens, a three-year-old girl from Knoxville, Tennessee needs a kidney transplant. She spends ten hours every day undergoing dialysis treatment for her condition. She also receives several medications and shots.  Cali just had her wish of going somewhere granted by the Make-a-Wish foundation and this little princess left for Disney World on Sunday. Cali will get to experience the magic of Disney World despite her physical struggles and be just like every other three year old for the week. Cali and her family are very thankful for this opportunity.

“There’s a lot of discomfort in her life that other kids don’t know. And basic joys of going to school or a regular bath becomes a whole ordeal,” said Brandi Owens, Cali’s mother.

Cali has found a potential kidney donor through her family’s church, but this individual must first undergo an evaluation next week to determine if this will be successful.

Do you know someone that has been helped by the Make-a-Wish foundation?

Are you ready to book your next Disney World vacation? When you book with me, a portion of your trip goes to help the Give Kids the World Village where Make-a-Wish families can stay in Orlando.
