Hot Topic Introduces Fashion Collection Inspired by Disney’s “Maleficent”

Maleficent Dress
Maleficent Dress

Maleficent Dress

Hot Topics joined with Disney Consumer Products to host a press event on Friday, April 11th.  I was given a personal sneak peak of the new and exclusive clothing collection inspired by Disney’s Maleficent.   The Head of Merchandising for Hot Topics shared how “People come to us for our very much expanded Disney collection that’s been happening over the last year”  “We are getting an older customer and have become the destination for adult Disney”.     The design team from Hot Topics worked closely alongside the Disney team to come up with a “wearable” clothing line for the older adult customers.  The Maleficent inspired clothing line was designed to be worn as regular clothing and are available in sizes Small to X-Large in Stores and Small to XX-Large on line.  Hot Topic’s sister store, Torrid will have items available in larger sizes up to 4X.

The collection is small with seven Maleficent inspired pieces and two beautiful Aurora pieces.  After a detailed look at the collection, I chose a favorite – the signature little black dress known as the High-Collar Dress.   This dress can be worn to the office, a party or even as a costume with accessories and a bit of Maleficent makeup.  Priced at $54.50, the High-Collar Dress will be the first piece I order on April 15th.

The Maleficent pieces are dark and edgy, typical of the type of fashion Hot Topics customers usually find in the stores.    All the pieces are black, designed in striking fashion silhouettes, and feature distinctive details, including faux leather accents, lace trim, skull hardware and a Maleficent charm sewn into each piece.  The Corset Hi-lo dress has lace on the sleeves and a decorative zipper down the front of the bodice.  The Wing Hooded Cape is an ideal cover up with just a hint of mystery and can be dressed up or worn with jeans.  Another favorite will be the Button Front Coat Dress that can be worn open or closed for a different look.

  •           Corset Hi-lo dress: $ 52.50
  •           Hi-lo Waistcoat: $44.50
  •           High-Collar Dress: $54.50
  •           Button-Front Coat Dress: $54.50
  •           Corset Top: $46.50
  •           Asymmetrical Crow Feather Top: $32.50
  •           Wing Hooded Cape: $49.50

There are  two Aurora-inspired pieces.  Both are sweet and innocent made of lace and light colors.  The Pink Aurora Lace Top, worn with jeans or dressed up with a skirt or dress slacks,  is a delicate Lace that will compliment any wardrobe.   While the White Dress is just perfect for the upcoming summer parties.

  •          White Aurora Bell-Sleeved Dress: $49.50
  •          Pink Aurora Lace Top: $29.50

There is a Maleficent necklace as a gift with $30 purchase.   Other Maleficent jewelry will also be available to compliment the collection.   The Horns Headband is also available to accent the outfits and is a must accessory to turn any piece into the perfect Halloween costume!   Along with the above special collection, Hot Topics will also  offer new and classic Maleficent apparel including t-shirts, dresses and much more.

The collection will be available on-line for pre-sale beginning April 15th and in stores starting in May.

The “Maleficent” fashion collection is inspired by the feature film, which is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty.” The film, in theaters on May 30, reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora, only to later realize that the child may hold the key to peace in the land. The collection is dark and mysterious like Maleficent herself.

What If I Get Sick On My Disney Cruise?

Doctor Mickey psd495691
Doctor Mickey psd495691

Doctor-Mickey-psd49569

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a not so pleasant experience with you all, so that you will now know what to do if you get sick. I was recently aboard the Disney Magic for what should have been a fun-filled Four Day Bahamian Cruise with stops in Nassau and Castaway Cay. Of course I was looking forward to this trip. When cruising, these are my two favorite stops of all, and this was actually our make-up cruise from the trip that got cancelled in October because the Disney Magic couldn’t make it back in time from dry-dock for our scheduled cruise. Wouldn’t you know that Disney Magic attempt number two would happen and I would get sick on the ship.

Luckily for you, I can help you if this ever happens to you. So pay attention and let me weave you a tale of woo… We arrived to Port Canaveral, FL to take a 4 Night Bahamian Cruise aboard the newly refurbished Disney Magic Ship. This was actually our make up cruise from our cruise in October that was cancelled 2 days prior to sailing. That’s another story for another time though. As we got ready to leave for the Port I started to feel a little bad. No fever, no nausea and really just felt like a nasty head cold. So I went ahead. Once in the room, I started to feel a little worse so I grabbed some Sprite and crackers and went to bed early.

The following morning I got up and felt better but not 100%, so I enjoyed the morning and saw my family off on to their excursions while I stayed back and slept most of the day. By Day 3, I had missed getting off the ship in Nassau and Castaway Cay. With one more day at Sea available to enjoy, plus a follow up visit to Disney World for a long weekend, I knew I had to do something.

Finally I visited the medical center where I met some of the most caring and well-trained individuals I could hope for. I started with a wonderful RN from the UK and then I met Dr. Noah who listened to my medical history, my symptoms and then did a thorough exam and diagnosed me with Pneumonia. He prescribed a stronger anti-biotic then he normally would and he said he did that simply so that I could get better quicker and at least salvage some of my vacation. Which by the way it worked. I was better by the time we disembarked a day and a half later and headed back to Disney World.

One thing to know is that medical services are not free. It cost me $140 just to get seen, plus the x-ray cost, prescription cost, etc. However, they do give you all the correct paperwork to send to your insurance company for reimbursement. Just know that you will be paying out of pocket for their services.

Bottom line, enjoy your cruise as best you can, but don’t do what I did and wait 2 days to visit. If you’re sick go to the medical center and get taken care of! Oh and hey if you want to go on a Disney cruise or any other Cruise line, make sure you contact me to help you plan it!

Disney Legend and Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Advisor Tony Baxter, and designer, sculptor and puppeteer Terri Hardin will be making an appearance at Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn.

Tony Baxter began his time with The Walt Disney Company working on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland and worked his way up to Senior Vice President of Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering. He worked on the design of some of the most famous attractions in the Disney Parks and had much influence in the overall concept of Disneyland Paris. He retired last year after 47 years with the Disney company.

Tony met Terri Hardin while working on Dinseyland Paris.  Terri is a renowned puppeteer, sculpter and designer within Walt Disney Imagineering. She has worked on attractions such ast Captain EO, Muppet Vision 3D, and directly with Tony on Disneyland Paris’ Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Her skill and work ethic were so steadfast, Tony gave her the job of creating Disneyland Paris’ Dragon’s Lair attraction.

Sofia The First: The Floating Palace DVD Review

Sofia The First The Floating Palace DVD Beauty Shot4
Sofia The First The Floating Palace DVD Beauty Shot4

sofia

We had the pleasure of checking out Sofia the First – The Floating Palace DVD here at the Chip and Co household. If you are fans of the TV show you probably saw this episode on Disney Junior a few weeks ago. My little one loved it and was glad to get a DVD copy to play in the car!

The highlight of The Floating Palace is of course the special guest Princess Ariel! Here is some info from the Press Release:

Do YOU believe in mermaids? You will – when you set sail on a magical full-length adventure under the sea with Sofia the First! After Sofia helps a young mermaid named Oona, Sofia’s amulet grantsher the power to transform into a mermaid and visit her new friend’s secret underwater kingdom. But when Cedric (disguised as a sea monster) plots to steal Oona’s enchanted Mermaid Comb, danger surfaces for both worlds. With a little help from special guest, Princess Ariel, Sofia embarks on an adventure to rescue Oona. Overflowing with oceans of song-filled fun – plus three more exciting episodes – Sofia the First: The Floating Palace proves that when families and friends work together, they can weather any storm and save the day!

This DVD has been playing non stop in our car DVD player since we first received it. The addition of the bonus episodes is very nice and unfortunately the friendship bracelets disappeared at my 3 year old’s daycare.

Disney was nice enough to send us some fun activity sheets to share:

Click Communications: BLOGGER BUTTONS &emdash;

Along with this fun video clip

Sofia the First – The Floating Palace is must have for any Sofia the First fan. While not a complete season DVD, which if Disney is listening you need to start releasing, this will be great for fans of the show to play around the house or like us in the car like us!

I give it a A-.

Eating Healthy at Disney World Dining Counter Services

disney 2013 101
disney 2013 101

disney 2013 101

Are you going to Disney World soon and want to eat healthy or watch your calorie counts? Don’t worry. It is very doable and actually fun and delicious, too! Many of the Disney Dining counter service restaurants have healthy options. Almost all of them offer an alternative to the typical burger and fries, or deep-fried chicken. Healthy side items such as fruit, steamed veggies, or salad are available. Also, a lot of places have a “Fixins’ Bar” that offers lettuce, tomato, and other sandwich toppings and condiments. You can always order a burger without a bun and load up on the fixins’ to make your own unique salad.

Before I tell you my favorite healthy options throughout Walt Disney World, I have two tips for keeping healthy while having fun in the parks:

First, make sure you drink plenty of water. Not only will it keep you hydrated in the hot Florida sun, but it will suppress some cravings throughout the day. You can ask for free cups of water at all counter service places in the parks, and resorts. You can also purchase bottles of water or bring your own re-fillable bottle. Britta makes a bottle with a filter which some people report takes out some of the tap-water-taste.

Second, make sure you don’t skimp too much on the calories. I know this sounds crazy, considering you are watching what you eat… but trust me. You expend so much energy by walking all day in the heat that you need to be sure to eat enough.

Here are my Top 5 favorite healthy food choices in the parks and resorts:

1. Be Our Guest  in Magic Kingdom has many healthy choices for entrees. My favorites are the Tuna Nicoise Salad (pictured above): mixed dark greens, sliced tuna steak with cold green beans, seared potatoes, marinated olives, sweet roasted bell peppers, fresh tomatoes, and a hard poached egg, and the Vegetable Quiche which is a crusted egg tart filled with mushrooms, green zucchini, green bell pepper, onion, and chives. It comes with baby lettuces with a Champagne vinaigrette.

2. Also at Magic Kingdom, I recommend two dishes at Columbia Harbor House in Liberty Square. The grilled salmon comes with couscous and steamed fresh broccoli. If you are going for less carbs, you can ask for double broccoli. I also enjoy the Lighthouse Sandwich. It has hummus with tomato & broccoli slaw on toasted multigrain bread. You can have a side of chips, broccoli, or ask for fruit.

3. At Hollywood Studios I always stop in at Starring Rolls Cafe for some sushi. The Spicy Shrimp Roll and Sushi Sampler are my go-to choices. I pair it with a fresh apple or banana. If sushi isn’t your thing, I also enjoy the baked 1/2 Chicken with baked beans and coleslaw at Fairfax Fare. It is enough for an adult and small child to share.

sushi disney

4. Animal Kingdom has a few great healthy meal options. At TamuTamu Refreshments, you can find a Vegetarian Curry with roasted root vegetables and tofu served over Jasmine rice. They also have a chicken curry. Want something less hot and hearty? Try the Roasted Chicken Salad: a blend of mixed greens and sliced tomatoes with diced chicken and dried fruit blended with mild African spices; it is served with pita and apple slices.

5. Epcot has TONS of food choices. Most people head to World Showcase for lunch and dinner and find a plethora of delicious options. However, I really like Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion. They have a wonderful Roasted Beets and Goat Cheese Salad  with a sweet honey sherry dressing. I also love the Oak-grilled Fish of the Day and chose the steamed vegetables as my side.

This list of healthy dining options at Disney World could go on and on. What are some of your favorite lite entrees or snacks in the parks? Do you have other tips for staying on a diet plan while on vacation?

Wizarding World of Harry Potter Universal Studios Orlando 49275509

Wizarding-World-of-Harry-Potter-Universal-Studios-Orlando_49275509

Universal Studios Hollywood is the Number One tourist destination in Los Angeles.  After all, Hollywood is the entertainment mecca!  They have decided to make an investment over 5-years to make the park even better for visitors!  They will be bringing new thrill rides and a whole new meaning to LA’s “Entertainment Capital” title.

The Universal Studios Hollywood transformation started in 2012, with the Transformers:  The Ride-3D, and in 2016 they will be following suit from the Universal Orlando Park and add “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.”    Universal Studios Hollywood has been around for 50 years!  The goal of both Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood is to fully immerse guests in the movie experiences that have become so popular on the big screen.  The extra fabulous aspect to Universal Studios Hollywood, is that it is truly a working studio lot.    As a visitor to Universal Studios Hollywood, you can even enjoy a Studio Tour-which takes you onto the movie and television studio sets-making you feel like you are part of the action!

Following the Transformers:  The Ride-3D came Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Super Silly Fun Land.  Both of these are set to open on April 14th, making 2014 the Year of the Minion at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.    The awesome aspect to the Universal Parks is the fully immersive experience.  You feel as if you are in Gru’s neighborhood, at Miss Hattie’s Home for Girls, and walking alongside the seaside carnival.

In 2015, Universal Studios Hollywood will open two attractions to celebrate their 50th anniversary.  The land of Springfield, surrounding the Simpsons Ride will open in Spring of 2015, as well as the Fast And Furious Supercharged!  This will be the “grand finale” of the Studio Tour.    While in “Springfield”, you can enjoy the Krusty Burger, Luigi’s Pizza, and the Phineas Q. Butterfats 5600 Flavor Ice Cream Parlor.

For any movie and TV fan, the Universal Parks are for YOU!  The fully immersive experiences are like none other.  Imagine plummeting into the world of underground car racing from the Fast and the Furious with hyper-realistic and over the top special effects.   And in 2016, Universal Studios Hollywood will FINALLY welcome the Wizarding World of Harry Potter-the uber popular attraction at Universal Orlando.  You can bet that Hogwarts Castle will be a huge park icon in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
