Hey everyone, I wanted to share a not so pleasant experience with you all, so that you will now know what to do if you get sick. I was recently aboard the Disney Magic for what should have been a fun-filled Four Day Bahamian Cruise with stops in Nassau and Castaway Cay. Of course I was looking forward to this trip. When cruising, these are my two favorite stops of all, and this was actually our make-up cruise from the trip that got cancelled in October because the Disney Magic couldn’t make it back in time from dry-dock for our scheduled cruise. Wouldn’t you know that Disney Magic attempt number two would happen and I would get sick on the ship.

Luckily for you, I can help you if this ever happens to you. So pay attention and let me weave you a tale of woo… We arrived to Port Canaveral, FL to take a 4 Night Bahamian Cruise aboard the newly refurbished Disney Magic Ship. This was actually our make up cruise from our cruise in October that was cancelled 2 days prior to sailing. That’s another story for another time though. As we got ready to leave for the Port I started to feel a little bad. No fever, no nausea and really just felt like a nasty head cold. So I went ahead. Once in the room, I started to feel a little worse so I grabbed some Sprite and crackers and went to bed early.

The following morning I got up and felt better but not 100%, so I enjoyed the morning and saw my family off on to their excursions while I stayed back and slept most of the day. By Day 3, I had missed getting off the ship in Nassau and Castaway Cay. With one more day at Sea available to enjoy, plus a follow up visit to Disney World for a long weekend, I knew I had to do something.

Finally I visited the medical center where I met some of the most caring and well-trained individuals I could hope for. I started with a wonderful RN from the UK and then I met Dr. Noah who listened to my medical history, my symptoms and then did a thorough exam and diagnosed me with Pneumonia. He prescribed a stronger anti-biotic then he normally would and he said he did that simply so that I could get better quicker and at least salvage some of my vacation. Which by the way it worked. I was better by the time we disembarked a day and a half later and headed back to Disney World.

One thing to know is that medical services are not free. It cost me $140 just to get seen, plus the x-ray cost, prescription cost, etc. However, they do give you all the correct paperwork to send to your insurance company for reimbursement. Just know that you will be paying out of pocket for their services.

Bottom line, enjoy your cruise as best you can, but don’t do what I did and wait 2 days to visit. If you’re sick go to the medical center and get taken care of! Oh and hey if you want to go on a Disney cruise or any other Cruise line, make sure you contact me to help you plan it!
