The event is included with park admission and takes place three weekends in January (Jan. 16-17, Jan. 23-24 and Jan. 30-31). Each weekend is hosted by different animal experts, and features new educational shows – from orcas to wildlife rescue – and even more up-close animal experiences, meet-and-greet opportunities and interactive education stations.

Three Wild Days Weekends Themes:

January 16-17: “Wild Weekend with Jack Hanna”

World-renowned animal expert “Jungle Jack” Hanna hosts the first weekend. Guests can meet and learn about amazing animals from Jack, and hear about his unique travels and personal experiences.

Add-on packages:

January 30-31: “Sea Rescue” Weekend

SeaWorld has rescued more than 27,000 animals over 50 years, and these amazing animal stories are featured weekly on the popular Saturday-morning ABC TV series “Sea Rescue.” Hear first-hand accounts of marine animal rescues, rehabilitations and returns by SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Team, heroes and partners featured on the show.

Every Wild Days Weekend Includes:

New “Ocean Discovery” killer whale presentation – Guests can learn more about killer whales, also called orcas, and other species of whales during a special educational show. This interactive, 30-minute presentation teaches guests about the animals’ adaptations, habitats and behavior. (Note: This special presentation is in addition to the popular “One Ocean” shows scheduled throughout the day.)

New “Inspiring Stories” pre-shows – The SeaWorld Animal Training Team has some of the most fascinating jobs in the world. Guests can learn what it takes to care for animals that call SeaWorld home and how caring for them has helped with the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals that need help. “Inspiring Stories” will take place at the beginning of three of the park’s popular shows: Blue Horizons, Pets Ahoy and Clyde & Seamore’s Sea Lion High. Check park maps for times.

Meet the Animals – Throughout the park, even more trainers, educators and animal care staff are stationed to share information and stories about the animals in our care and provide up-close meet and greets, scheduled feedings and fun surprises. Check park maps for times and locations.

Explore Zones – More than 14 fun and interactive education stations can be discovered throughout the park, featuring games and hands-on experiences that teach guests about animals and what they can do to protect the wild world in their own lives. Check event guide for exclusive in-park experiences.

Wild Days takes place every Saturday and Sunday, January 16 through January 31, and is included with park admission. All feature shows take place at Nautilus Theater at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

What’s New and What’s Missing in the 2016 Disney Dining Plan?

New and Missing 2016 DDP
New and Missing 2016 DDP

New and Missing 2016 DDP

Each year Disney makes changes to the Disney Dining Plan, some restaurants get left off while others get added to the list. Let’s take a look at What’s New & What’s Missing from the 2016 Disney World Dining Plan.

Well the answer to “What’s Missing” is nothing that has been included in the past except for Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs.  This is due to it being under Refurbishment.

From the time the new dining plans release to the beginning of the year there are always places (usually at Epcot and Disney Springs) that are not included in the list.  It has to do with third party vendors and signing contracts.  We are happy to report that it looks like all contracts have been renewed and all the participating restaurants from 2015 are back in 2016!

Here is a look at the restaurants originally excluded from the 2016 plan that are back on:

17 Tips for Visiting the Disneyland Resort with Kids

DLR Kids
DLR Kids

DLR Kids

Visiting the Disneyland Resort with your kids is truly a magical experience! Seeing Sleeping Beauty Castle the first time yourself is one thing, but watching your children see it for the first time is amazing. Viewing the parks through your children’s eyes is one of the best ways to experience them. As a parent, we all know things don’t always go as planned and good days can become terrible days real quick. Here are my tips for having the best Disneyland Resort visit with your kids:

Purchase Tickets on Your Mobile Device

If you don’t pre-purchase your park tickets, don’t waste time standing in the ticket line! Get the Disneyland app on your mobile device and purchase your tickets there. It’s easy and fast and all you’ll have to do is show the barcodes on your mobile device at the turnstiles. The cast member there will then print off paper tickets for you to use for the rest of your trip.

Purchase Princess Dresses and Pirate Costumes Before your Trip

These items are expensive inside the parks but you can find more affordable ones at big box stores like Target or Walmart. This can save you money especially if your daughter has a reservation at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Hide the items in your bag and present them to your children once inside the parks so they’re just as exciting as the ones at the shops.

Make Character Dining Reservations

If there is a specific character that your child loves, check to see if they are at any of the character dining options. The restaurants can be pricey, but it’s worth it to give your child more time with the characters without having to wait in long lines.

Mark Your Stroller

Put something distinctive on your stroller so you’ll be able to spot it easily among all of the others. We’ve tied our balloons to our stroller or colorful ribbon. Cast members sometimes have to move the strollers to make room, so if you can’t find it, be sure to ask for help.

Souvenirs

Wait until the last day to buy souvenirs. If your kids see something they like as you’re exploring the parks, take a picture of it. Then let them choose from the photos. This way they won’t have buyer’s remorse. Also, pressed pennies are great souvenirs and just cost $0.51! The machines can be found throughout both parks.

Entertainment in Line

You’ll be spending a lot of time waiting in line while at the Disneyland Resort. Bring small games, books, or other toys that will keep your kids busy while in line. Snacks are good too!

Visiting with a Baby

One of the best ways to get around the parks with a baby is to use a carrier. It takes up less space and it’s easier to move around the parks than with a stroller. Also, if you’d like a quiet, comfortable place to nurse, be sure to check out the Baby Care Center. They also have tiny potties for little kids, spacious changing tables, an area for pumping, high chairs for feeding your baby, and even a store to buy baby supplies.

Rider Switch

If you have a child that doesn’t meet the height requirement for a ride, take advantage of the rider switch pass. One parent rides the attraction then the other parent can go through the fastpass line. Just ask the cast member at the entrance of the ride for a pass when the first parent gets in line.

Disneyland App

Download the Disneyland App to your smart phone. It allows you to check attraction wait times, make dining reservations, and see what/where characters are out in the parks.

Height Requirements

Know your child’s height before you get to the resort. This will help you avoid a potential meltdown if your child isn’t tall enough for a certain ride. You can find the height requirements for each ride on the Disneyland website.

PhotoPass

PhotoPass photographers will take your picture with your camera as well as theirs. Just have your camera ready to go when it’s your turn. That being said, be sure to get a PhotoPass card as well. They’re free and it’s a great way to have back-ups in case something happens to your camera. It also gives you the option to purchase photos taken by the Disney photographers if you end up liking those better than the ones on your camera.

Extra Magic Hours

A great benefit of staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels is getting to enter one of the parks an hour before regular park opening on each day of your stay. If you don’t stay at a resort hotel but have a 3-day or more ticket, you’ll be able to take advantage of the extra magic hours at Disneyland. Check out the Disneyland website for the extra magic hours schedule.

Musical Chairs

Some little known entertainment at Disneyland happens at Coke Corner on Main Street. Every day around 2:30 p.m. Alice and the Mad Hatter play musical chairs with kids. We just discovered this gem on our last trip in August. It’s so fun and a great way for your kids to get some energy out.

Balloons

We don’t always get balloons on our Disneyland trips, but this last trip we bought 2 of the Mickey Mouse balloons-the ones that are a balloon within a balloon. I had heard that if your balloon pops, a cast member will give you a new one for free. It’s true! One of the outside balloons had popped, so we just took it off and let my son have the Mickey balloon. (He was totally fine with it). The next day as we entered the park, a cast member saw it and took us to get a new one. Just one way Disney keeps the magic in your vacation! They will also replace spilled hot chocolate, dropped ice cream, and even broken souvenirs.

Pinocchio’s Workshop

Want a night out with your partner? If you’re staying at one of the resort hotels, take advantage of Pinocchio’s Workshop. Each night Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa hosts children ages 5–12 to an evening of arts and crafts, computer games, Disney films, dinner, and snacks with a licensed supervisor. The cost is $15 per child with a 2-hour minimum stay. Your child can also visit if you have a reservation at Napa Rose or Mandara Spa.

Item Delivery

If you’re staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel, you can have your purchased items delivered to your room. That way you won’t have to carry around extra bags all day. You can also check your bags of items in at the news stands at the park entrances. Just don’t forget to pick them up at the end of the day!

Dining

Be sure to make reservations for the more popular table service restaurants you want to eat at. These include: Blue Bayou, Plaza Inn and Carnation Café at Disneyland, Ariel’s Grotto, Carthay Circle Restaurant and Wine Country Trattoria at California Adventure, Napa Rose and Storyteller’s Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Goofy’s Kitchen and Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.

Shanghai Disney Resort gets an opening date!

disney shan
disney shan

disney_shan

The big announcement was made and in 6 short months Shanghai Disney Resort will be celebrating its grand opening! June 16, 2016 is the day Disney fans can first walk through the gates!

Robert A Iger who is the chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney World Company said;

“When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. The resort reflects Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we’ve ever created. We’re looking forward to showing it to the world and sharing it with the people of China for generations to come.”

The Shanghai Disney Resort will include two resorts, a dining and entertainment district, a recreation area, exciting retail and a new Disney theme park.  This theme park will include six themed lands and an attraction which is designed specifically for the people of China!

This is exciting news! How do you feel about this new park opening?

Disney will not be using Magic Bands at upcoming theme park

Disney’s Magic Band is our key to the world, Walt Disney World that is… We use it to access our rooms, gain entry to the theme parks, to buy merchandise and much more.  Over the past few years they have worked out the bugs so you would think with Disney opening a new park in China the Magic Bands would show up at the Shanghai Disney Resort however that is not the case.

Shanghai Disney Resort guests will be using their smart phones for everything we use our Magic Bands for.

The magic bands were introduced to us in 2013 but the thought of magic bands had started back around 2007 when smart phones had just started making their premiere. Douglas Quinby, who is the vice president of a research company in Atlanta called Phocuswright said;

“When Disney was first making their investment in Orlando, the mobile revolution was still at a very early stage. Nobody knew how all these technologies were going to shake out.”

Years of development and a billion dollars spent by Disney to produce the Magic Bands have paid off, they have helped bring more guests through the gates of the theme parks everyday, increased sales of merchandise and, thanks to different decorative bands, for holidays, Star Wars and other characters have brought in more money selling each band for $30.00.  Over 13 million guests have used the magic band for their Walt Disney World vacation.

Hopefully the use of smart phones in Shanghai will do the same, in an interview on Bloomberg TV on December 21st Disney chairman and chef executive officers Bob Iger said;

“What you’ll see in Shanghai is a park that from a technological perspective is more advanced than anything we’ve ever built. The consumer will be able to buy their tickets, use their mobile devices in far more advanced, compelling ways than any other place from a theme park perspective than we are today.”

Here in Orlando we love our magic bands, this is proven by all the merchandise we buy that coincides with the bands, such as magic slidersDisney will not be using Magic Bands at upcoming theme park and magicbanditsDisney will not be using Magic Bands at upcoming theme park. This makes me wonder how the people of Shanghai will feel about using their smart phones for all Disney park related operations.

What do you think about Shanghai using smart phones in place of magic bands? Let me know in the comment box below.

Marvel's most wanted

Marvel’s Most Wanted spinoff is now officially a go.  ABC president, Paul Lee confirmed the network has gone ahead and asked for a pilot order for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L. D. spinoff.  The show would be based on characters Barbara “Bobby” Morse (Mockingbird), played by Andrianne Palicki and Lance Hunter played by Nick Blood.    Although there was talk about the project over the summer, ABC had not made the official announcement.

Paul Lee was quoted as saying “It’s a really good script.” and we at Chipandco.com, look forward to the first episode with anticipation and excitement. Working on Marvel’s Most Wanted are executive producers, Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski.  There is little information about the story line, but much speculation has hit the social media sites withe rumors and plot ideas being tossed left and right.

Adding to ABC’s Marvel line up which includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, Marvel’s Most Wanted is, we hope, just the beginning of many spin offs to come.    Your favorite Entertainment Writer at chipandco.com is excited at the growing number of Marvel shows.  Are you ready for Most Wanted?   Any other spin offs you would like to see?
