The most social television network will celebrate its transition from ABC Family to Freeform in a new and immersive way with a daylong virtual event and exciting partnerships across the breadth of the social space. Key launch partnerships will include a Social DNA Project with Twitter; a live stream of events via Periscope; a Vine booth; a BuzzFeed Facebook Live chat and a custom “Pretty Little Liars” Facebook icon; Instagram content and talent takeovers; and a “Pretty Little Liars” Snapchat filter.

The Freeform Social DNA Project with Twitter will take place on January 12 starting at 11:00 a.m. EST. Throughout the day, fans who tweet @FreeformTV using the hashtag #FreeformLaunch will receive a reply tweet that includes a unique piece of 3D digital art based on a sentiment analysis of their Twitter feed. Each piece of art is as similar and unique as a fingerprint or snowflake. Fans will then have the opportunity to enter an instant win sweepstakes* to receive one of 5000 prizes – a one-of-a-kind piece of 3D printed wearable art representing their Twitter personality, as shown below.
Fans will be able to participate in the virtual celebration by going to FreeformLaunch.com, or any of the social outlets listed above. On those platforms they will be able to interact with musical artists including deejays Lela B, Bianca Oblivion and Dan Wilcox; drummers P.O.P. Unplugged; visual artists Dancakes (Dan Drake) the pancake artist; muralist Carlos Vera; and talent including Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Ian Harding, Shay Mitchell, Janel Parrish, Sasha Pieterse and Keegan Allen from “Pretty Little Liars; and Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Harry Shum Jr., Isaiah Mustafa, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Alberto Rosende, and Maxim Roy from “Shadowhunters” who will be creating moments, art and activities of what it means to be Freeform.

All this activity will lead to the on-air debut of the new network brand spot (https://youtu.be/-f5aP4h3zrk). For the new Freeform branding spot, a diverse mix of designers, animators and illustrators participated in a unique collaboration to create the ultimate artistic expression of Freeform programming. A network sizzle, created internally and provided to each artist (Ruffmercy; Gustavo Torres; Saiman Chow, Dusty Studio and Audrey Aquino) devoid of graphics and with very few creative parameters. The artists were invited to bring their own unique style to the project, to express how the content made them think and feel, and to be inspired by the passionate fandom around Freeform shows through typography, illustration, and animation. The sizzles were then collected and edited into one “mashup” highlighting the best of each artist’s work – set to the music of rising star Alessia Cara’s upcoming single “Wild Things” from her Def Jam debut album Know-It-All.

The casts of “Pretty Little Liars” and the much anticipated “Shadowhunters” will live Tweet during their premieres. Twitter will give the casts special tools including the Twitter Mirror, Twitter Challenger and Video Q&A to enhance the experience. The sixth season premiere of “Pretty Little Liars” will air at 8:00 p.m. EST followed by the series premiere of “Shadowhunters” at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Traditionally, Becomers are in high school, college and the decade that follows and are navigating the wonderful, fun, exciting and scary time when you experience many of life’s firsts – from first kiss to first kid.

The audience’s identity and experience are fluid as they explore endless possibilities and their passions take shape. Freeform is inspired by the interconnection between content and audience; media and technology; interactive and linear; life stage and life style, and the way Becomers interact with them all.

Stay tuned for more Freeform!

‘La Nouba’ by Cirque du Soleil Introduces New Acts at Disney Springs

Cirque du Soleil

“La Nouba”, which celebrated it’s 15th anniversary in 2013 of being at Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney), is still exciting guests of all ages. They are constantly making minor changes to keep the show fresh for guests and have recently added two new acts to the opening that are sure to delight and awe those watching: a breakdancing b-boy trio and a jaw-dropping aerial bamboo act.

The b-boys bring a refreshing urban flair to the show. The trio consists of well-known solo artists  Bebo, Incredible Josh, and Flying Buddha coming together for the first time ever. Their movements flow from free-style solos to choreographed moves that are performed in unison. Director Daniel Ross said, “‘La Nouba’ is a fairy tale but it starts with the idea of the big city. We wanted something powerful and urban, but when you watch them you think, ‘How is this possible?’ That’s what b-boys share with the circus.”

Before coming together Bebo, Incredible Josh, and Flying Buddha were gaining momentum in the dance world with appearances on “America’s Best Dance Crew”, “So You Think You Can Dance”, the “Step Up” movies, and international competitions.  Their personal stories are encouraging, as they each discovered dance as an escape from their everyday lives and now find themselves on the stage at Disney Springs.

The second new act is a romantic aerial bamboo act, an almost lost Chinese circus art, that is performed by Alexander and Ekaterina Abramov. Ekaterina describes the show as a “ love story that we project to the audience. We are describing the story with the tricks we do in the air.”

The couple from Moscow, who has been married since 2010, were taught the rare art of aerial bamboo from retiring Russian artists that didn’t want to see the art lost. They have been working for years in circuses around Russia. They have been in talks with Cirque du Soliel at Disney for years, while waiting for the right act to join.

The grace, balance, and flow that Alexander and Ekaterina bring to their act make them a great counterpart of the strength, rhythm, and confidence of the b-boys. This is one show you won’t want to miss.

This is one of many changes that Disney Springs has coming. If you are interested in planning a 2016 trip to Walt Disney World contact me at [email protected] or find me on facebook to take advantage of FREE planning assistance.

I was feeling a little somber with the very grey and chilly winter weather, so I decided I needed to hunt for a little color. Color is great, but I need that color to be on something, and nothing cheers me up like Disney so color+Disney it was. Britto Disney figurines are the perfect combination of bright colors with joyful patterns. Romero Britto interprets Disneys most beloved characters in pint size works of art popping with bursts of color and exquisite detail.

That left another choice though, which one would be my shining rainbow to keep me bright and cheery till Spring, or my next Disney trip? Today the Rivers of America and the Disneyland Railroad at Disneyland have temporarily closed while construction begins on the new Star Wars Land. When these attractions reopen, the north bank of the Rivers of America will have a beautiful new waterfront. This new riverbank will also feature an elevated trestle for the Disneyland Railroad to travel over. Take a look at this amazing artist’s rendering:

It is being reported that a fire broke out at Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel on Sunday which had local firefighters racing to the scene. The Paradise Pier Hotel’s pizza oven exhaust vent caught on fire causing a large amount of smoke according to the Sgt of the Anaheim Police Department.

Some of the resort’s guests were escorted out of the resort and the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes thanks to the Garden Grove and Anaheim Fire and Rescue teams. The smoke was visible for a few blocks.

The fire broke out about noon and the freeway to Disneyland Drive and other nearby streets were blocked off leaving park traffic affected for about 45 minutes.

The fire doesn’t seem to have affected any of the parks operations and no guests were in immediate danger.

David Bowie passed away yesterday after battling cancer for the last 8 months, he was 69.

David Bowie was an amazing singer and performer, let’s dance was the theme song of my high school career, I used to get ready to go out and sing along with David in the mirror, his voice just made me happy and pumped to handle whatever was thrown at me that day. He will be sorely missed!

Not only was Bowie a music icon he also stared in movies and TV shows and became part of Walt Disney World’s family when he starred as Nikola Tesla in Touchstone Pictures’ “The Prestige” in 2006. One of his more famous roles that I remember growing up was when he worked with Jim Henson to star as Jareth the Goblin King in the Labyrinth.

Also his music was also used many films, including the recent Marvel/Disney success “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Our deepest condolences go out to his family and fans world-wide.

10 Things To Pack for your Disney Resort Stay

feel at home
feel at home

feel at home

As we plan and get excited for our Disney vacations we focus so much on the park days and wardrobe and so often forget that though we don’t spend a ton of time in our resort room…we are there for hours at a time. Whether it be to sleep, freshen up or just decompress before getting to our next Fast Pass +, there are some really easy items we can pack from home that can save you time, money and make your stay really comfortable. The Disney Resorts have many wonderful items available for purchase at their resort stores but the fact of the matter is that the prices exceed what we would pay for certain items at home. Here are 10 items to bring from home to make your stay a happy and comfy one!

Pop up laundry basket

Money well spent at any local dollar store. I got mine for my last trip at another discount store for around $5 and it packed neatly into my luggage and expanded once we arrived. This allowed me to keep our soiled laundry out-of-the-way and together and made the room feel much less cluttered. We tucked it underneath the table in our room by the window and it was a great hiding place!

Snacks

This one seems obvious but it’s so easy to forget. Rather than having to purchase or use a snack credit (if you’re on one of the Dining Plans) it’s going to save you a lot of money and waiting in lines to have some granola bars, crackers and simple beverages in your room. If you are flying you can have these items shipped or delivered right to your room. If you’re driving you can pack as much as you like! A case of bottled water and juice boxes could be just the trick to keep your family hydrated and happy! Snacks are also a great way to keep your little ones busy no long waits throughout the day.

Disinfecting wipes

I try my best not to think about other people who have been in the room I stay in at any hotel. I don’t consider myself “germaphobic” by any stretch but on my most recent visit I was traveling as a wife and mom…not just myself with friends! It was a bit of a game changer for me. I packed a small packet of Lysol wipes to clean off surfaces my little one may touch, eat off of or put her mouth on. I wiped down door knobs, phones and surfaces and it really brought me peace of mind. If the last family to stay had a toddler with a cold or runny nose than mine wasn’t going to be privy to that as well! The wonderful Mousekeeping staff does so well to keep the rooms tidy- but they don’t know all the details of every surface!

Pain reliever/fever reducer

Even the most magical place on earth isn’t immune to injury and illness. If you have a headache, cough or your child is running a fever it would be much easier for you to reach into your suitcase and pull out the medicine you need to make yourself or loved one well again. No one wants to get sick on vacation but it does happen. Go prepared! Bring bandages and moleskin for your aching feet and aloe for your sunburns! I remember waking up with a cough on my honeymoon cruise and it plagued me. I don’t even want to say how much I spent on cough medicine on board. Let’s just say I never traveled again without a small armory of medicines.

Night Light

Think these are just for kids? Try getting up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night in a foreign bedroom and locating your bureau with your toe! Grab one from home or buy one for cheap at a local pharmacy or department store and bring it along. Your feet with thank you! So will your roommates who won’t be awakened by your thudding!

For kids- Favorite sleep accessories and bedding

This one definitely can’t be purchased! If you have a child young enough for a Pack-n-play they may go down for the night easier if the bedding is from home and familiar. Disney provides sheets, but I like to bring mine from home. They smell like our detergent, they are familiar appearance and texture and I think they reassured my little one that she can sleep cozy away from home. Older kids may have a stuffed animal or favorite pillow case which I would encourage you to bring along. A pillow case from home could mean the difference in a good night’s sleep for a fussy sleeper and everyone being kept awake. If your kids sleep with a noise machine at home, consider bringing it. There are worse sounds to fall asleep to than the crashing ocean, right? (haha)

Power Strip/surge protector

Not totally necessary but I am the child of two photographers. My camera, digital camcorder and cell phone will literally never die in Disney because I am so diligent in charging and reloading batteries at night! I like to bring a power strip so we could plug-in our phones, cameras, my daughter’s noise machine and all our memory recording devices!

Dish Soap and a sponge

Pick up a small dish soap bottle and a sponge in a baggie and pack it in our bag! This will come in handy many times that you wouldn’t even plan for. Especially when traveling with kids this is a must because of all the sippy cups and pacifiers and other items they come with. As an adult they are handy to have for those Disney refillable resort mugs too!

Books/magazines/games

There are times when you want to unwind and maybe don’t want the tv on. Some quiet down time away from the bustle of the parks is a must do every trip so why not entertain yourself? Card games, books (with book light in case it’s at night and other are sleeping), magazines, anything to keep your family and friends feeling relaxed and in the vacation mind-set. These may also come in handy for long waits in lines, restaurants and buses for kids! Pack a deck of flashcards or a travel sized game like mini Connect Four.

Ear Plugs/sleep masks

Not everyone is as picky a sleeper as I am. But I have trouble getting to sleep in a place that isn’t home, usually. You or your kids may too! Ear plugs are great for someone traveling with people who snore, have kids or end up next door to a louder group. Maybe you want to sleep in and your wife wants to wake with the sun, a sleep mask allows you to stay asleep and your wife to enjoy the natural light with open curtains.

The bottom line is that as much fun a Walt Disney World vacation can be, we all also want to be comfortable and feel at home. These few things can make your trip flow easier and feel more relaxing. What do you always bring from home to your Disney resort?

If you are looking to retreat to you favorite hoe away from home let’s get your trip quoted! Contact me today via email or find me on Facebook! I’d be honored to help you plan your vacation.

Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo Animals Find New Home

BTR Animals

January 10th was the last day guests were able to visit the animals at Big Thunder Ranch in Disneyland. I mentioned a few weeks ago that the animals at the ranch were being adopted by a Southern California family. Their new forever home is on a farm in Murrieta, California.

The owner, Jenelle, already cares for four former Disneyland goats on her farm: Jane, Lilo, Medusa and Penny. Jenelle loves the goats and is looking forward to welcoming them (and the sheep and donkeys) to her farm.

Check out the video below to see where these wonderful animals are moving to!

A First Timer’s Guide To Walt Disney World – Packing For Disney

061715 secret suitcase sweepstakes iris
061715 secret suitcase sweepstakes iris

Dis

Ok – so you’ve chosen which Walt Disney World Resort to stay at, you’ve made your Advanced Dining Reservations, and you’ve made your trip itinerary – so now all that’s left to do before you head off on your Walt Disney World vacation is PACK! A daunting task, for sure – because who likes to pack? It’s a pain, and there’s always stuff you can’t pack until the VERY last-minute, and then there’s the fear of forgetting something…eek!

While I can’t make sure you pack your contact lenses, I CAN help you with some important items/tips on what to bring along to Walt Disney World:

Don’t Overdress: Disney is NOT a fancy place. You can get away with shorts and t-shirts pretty much anywhere you go, and while it may seem tempting to pack cute dresses and strappy sandals for dinners or evenings out, trust me when I say it REALLY isn’t necessary. There are a few restaurants that require a fancier dress code, but for the most part, I stick with the “dress for comfort!” motto, and you should do the same!

Keep Your Feet Happy: Personally I only wear sneakers while touring the Parks – and not brand new ones either – comfortable, broken in (but not old and falling apart) sneakers, with nice breathable socks – and I HIGHLY recommend you do the same. Some people swear by crocs, but I haven’t had any luck with them myself, and as for flip-flops or other sandals – don’t even try it. Your feet will hate you. As much as it sucks putting on socks AND sneakers on a 90 degree day, it’s worth it – you will be doing a LOT of walking and you want your feet to be comfortable, and for me and my family – that means packing my trusty sneakers

Pack For The (Unpredictable) Florida Weather: One minute it’s raining, the next minute it’s sunny, then muggy, then raining, then sun again…needless to say, you’ll want to be prepared for ALL the possibilities when it comes to weather at Walt Disney World. Pack ponchos for everyone in your party (cheap disposable ones can be found at dollar stores, and nicer ones can be purchased at stores like Target/Wal-Mart), Ziploc baggies in assorted sizes (to protect your wallet/cell phone/camera etc when that rain hits), sunscreen – and LOTS of it, and a hat too (even if you put sunscreen on your head – that relentless Florida sun can still burn your scalp!)

Save Money On Snacks/Drinks: Bring your own refillable water bottles from home – because not only is it super important to stay hydrated in such a hot place where you’re doing a ton of walking, but also because no one wants to pay $3 for a bottle of water. Pack some snacks for the Parks and the plane rides/layovers too – granola bars, trail mix, nuts, fruit snacks – all of these are small and portable and will save you a ton of money – as the same thing at a Disney Park will cost 2-3 times as much!

Organize Your Suitcase: Resist the urge to just throw it all into the bag and jam it shut – because no one wants to wear wrinkly clothes all week, right? Fold your clothes. Organize the piles – shirts, shorts, pants, etc. This may seem like common sense (aka something you don’t need to do) – but trust me, it can really save you time when you’re getting ready for the Parks in the morning. For the kids, you can pack entire outfits in big Ziploc baggies: pants/top/hair accessories/socks/underwear – put it all together to avoid mis-matching and save time getting everyone out the door in time for the Extra Magic Hour!

Still not sure what should go in your suitcase? Then check out the items on my Disney Survival Kit for more “Must Pack” items
