Top Ten Places at Disney World to Get Your Chocolate Fix

top 10 chocolate
top 10 chocolate

top 10 chocolate

Mmm Chocolate! I love just about anything chocolate and when it comes to dessert I’m normally looking for something with chocolate in, on, or around it. Is this the case for you as well? Do you love chocolate? Well, have no fear, Disney World has something for everyone when it comes to food and this is especially true for those that are lovers of chocolate. If you’re looking for somewhere to get your chocolate fix then look no further than these ten places spread throughout the four main parks and Disney Springs.

  • Starring Rolls Café – The spot for cupcakes in Hollywood Studios, Starring Rolls is also a great place to stop in for some chocolate – in cupcake form, of course! Both the Butterfinger Cupcake and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake are great choices for chocolate lovers. If you’re not a cupcakes person *gasp* there are other chocolate options here are well that include chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and chocolate croissants.
  • Les Halles Boulangeries-Patisserie – This bakery in the France Pavilion at Epcot offers so many choices for all palates that it’s hard to decide what you want to eat as you walk through the line and past all of the delicious treats. This problem holds true for chocolate lovers, too, but it’s a good problem! As I write this there are eight different chocolate treats available here including a variety of mousses, as well as eclairs, croissants, breads, and cookies.
  • Goofy’s Candy Co. – This candy shop in the Marketplace section of Disney Springs offers something for everyone. Chocolate treats are available in a variety of pre-packed options, a case full of ready to eat fresh treats like cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and chocolate covered sweets, and a create-our-own station. That’s right! You can have a cast member customize a treat for you with your choice of chocolate and toppings!
  • L’Artisan des Glaces – If you’re looking for chocolate ice cream treat, this is the place for you. You can find this cute little ice cream shop in the back of the France Pavilion, right next door to the Les Halles. There are three different ice cream flavors that involve chocolate, but that’s not all! There are also special ice cream treats like the Chocolate Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich and the Croque Glace which is a pressed brioche and ice cream sandwich.
  • Prairie Outpost & Supply – This little shop in Frontierland that many guests pass right by is full of treats! There are pre-packaged treats, jelly beans, and a display case full of deliciousness. The case is usually filled with fudge, many varieties of which are chocolate as well as chocolate covered treats and cookies. Stop on by for a chocolate treat to help you complete your journey through the West.
  • Main Street Confectionery – Stop by the Confectionery on your out of Magic Kingdom for a chocolate treat to take back to your resort with you for a snack later – if it can make it that far! Here you can find all kinds of chocolate goodies – candy apples, cupcakes, cookies, fudge, and all manner of chocolate covered things (cake pops, crispy treats, marshmallows, pretzels, and fruit)!
  • Tamu Tamu Refreshments – If you’re hit with a need for chocolate while you’re visiting Animal Kingdom, have no fear! Head over to Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Africa. Here you can choose from delicious treats like a Double Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich, a Chocolate Waffle, a Mickey Sundae, and Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans! This is a great place to stop before or after your safari.
  • Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop – This is a chocolate lover’s paradise – after all Ghirardelli is all about chocolate. One side of this shop is all about the ice cream and the other is all about the chocolate. I can never walk out without buying a bag or two of chocolate, but the ice cream treats are also amazing and every single one involves chocolate. The best part is that as you enter the store you’ll be given a free piece of chocolate. What could be better than that?!
  • Karamell Kuche – This little shop in the Germany Pavilion is known for its caramel, but that’s not all they serve. The massive display case is full of chocolate treats, many of which do involve caramel which makes them even better! Indulge in chocolate covered caramel, chocolate covered fruit, Caramel S’mores bars and so much more!
  • The Ganachery – The name of this shop says it all! Recently open in Disney Springs this place is all about the chocolate. They make and serve a variety of chocolate treats including chocolate lollipops, chocolate bars, and you guessed it – ganaches.

Where is your favorite place at Disney World to pick up a chocolate treat? Let us know in the comments!

Which Network Will Star Wars: The Force Awakens Call Home?

The newest film in the Star Wars saga released in December 2015 has broken records world-wide.  Star Wars: The Force Awakens is nearing the $900 million mark in domestic sales.  This is leading Disney / ABC Home Entertainment and Television Distribution Department to investigate the best method and most profitable markets to sell the TV viewing rights to.

Rumors have the asking price at $30 million each for Force Awakens as well as the next two titles Episode VIII (2018) and Episode IX (2019).

The original six titles, from Star Wars (1977) are also on the table but no concrete values have been placed yet.   Sources share that Disney has been in talks with Turner, FX Networks, Viacom, NBC Universal and AMC Networks.

With the availability of home video and pay TV, the need for companies to pay such a high premium for a film is no longer as popular – except of course for Star Wars.   The Force Awakens has created such a following that TV execs are going to fight hard for the opportunity to have the rights.

Although Starz has the traditional pay TV rights to “Force Awakens” starting at the end of this year through its prior movie output deal with Disney. The title will probably not come to free TV until 2018 or later.

Disney’s deal with Netflix could cause some concerns as it includes all theatrical releases starting in 2016 and was valued at $300 million a year.  Time will tell which channel we end up watching our favorite Star Wars films.  True fans however will have the DVD / Bluray much sooner.

Recently, I told you about the return of “Tangled” to Fantasy Faire at Disneyland park. Today, it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that I share some more exciting news! The illustrious storytelling troupe of the Royal Theatre will once again weave the romantic, comedic tale of “Beauty and the Beast” at the Royal Theatre.

Later this spring, Messieurs Smythe and Jones will take you on an adventure in the great wide somewhere for a whimsical retelling of how Belle and the Beast met and fell in love – all with a happily ever after at the end, of course!

With “Tangled” and now “Beauty and the Beast” returning to the Royal Theatre, it’s time for Mr. Jones to hang up his snowman outfit. The troupe’s “Frozen” fun retelling of Anna and Elsa’s story has been delighting audiences for more than a year and will soon melt away. There’s still time for a few more encores of “Let It Go” before the show is let go.

As soon as dates for this transition are available, I’ll share that information! In the meantime, the players will be dusting off their Beast and Gaston impressions.

Are you excited for the return of “Beauty and the Beast” to the Royal Theatre at Disneyland?

No night time fireworks at Shanghai Disneyland?

Shanghai Disneyland concept art 11
Shanghai Disneyland concept art 11

Shanghai-Disneyland-concept-art-11

There may be less magic at the Magic Kingdom in Shanghai Disneyland! According to a new regional fire service rule that took place at the beginning of the year there are no firework shows allowed without exception on “heavily polluted days”. China is known for some serious smog problems.  Any day with an air quality index over 200 (on China’s 500 point scale) is considered “heavily polluted days”. In 2015 Shanghai had 8 of those days.

The government previously stated they will offer unusual extra attention and effort to support Shanghai Disneyland so they may show some mercy.  It was also stated by Shanghai’s party controls Jeifang daily group that Disneyland is located outside Shanghai’s outer ring and isn’t restricted by the firework ban on normal days, but they wouldn’t explain what that meant.

The chairman, Fan Xiping explained that Shanghai Disneyland will use advance and environmental friendly firework; however he was unreachable on Tuesday to confirm this. There was also no response from the fire department.

Shanghai’s government is trying to decrease the average daily density of PM 2.5 particles to 42 micrograms per cubic meters by 2020, it was 53 micrograms per cubic meter last year. PM 2.5 particles are a major contributor to air pollution.  In major cities like Shanghai there is a struggle with smog, however fighting the smog interferes with economic activity.

Via email a Disney spokeswoman said:

“We have a long-standing record and commitment to fireworks shows and technologies that were uniquely entertaining and environmentally friendly.”

She also said they will follow all rules set by the government.

Could this be the only Disney park without a firework show at night! How do you feel about this? Comment below!

Casey Affleck Talks About His Role in The Finest Hours

Finest

The Finest Hours, the newest Walt Disney Film out in theaters this Friday, tells the true story of an incredible rescue by a small team of Coast Guard who against all odds found and rescued 32 of the 33 men stranded on board what was left of the SS Pendleton.  The story also shows the courage of the survivors on board the tanker.  Casey Affleck who stars as First Assistant Engineer Ray Sybert gives an incredible performance as a quiet and soft spoken man who is thrown into the position of leadership when the T-2 he is on is ripped in half by the storm of the century.  Taking charge, he and his 32 remaining crew members do the impossible to stay afloat until help arrives.

During a press event, I had the opportunity to be a part of a round table session with Mr. Affleck.  Discussing the character he plays, Casey mentioned both his character and Chris Pine’s (Bernie Webber) were although different in some ways, similar in that they were both thrust into a role of heroism or leadership that was not the norm for them, and which required a lot of heart.   He continued sharing how one of the things he liked about the movie was that it was about people helping each other in one of the worst times possible, which led to “an uplifting story.”   “It’s also sort of old fashioned and has kind of simpler ideas about, you know, valor and virtue and stuff.”  Asked about how Casey decided to portray Sybert, he responded saying as an actor, “you decide on a character and certain elements and the rest of it you’re sort of making it up as you go” and there is always the script that is used as a guideline.  Casey mentioned his character had an almost librarian on an oil tanker personality, which once he said it, was in fact, the perfect description of Sybert.

Casey was asked about any research he did of the actual event before filming, to which he responded that most of the time, the crew spends years on research and at the end of the process the actors are handed a packet with all the necessary information.  However, he did personally visit the museums, and ships to try to get the feel of being below deck.

One question we were all eager to ask was about the filming conditions.  Casey brought up the weather in Boston as cold and wet but since the film involved the constant water being thrown at the cast, they eventually got used to being cold.    Casey continued talking about the water scenes and when asked if they were given wet suits to help, he replied that some used the wet suits, and some (like himself) did not.

Casey also talked about how inspirational the film was and that although the jobs are hard, the people who perform them, love doing so.  He did not think of them as victims and went on to say that like law enforcement, the Coast Guard is one of those where “you are asked to put your own life on the line for someone else’s and that takes a special kind of person.”

In discussing the most challenging part of the his character, Affleck, responded it would have to be trying to figure out the amount of fear to show and how a person would have actually responded to the situation.  Casey said his best guide was going on line and looking up videos of persons under the most stressful situations.

Casey Affleck’s performance in The Finest Hours, gave his character, the exact amount of strength and quiet leadership needed to successfully convey to the audience. the fear, tension and at times dispair that must have been felt by Sybert.  The film is a must see for all family members.  An edge of your seat/feel good/happy ending that will warm your heart and remind you that everyday heroes can be found in the most unlikely places.

The Finest Hours, starring Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Chris Pine, Eric Bana and a stellar cast arrives in theaters, Friday, January 29, 2016.

LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure brings the gang back together after receiving a suspicious invitation to a new theme park that’s eerily similar to that of LEGOLAND. Join Emmet, Wyldstyle, Unikitty, MetalBeard and Benny as they face what seems to be another evil plot by a new character.. Risky Business. All the rides at the new theme park are based on the characters and their experiences in “The LEGO Movie”. When they learn what this Risky Business character is up to they will need to save the day, but can’t do it alone. They will call upon someone with Master Builder skills to help.. YOU!

The 12 1/2-minute 3D film will play several times a day at each LEGOLAND site, with “4D” effects such as wind, water, fog and more bringing the action bursting off the screen and into the audience. The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure is premiering at LEGOLAND Florida Resort on Jan. 29, 2016, followed by LEGOLAND California Resort on Feb. 6.

This is a great addition to LEGOLAND Florida and just another reason to take a trip to check out the Theme Park, which is approaching its 5th birthday. Stay at the themed and interactive LEGOLAND resort right next door and be immersed in everything LEGO. Models, LEGO pits, play area, Disco Elevator- The fun just does not stop. Everything is Awesome! Keep an eye out for new adventures and events coming your way!

The Lion Guard Adventure Coming Soon to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

lion guard

Do you have what it takes to be part of the Lion Guard?  Well, coming very soon- in February to be exact, young explorers will have the chance to take part in an adventure to become honorary members of the Lion Guard in a new program at Disney’s Animal Kingdom inspired by Disney Junior’s animated series “The Lion Guard,” which premiered January 15, 2016 on Disney Channel.  My kids are already loving this series, and I’m not going to lie, I am too!

“The Lion Guard” continues the epic storytelling of “The Lion King” and follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, and his diverse group of friends as they unite to protect the Pride Lands. The story of Kion and his friends, who make up the Pride Lands’ fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest and keenest of sight, was introduced in “The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar” television movie which premiered on Disney Channel in November 2015 and became the #1 primetime cable TV telecast of 2015 among kids ages 2-5. The Education and Science experts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park serve as consultants, inspiring original stories based on their first-hand experiences and advising on the characteristics, behaviors and habitats of various African animal species.

The new Lion Guard Adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom sends kids on a search throughout the entire park for the five Lion Guard characters: Kion, the fierce leader of the Lion Guard; Bunga, a brave and fearless honey badger (and my personal favorite!!); Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a friendly and good-natured hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret.

The adventure begins as explorers pick up their Lion Guard Adventure Map available in select merchandise locations. Youngsters will search for character statues hidden in themed locations throughout the park that represent each animal. For example, Kion, the son of Simba, can be found in Africa. Ono, the egret, can be found near the Tree of Life, and Beshte, the hippo is hidden in Harambe.  At each stop, there’s a Lion Guard banner and a sign with the character’s attribute.

As guests make their way through the park, they learn about animals and the Circle of Life. Once all five character traits are discovered, the adventure culminates at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Here, cast members induct your young explorers into the Lion Guard with a special pledge, fun activities, and a Lion Guard Button identifying them as honorary members. Plus, featured character from The Lion Guard, Rafiki, joins the newest inductees for a memorable photo opportunity.  You will not want to miss this!!!

Fans can enjoy even more Lion Guard experiences inside Conservation Station with Lion Guard music, videos and a special look at Disney Junior and Disneynature’s new short-form series “It’s UnBungalievable,” a nature show hosted by “The Lion Guard’s” animated Bunga the honey badger, and Ono the egret, featuring live-action wildlife footage.

Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite parks, home to thrilling rides, up close adventures with many species of animals and some great dining!  You will definitely want to make it part of your next Walt Disney World vacation.  2016 is shaping up to be an amazing year in Walt Disney World with lots you won’t want to miss.  To begin planning your next family vacation, email me at [email protected]!  I’m happy to help bring a little magic to your next adventure and help you create long-lasting memories!
