Top 7 ways to dine on a budget at Walt Disney World

IMG 1269
IMG 1269

IMG_1269

There are few things more important than food however eating in Walt Disney World can become quit expensive! I know I am always looking for some money saving tips, here are some for saving money on food in Walt Disney World;

  1. Drinks – make sure you are not spending all of your money on drinks while at the parks, one way to save some money here is too bring water bottles to the parks, you can refill them at the water fountains. Florida is known for it’s relentless heat so make sure to keep hydrated.
  2. Kids Meals – Disney does nothing small and this is no exception, a kids meal can fill most grown adults and they are much cheaper then the adult meals. Sometimes the kids meals are much more fun then the adult meals anyway.
  3. Do your research – There is so much information out there on Disney restaurants, some sites even include prices, this is a good way to see where you want to eat and how much you will be spending.
  4. Bring your own food – There is a supermarket that delivers to Disney World and you can purchase things like cereal, milk, bread and other goodness so you can make your own breakfast or lunch. You should also make sure to pack your bags up with snacks for you and the children so you will not be tempted to buy a $10.00 dollar cookie if you get a little hungry while at the parks.
  5.  Use Table Service for Lunch – Walt Disney World offers some amazing foods, but most of the time you can get the same food at lunchtime for much less cost then at dinner. It is great to take a break in the middle of the day to sit down for a less expensive lunch.
  6. Character Meals for Breakfast – Just like having a table service for lunch will be cheaper so will having a character meal at breakfast. This is also a great way to have a meal with the characters, the kids will be more alert (haven’t had a chance to get tired) and you will save some money!
  7. Use Gift Cards – the key to saving money here is buying your gift cards somewhere that will get you a discount. Target and Sam’s club often offer 5% off on Disney Gift cards

Hopefully these tips will help you out in saving a little cash while in Walt Disney World.

Top 5 Disney’s California Adventure Rides to Ride at Night

dca night rides
dca night rides

dca night rides

Disney’s California Adventure Park is amazing no matter what time of day it is, however it is a completely different experience after the sun goes down. The whole atmosphere of the park changes – the entire park is lit up in shimmering lights, the music around the park seems louder, the rides seems faster, and the scents seem stronger. So, here are the top five California Adventure rides that you should ride at night during your next visit.

  • Radiator Springs Racers – All of Cars Land is gorgeous at night – there are so many lights! If you make your way down to Radiator Spring Racers you’ll be in for a treat. The entire Ornament Valley is aglow and it is really a sight to see. The race portion of the ride also seems so much faster, the music seems louder, and it is just a completely different experience than riding it during the day.
  • Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree – This is currently my son’s favorite ride, and while it is a lot of fun during the day it is so much more fun at night. The ride area is all aglow with shimmering lights, like a giant dance floor, and the music seems so much louder. The ride itself also feels faster, so hold onto your hats!
  • Tower of Terror – I know, this entire ride takes place inside, so why is it included in this night time ride list? The reason that Tower of Terror is included is because riding at night makes it that much scarier. The ride itself is scary during the day – after all you are traveling to the fifth dimension via a free-falling elevator. However, when you come inside the creepy Hollywood Tower Hotel from the darkness of night your sense are already heightened making the ride even better.
  • California Screamin’ – As with all roller coasters, California Screamin’ is much more amazing at night! The on ride music seems louder and the ride itself seems faster. However, by far the best part of this nighttime experience is getting to see the entire park all alight.
  • Mickey’s Fun Wheel – During the day Mickey’s Fun Wheel give you the opportunity to take in California Adventure from a bird’s eye view – it is breathtaking! It is even more so at night since the entire park is lit up, so take advantage of this unique opportunity. Remember that there are both swinging and stationary cars so that everyone can enjoy it.

Toy Story Midway Mania in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios has been adding a third track for some time now, it is scheduled to open in the summer of 2016. Disney will be closing the ride down on March 15th. No worries it is only supposed to be down for a day.  Whew! We are assuming this shut down of the ride has something to do with the new 3rd track being added.

Toy Story Midway Mania is definitely one of the most popular rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The wait in line is often over 90 minutes. Usually there is even a wait with fast passes due to its popularity.

If you have never rode Toy Story Midway Mania I suggest you get your fast passes now, the ride is similar to Buzz Lightyear at Magic Kingdom but so much more fun!

Be sure to check out our Disney World Refurb & Closure schedule we publish every month!

10 Reasons Why We LOVE Magic Kingdom!

love MK 10
love MK 10

love MK 10

I have yet to meet a Disney fan who doesn’t love Magic Kingdom…most even say it’s their favorite. That’s a bold statement, I know. But it’s your favorite too, isn’t it? While this list is not exhaustive it includes what I have narrowed as my Top 10. If I wrote everything I loved about MK you’d all lose interest after number 987!

#1 The Castle

Did you think I would get through this list without mentioning Cinderella’s castle? If so, you may not really be a Disney Addict (kidding, of course!). I remember the first time I saw the castle. I remember the first time my daughter saw it. I love every angle, every picture and everything about what it represents. Walt’s vision!

#2 Adventureland

The overall theming in this land is one of my favorites area in Disney World overall. I love the feeling of hopping from the Tomorrowland to Fantasyland to this buccaneer’s paradise. I’m fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride  as well as the Swiss Family Treehouse. Some of my favorite shops in Magic Kingdom are right in Adventureland. I love a good surfer-themed Mickey dress.

adventureland

#3 Main Street, U.S.A.

Photographers dressed in old-timey striped costumes. Character parades and dancers. The smell of popcorn and candy. The view. There isn’t anything about Main Street that I don’t love. In fact, it’s the place in Disney I probably most often daydream about. I could wander The Emporium for hours shopping for souvenirs!

#4 The Mountains

Disney is many people’s favorite set of theme parks and it’s not just because of all that magic! The rides are safe and great for both thrill seekers and the more tame vacationer. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain and the legendary Space Mountain are 3 coasters that I can’t visit Disney without riding. Multiple times if possible! Space Mountain is probably my favorite because I love the element of darkness and not knowing where the car is headed next. I also love the queue! The recently added games spice things up a bit other than the thrill of a few minutes out of the sun.

#5 The Walt Disney World Railroad

What better way to see the sights and relax a bit? I love the old fashioned look and the stations for the train. I remember being beyond overheated on my last visit and we sat and let the breeze cool us off and enjoyed the shade. This is a must-do for me every visit.

#6 Character Meet and Greets

There are so many great characters to be seen in Magic Kingdom. One of my favorites that I always seem to bump into in Fantasyland is Lady Tremaine and her awful daughters, Drizella and Anastasia. I say that because in the picture below I am being scolded for my child whining! They’re hilarious and so well cast. There are also many places to see Pooh and his friends, Mickey and the gang, Tinkerbell, Alice and the White Rabbit and so many others.

drizella and anastasia

#7 The Food

Pick your treat and you can find it here! Dole whips, Mickey premium ice cream bars, popcorn, turkey legs. And that’s literally just the crowd pleasing favorites. You can get all those things other places for the most part…but wouldn’t you rather eat them while gazing at the castle? Doesn’t everything taste better in front of the castle?

#8 The Transportation Bus Music

When your Walt Disney World Resort bus pulls up to Magic Kingdom and plays that welcome music over the speakers…my heart could melt into a thousand pieces.

#9 New Fantasyland

I remember when I first heard that they were expanding Fantasyland and including some of the more recent princesses movie themed areas. I was SO excited! And I am proud to say they didn’t disappoint. My favorite addition to the magic is Be Our Guest because I am a die hard Beauty and the Beast fan.

be our guest room

#10 The Entrance

There is no feeling on Earth like walking up to those gates and seeing little pieces of what awaits you! Indescribable. Feelings of joy, excitement and anticipation overwhelm you as you embark on your day at the Magic Kingdom!

What are your favorite things to do and see at Magic Kingdom? Did I forget any good ones??

I’m Autumn and I’m here to help you plan your trip and get your through those gates of the Magic Kingdom! Contact me today via email or find me on Facebook to get your quote!

Disney

Check out the first teaser poster for Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon,” a reimagining of the studio’s cherished family film about the adventures of a boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. Please share with your readers. “Pete’s Dragon,” starring Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford flies into U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

Also, be sure to catch the debut of the brand new teaser trailer during “Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60” on ABC Sunday night at 8:00PM EST.

A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. “Pete’s Dragon” stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World”), Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Karl Urban (“Star Trek”), Oona Laurence (“Southpaw”) and Oscar® winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”). The film, which is directed by David Lowery (“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”), is written by Lowery & Toby Halbrooks based on a story by Seton I. Miller and S.S. Field and produced by Jim Whitaker, p.g.a. (“The Finest Hours,” “Friday Night Lights”), with Barrie M. Osborne (“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Great Gatsby”) serving as executive producer.

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

The Best Viewing Locations for the Disneyland Forever Fireworks

Disney really has a way of making fireworks more than just fireworks. This is especially true when it comes to the Disneyland Forever Fireworks at Disneyland Park. This show has been delighting guests since the beginning of the Diamond Celebration in May of 2015. Everyone should get to Disneyland at least once in their life, and if you’re going to be experiencing Walt’s original Magic Kingdom any time soon you’ll need to know where to watch these magical fireworks from! Let’s talk about the best viewing locations for the Disneyland Forever Fireworks.

First, the Disneyland Fireworks are more than just fireworks! There is music, lights, images projected on buildings, and of course the amazing fireworks themselves.

  • Main Street U.S.A. – The most popular viewing location for the Disneyland Forever Fireworks is Main Street USA. It really gives you the whole experience! After all, the Sleeping Beauty Castle is the symbol of Disneyland and watching the show with the castle at its center is magical. Images are shown on the buildings of Main Street which make this show truly unique. However, since it is the most popular it is also the most crowded. Guests will start to line Main Street, sometimes hours, before the Paint the Night Parade and many will stay in these places for the fireworks.
  • Fantasyland – Behind the castle in Fantasyland you will find a great, and unique viewing opportunity! The fireworks will appear above, yet still behind, the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction.
  • It’s a Small World – Much like on Main Street, images will be projected on the It’s a Small World facade during the show and this location provides you with a location that is closest to where the fireworks are shot off – they are shot from behind Toontown.
  • Rivers of America – You can also watch the show from the Rivers of America, however since this either section of the park is now closed it is not the same as it once was. The fireworks can be seen near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
  • Tomorrowland – Tomorrowland provides you with another unique viewing location that most guests will mostly likely not think of. The fireworks will be near the Matterhorn.

If you’re not interested in the whole experience – you just want to see the fireworks, or perhaps you’re coming from California Adventure, but don’t want to actually enter Disneyland Park to try to get a spot you’re in luck you can watch from outside the park, too!

  • In between – The space in between the two park entrances is a less crowded, but now popular location. It is an interesting location, I personally like it, but you certainly do not get the whole experience. You can enjoy the fireworks and not have to fight the crowds afterwards.
  • Downtown Disney – If you’re shopping when the fireworks are about to start, don’t worry, Downtown Disney also provides a great place to watch if you’ve seen the show before and are just interested in the fireworks.

How cool is this? So, as a Disney fan you know Disney World loves to have hidden Mickey’s all over the place, however they have just found a place to put a giant 20 acre long hidden Mickey! If you look at a section of land near Disney’s Epcot you will notice the well-loved shape in a solar farm!

Duke Energy and Disney have a 15 year agreement where Duke Energy can build, own and operate a solar farm on Disney’s land and in return Disney will be provided with solar energy. We mentioned this last year and Duke Energy is just about done!

The hidden Mickey is along World Drive, which means you pass it on the way to Epcot however it is unnoticeable from the ground. I still think it is pretty cool we drive past the largest hidden Mickey in the world every time we are going one of the best theme parks in the world!

Where is your favorite hidden Mickey? Comment below!
