5 Tips for Tipping at Disney

If you are planning a Disney vacations, most of your trip is paid for before you even arrive on property. However, there are still expenses that you need to budget for including meals (if you aren’t on the dining plan), souvenirs, and tipping.

Who should you tip at Disney, and how much? Here are 5 tips for tipping at Disney.

1) Mousekeeping: The general rule of thumb for tipping Mousekeeping is $1.00 per day, for each person in the room. For example, if you are a family of 4 staying for 5 nights, you would tip $20.00. Although it is not required to tip Mousekeeping, it is always a nice gesture.

2) Luggage: You know you over packed. You know your luggage is heavy. I usually tip $1-$2 per bag for anyone that helps me with my luggage. If you are using the Magical Express, you probably will not see the person who delivers your bags to your room.

3) Dining: Just like restaurants outside of Disney, tipping is expected after a table service meal. Even if you are using the Disney Dining plan, you should still leave a tip for the wait staff. This can be done with cash, credit/debit, or using your magic band. Generally, tipping between 18%-20% is good. For parties of 6 or more, Disney will automatically add an 18% tip to the bill.

4) Salon Services: whether you are receiving a massage at The Grand Floridian, a hair-cut at the barber shop, or your little girl is becoming a Princess at Bibbity-Bobbity Boutique – you should still consider tipping the same as you would at a salon back home. I try to aim for 20% for these services.

5) Drivers: If you are using valet or another car service, make sure to tip your driver. For valet, I usually go with a couple of dollars, depending on the weather. I have even seen people tip the Disney bus drivers, although I feel like this is rare.

Did I miss anyone that should be getting a tip at Disney? Let me know your thoughts about tipping at Disney in the comments.

A New Look For The Upcoming Live Action “The Jungle Book”

THE JUNGLE BOOK - (L-R) MOWGLI and GRAY. ©2015 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood was the site for a sneak peek at some of the scenes from the upcoming new Disney Film “The Jungle Book” along with the opportunity to hear from Director Jon Favreau and Visual Effects Supervisor, Rob Legato.

The new live action film is based on the animated movie of the same name from 1967 which in turn was based on the story by Rudyard Kipling.   Yet while the film takes us back to the characters and story we know, it is not what you might remember as a kid. The new version is actually more along the lines of the original Kipling story – dark and  dramatic.    The adventure has Mowgli (played by Neel Sethi) the man-cub raised by a family of wolves running from Shere Khan, the fearsome tiger who is out to seek revenge against Mowgli who he sees as a threat.   Along side, mentor Bagheera, the panther and buddy Baloo the bear, Mowgli runs into jungle creatures who are not exactly the friendliest.   From the seductive voice and gaze of Kaa, the python to smooth talker, King Louie, Mowgli and his buddies need to stay one step ahead of danger.

Watching the clips and listening to Jon Favreau and Rob Legato talking about The Jungle Book, was beyond impressive.  The ability to bring to the screen life like animals interacting with real actors is something that still leaves this Entertainment Report in awe.  Using the state of the art technology, Disney’s team of animators and special effects use CGI (computer generated imagery) environments along with photo-real animal characters to bring to life, Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), King Louie (Christopher Walken), Baloo (Bill Murray), Kaa (Scarlett Johansson), Shere Khan (Iridis Elba) and many other characters in a way that only Disney can.   Taking Sethi, the only human character in the film and placing him in backgrounds and scenes that will blow the audience away.

The Jungle Book is directed by Jon Jon Favreau from the screenplay by Justin Marks, the film includes the talents of Visual Effects Supervisor Rob Legato.   Famous for conceiving the virtual production of Avatar, winning Academy awards for Hugo, Titanic and an oscar nomination for Apollo 13, Legato brings his knowledge and experience to The Jungle Book.

To Favreau and other members of the crew, The Jungle Book left an impressionable image as kids.  Now as adults and with incredible technology at their fingertips, Favreau talks about the ability to “tell the story in the manner Kipling actually might have imagined it – that of a real kid in a real jungle living with actual animals that just happen to be able to talk to him.”

The goal of Favreau and the team was to create a world where movie goers would be transported into the story and forget the technological portions of the film.  “Walt Disney was always at the cutting edge of technology.”   Legato took “photo-real animation, motion capture techniques and live-action shooting and combined the three in way that no one had ever done before.”  Taking some of the concepts used in Disneyland, they made the animals a bit bigger than life or in the case of King Louie, huge!  Legato’s VFX team joined the animation team of Andy Jones.  They shot footage of animals in their nature habitats in the wild. Taking the footage and adding cutting edge CGI, they were able to take the characteristics and mannerisms of the animals and transfer it to the screen.  Building a digital jungle, enabled them to enhance areas as needed.  Be it the color and shape  of the foliage,  or the minute movements of the animals, the audience will be transported to the jungles of India surrounded by realistic looking animals and taken on the adventures of a lifetime with Mowgli and his friends.

Watching the sneak peek, had me gripping my box of popcorn as I silently watched the screen filled with enormous bulk of King Louie, appreciated the mastery behind the look of Bagheera and was once again amazed by the ability of the Disney magic to combine all the aspects needed to make “The Jungle Book” a one of a kind experience.   I can’t wait to see the animals performing some of my favorite songs.

Below are a few pictures from the event and film including 2 of my favorites – King Louie and the audience hypnotized by the scenes. This is one film that will bring a whole new look to the old favorite, taking your childhood memories and bringing them to life, bigger and better than ever. Coming to theaters, April 15, 2016, “The Jungle Book” is no longer the animated classic you grew up with.

New concept art of Star Wars Land previewed on Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary Show

Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary show was amazing! During the show one of the previews that was shown was the art concept of the new Star Wars Land which will be opening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and DisneylandHarrison Ford, who introduced the segment, didn’t mention a name for the Star Wars land nor did we hear an opening date, but we did get a few ideas from the previews.

The ride seems to be a ship like vessel which takes you through a dark ride which contains a battle, it looks to be something like Spiderman at Universal Studios. There was also previews of the Millennium Falcon walkthrough, the cantina, a street market, and a dinner club dining experience. I cannot wait for this area to open and get to try all the exciting attractions in the Star Wars area.

Top Ten Reasons I’m Looking Forward to My Next Disney Cruise

next cruise
next cruise

next cruise

Even before my family took our first Disney Cruise this past August we already had another booked because we knew it was going to be that amazing. Well, Disney always goes above and beyond what I expect, not only what I expect from other, but always what I have come to expect from the Disney company. Disney Cruise Line is amazing and does not disappoint. With that in mind, here are the top ten reasons I’m looking forward to my next Disney cruise.

  1. Pirate Night – My family’s first cruise was to Alaska, and it was an absolutely amazing experience and I hope to do it again someday, but there is no pirate night on Alaska cruises. With our next cruise being to the Bahamas pirate night is a definite and I’m excited to experience it. The deck party, the fireworks, and the food are all calling my name.
  1. Dressing Up – I am not at all a girly-girl and normally I really dislike dressing up. I only dress up when I have to. However, I actually really enjoyed dressing up on our first cruise. I like that our whole family, including our one year old son, were all dressed up and looking good on the two dress up nights. One of the things that I really like about Disney Cruise Line is that it is not like other cruises were everyone has to dress up for dinner every night. There are one to two dress up nights per cruise and they give you the opportunity to dress up and feel special.
  1. A New Ship – I loved exploring the Disney Wonder – it was a great ship with so much to see and do. Now I’m excited to get to be able to explore the Disney Magic! There are new places to find and new themes and dining experience to enjoy.
  1. Castaway CayCastaway Cay is Disney Cruise Line’s private island and I’m looking forward to it because I’ve never been there before. There is so much to see and do – you can relax on the beach or you can go for a run. You can just do your own thing or you can sign up for an excursion. You can even mail yourself something back from the post office on the island with a Castaway Cay post mark. Dining on Castaway Cay is also included in the cruise fare, so dig in and enjoy!
  1. All That’s Included – So much is include in the cruise fare and that’s one of the reasons I love Disney Cruise Line. Not only is your stay on the ship, or your stateroom, included, but so is all of your main and quick service dining, most things on the room service menu, and drinks that are non-alcoholic. Onboard entertainment, like the Broadway style shows, movies, and character meet and greets are also included. Lastly, the kid’s clubs are all included, too!
  1. Characters – One of my favorite things to do on my last cruise was to meet characters – they are literally everywhere on the ship. I loved being able to meet characters with minimal wait on my last cruise and I look forward to being able to do it again!
  1. Food – I love Disney food and the food aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships is, well amazing. There is so much variety, all of which is delicious. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you can enjoy a sit down or quick service meal, a buffet, or room service. You can get snacks from room service, the quick service locations, or ice cream on the pool deck. For the adults there are also lounges and signature dining. You can get something to eat literally any time 24 hours a day, and no matter what you get you will not be disappointed with it. I can’t wait to dig into some more Disney Cruise Line food.
  1. Relaxation – I am definitely looking forward to being able to sit back and relax! That’s what cruises are all about, right? Whether it’s on deck or on my verandah I will be letting all my cares float away and just enjoying each moment.
  1. Service – As mentioned earlier, Disney is known for their service and they go above and beyond. From the captain to the maintenance staff and everyone in between – the kid’s club cast members, the dining room service teams, the stateroom hosts, everyone on the entire ship is amazing! They will do whatever it takes to make it so that you have a memorable cruise. I can’t wait to experience this again.
  1. Magic – Disney is known for Magic! I’m looking forward to the Disney magic of the whole experience – characters, service, the little Disney touches like hidden Mickeys and themes. I’m just looking forward to it all.

This marathon weekend is one of two annual runDisney events geared towards woman, the other even being Tinkerbell Half Marathon Weekend in Anaheim, California, sponsored by Pandora Jewelry and takes place in May. It is being reported that there was just a bus accident outside of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and that the entrance is now being blocked.

Chip was on the scene to take some photos. There was no EMS at the accident so it looks to just be a fender bender.

If you are in the area try to steer clear of the Animal Kingdom area to avoid the traffic.
