Disney is cutting back on Cast Members Hours

MK

According to reports Disney is going to be cutting cast members hours as early as tomorrow!

The word on the street is that Disney is making adjustments to the shifts at its parks and resorts with changes going into effect starting Sunday July 23, 2017.  These cuts are slated to run until September 30, 2017 which is the end of Disney’s fiscal calendar.

Little is known as of yet as to what impact this will have on the customer experience though historically this has resulted in longer wait times at the attractions.

Cutbacks like this are not all that uncommon at the theme parks with the last notable round happening in early 2016 leading many to speculate that soaring costs at Shanghai Disney were having an effect on operations stateside.   Disney however has argued in the past that hours will typically fluctuate int the normal course of business. In a statement last year to the Orlando Sentinel they added “We continually refine our operations to be as efficient as possible while delivering an experience that exceeds the evolving expectations of our guests,” the company said in a statement.

Stay tuned to Chip and Co for further information on this story and the latest Disney news, updates and reviews.

Darkwing Duck Returns for the New DuckTales Reboot

Darkwing Duck Returns

Get ready DuckTales fans, because things are about to get dangerous! He is the terror that flaps in the night, he is the mouse that nips your cheese, and he is returning to TV in the new Ducktales reboot on Disney XD! That’s right guys, DarkWing Duck returns once more in the new DuckTales reboot!

The confirmation that DarkWing Duck returns, was made at the San Deigo Comic Con by the creators of the DuckTales reboot. Only a brief image of concept art was shown, but that’s enough to get this Duck fan super excited! The brief sneak peek also shows Darkwing’s motorcycle, the Ratchatcher, and his ultimate arch nemesis MEGAVOLT! The show creators stayed very quiet on how Darkwing will be introduced, or even when we will see his first appearance, but knowing it WILL happen is enough for me!

DuckTales will make it’s premiere with an hour long movie on Saturday, August 12th on the  Disney XD channel. The series will make it’s official debut with two new episodes Saturday September 23rd!

Are you excited for the return of Darkwing Duck in the new DuckTales reboot?

An Interview with the Costume Designer of Disney Cruise Line’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’

DCL

The Beauty and the Beast live show sails on to the Disney Dream this November! Jonathan Frontado from Disney Parks Blog recently had the opportunity to sit down with Sarah Cubbage who is the Broadway costume designer for the production at sea. He was able to get all the scoop on what it takes to design the elaborate costumes for the brand-new stage production of the tale as old as time.

Disney Cruise Line

As you’re designing costumes for “Beauty and the Beast” aboard the Disney Dream, what has been your biggest inspiration?
“It’s a combination… I’ve of course been inspired by the iconic Disney characters and also by the luscious costume designs in the film. I’ve also really been inspired by the period, by exploring and researching what French country provincial wear is for peasants in the 18th century. And I’ve been inspired by fairytale, looking at examples of other fairytales and how different people have interpreted them. That’s really what we are creating – a fairytale based in this world – so you can let your imagination run wild.”

An Interview with the Costume Designer of Disney Cruise Line's 'Beauty and the Beast'

In what ways has the new live-action film inspired you?
“It’s the reality and depth and texture of the costumes in the film that I found incredibly inspiring. The animated version of “Beauty and the Beast” is iconic, but of course it is flat by nature of the animation. Because the live-action film exists, it gives us license and leeway to delve into the texture. What the costume designer in the film did so brilliantly is that no longer is Belle just in a flat blue dress. Belle is in a real skirt with that gorgeous, quilted hanging pocket that is authentic to the period. She’s a bit of a tomboy and can pull up her skirt and tuck it into her apron, so you’re aware of the lacing and the fabrics working together.”

Tell us about your process for bringing the beloved characters of this classic tale to life in a whole new way through costuming.
“My process begins with the research, and it’s about combining the historical element with the fantasy element. In this particular production of “Beauty and the Beast,” we are doing hi-fi story theater, which is combining traditional and really fun storytelling techniques with hi-tech fabulousness. So to bring the costumes to life doing that, I’ve started with digging into the 18th century period. Who are these people? How did they live? What was Belle’s life really like as a poor girl in the countryside in 18th century France? It’s everything from reading scripts to looking at pictures to meticulously studying the clothes, and that historical base helps gives the characters another dimension. Then, since we are in this spectacular fairytale, I combine that with the fantasy element that comes when she goes into the castle. And it’s with the fantasy element that we get to have a ton of fun with sparkle and sequence and rhinestones.”

What’s different or unique about the costumes in this production from other retellings of “Beauty and the Beast?”
“The costumes in “Beauty and the Beast” combine texture and reality with high-fashion, spectacular dance numbers. The biggest “wow” factor guests can expect from the costumes is in the “Be our Guest” number. They are going to be delighted with high-fashion, high-sparkle, gorgeous dance numbers, including an appetizer fashion show. We are creating our own world that’s gorgeous enough to be exciting from a fashion standpoint and also fun enough so that a six-year-old sees an escargot walking down the runway and gets it. Audiences have never seen a “Be Our Guest” like this before, and they are going to be delighted and completely wow-ed with the creative storytelling. ”

Sarah is collaborating with an incredibly talented team, led by director and choreographer Connor Gallagher, to bring the timeless fable of “Beauty and the Beast” to life like never before.

It’s been almost 2 months since Pandora – The World of Avatar opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The overall response from guests has been amazement at the level of detail that was invested into this new land.

A big example of Disney’s attention to detail is the Na’vi Shaman of Songs who can be spotted while riding the Na’vi River Journey attraction inside Pandora. She is the most complicated Audio-Animatronic figure ever attempted by Walt Disney Imagineering.

This past Monday at a TechCrunch Robotics session in Boston, the prototype of the animatronic Shaman figure was displayed so that guests could see the inner workings of the robot. Take a look…

Just to put things into perspective, here is the Na’vi Shaman of Songs fully “dressed” and in action:

The Na’vi Shaman of Songs is just the beginning of the future of Audio-Animatronics in the Disney Parks. I’m hoping we see this level of detail when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in 2018
