Mark Hamill, Minnie Mouse and Zoe Saldana To Get Stars on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The 2018 inductees into the Hollywood Walk of Fame were revealed this week and its a banner year for Disney. The announcement was made that Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker) will finally receive his star as will Minnie Mouse who will join her friends Walt, Mickey and Donald who are already immortalized on Hollywood Boulevard.

Zoe Saldana will also get her star. The actress appears in both James Cameron’s Avatar franchise as well as Guardians of the Galaxy and recently made Disney appearances on both coasts for the opening of Pandora- The World of Avatar at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure Park.

Other notable additions to the Hollywood Walk of Fame with Disney ties include: Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana).

A First Look at Pixar’s New Short Film “Smash and Grab”

Disney’s Pixar has created a new experimental shorts department called “Smash and Grab: Off-the-Rails Filmmaking at Pixar,” and now thanks to Pixar’s technical artist and short film producer David Lally, we’re getting a first look at the department’s first short film also called “Smash and Grab.”

Lally shared images to his Twitter account giving fans a look at what they can expect from “Smash and Grab.”

Pixar’s experimental storytelling initiative will explore “the use of a comic book development process, virtual production, performance/camera capture, and procedural shading and lighting techniques.” Filmakers are given total creative control to create their story within 6 months without any executive supervision.

Southern California Man Goes to Disneyland 2000 Days in a Row and Plans to Continue Visiting Daily

Jeff Reitz may be the biggest Disney fan of all time. The Southern California resident has made a trip to Disneyland every day since January 1, 2012. Today marked his 2000th consecutive visit!

Reitz received an annual pass as a gift and started daily trips to Disneyland to lift his spirits while he was temporarily unemployed. He never set out to visit every day for over 5 years, but he enjoyed his daily visits so much he just kept going back.

Not only does he enjoy meeting other guests at the park, but he also enjoys meeting all the of the Disney Cast Members. Reitz plans to continue his daily visits for as long as he can.

Ron Howard to Take Over Directing Duties for New Han Solo Movie

Hollywood was abuzz this morning with the news that Ron Howard will be taking over the director’s chair for the new Lucasfilm Star Wars Han Solo spinoff film. This marks the first time that Howard has been involved with a Star Wars film and the first time an Oscar-winning director will try his hand at the Star Wars franchise.

This comes on the heels of the recent news that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the production months after filming was already underway due to creative difference with Lucasfilm and Lawrence Kasdan, the films co-writer and executive producer.

This means that Howard will have to roll up his sleeves and take over directing duties immediately as the feature only has a few weeks left of filming with a period set aside for re-shoots already being scheduled for later this year.

Because of his late arrival to the project, it is unclear if Howard will be credited as the sole director or co-director of the film.

Postal Service Announces new Disney Villains Forever Stamps

Good news Villains fans! The United States Postal Service has announced Disney Villains Forever Stamps to celebrate the rich legacy of the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department. The U.S. Postal Service is dedicating a sheet of 20 Forever stamps featuring 10 classic Disney villains during D23 Expo 2017!

The Disney Villains Forever Stamps will be dedicated at 1:30 p.m. PDT July 15, during D23 Expo 2017, on Center Stage. The stamps are available now for pre-order at usps.com/shop, and will begin shipping a few days after the D23 dedication.

If you would like to attend the First Day of Issue Stamp Dedication Ceremony at the Anaheim Convention Center, there is a limited number of passes available. This pass is only for the 1:30 p.m. Stamp Ceremony and will not allow you access to the D23 expo and you can apply for it at usps.com/disney. This will let you R.S.V.P. but does not guarantee a pass. However if you are a D23 Expo 2017 ticket holders do not need to RSVP to attend the dedication ceremony.

Each stamp showcases one of 10 classic Disney villains against a blue background: Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Honest John (Pinocchio), Cruella De Vil (One Hundred and One Dalmatians), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), Lady Tremaine (Cinderella), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), the Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), and Scar (The Lion King). The Disney rumor mill has been abuzz for a while now that the next Walt Disney World theme park to get an expansion would be Epcot. News released by the Orlando Sentinel this morning suggests that this may soon be a reality.

According to the piece, The South Florida Water Management District issued a permit for canal modifications that would allow Disney to build a new storm water system on the north east side of the theme park. Though on the surface this may seem pretty insignificant, re-configuring the canal frees up an area where a possible expansion could take place.

In addition, to the canal, the project will also include creating two dry retention areas for water treatment near areas where future construction is being planned. This is in keeping with earlier statements made by Disney Parks Chairman Bob Chapek who announced at a D23 event last November that Epcot would be undergoing a “major transformation” in the years to come.

The Banshees Are Back, But Not For Long

It has been a little over two weeks that Windtraders has been missing it’s most popular souvenir. But I have good news, as of this morning a new delivery of Banshees have found their way onto the branches of the Rookery.

Cast Members say that only a small number of shoulder banshees arrived and they don’t expect them to last very long. At this time they do not know when the next batch of banshees will fly into Windtraders.

If owning one of these adorable little guys is on your must have list then run don’t walk to Pandora – The World of Avatar to adopt one today. They won’t last long!

Disneyland’s New FastPass System is up and Running!

Disneyland’s new FastPass System began working today! You will still need to take your park ticket or Annual Pass to get paper FastPasses, but once you have them they strictly serve as a reminder of your return time. Now when you arrive at any of the Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure attractions your FastPass will be saved on your park ticket. You will scan your park ticket at the entrance to the FastPass line and enjoy the attraction!

The new FastPass system is leading up to Disneyland’s release of the MaxPass option, a $10 digital service that allows Disneyland guests to book their FastPass times on the Disneyland App. Take a look at the video below to see the new FastPass system in action:

It would seem that Disneyland is slowly phasing out their paper FastPass system. Maybe we will see a system more similar to Walt Disney World’s MagicBands in the future?
