Ariel, Rapunzel, Tarzan…New Exhibit Set to Open in March at the Walt Disney Family Museum

Ariel, Rapunzel, Tarzan...New Exhibit Set to Open in March at the Walt Disney Family Museum

With the new year, the Walt Disney Family Museum is proud to introduce its newest original exhibition, Make Believe: The World of Glen Keane. The exhibit showcases the work of this critical Disney animator. Keane is a talented artist that brought to life some your favorite Disney characters. These characters include Tarzan, Beast, Ariel, Pocahontas, and Rapunzel. The exhibition opens on March 8th, 2018 in the museum’s Theater Gallery. Disney lovers will be able to view it until September 3rd, 2018.

This unique exhibition showcases hand-drawn animation and maquettes of Keane’s most iconic Disney characters, from earlier films, including The Fox and the Hound (1981), to more recent works, including Tangled (2010). Keane’s methodical approach to his work, honed during a 40-year-career that has witnessed profound technological changes in the field of animation, led to a period now recognized as the Disney animation renaissance. Make Believe features images and animation sketches from numerous films, including The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), Pocahontas (1995), and Tarzan (1999).

Of special interest, also on view in this exhibition, are Keane’s personal works, many of which emerged from dynamic partnerships. Visitors can get a rare glimpse into Keane’s collaboration with the Paris Opéra (Nephtali), his embracing of innovation and technology with Google on Duet, and his recent 2017 collaboration with Kobe Bryant and legendary composer John Williams on Dear Basketball.

“Glen joined the Studios when Walt’s key team was still at the creative helm. Working under the tutelage of Walt’s master animators Ollie Johnston, Frank Thomas, and Eric Larson, Glen quickly and adeptly absorbed their wisdom to carry the torch forward and become a pillar of the next generation of creative contributors at the Studios,“ said Kirsten Komoroske, Executive Director of The Walt Disney Family Museum. “We are honored to be able to work with Glen, his family, and his team to showcase this gorgeous, inspiring, and iconic work.”

“When I joined the Disney Studios out of college, I was guided by animators who worked directly with Walt,” said Glen Keane. “Sincerity is the heart of all great animation and is the key to creating characters that the audience will believe in. This is the foundation of Walt Disney Animation. Walt’s legacy has assured the opportunity to create stories that last a lifetime. It’s thrilling for me to connect my work and story back to Walt’s legacy at the museum.”

Make Believe: The World of Glen Keane is organized by The Walt Disney Family Museum and is being presented in the Theater Gallery and Lower Lobby from March 8th through September 3rd, 2018.

Cast Members Placed Their Mark on the New Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center Expansion

Cast Members Placed Their Mark on the New Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center Expansion

The construction of Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center at Walt Disney World Resort is well underway. Disney Cast Members recently had the opportunity to celebrate a major construction milestone with the signing of a support beam which was then lifted into the sky towards the new convention area structure.

“We are proud to be a part of this Disney tradition today and to celebrate the progress of this exciting new development,” said Morgan Palfreyman, Lead Project Manager. “This project has been a long time in the making. The next steps are putting the roof on so our team can work on the exterior finishes and interior finishes simultaneously.”

Cast Members Placed Their Mark on the New Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center Expansion

According to the Disney Meeting Blog, the 28,000-square-foot expansion of the convention center at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts will bring the total amount of flexible meeting and event space at this popular resort location to 100,000 square feet. The new convention area will boast a 16,000 square-foot ballroom that can be divided into eight dynamic breakout spaces. The expansion will also include three pre-function areas and two distinct gathering rotundas providing unique networking spaces for attendees to relax and reconnect.

“We look forward to seeing this project’s progression and The Walt Disney Company’s vision come to life for the future of meeting and convention attendees who meet in this new space,” said Project Manager Chad Schroeder.

The Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center expansion is just one of several exciting new enhancements being developed to accommodate meeting and event attendees. Other projects include Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at Disneyland Resort and Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort at Walt Disney World. The new convention center area at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts is set to open in 2018.

“Do Not Disturb” Signs Removed From Disneyland and Aulani Resort Rooms

Do Not Disturb
A photo of the new “Room Occupied” sign seen at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

As we reported last month, “Do Not Disturb” signs were removed from several Walt Disney World Resort rooms and replaced with “Room Occupied” signs. In addition to the new signs, a new policy was implemented at these Resorts stating that a Cast Member can enter your room at least every 24 hours without cause. We can confirm the signs and policy have been adopted by Disneyland in California and Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa In Hawaii.

While Disney has not officially commented on the new signs and policy, one can imagine that the change is a new security measure in response to the tragedy in Las Vegas this past October. Several other hotel chains are also in the process of adopting this policy.

Legoland Gives Big Surprise To Last Project X Roller Coaster Rider

Project X

After entertaining millions of guests from around the world, the Project X roller coaster at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort celebrated its last rider Jan. 8 before it transforms into The Great LEGO® Race, a fun new attraction that will add an exciting virtual reality story to the existing coaster track.

Young guest Rowan Lewis was making his first visit to the popular theme park when, at 5:05 p.m., he became the last child to ride Project X in its current form. Upon exiting, the Seattle resident was surprised with a brick-built trophy from LEGO pirate Captain Brickbeard in recognition of Rowan’s unique achievement. The shy boy then received a second surprise – an invitation to return as the theme park’s special guest when The Great LEGO Race opens in Spring 2018.

Legoland Gives Big Surprise To Last Project X Roller Coaster Rider

The Great LEGO Race is the first virtual reality (VR) roller coaster experience designed for kids and represents the first time the LEGO brand and minifigure characters have been integrated with VR technology in a theme park attraction.

With animated action taking place on the ground and in the air, the wild and wacky race pits guests against LEGO minifigures including a pirate, wizard, surfer and pharaoh as they steer LEGO-built vehicles like a rocket-powered windsurfing rig, a stylish scooter fueled by espresso and an ornately canopied bed (called a “litter”) carried by mummy servants. Wearing optional VR headsets, riders will experience the action from every direction while riding the roller coaster — up, down, forward, backward and all points in between – in a dazzling environment where everything is made of LEGO bricks.

Guests must be at least 42 inches tall (1.2m) to ride, or be accompanied by a responsible adult at least 48 inches tall. The VR headsets are designed to fit both adults and children, and can be adjusted for comfort. The VR experience is intended for children 6 and up, and guests can choose to ride without wearing the headset.

Fans can preview the 360-degree experience with MackMedia’s Coastiality mobile app (www.coastiality.com/en/), available for iOS, Android and Oculus devices from the App Store, Google Play and the Oculus Store. The app is free to download and can be enjoyed with or without a VR headset.

More Information About the Rumored Additional FastPasses for Club Level Guests at Disney World

Disney World Club Level FastPasses

Additional information is coming out about a rumor we shared yesterday that Guests staying Club Level at Walt Disney World Resorts may be able to purchase 3 additional FastPasses per person per day.

While Disney has yet to confirm any of this rumor, here is the information we’ve gathered so far.

Starting Friday, January 12th, guests who are staying Club Level at select Walt Disney World Resorts will have the opportunity to purchase an additional benefits in addition to their theme park admission.

Guests with a park ticket of 3-days or longer, or are Annual Passholders, will be able to purchase 3 additional FastPasses per guest per day and will be given preferred viewing for nighttime spectaculars.

The additional FastPasses and nighttime benefits will be available for $50 per guest, per day for all guests on the room reservation.

These FastPasses can be used at any of the Walt Disney World theme parks, and, as long as the park tickets include the Park Hopper option, they can be selected at multiple parks on the same day.

Disney Springs Offers Delicious and Nutritious Meals for Everyone!

Morimoto

STK

Was one of your New Years’ Resolutions to adopt a healthier lifestyle? If you are looking to eat healthier like me, then you must check out these nutritious and delicious meal options available at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. Yes, you can eat healthy at Disney!

Frontera Cocina

Taqueria Salad (Frontera Cocina): With petite baby gem lettuces, carrots, radishes, avocado, cotija cheese and tortilla strips, this salad dressed with avocado-lime vinaigrette is a tasty choice when you are craving greens. You can even add shrimp (always cooked just right), but it’s delicious with grilled chicken, too!

Morimoto

Spicy Tuna Roll (Morimoto Asia): Fresh tuna, spicy mayo, and scallions work together to make every bite pure perfection. If you want to up the “good for you” factor, you can request brown rice in place of white at no extra cost. Tuna’s not your thing? Spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, eel & avocado, California or vegetable rolls are also on the menu.

Paddlefish

Fresh Fish of the Day (Paddlefish): I love seafood! Always have and definitely always will. There is nothing better than some fresh fish served up right. If you are looking for a nice and healthy seafood dish on your next visit to Disney Springs, you are in good hands with the culinary team at Paddlefish and their latest catch of the day.

STK

Filet Medallion (STK): Did you know that filet mignon is one of the healthiest cuts of beef? Well, it is, and I couldn’t be happier about it. The 6-ounce portion at STK Orlando is just the right size for steak lovers who still want to show off their skinny jeans. To really stick to your resolutions, skip the mashed potatoes (pictured) and add an order of asparagus or a side of cucumbers & heirloom tomatoes instead.

Blaze Pizza

Red Vine Pizza (Blaze Fast Fire’d Pizza): Pizza doesn’t usually show up on the “healthy” list, but hear me out … with classic dough, red sauce, grated parmesan, ovalini mozzarella, fresh basil, cherry tomatoes and an olive oil drizzle, the Red Vine Pizza from Blaze is a solid choice. Not that I’m saying you should, but you could have an entire pizza for 660 calories. Split it with a friend, and you’ll agree that it’s a smart choice, indeed!

While I’m certainly not a nutritional expert, these five favorites above at Disney Springs will leave you feeling satisfied, but not stuffed. If you’re trying to improve your overall health and well-being, too, be sure to make choices that feel right to you! I can promise you this … if you look hard enough, there are lots of options that can help keep you on track.
