One of our favorite things about visiting Disneyland Resort during the Halloween Season is the amazing transformations a few of the rides go through to add an extra bit of spooky-ness to the parks.  From Haunted Mansion Holiday to Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, you feel like you’re experiencing this rides for the first time.  This year Disney has added another ride into the mix.  The newly opened Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! is also being magically transformed this Fall to Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark.

The ride will still feature all the amazing, drops, special effects, and characters seen in the original. However, now the Guardians are on a new mission to #SaveGroot from some pretty formidable creatures.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark is open each night during the Halloween season between now and October 31st.  Guests visiting during the day should note that the new version of the ride only happens after sunset. There is still time to take advantage of the appealing “Fall into the Magic” rates that are being offered by the seven Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels in Central Florida, as the special hotel room rates are available through October 9, 2017. This provides a great way to experience the  International Food & Wine Festival at Epcot, the Eat to the Beat Concert Series at Epcot, and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park. It also is a wonderful time to see the impressive all-new Pandora – The World of Avatar, which opened in May at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and to experience the significantly expanded Disney Springs.

Coming through Hurricane Irma, the seven hotels simply had some very minor foliage debris clean-up which was quickly completed to ensure guests’ safety. The hotels are all fully operational and have been busy hosting guests, including those who had fled the storm from South Florida, according to Ed Gilbert, Director of Marketing for the organization. The Walt Disney World Resort’s four theme parks reopened on Tuesday, September 12, and also are fully operational during their normal business hours.

Atlanta Braves Spring Training Coming to an End at Walt Disney World

Online reports state that the Atlanta Braves will be leaving their current Spring Training home at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World after a 21-year run. The 2018 spring training season will mark the end of the Braves and Major League Baseball at Disney.

The Braves organization has been in discussions with the City Commission of North Port, Florida for over two years to build their new Spring Training home there. North Port is just south of the Sarasota, Florida area. The final vote was cast by the Commission this week to finalize the Braves’ arrival and a $100 million deal.

Sarasota County also approved the deal for the new stadium to be built in the middle of the West Villages development in the county. The new complex will be owned by the county but operated by the Braves Organization.

Construction on the new 8,000 seat stadium will be pretty rather rapidly since Braves pitchers and catchers will be required to report to the new complex in just under a year and a half.

This will mark the first time the Orlando area will be without a Major League Baseball Team in quite some time. With the Braves departure, the Detroit Tigers will now be the closest team to train near Disney World. The Tigers train in Lakeland, Florida.

As a Braves fan, this one is hard to write. After meeting my husband at a Braves game here in Atlanta almost 11 years ago, I’ve mad so many memories visiting Braves Spring Training with my family in recent years. What can be more magical than a visit to The Happiest Place on Earth and taking in a baseball game at the same time?

What’s this, what’s this? There’s Lula in the air! That’s right according to the Disney Fashionista new The Nightmare Before Christmas and Villains LulaRoe prints have been spotted!

Yesterday LulaRoe launched it’s Halloween Capsule, and with it came videos sneak peeks of things to come! We don’t know if the Disney will be apart of the Halloween release, or it’s own separate release, but we will keep our eyes peeled for more updates!

Chef Art Smith and Iron Chef Morimoto Will Be Among the Culinary Greats at Party for the Senses on September 23rd

The September 23rd Party for the Senses held as part of this year’s Food & Wine Festival is shaping up to be a who’s who of culinary talent including Chef Art Smith of Homecomin’ and Iron Chef Morimoto.   Here’s a tweet posted by Art Smith advertising what is sure to be one of the culinary events of the year:


Celebrity Chef Art Smith includes the likes of Jeb Bush and Oprah Winfrey as his previous clients and has put his name to Homecomin’ at Disney Springs.  The dishes you’ll find here are what Smith has dubbed “farm-to-fork” cuisine with an emphasis on the fresh flavors of Florida.  Masahuru Morimoto gained fame from his appearances on Iron Chef and Iron Chef America and runs the esteemed Pan-Asian eatery Morimoto at Disney Springs.  Both Chefs will be on hand during this delightful culinary soiree and may even teach you a trick of the trade or two!

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Celebrates Their 25th Anniversary with These Awesome Medals

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is the biggest race of the season featuring six races and three challenges all hosted by your favorite Disney characters. The 25th Anniversary of Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend kicks off in just over three months on January 3, 2018! Today, Disney released photos of the official race medals that we wanted to share. This year’s medals commemorate the silver anniversary of the race weekend and feature colorful designs with lots of bling!

Take a look at what you can earn this year, with limited spots still remaining for select races:

Pluto 5k

Starting off the race weekend celebration in the most “paw”-fect way is the Walt Disney World 5K. After an exciting run with fun for the whole family, earn a fetching medal featuring Mickey and his pal, Pluto.

Minnie 10k

Runners, rock those dots for a thrilling 6.2-mile run during the Walt Disney World 10K featuring hostess, Minnie Mouse. This year’s sparkly medal spotlights our favorite mouse couple together with the lanyard featuring Minnie’s signature white polka dots.

Donald Duck Half

Run, don’t waddle your way to the finish line during the Walt Disney World Half Marathon hosted by our beloved friend, Donald Duck. Enjoy a “quack”-tastic 13.1-mile course to earn this year’s medal featuring our feathered friend and his pal, Mickey Mouse.

Mickey Marathon

It’s a four-park celebration that’s been 25 years in the making as you end the weekend celebration with 26.2 magical miles during the Walt Disney World Marathon, with your host Mickey Mouse. This year’s spectacular medal design captures the excitement of the silver anniversary year while keeping true to the classic design elements of Mickey that have been featured throughout all the Marathon medals over the years. Don’t miss the fun spinning element in the middle of the medal!

Challenge

Our ‘Goofiest’ and ‘Dopiest’ participants, conquering either the Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge by completing both the Half Marathon and full Marathon or the Dopey Challenge by completing the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and full Marathon, can look forward to earning these medals full of character! This year’s Dopey Challenge medal also incorporates a nod to its 5th Anniversary. Those runners looking to rack up even more miles can set sail aboard Disney Cruise Line and participate in the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge on January 10, 2018. Combine any Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend race with the Castaway Cay 5K, a 3.1-mile adventure around Disney’s beautiful private island in the Bahamas, and earn this medal showcasing the spirit of running from parks to paradise!

Orlando’s Magical Dining Month Extended

Orlando’s Magical Dining Month was scheduled to end on October 1. However, with Hurricane Irma shutting several restaurants down in Orlando for several days, they have decided to extend it  11 more days to October 12 at most restaurants!

Orlando’s Magical Dining Month allows diners to take advantage of special prixe-fixe, three-course meals all for $35 per person. Each meal consists of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. One dollar from each meal purchased is being contributed to Freedom Ride and BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation.

This is the first year that Walt Disney World restaurants have participated in the event. The following are the restaurants on Disney Property that you can take advantage of the special offer:

  • Boatwright’s Dining Hall at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort
  • Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney to donate $1.5 million to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Walt Disney Company has announced a $1.5 million donation to continue to fund its scholarship program with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF). The Walt Disney Company Hispanic Scholarship Fund, which first was established in 2014 with a $1 million grant from Disney, is part of the Company’s longstanding efforts to support students from diverse backgrounds as they pursue their educational goals and dreams. In November of 2017, Disney will include such programs as the Media and Entertainment Summit which brings together HSF scholars interested in the media and entertainment business and industry professionals.

“Disney is proud to continue our support of Hispanic college students as they pursue their educational and professional dreams,” said Latondra Newton, senior vice president, Diversity and Inclusion, at The Walt Disney Company. “Through this scholarship and the new HSF Media and Entertainment Summit, we hope to make it possible for more students to reach their goals and become leaders in their fields, including in the media and entertainment industries.”

Current HSF Scholars in the Bay Area recently had an opportunity to tour Pixar Animation Studios’ Emeryville, California, headquarters and meet the filmmakers behind the studio’s upcoming film, Coco. Director Lee Unkrich, Co-Director Adrian Molina and Producer Darla K. Anderson welcomed them to the studio and shared an early look at film footage with them. The visit is one example of how Disney engages with students in addition to supporting the scholarship fund.

Since The Walt Disney Company-HSF Scholarship Fund was established, scholarships have been awarded to more than 200 high-achieving college students who attend schools across the U.S., including Columbia University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Southern California, the University of Texas at Austin and Vanderbilt University. The 2017 donation extends the scholarship and supports HSF’s mission to give its Scholars the tools they need to do well in their coursework, graduate, enter a profession, excel, help lead our nation going forward and mentor generations to come.

“We are grateful for the generous support of The Walt Disney Company and look forward to strengthening our partnership,” said HSF President and CEO Fidel A. Vargas. “While the financial commitment is extraordinary, we appreciate just as much the commitment of Disney employees who volunteer and support our students and families across the country.”

Mickey’s Boo-To-You Parade to Be Streamed Live This Friday

For those not able to make it to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this year, you’re in luck.  Disney announced today that they will be live streaming Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade this Friday (September 22nd.)

The #DisneyParksLIVE stream of  Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party will be available to view at the Disney Parks Blog website starting at 9:30 p.m. EST.

During this broadcast, you’ll get to see Grim Grinning Ghosts and a handful of much-loved Disney characters come out to socialize during this special Halloween-themed parade.  The parade starts with an ominous appearance by the Headless Horseman and includes many of the happy haunts that call the Haunted Mansion home including marching butlers, waltzing spirits, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, is an evening ticketed event taking place at Magic Kingdom on select evenings during September and October.  During the event, guests join some of their favorite Disney pals for an evening filled with trick-or-treating, costumes, tasty treats and fantastic themed stage shows, parades and fireworks. The dates are as follows:

September 22, 24, 26, 29

October 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27, 29, 31

November 1.

Tickets range in price from $69 – $115 depending on dates. Tickets are still available for party nights and can be purchased here.

Animal Kingdom’s latest Magic Shot will have you running for the safety of the Pride Lands! The new PhotoPass Magic Shot has you surrounded by the three hyenas Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, from Disney’s classic movie The Lion King. A photo opportunity with troublesome trio is available at select PhotoPass locations in Africa, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. Be sure to stop by the park soon, this Magic Shot is only available until November 2nd, 2017.

Doctor Strange Joins Disney Cruise Line’s Marvel Day at Sea

We have some exciting news for Marvel fans, an all-new interactive show featuring Doctor Strange is coming to the Disney Cruise Line for Marvel Day at Sea. Inside the Walt Disney Theatre, our youngest superheroes will get to discover the world of Mystic Arts. Prepare to be transported to The Sanctum Sanctorum to begin training, projections and special effects take you on this whirlwind journey off your cruise ship and into the home of Doctor Strange.

Similar to the Jedi Training in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park, children will be lead through training exercises by Master Students. They will learn how to cast spells and create portals to other worlds. All the training of Doctor Strange’s young apprentices will prepare them to face off in a battle against Dark Dimension. Upon completion of their training, and defeating the Dark Dimension, each new student will be awarded a certificate recognizing their training in the Mystic Arts.

You can experience Marvel Day at Sea during select seven or eight night Bahamian and Canada sailings from New York this Fall, or select five night Western Caribbean sailings from Miami in early 2018.
