Magic Kingdom’s Plaza Restaurant No Longer Serving Breakfast

Plaza Restaurant

Those looking for a good place to have breakfast at the Magic Kingdom will sadly need to strike the Plaza Restaurant off their list.  Updates to the menu of this Main Street eatery indicate that they will no longer be serving breakfast options.  Instead, the Plaza Restaurant will open daily from 11:00 am and will be serving up deli-style lunch and dinner options including sandwiches, burgers, fresh salads and desserts.

Plaza Restaurant

So what does this mean for fans of the sinfully decadent Doughnut Sundae? Take a deep breath, you’ll still be able to find them at the neighboring Plaza Ice Cream Parlor.

Bob Iger Announces He Will Step Down From Role as Walt Disney Company CEO in Mid 2019

Bob Iger Announces He Will Step Down From Role as Walt Disney Company CEO in Mid 2019

The Disney rumor mill has been abuzz for a while now that there would soon be a changing of the guard over at Walt Disney Company HQ and today Bob Iger, current CEO officially announced that he will step down from his role when his contract expires in mid-2019.

According to reports, Iger announced “This time I mean it” at a media event held by Vanity Fair on October 3rd in Los Angeles.  This comes hot on the heels of news earlier this year that Iger’s contract had been extended to 2019 with Orin C. Smith, lead independent director on Disney’s board having this to say: “Mr. Iger has led The Walt Disney Company to unprecedented success during his 11 years as CEO, driving Disney to new creative heights, expanding the Company’s global reach, fostering technological innovation, and delivering year-after-year of record financial results. During his tenure, Mr. Iger has created enormous value for shareholders, with total shareholder return of 448%, compared to 144% for the S&P 500, and a dramatic increase in the Company’s market capitalization to $177 billion from $46 billion.”

Iger has served served chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company since 2005 when a shareholder revolt ousted then sitting CEO Michael Eisner.

With Iger’s departure now imminent, much speculation has been made as to who will take over the helm with Ben Sherwood (who runs Disney’s media networks) as well as ESPN president John Skipper and Bob Chapek (who runs the company’s theme parks and resort operations) being touted as the frontrunners for the role.

As part of Iger’s contract, he has agreed to stay on as a consultant for three years after stepping down from his role.

Keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest in Disney news and updates.

“Coco” Soundtrack Gears Up for Its Debut

Coco

AVAILABLE NOVEMBER 10

COCO” SOUNDTRACK FEATURES ORIGINAL SONGS, A MEMORABLE SCORE AND TRADITIONAL MEXICAN SOUNDS

Grammy®-Winning Singers Miguel and Natalia Lafourcade to Perform End-Credit Version of “Coco” Signature Song “Remember Me”

BURBANK, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2017) – As Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” heads into theaters this Thanksgiving, the film’s soundtrack gears up for its debut. The film features an original score from Oscar®-winning composer Michael Giacchino, a song by Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco and co-director and screenwriter Adrian Molina. Also part of the team is musical consultant Camilo Lara of the music project Mexican Institute of Sound. Plus, Grammy®-Winning Singers Miguel and Natalia Lafourcade are teaming up to record the end-credit version of the signature song “Remember Me.” Set for release from Walt Disney Records on Nov. 10, the physical CD is now available for pre-order HERE.

“Coco” tells the story of 12-year-old Miguel, an aspiring musician who hopes to follow in his idol’s famous footsteps despite his family’s ban on music. “‘Coco’ has music in its DNA,” said director Lee Unkrich.

Score

“Coco” features an original score from composer Giacchino, who wrote the Oscar®-winning score for Disney•Pixar’s 2009 film “Up.” “When I saw ‘Coco,’ a mosaic of emotions came over me,” said Giacchino.” “It made me think about my family and my connections to relatives back in Italy. This film speaks to everyone.”

Giacchino worked with Franco, who composed the score for 2015’s “Dope,” to supervise the orchestrations and realize an engaging and specific sound. “She illuminated the complex richness of Mexican music so well,” said Giacchino. “The collaboration between all the musicians on this film has been a beautiful experience.”

Added Franco, “We really wanted to marry this idea of original music with elements of Mexican music to create a unique balance of sound, harmony and rhythm.”

Franco explored a wide array of Mexican instrumentation in the score, including a guitarrón, folkloric harp, a quijada, sousaphone, charchetas, jaranas, requintos, marimba, trumpets and violins.

The score was recorded in August featuring an 83-piece orchestra.

Source Music

“Coco” also features traditional Mexican songs as source music, to bring to life Miguel’s town of Santa Cecilia. “Even though music isn’t allowed in his home, Miguel finds inspiration in the musicians who perform in his hometown plaza,” says co-director/screenwriter Adrian Molina. “Santa Cecilia—home of superstar Ernesto de la Cruz—is so full of music, it inspires Miguel to want to be a musician.”

Franco and musical consultant Camilo Lara of the music project Mexican Institute of Sound were called on to help create the soundscape of Miguel’s world, along with the assistance of cultural consultants Benjamín Juárez Echenque and Marcela Davison Avilés. Lara joined the music team early, helping filmmakers navigate various moments from the film through the spectrum of Mexican music—from cumbia to mariachi music. Said Lara, “From day one, the whole idea was to be as authentic as possible. We listened to a lot of music—from sophisticated to street. I think we managed to present a beautiful mosaic of the vast diversity of our music.

“I was also responsible for a magical session in Mexico City,” continues Lara. “We recorded a wide range of top Mexican musicians of many genres—banda, marimba, mariachi and son jarocho. We had top Mexican maestros. It was a mind-blowing experience.”

Original Songs – “Remember Me”

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who were behind the Oscar®-winning song “Let it Go” in 2013’s “Frozen,” penned the thematic song “Remember Me,” which is the signature song for beloved performer Ernesto de la Cruz in the movie. “The song is from the point of view of a person hoping to be remembered by a loved one,” said Anderson-Lopez. “But the lyric can be interpreted a few different ways depending on the tempo and tone of the music.”

End Credit Version

Grammy®-winning singers Miguel and Natalia Lafourcade teamed up to record the end-credit version of “Remember Me,” which Miguel and Steve Mostyn produced. “The song is special because it is about family and remembering where we come from,” says Miguel, who won his first Grammy® for best R&B song for the lead single “Adorn” in 2013. “It’s a reminder to be appreciative of the love and sacrifice that those before us had to make in order for us to be who we are. I think the message in the song is powerful enough to connect with everyone, but we’re adding another layer of depth and soul to the emotion of the song in this version.”

Added eight-time Latin Grammy® winner Lafourcade, “I feel very excited to be part of a Pixar movie because I have loved those films ever since I was little. I really enjoyed singing a song that gives life, color and joy to our Mexican traditions, as the Day of the Dead is one of my favorite traditions and celebrations of our culture.”

Original Songs – “Un Poco Loco,” “Everyone Knows Juanita,” “The World Es Mi Familia,” “Proud Corazón”

Franco worked with Molina to write several songs, including “Un Poco Loco,” a song in the son jarocho style of Mexican music performed by Miguel and Héctor on stage in the Land of the Dead. “This is one of my favorite types of Mexican music,” says Franco. “It involves a mix of indigenous, African and Spanish musical elements.”

Among other songs are the aspirational “The World Es Mi Familia” and the tongue-in-cheek lullaby “Everyone Loves Juanita.” “Proud Corazón” was penned for the final scene in the movie. “The lyrics in this song are probably the most personal to me,” said Molina. “It’s about filling your heart with the pride you have for your family, where you come from and who you’re connected to. [It] speaks to this connection across generations—between the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead. Our thoughts, the memories in our hearts make it possible that our loved ones are always with us.”

The “Coco” soundtrack will be available from Walt Disney Records on Nov. 10. For more information on Walt Disney Records’ releases, check out Facebook.com/disneymusicTwitter.com/disneymusic andInstagram.com/disneymusic.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot’s Italian Pavilion

Tutto Italia

Last week I had the pleasure to attend a special lunch at Tutto Italia Ristorante in Epcot’s Italian Pavilion. The Disney Fashionista and I were able to meet Tiziano the wine sommelier of Tutto Italia, Tutto Gusto and Via Napoli.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Tiziano’s experience from the vine to the bottle was outstanding. He told us how he used to work at a vineyard back in Italy and the passion he shared for wine lead him to where he is today.

Follow along as we sip and nosh in this elegant Italian restaurant at Epcot’s World Showcase…

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Our meal started with a perfect pairing of prosciutto and prosecco, one of my favorite Italian wines. The saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the prosecco compliment one another so well. Our meal was off to a fabulous start…

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

So what goes best with wine & meat? Cheese of course!!! This fresh mozzarella was drizzled with olive oil and aged balsamic and literally melted in your mouth.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Here is a look at the Bosco del Merlo Prosecco. You can only get this in the Italian Pavilion so you need to drop by and have a glass if you are a fan of sweet whites like me.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Next course was a delicate Pumpkin Risotto with Shrimp paired flawlessly with one of Tiziano’s favorite wines, Soave Classico. To me, this course embodied the flavors of fall.

The pumpkin was sweet but not overpowering, the Soave Classico just enhanced the soft flavors of the risotto. I could eat this meal almost every day in the fall.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Here is a look at this lovely wine Tiziano paired with this dish…

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

So far Tiziano was batting a 1000, the wines he chose with the foods could not have been better.

For our next course of Chicken Scallopini, he chose a flavorful Chianti. While not a huge fan of red wines due to how strong and dry the wines can be this Chianti did not overpower the scallopini at all.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

This wine was not too dry and not too sweet, and like he said in our meal… You won’t find this wine at “Total Wine,” did I mention how funny he was as well 😉

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Our final course is one of my favorites…

Dessert!

We were given a sampling of all of the delicious desserts they serve at Tutto Italia. That tiramisu was to die for!!! Not only were all the desserts amazing, so was the wine.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

Tiziano chose a sweet spumante rose’ called Corbinello. Can I just say this was a perfect wine to end a perfect meal. If you like Rosa Regale Wine… Corbinello blows it out of the water. I think I had 3 glasses of this wine with my dessert.

After feeling not only full but a little light-headed Tiziano brought out a sample of 2 after dinner drinks my fellow Italians like to drink to finish a delicious meal.

Review: Lunch at Tutto Italia in Epcot's Italian Pavilion

On the left is the strong Grappa and on the right is the smooth Lemonchello liquors. Both are made for sipping after your meal, and for us we chatted with our sommelier on how much he loved Italy, wine, and of course his job. I mean who wouldn’t love to share your passion with others?

This meal was one of the best I ever had on Disney property. I normally will get a glass of wine with my entree and had no idea the right wine can enhance each course.

Tiziano was professional, funny, knowledgeable, and just a pleasure to talk to and get to know.

We actually ended up seeing him 2 more times over the weekend for various Food & Wine events. Him and the staff at all 3 restaurants in the Italian Pavilion were great and while I sit at home writing this stellar review I wish I was back there now enjoying the delicious food and marvelous wines.

I highly recommend dropping by Tutto Italia and noshing on the lunch we had. I can promise you won’t be disappointed, if you do tell Tiziano Chip and Michelle say Bonjourno!!!

Thanks to our hostess at Allied Integrated Marketing and the staff at Tutto Italia for an amazing afternoon we will never forget.

Ciao
