One of my family’s favorite things to do as the Holidays draw near is to celebrate by counting down the days! We love Advent calendars, chalkboard countdowns, but what we haven’t done yet is a story countdown! When I got the new Disney’s Countdown to Christmas: A Story a Day book from Disney, I instantly knew we were adding a new holiday tradition!

The highlight for any golfer playing Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course has to be the Mickey Mouse bunker on the par-3. In late August 2017, the team at Arnold Palmer Golf Management, which manages the four Walt Disney World Resort golf courses, updated and enhanced the one-of-a-kind Mickey-shaped sand bunker.

Over the years, the bunker has experienced periodic rebuilds, the most recent being in 2013. Climate and soil conditions can compromise the longevity of a bunker and result in loss of shape and sinking sand due to erosion. Which is why this year, the course has invested in a new construction method which will protect the famous bunker over the coming years.

Walt Disney World Golf Adding New Mickey Mouse Bunkers To Courses

In an effort to preserve its unique shape, the team used Capillary Concrete, which makes the sand conditions ideal for play, while also improving the lifespan of the bunker.

Disney Golf also has big plans to add more Mickey-shaped bunkers to the other three Walt Disney World Resort golf courses! They will be added to hole No. 8 on the Disney’s Palm Golf Course, No. 12 on Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course and No. 9 on Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course sometime next summer.

‘Big Hero 6 The Series’ Debuts With One-hour Television Movie

Baymax fans need to clear their schedule, Disney XD’s animated “Big Hero 6 The Series” is making its debut Monday, November 20 with a one-hour primetime television movie starting at 8:00 p.m. EST. “Baymax Returns” will be simultaneously cast on Disney XD and Disney Channel, and available on the DisneyNOW app and Disney XD VOD. Immediately following the TV movie, two special full-length preview episodes of “Big Hero 6 The Series” will debut exclusively on the DisneyNOW app and Disney XD VOD. “Pocket Baymax,” a customizable, interactive virtual assistant which brings Baymax to life, launches on DisneyNOW that same day.

Set in the fictional city of San Fransokyo, “Baymax Returns” explores the moment in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award®-winning feature film after Hiro believes that his compassionate, cutting-edge robot Baymax is lost in the portal forever and discovers the chip his brother Tadashi designed to create Baymax. 14-year-old tech genius Hiro begins school as the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology and sets off to rebuild Baymax, but his overconfidence and penchant for taking shortcuts leads him and the newly minted Big Hero 6 team – Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Go Go and Fred – into trouble.

The series, which will debut in early 2018 on Disney XD, continues the adventures and friendship of Hiro, Baymax and the Big Hero 6 team, picking up immediately following the events of the feature film. Beginning Friday, November 24, “Big Hero 6 The Series” shorts will roll out every Friday for six consecutive weeks on Disney XD, the DisneyNOW app and Disney XD YouTube. The TV movie, series and shorts will roll out through 2018 on Disney XD channels and Disney Channels worldwide.

Reprising their roles from the feature film are Maya Rudolph as Aunt Cass, Ryan Potter as Hiro, Scott Adsit as Baymax, Jamie Chung as Go Go, Alan Tudyk as Alistair Krei, Genesis Rodriguez as Honey Lemon, David Shaughnessy as Heathcliff and Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee as Fred’s dad. Also joining the main voice cast are Khary Payton as Wasabi and Brooks Wheelan as Fred. Recurring guest voice cast includes Jenifer Lewis as Professor Granville, Haley Tju as Karmi, Andrew Scott as Obake and Andy Richter as Globby.

Mark McCorkle, Bob Schooley and Nick Filippi, the team behind the Emmy Award®-winning global hit Disney Channel series “Kim Possible,” serve as executive producers. Filippi also serves as supervising director. “Big Hero 6 The Series” is a production of Disney Television Animation and carries a TV-Y7 FV parental guideline.

Disney World Guest Injury Report Released For The Third Quarter

The state of Florida has released the third quarter guest injury report for it’s theme parks, including Walt Disney World. The Disney World guest injury report shows that at least two people were injured when they fell entering rides and had fractures that lead to hospitalization according to the report that spans July, August and September of 2017.

Other incidents with injury at The Walt Disney World Resort from the third quarter include:

A 58-year old woman fell boarding a raft at Teamboat Springs, at Disney’s Blizzard Beach and fractured her back on September 26th.
Also at Blizzard Beach a 45-year old woman fractured her arm on the Downhill Double Dipper, a water slide at at Blizzard Beach on July 27th.
On September 27th a 48-year old woman fell boarding a ride vehicle at Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain, lost consciousness and fractured her leg.

Every quarter theme parks in Florida disclose any ride-related injuries or illness to the state that required an immediate hospitalization of more than 24 hours. This is part of a deal made by the theme parks to avoid state inspection.

Disney World Increases Law Enforcement Budget

Don’t be surprised if you spot more law enforcement members at Disney World. In the wake of recent domestic terror attacks, Walt Disney World is increasing their budget to hire even more Orange County Sheriff Deputies. Click Orlando is reporting the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the government agency that provides services to Walt Disney World, increased their budget for outside law enforcement to $15.8 million. This increase went into effect on October 1 which was also the beginning of the 2018 fiscal year.

For comparison sake, this increase is more than double that was allocated for same budget annually from 2011 through 2015. The budget each of those five years was $7 million. After the Pule nightclub attack in 2016, Reedy Creek increased their public safety budget to 13.7 million. Just a few months after that, an additional $1.4 million was added to the budget for hiring Orange County deputies.

Disney World does not disclose the exact amount of deputies patrolling Disney World property at any give time but with this increased budget, Guests are more than likely to notice them more frequently now. Armed Deputies might be spotted at park entrances, directly inside parks and resorts, or just patrolling the Disney World property in patrol cars and even unmarked cars.

In addition to the on-duty Orange County Sheriff Deputies, Reedy Creek will also be hiring additional off-duty deputies within a budget of $7 million. The Walt Disney Company also hires even additional off-duty deputies but that budget is not disclosed to the public.

While most are happy to see the increased security, others feel like it’s bringing reality into the one place you try to forgot aout your worries.

“It’s a little bit concerning that they think they need that much security. You’re walking around and you see the cops and wonder, ‘Why are there so many cops?'” said Geavin Channels, a frequent park-goer from Ocala, Florida. “It gives you that brief moment of anxiety.”

First Table Read of ABC's 'Roseanne' Revival

“Roseanne” iconic cast gathers for their first table read for the revival’s premiere episode entitled “Twenty Years to Life.” Returning to The ABC Television Network, the eight-episode reboot, featuring the original cast – Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) – will air in 2018. Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, will also appear in another role.

October 18 is the 29^th anniversary of the show’s original premiere on ABC in 1988.

Roseanne Barr is an executive producer, along with Sara Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Whitney Cummings and Tony Hernandez. The series is from Carsey-Werner Television.
