Movie Review: Marvel’s ‘THOR: RAGNAROK’ Delivers!

Movie Review: Marvel's 'THOR: RAGNAROK' Delivers!

In the story Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against me to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction on of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization on—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

Chris Hemsworth (“Rush,” “In the Heart of the Sea”) returns to the title role of the hammer-wielding hero of Asgard. He is joined by Golden Globe® winner Tom Hiddleston (“The Night Manager,” “Kong: Skull Island”) as Thor’s duplicitous adopted brother, Loki; two- me Oscar® winner Cate Blanche (“Blue Jasmine,” “Carol”) as the villainous Hela; Emmy® nominee and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (“Luther,” “Pacific Rim”) as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; Jeff Goldblum (“Jurassic Park,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel”) as the eccentric dictator, Grandmaster, ruler of Sakaar; Tessa Thompson (“Creed,” “Selma”) as the fierce warrior, Valkyrie; Karl Urban (“Star Trek” trilogy, “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King”) as Skurge, one of Asgard’s strongest warriors; three- me Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo (“Spotlight,” “The Kids Are All Right”), reprising his role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk from “The Avengers” and “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”; and Academy Award® winner Anthony Hopkins (“The Silence of the Lambs,” “Nixon” ) again portraying Odin, King of Asgard.

“Thor: Ragnarok,” the third installment of Marvel’s popular Norse Super Hero, is directed by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Taika Waititi. This movie was lighter than the previous two. It had more comedy and the music reminded me of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Overall it was a fun time at the movies. Marvel did it again by delivering a great addition to the MCU series.

Movie Review: Marvel's 'THOR: RAGNAROK' Delivers!

In 1962, the now-legendary duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced “The Mighty Thor” to readers of Marvel Comics, unleashing a new era of action-adventure with their concept on of the hammer-wielding Norse god, who debuted in the sci-fi anthology “Journey Into Mystery,” #83 in August of that year. Despite the Nordic-sounding names, the story was rooted in familiar, universal conflicts that have driven human drama since the beginning of me. To this day, 55 years later, Marvel Comics continues publishing new adventures depicting the God of Thunder, the most recent being 2016’s “The Unworthy Thor” from writer Jason Aaron and artist Olivier Coipel.

The newest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Thor” franchise, “Thor: Ragnarok,” continues the lineage of epic adventures chronicled in the franchise’s two prior big screen successes: 2011’s “Thor” and 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World,” which, collectively, earned over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Finding the new story to fuel Thor’s next exploits began with a look at the character’s history. As producer Kevin Feige explains, “Thor’s supporting characters, his villain roster and the family drama that comes between Loki and Odin really gives us some of the richest storylines with any of the Marvel characters.”

He adds, “With a third Thor adventure, we wanted to do something very, very different from ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ with new characters, new villains and new locations for this new adventure. We love surprising audiences with how the tone of a franchise can change.”

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

Kevin Feige is producing with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Eric Pearson and Craig Kyle & Christopher L. Yost wrote the screenplay.

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok” thunders into U.S. theaters on November 3, 2017.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Minnie Ears are a Must Have this Season

Ugly Christmas Sweater Minnie Ears

I love Minnie Ears! I love collecting them, especially the limited edition, seasonal, or just plain wild ones. Days of Christmas in Disney Springs knows the way to my heart with their newest seasonal addition this year! Yup, the ugly sweater trend has gone to the EARS, with Ugly Christmas Sweater Minnie Ears!

These adorable and fluffy ears resemble cheery red earmuffs made from faux fur. The band and the bow complete the old fashioned Christmas look with an ugly sweater print. The print has a “knitted” look to it with a pattern of plaid Mickeys, peppermint Minnies, evergreen trees, and varying snowflakes. You can get your own pair of traditional sweater ears at Days of Christmas in Disney Springs for $24.99. They may be tacky, but they are flying off the shelves as quick as Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve!

Would you wear these fun and funky new Ugly Christmas Sweater Minnie Ears this holiday season?

Permits Filed for Disney’s New Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Ride at Hollywood Studios

Permits Filed for Disney's New Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Ride at Hollywood Studios

Plans for Disney’s Star Wars expansion at Hollywood Studios are starting to take shape even further with the news that permits have been filed to begin work one of the land’s headlining attractions.

Two permits were filed for what insiders suspect is the new Battle Escape attraction. The building that will house the attraction is already near completion making ride construction the natural next step.

The first permit identifies structural, electrical and mechanical designers as key partners as well as contractors specializing in steelwork and plasterwork, indicating a focus on the internal elements of the attraction.  A second permit identifies contractors that will work on the architectural and scenic elements of the building’s facade.

According to a piece on WDWMagic.com, one of the companies identified in the second permit, The Nassal Company, has previously worked with Universal on The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman at Islands of Adventure as well as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Both permits expire the end of September 2019, providing fans with a pretty good indication on when we might see the new Star Wars land open to the public.

Walt Disney World has been in ongoing wage increase negotiations with six unions that represent most of their Cast Members. Now, several Cast Members have come together to show their strength in numbers at a rally being held tomorrow, Thursday, October 19.

While thousands of Cast Members work at Walt Disney World in Orlando, many of them are unable to find affordable housing in the area. Several have even been forced to live in low-rent motels behind Disney property or borrow money from friends and family just to get by.

Organizers of the rally state on the event’s Facebook page , “Disney workers need a raise! All Six Disney Unions representing 38,000 workers have come together to fight for an aggressive wage proposal. Many Cast Members need these raises, and every Cast Member deserves them but they won’t be handed to us. We need to fight and show Disney our strength! Join our fight for better wages at the Rally for a Raise on Oct 19th and if you’re a Cast Member sign up for negotiation updates by texting DisneyRaise to 877-877.”

The rally is scheduled to take place at 5 pm EST 5 pm in front of the Crossroads entrance to Disney at State Road 535 and Hotel Plaza Boulevard.

This guy is dedicated! A man in Ohio built a giant replica of an AT-AT walker on his front yard and it’s huge! It’s as tall as, if not taller than, the house itself.

Nick Meyer claims he isn’t even a big Star Wars fan and this replica was just a labor of love between him and some of his friends. Meyer said his friends would come over on the weekend just to “tinker on it.”

The AT-AT walker is made of wood, foam, and plastic barrels. Meyer stated he started gathering materials for the project back in April.

Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort Expansion Has Been Confirmed

Disney's Swan and Dolphin Resort Expansion Has Been Confirmed

The rumored Swan and Dolphin Resort expansion has been confirmed.  In an article in the Orlando Sentinel it was reported that a new Orlando office of the Miami-based construction management firm, Coastal Construction Group, will be handling major new projects in the area, including the Swan and Dolphin expansion. The Swan and Dolphin Resort recently underwent the largest transformation in their history.

Online sources are saying this will be a 350-room tower hotel that will be built in the location currently occupied by the Swan and Dolphin Tennis Courts. That will put this new hotel within easy walking distance of Disney’s Hollywood Studios via the existing path along the waterway.

While the construction of the resort has been confirmed, no official word has been released by the Swan and Dolphin regarding the expansion or what, exactly, it will entail.

We will update Chip & Co readers as more information is made available.

Disney Helps to Raise Butterfly Populations

Disney Helps to Raise Butterfly Populations

The Disney Conservation Fund is always helping to reverse the decline of butterflies through two unique programs, in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Thanks to the Connect to Protect initiative, their grant program has allowed guests visiting Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to participate in a mobile game and unlock a $100,000 contribution to help restore the coastal grassland habitat of the critically endangered Mission blue butterfly around the San Francisco Bay area.

Another way Disney is helping is by supporting the University of Florida’s McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity. Here, they breed the rare and beautiful Atala butterflies and reintroduce them to their native habitat along the east coast of Florida.

Once thought to be extinct, Atala butterflies lay their eggs on only one native plant – the Coontie plant, which has been over-harvested for food and ornamental purposes. In an effort to help bring the butterflies back from the brink, Disney’s Conservation Team has developed a simple system to help raise these rare native insects. Cast members, with the help of the Animal Husbandry team, use climate-controlled butterfly terrariums made completely of recycled, reused or repurposed materials to care for the animals as they undergo metamorphosis. The terrariums are kept on the cast members’ desks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where they can be tended to continually.

Disney Helps to Raise Butterfly Populations

“It always brightened my day to come in to the office and experience this unique connection to nature right on my desk,” said Liz Clark, general manager of Discovery Island at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “It was even better knowing that those butterflies then helped pollinate flowers on the coast and contributed to a larger butterfly population.”

When the butterflies emerge they are taken to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. There, resort guests can enjoy the magical experience of releasing the adult butterflies. So far, guests have released more than 650 butterflies at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, and hundreds more are planned to be released.

The conservation team has worked closely with Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and other communities in the area to be sure there are plenty of nectar plants for the butterflies to eat and pesticide-free Coontie plants for them to lay their eggs on. We are delighted by the success of this effort in growing the Atala population along the east coast.
