Fishin' Hole at Disney's Port Orleans Offers Inexpensive Fun for the Whole Family

Walt Disney World offers so many fun, inexpensive (a lot of times free!) recreational opportunities for those families and guests looking to take a day off from the parks to relax and unwind. The Fishin’ Hole at the Port Orleans Resorts is a great example (and guest favorite) of a low-key family fun activity!

This old-fashioned Fishin’ Hole is located at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside on Ol’ Man Island just behind the Muddy Rivers pool bar. It is open for guests to enjoy 7:00am until 1:45pm (last poles hired out at 1:15pm). The pond is stocked with catfish, blue gill, sunfish and bass.

The quaint fishin’ hole offers traditional cane pole fishing. You can bring your own pole, but in case yours didn’t fit into your suitcase, cane poles are available for rental (bait – worms and hot dogs – are provided). The cost for this activity is $6.39 per person for 30 minutes or $15.39 per family (up to 6 people) for 30 minutes.

All fishing at Disney is catch and release, so be sure to take plenty of photos for those stories told later about “the one that got away.”

Sleepy Newborns Transformed Into Disney Villains For A Halloween Photo Shoot

What’s one way to make even the scariest of Disney Villain’s seem sweet?

Just in time for Halloween, Babble, Disney’s parenting brand for millennial parents, transformed eight sleepy newborns into Disney villains from our favorite Disney films including Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, and Peter Pan.

The adorable photo shoot features a pint-sized Hook, a little Maleficent complete with a tiny spindle , and a dashing baby Gaston lounging in his tiny fur armchair!

Walking through Adventureland inside the Magic Kingdom it’s hard not to notice the large green walls lining the walkways. They stretch from the entrance all the way to the Adventureland Veranda.

Could Adventureland Veranda Construction Mean Moana Is Coming?

You can see, when viewing the structure from across the river, that tarps are up on the back of Skipper Canteen and more work is being done in the outside seating area. The river has also been damned up during this construction phase.

When talking with Cast Members in the area, they have no insights to share on why this work is being done. But after the popularity of Moana at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Adventureland it would make sense that Disney would be working on a permanent place for her Meet and Greet.

What’s great is that this used to be a Meet and Greet location. Does anyone remember Tinker Bell’s Magical Nook? It closed in 2014 when Tink moved to the Town Square Theater. Could Moana be the new tenant?

Another thought floating around is that this could be a future location to Magic Kingdom’s Club 33. Four Walt Disney World locations of this unique and very elite membership club were announced by Senior Vice President of Sales and Services, Claire Bilby to be arriving this Fall. The exact locations were not announced however so there is speculation on where they will pop up.

Of course nothing is official until Disney says it is!

If you’re lucky enough to be staying at the Contemporary Resort over the next few days or even if you’re just passing through, be sure to stop by the Contempo Cafe where they are serving up some delicious Halloween-inspired cupcake creations. Let’s take a closer look at each of the varieties on offer:

For those that prefer a good old vanilla cupcake try one of these festive Vanilla Mickey Mouse Pumpkin Cupcakes. The cupcakes come with a moist vanilla base and a frosting pumpkin complete with Mickey’s ears. It can be yours for $4.59 or 1 Snack Credit.

Or for those that can never have too much pumpkin spice in your life, these Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes come with a pumpkin spice flavored cake, vanilla icing and a candy pumpkin on top. Also for $4.59 or 1 Snack Credit.

Universal Files Plan to Build "Overflow" Parking Lot Near Orange County Convention Center

Universal has filed a plan with Orange County to get approval to build an “overflow” parking lot with 2,451 spaces. The vacant land runs along Destination Parkway near the Orange County Convention Center. SLRC Holdings LLC, a company affiliated with Universal bought the land in December 2015. The land was part of a 475-acre purchase north of Universal Boulevard and west of Destination Parkway.

The plan for parking spaces was drawn up by Donald W. McIntosh Associates engineering and planning firm in Winter Park. Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder said the company has nothing further to say about the parking spaces at this point.

Christmas Festivities at Disney Springs to Kick Off Starting November 10th

Disney announced today the Christmas Season will officially kick off at Disney Springs with sparkling holiday decor, unique gift giving, special seasonal treats and holiday entertainment beginning November 10th.

Disney’s downtown shopping district will once again be big on family fun with more than 150 locations to explore. There will also be strolling carolers, living statues, stilt walks and so much more. Here are just a few of the highlights that you’ll want to be sure not to miss.

Christmas Tree Trail

An Even Bigger Christmas Tree Trail – Back to dazzle us for another year, guests can take time out from their shopping to stroll along a bigger and better Christmas Tree Trail featuring 25 Disney-themed holiday trees. The highlight of this year’s trail will be the 10 new treas inspired by classics like Peter Pan, Snow White, Dumbo and Sleeping Beauty.

Santa’s Chalet – You don’t have to hit the theme parks to meet Santa. He will be accepting Christmas wish lists and meeting guests at his relocated chalet next to the Christmas Tree Trail. Coco isn’t the only animation coming to the big screen next month, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is a mini short, that will be premiering before Pixar’s latest animated feature. As Olaf journeys to find holiday traditions for his favorite pair of sisters, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure Merchandise is beginning to appear at Walt Disney World.

You’ll find everything from dolls, to cute plush toys, snow globes, and even apparel all inspired by the new Disney short. There are lots of cool grays, smokey blues, and soft maroon colors for the newest merchandise. That adorable little kitty cat is just begging me to take it home too!

Jingle Cruise Will Be Bringing the Holiday Hi-jinks Back To Disney World Beginning on November 2nd

With Halloween and the end of October just around the corner, it can only mean one thing. It’s time to start celebrating Christmas at Walt Disney World. What better way for Disney-goers to start ringing in the Yuletide Season than with the festive theming and the hilarious hi-jinks of the Skippers over at the Jungle Cruise which will get its Winter Jingle Cruise themed overlay starting next week.

A Magic Kingdom highlight during the Holiday Season, fans were worried that the Jingle Cruise might not return this year after Disneyland revealed that their version of the Jingle Cruise would not be part of this year’s West Coast Christmas festivities. However, visitors can now rejoice in the fact that Disney World’s Jingle Cruise will indeed be back for another year and will start spreading is holiday brand of humor beginning November 2nd.

The premise is that the Skippers, who were all feeling dreadfully homesick, decided to gussy up the queue, boathouse and stops along the riverbanks with decorations, gifts and other Christmas-themed goodies from back home. The end result will definitely bring a smile to your face. Guests can also expect the Skippers to add a few seasonal jokes into their repertoire.
Because of its popularity, lines for the Jingle Cruise can get pretty long so consider using a Fastpass to take part in the fun!Jingle Cruise has been bringing holiday magic to the theme parks since 2013 and is one of the first signs of Walt Disney World’s magical Winter transformation.
