Get ready for an adventure! Disney’s “Key to Disneyland” offers a special journey during the 70th Anniversary Celebration where you’ll unlock magical surprises and receive a commemorative keepsake. Your quest begins by purchasing a light-up souvenir key, which secretly holds one of nine collectible pins. To reveal your pin, you’ll need to explore Disneyland Park and successfully unlock the magic within each land.

The plastic key features a handle shaped like a large white and blue Disneyland “D.” Its central section displays multicolored icons representing Disneyland Park’s lands, illuminated by lights. The key’s tip showcases a silhouette of Sleeping Beauty Castle, and the Disneyland 70 logo is printed near the handle. Once activated, white lights along the sides gently pulse.

To engage in the “Key to Disneyland” experience, participants must locate nine distinct lock stations, one in each land of Disneyland Park. Upon finding a station, inserting the key triggers a unique sound and a sequence of flashing lights specific to that location.

The locations can be found here:

  • Disneyland Fire Station on Main Street, U.S.A.
  • Aladdin’s Lamp inside Adventureland Bazaar in Adventureland
  • New Orleans Square
  • Outside of Pooh Corner in Bayou Country
  • Across from Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
  • Wilderness Expeditions and Delivery Service Wagon in Frontierland
  • Across from Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin in Mickey’s Toontown
  • Fantasy Faire in Fantasyland
  • Near the exit of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland
pins

The grand finale of the “Key to Disneyland” adventure awaits guests back at the Mickey Topiary Finale lock station by the park entrance, after they’ve successfully located and interacted with all nine land-specific stations. Inserting the key into this final lock unlocks a miniature celebration, with playful bubbles rising from the topiary and lights dancing along the key. As a final reward, a compartment within the key’s handle will spring open, revealing one of nine special commemorative pins.

During the preview, all nine of these delightful pins were on display. Each pin takes the form of a blue Disneyland “D” adorned with classic black mouse ears. Below, a charming icon representing a different Disneyland land is featured, echoing the designs on the interactive key. These icons include beloved park elements like the Partners statue, a Haunted Mansion gargoyle, Pooh’s “Hunny” pot, Space Mountain, a Jungle Cruise boat, Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Millennium Falcon, Mickey’s House, and the iconic Mark Twain Riverboat.

Disney has stated that the commemorative pins obtained through the “Key to Disneyland” experience will be exclusive to participants and not sold separately. This interactive experience will be available only during the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, beginning on May 16th. Importantly, the key will retain individual guest progress, allowing the experience to be completed across multiple park visits.

Universal Orlando Resort Moving Designated Smoking Areas Closer to Exits Starting May 15

The designated in-park smoking locations at Universal Orlando Resort are being moved starting May 15th

Heads up, Universal fans—if you’re planning a smoke break during your next visit, you’ll need to head toward the exit. Universal Orlando Resort has announced that, effective Thursday, May 15, all in-park designated smoking areas will be relocated closer to park exits across its Florida properties, including Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, CityWalk, and even the upcoming Epic Universe.

List of Rides & Attractions Closed During Final Week of Epic Universe Previews

This operational update is being rolled out to enhance the guest and team member experience by improving flow through the parks and offering more convenient exit-adjacent smoking areas. Here’s where you’ll now find the designated smoking spots:

  • Universal Studios Florida: Outside the park exit, to the left near the Studio Archway
  • Universal Islands of Adventure: Outside the park exit, opposite the Islands of Adventure lighthouse
  • Universal CityWalk: To the left of Red Coconut Club
  • Universal Volcano Bay: At the Wave Village (East)
  • Universal Epic Universe: Near the park exit by the restrooms

A few key things to know:

  • These changes only apply to front-of-house (guest-facing) locations and do not impact team member backstage smoking areas.
  • Outside of these designated zones, Universal’s parks remain completely smoke-free. That includes both tobacco products and e-cigarettes/vapes.
  • Marijuana remains prohibited across all Universal Orlando Resort properties.
  • Volcano Bay will be the only park maintaining a smoking area inside the park, but that’s temporary. Once TapuTapu devices are phased out, the smoking policy there will align with the dry parks.

So if you’re planning a visit post-May 15 and hoping to light up, be ready to make your way toward the exit before you spark anything up. Universal’s goal with this move is to make the guest experience smoother—and the air just a little fresher for everyone.

A Whole New World—Indoors! Disney Theme Park Officially Coming to Abu Dhabi via Miral Group Partnership

It’s official—Disney magic is heading to the Middle East for the very first time, and it’s doing it in true UAE style: indoors, cutting-edge, and surrounded by luxury.

Miral Group CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi confirmed in a May 8th interview with The Business Breakfast on Dubai Eye 103.8 that the upcoming Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be a fully indoor theme park, developed and operated by Miral on Yas Island. That’s right, your favorite Disney characters will soon be enjoying air conditioning year-round—something we’re sure Elsa would approve of.

Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be an Indoor Theme Park According to Miral Group

This marks Disney’s first new park since Shanghai Disney Resort opened in 2016, and the seventh Disney theme park in the world. The news follows years of behind-the-scenes discussions and planning, and now it’s full steam ahead for what Miral promises will be “the most innovative, most advanced Disney theme park in the world.”

Inside Out (and Indoors)

While specifics like the exact location on Yas Island and an opening timeline are still under wraps, one major detail has been revealed: the entire park will be housed indoors, following the model of other Miral attractions like Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. The decision to build indoors isn’t just practical—it’s part of the UAE’s ongoing strategy to offer world-class, weather-proof tourism year-round.

Al Zaabi shared that the partnership will function similarly to Tokyo Disney Resort, where Disney handles the creative magic and Miral takes the reins on development and operations. “We’ve built trust over the last 15 years with properties like Ferrari World and Warner Bros.,” said Al Zaabi. “This is the crown jewel for Yas Island.”

Disney, Distinctly Emirati

Fans can expect the new park to be “authentically Disney, distinctly Emirati,” echoing Bob Iger’s description of Shanghai Disneyland as “authentically Disney, distinctly Chinese.” The Abu Dhabi park will blend Disney storytelling with Emirati culture and heritage, and even feature technology developed by local Abu Dhabi-based companies.

Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be an Indoor Theme Park According to Miral Group

A Disney Resort? You Bet.

Although he was tight-lipped on specifics, Al Zaabi did confirm the project will be a full resort, including multiple features beyond the park itself—think Disney-themed hotels, immersive dining, and perhaps even shopping experiences that would make Princess Jasmine swoon.

An Epic Location

Yas Island is already home to some of the biggest IP-based theme parks in the world—including Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, and the recently announced Harry Potter experience. With four major international airports within a 30-minute travel radius and a railway station on the island in the works, accessibility is a key selling point. The goal? Attract guests from a 500-million-person radius within a 4–6 hour flight of Abu Dhabi.

In 2023 alone, Yas Island welcomed 38 million visits, and that number is expected to surge with Disney joining the lineup.

The Future Looks Fantasmic

As part of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 tourism plan, the Disney project will contribute to a goal of 178,000 new tourism-related jobs and a massive boost to GDP—targeting AED 450 billion by 2031. The park’s development will also include upgraded infrastructure, utilities, and guest flow management to accommodate the expected crowds.

Though attractions and themed lands weren’t disclosed, Al Zaabi promised a high-tech park experience with state-of-the-art innovation, created in close collaboration with Disney’s global team and local tech partners.

A Dream Built to Last

“To us, this is a legacy project,” said Al Zaabi. “We’re not just building a theme park; we’re building memories, a cultural exchange, and a destination that will redefine tourism in the region.”

The House of Mouse is about to build a new home—under one very magical roof.

Disney and Dr. Phillips Center Bring Theater Magic to Central Florida Schools with Disney Musicals in Schools

The spotlight is shining a little brighter in Central Florida elementary schools this year, thanks to a magical collaboration between Walt Disney World and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. As part of the nationwide Disney Musicals in Schools initiative, this powerful partnership is providing local schools with the tools, training, and materials to launch sustainable theater programs—and give young students their first taste of stage stardom.

At Lake Gem Elementary in Pine Hills, students took center stage as a first-year participant, performing Disney’s The Aristocats KIDS on the grand stage at Dr. Phillips Center. Decked out in vibrant costumes made from donated materials courtesy of Walt Disney World, the performance was a purr-fect celebration of creativity, confidence, and community support.

Building the Next Generation of Storytellers

Tajiana Ancora-Brown, Walt Disney World’s Director of External Affairs, emphasized the deeper meaning behind the program:

“Here at Disney, we believe in the power of storytelling. Introducing arts education programs like this into elementary schools opens doors to new worlds and sparks creativity in future generations of storytellers right here in Central Florida.”

Through Disney Musicals in Schools, participating schools receive completely free performance rights, scripts, production materials, and even hands-on coaching to help teachers and students bring their first school musical to life. But the magic doesn’t stop there.

More Than Just a Show—A Lifelong Impact

Ryan Simpson, Director of Education at the Dr. Phillips Center, shared how theater can transform lives:

“By bringing theater to elementary schools, we’re reaching beyond our walls and giving young students a chance to explore creativity, build confidence and find their voice early on. It’s the kind of experience that can truly shape a lifetime.”

And Disney isn’t just contributing scripts and songs—they’re opening the vault. Literally.

Costumes, Creativity, and Conservation

Walt Disney World invited participating teachers to explore their “Costuming Vault,” allowing them to select materials and fabrics to help design student-made costumes and stage sets. This school year alone, Disney has donated over 6,000 pounds of materials to local schools—helping both the environment and educators. The reused materials stay out of landfills and get a second life through the imagination of young artists.

Lisa Mitchell, Disney Theatrical Group’s Director of Education and Audience Engagement, summed it up perfectly:

“This collaboration is a shining example of a community coming together to enrich the lives of children through the power of the arts.”

From fabric scraps to full-blown performances, Disney Musicals in Schools proves that with a little support—and a sprinkle of pixie dust—students can discover their voices, build lasting confidence, and maybe even dream up their own magical worlds on stage.

Josh D’Amaro Says Epic Universe Is No Threat—And That’s No Fantasy

It’s not every day that your biggest competitor drops an entirely new theme park practically in your backyard—but if you’re Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro, you don’t flinch, you dream bigger. Speaking at the MoffettNathanson Media, Internet & Communications Conference, D’Amaro brushed off concerns about Universal Orlando’s shiny new toy, Epic Universe, and even suggested it could help Walt Disney World, according to reporting by Variety.

“If something is built new in Central Florida, like Epic Universe,” he said, “that tourist is going to have to visit the Magic Kingdom.” In other words: more parks, more problems—for Universal. D’Amaro positioned Disney as always being on the offensive, investing long-term in every corner of its global portfolio.

List of Rides & Attractions Closed During Final Week of Epic Universe Previews

Epic Universe officially opens May 22, 2025, featuring five fully immersive lands including Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. It’s big. It’s bold. But D’Amaro isn’t sweating it.

Why? Because Disney’s playing a longer game—and a much larger one.

Big Dreams, Bigger Budgets

Disney’s already committed to a $60 billion investment into its Experiences division over the next decade. That’s nearly double what it spent the previous 10 years. According to D’Amaro, Disney is just getting started when it comes to storytelling in the parks: “We’ve only scratched the surface… there’s no Black Panther attraction, there’s no Coco attraction.”

The implication is clear: the vault of Disney stories remains wide open, and the Imagineers have their hard hats on.

Welcome to Abu Dhabi

As Universal’s Epic Universe prepares to take off in Florida, Disney is looking east—very east. Just last week, Disney announced it would open a brand-new theme park in Abu Dhabi, marking the company’s seventh theme park resort destination.

“This is a crossroads for the world,” D’Amaro said, noting that one-third of the global population lives within a four-hour flight of Abu Dhabi. The new resort, located on Yas Island, promises to be Disney’s “most advanced and interactive destination” yet. The project is being developed in partnership with Miral, who’s funding the buildout while Disney retains creative control.

Although no opening date has been announced, the scale and ambition of the project are clear. The Abu Dhabi park is poised to blend Disney magic with the UAE’s coastal culture and cutting-edge architecture.

Follow the Leader?

D’Amaro’s commanding presence at the conference—and his track record of success—has led many to speculate that he may be next in line for the CEO throne. With Bob Iger’s contract set to expire at the end of 2026, the board is expected to announce a successor early next year. D’Amaro, who’s been with the company since 1998 and has led both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, is high on the shortlist.

In short: while Epic Universe is prepping for launch, Disney is focused on expanding the galaxy. And whether it’s boosting local tourism or building global hubs, D’Amaro is steering the ship toward some seriously star-studded horizons.

Adding a touch of celebratory flair, the “Celebrate Happy” stickers are designed as eye-catching starbursts and sparkling diamonds. Notably, “Celebrate Happy” serves as both the official motto and the catchy theme song for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary.

Get ready to spot some celebratory stickers! The 70th anniversary overlay kicks off in the practice round of Toy Story Midway Mania!, where characters present targets clearly marked with the “70” logo. A new graphic reinforces the message to shoot these special stickers. As you journey through the various games, keep an eye out for “Celebrate Happy” stickers cleverly integrated into the animated environments, appearing stuck onto different targets. And for a chance at big points with an anniversary twist, any target worth “700” points now displays the “70” sticker instead of the “7” and first “0,” making them prime targets for celebration!

The 70th anniversary stickers are integrated throughout Toy Story Midway Mania!, with some “Celebrate Happy” stickers being obvious and others more hidden, adding a fun element of discovery. Despite maintaining their original themes, all the game scenes now feature these celebratory additions. Physical “Celebrate Happy” and “70” stickers are also present on the ride’s walls, though you’ll have to be quick to spot them amidst the spinning action. Notably, the 700-point targets in the final mineshaft scene now showcase the “70” sticker. To top off the celebration, the digital confetti has been updated to the 70th anniversary’s signature vibrant purple, blue, and yellow.

Are you looking forward to experiencing the ride with the new overlay?
