California Grill Celebrates Three Decades of Delicious Dishes and Stunning Views

Thirty years ago, a culinary star was born high above the Magic Kingdom. California Grill, perched on the 15th floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, opened its doors, ushering in a new era of signature dining at Walt Disney World. This iconic restaurant wasn’t just about a meal; it was about an experience – fresh, seasonal flavors, breathtaking panoramic views of Cinderella Castle and the Seven Seas Lagoon, and a then-novel open kitchen that offered a glimpse into the culinary magic. But as the years have unfolded, it’s become clear that the true secret ingredient to California Grill’s enduring success lies within its people.

Crafting a Legacy from Day One to Today

The opening of California Grill was no accident. It was the result of a carefully assembled team, united by a shared passion for creating something truly special. “That opening team was really special, everyone brought a different talent and was constantly learning from each other,” remembers Ray, a dedicated cast member who has been with California Grill since its very first night.

Ray’s passion extends beyond service; he’s also the creative mind behind one of California Grill’s most beloved cocktails, the Monterey – affectionately known as the “Ray Ray” by his regulars. This signature drink, featuring the refreshing flavors of vanilla and pineapple with house-made lemonade, will make a welcome return to the restaurant’s limited-time anniversary menu. “We’re surrounded by the freshest ingredients,” Ray explains, highlighting the restaurant’s long-standing commitment to excellence through locally and domestically sourced seasonal ingredients.

World Class Service Through the Years

For Dale, another opening-day server, his dedication is deeply intertwined with the purpose he finds in his role. “We’re a part of the Disney culture, and the world-class service we provide is something you don’t receive anywhere else,” he proudly states.

It’s this unwavering spirit of service that has allowed Dale and other long-tenured cast members to forge lasting connections with guests. Over the decades, the California Grill team has had the privilege of welcoming families who first visited with toddlers and now return with their grandchildren in tow.

Walter, another familiar face from opening day, echoes this sentiment. “Something special about Disney is that people come back and vacation year after year, and I’ve gotten to see families grow up in front of my eyes,” he shares. “I’ve seen kids when they were seven or eight years old, and now they’re 35, visiting with children of their own! I think that’s the real kicker; this place has been here 30 years, and it’s given us an opportunity to build strong, amazing relationships with a lot of families.”

These deeply personal connections, spanning decades, are the very essence of what continues to define California Grill. For many cast members, the memories they’ve created with guests are cherished moments in their own lives. Dale fondly recalls one such encounter: “Once, I waited on Roy E. Disney, Walt’s nephew. And after the fireworks, I went over to the table, and he was crying a little bit, and he said, ‘I’ll tell you, Dale, I’ve seen these a ton of times, and it still gets me’…and that’s my favorite memory of 30 years.”

Celebrating California Grill Since 1995

California Grill’s 30th anniversary is a celebration of a legacy built on excellence and the unwavering care of its passionate cast members. Since 1995, they have paved the way for a new generation of signature dining experiences at Walt Disney World, seamlessly blending bold flavors and innovative techniques to create truly memorable moments.

california

With every exquisite dish and each returning guest, the story of California Grill continues to be written by the very people who made it special from that very first night. Today, California Grill stands proudly among the diverse and exceptional dining offerings at Walt Disney World, from character-themed adventures to the newly Michelin-starred Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a testament to the ever-evolving and world-class culinary landscape that California Grill helped to shape.

Mysterious Walls Appear Between Mexico and Norway Pavilions in EPCOT

walls
walls

Something’s brewing in the World Showcase at EPCOT! Guests strolling between the vibrant Mexico Pavilion and the charming Norway Pavilion are now met with an unexpected sight: construction walls. These temporary barriers have sprung up along the pathway that connects the two lands, sparking curiosity and a bit of speculation among Disney fans.

walls

The walls begin their stretch right next to the popular Donald Duck meet-and-greet location. Adding to the intrigue, green scrim effectively blocks any clear view of the area where the walls meet the existing stone structure. This makes it nearly impossible for passersby to get a peek at what might be happening behind the scenes.

Related-Disney Files Construction Permit for Toy Story Mania in Hollywood Studios

The construction zone curves around the planters and the small seating area that usually offers a place for guests to rest and soak in the World Showcase ambiance. Interestingly, the familiar tall speaker posts remain visible behind the walls, indicating that the sound system for the area is still in place. The walls eventually conclude with more green scrim near the entrance to Anna and Elsa’s Royal Sommerhus in the Norway Pavilion.

As of now, Disney has remained tight-lipped, offering no official announcement regarding the purpose of this construction. This lack of information has naturally led to a flurry of guesses among parkgoers. Could it be related to further enhancements in the area, perhaps following the recent themed pavement work around the Mexico Pavilion? Or maybe it’s connected to the refurbishment that the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros underwent earlier this year, which saw refreshed scenes and lighting?

Adding a touch of Disney magic to the otherwise utilitarian construction walls are PPG Paints-branded signs. These cheerful additions feature beloved Disney characters alongside inspiring quotes, a small but welcome detail that adds a bit of color and charm to the temporary disruption.

walls

For now, the mysterious walls between Mexico and Norway serve as a visual puzzle for EPCOT visitors. As Disney keeps the details under wraps, guests will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on this corner of the World Showcase, eager to uncover what exciting changes or additions might be on the horizon. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available!

Sip Your Way Through the Galaxy with New Star Wars Starbucks Mugs!

Guess what just dropped? Seriously cool Starbucks mugs inspired by some of our fave planets! You can snag them for $24.99 each, which, let’s be honest, is a small price to pay for sipping your morning coffee with a little bit of the galaxy far, far away. You can find these bad boys at Hollywood Studios if you’re hitting up the parks, or just hop online to the Disney Store and add them to your cart. Easy peasy!

First up, we’ve got the Kashyyyk mug. This one’s like a mini-trip to Chewbacca’s home planet with every single drink. It’s got Chewie himself chilling with General Tarfful, plus you’ll spot a shyyyo bird, those awesome wroshyr trees, and even a Wookiee flyer. Seriously, it’s packed with all the good stuff that makes Kashyyyk so unique. They’re not wrong when they say it’d be wise to make this ceramic mug part of your day – who wouldn’t want to start their morning with a Wookiee vibe?

Then there’s the Tatooine mug. Now this one’s for all you who dream of exploring the Outer Reaches. This mug is a total shout-out to some of the most iconic (and maybe a little shady) residents of that desert planet. We’re talking Anakin Skywalker, Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, and a whole bunch of others. It’s part of the Discovery Series, so you know it’s got that collector’s feel. Plus, it holds a solid 14 ounces, which is plenty of room for all those epic saga memories you’re brewing up.

Last but not least, we’ve got the Geonosis mug. Now, Geonosis might be a bit of a rough place, but this mug is anything but! The design is loaded with some major players: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Mace Windu, and even Boba Fett makes another appearance. But wait, there’s more! You’ll also see some of the planet’s less friendly inhabitants like battle droids and those creepy creatures like the nexu, acklay, and reek. Even with all that going on, this ceramic mug is definitely going to be a welcome sight every time you reach for a drink.

So, which planet are you going to be sipping from first?

Okay, so you know how Disneyland is turning the big 7-0? Well, they’re dropping this seriously cool Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection to celebrate, and it’s all kinds of retro goodness. Think throwback vibes mixed with some seriously wearable stuff. Let’s dive into some of the highlights, shall we?

Related – Disneyland 70th Anniversary Nostalgia Collection: A Trip Down Memory Lane!

First up, the bomber jacket ($79.99). This thing is straight-up vintage cool in a tan color with these sporty white and tan stripes on the collar, cuffs, and bottom. It’s got two handy pockets in the front, and get this – the buttons have that same awesome “D” logo from way back when. Peeking out of that “D” on the chest? An embroidered Mickey holding a little yellow pennant. But the real showstopper is on the back: the old-school “Disneyland” logo embroidered right across the shoulders, hanging out next to a super cute yellow and navy drawing of Sleeping Beauty Castle. I’m picturing this with some jeans and sneakers for a chill, retro look.

Then there are the sweatshirts, both going for $69.99. The gray one is a classic heather gray with these navy, white, and red stripes that give it a real vintage athletic feel. It’s got an embroidered “Disneyland” patch right on the front, using that same iconic retro font you’d see on old ads and postcards. They even sewed in a special Vault Collection tag on the neck – nice touch! The yellow sweatshirt keeps it a bit simpler with the “Disneyland” wordmark in yellow under a silhouette of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Both are cozy and perfect for those cooler park evenings.

For your everyday Disney fix, they’ve got some cool tees. The white Mickey tee ($34.99) is a fun one with a wide-eyed Mickey illustration above the red retro “Disneyland” logo. And get this – Mickey’s got googly eyes! How cute is that? The blue Mickey ringer tee ($34.99) gives off serious classic vibes. It’s a heather blue with contrasting rings and features the retro “Disneyland 70” logo under Mickey. They’ve also got another ringer tee ($34.99) in white with red-orange rings. This one has a screen-printed scene of Sleeping Beauty Castle with fireworks on the front, plus embroidered Mickey and “Disneyland 70.” Flip it around, and you’ll find Mickey in the middle of a compass rose with all the Disneyland lands listed below him. Talk about a conversation starter!

Even the little ones can get in on the retro action with the blue youth sweatpants ($29.99). They’ve got a drawstring, pockets, and an embroidered Mickey popping out of that “D” on one leg. The cool “Disneyland 70” logo runs down the other leg in white.

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection

To top it all off (literally!), there’s a blue and white visor ($29.99) with the Disneyland wordmark on the band and Mickey printed on the brim. The strap in the back looks comfy and adjustable.

Now, for the accessories! The Loungefly bag ($90) is a must-have for any Disney fan. It’s got the Disneyland logo surrounded by adorable retro illustrations of Minnie, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. On the back, you’ll find a Disney Parks | Loungefly badge, another retro Mickey inside the “D,” and “Walt Disney’s Disneyland.” So cute! They’ve also got a packable reusable bag ($16.99) in blue that folds into a Mickey head carrying case – perfect for souvenirs! And for your feet, cream-colored socks ($17.99) with blue, yellow, and red stripes and an embroidered Mickey face.

Need to stay hydrated in style? Check out the Stanley-esque tumbler ($27.99). It’s mostly cream with an orange handle sporting the Disneyland Resort logo. One side has Mickey jumping out of the “D,” and the other shows Mickey with characters dressed for each land in front of the castle, with “Disneyland 70” below. It even comes with a yellow straw and a blue lid with a Mickey stopper.

For your home, they’ve got a super fun chenille pillow shaped like the Disneyland “D” ($39.99). And if you’re a stationery lover, the vintage ticket set ($19.99) comes in a booklet that looks like a “Welcome to Disneyland” guide, with characters from each land. Inside, you’ll find all sorts of sticky notes and notepads, including one that looks like a vintage ticket book!

Speaking of memories, the postcard book ($19.99) is packed with 12 retro Disneyland ad postcards. And for your tree (or just to display!), there’s a ticket book ornament ($34.99) that’s a dead ringer for the classic Disneyland ticket books. Seriously nostalgic!

And that’s not all! They’ve got a whole “Mickey and Maps” part of the Vault Collection too!

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection

The Disneyland Map Hoodie ($69.99) is a heather cream pullover with that retro “D” and “Disneyland 70” embroidered in navy. It’s even got a little Disneyland Resort tag on the side. But the back is where it’s at – a full retro map of Disneyland Park with “Disneyland 70” embroidered above it. So cool!

If you’re looking for something a little more dressed up, there’s a light blue and white button-down shirt ($64.99) with that same awesome retro Disneyland map all over it. It’s got a “Disneyland 70” patch on the chest. And for a matching look, there’s a skirt ($69.99) with the same map print and an elastic waistband.

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection

For cozy nights in, they’ve got a reversible throw blanket ($69.99). One side features the retro map art, and the other has a list of all the Disneyland lands. They even show you both sides on the tag, so you don’t have to unfold it in the store.

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection

Of course, you can’t have a Disney celebration without a Mickey plush ($39.99)! This one’s dressed in his tuxedo and holding a yellow “Disneyland 70” pennant.

Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection

And finally, for a bit of retro home decor, there’s a decorative plate ($39.99). It’s white with a muted blue center featuring the map art. It’s got the current Disneyland Resort logo at the top in gold and the retro “Disneyland 70” logo at the bottom. Just a heads up – this one’s for looking at only, not for eating! They even put a warning about it not being food-safe, dishwasher-safe, or microwave-safe. Safety first, folks!

So yeah, the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Vault Collection is looking pretty amazing. It’s got that perfect blend of nostalgia and wearable style. I’m definitely eyeing a few of these pieces. What about you? Anything catching your eye?

Now, the hoodie ($69.99) is where it’s at for all the sentimental folks out there. It’s a black zip-up, and get this, it has the iconic plaque quote from above the Main Street, U.S.A. entrance: “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.” Chills! M3GAN 2.0 – In theaters June 27, 2025

You’ve seen her kill it on the big screen, and from June 10–30, you might just see her in Universal Studios Florida. I’m not at liberty to share any more details. No, she isn’t standing over my shoulder while I type this.

Jaws (50th Anniversary)

Jaws Anniversary Merchandise

For the last half-century, “Jaws” has made children all over the world think twice before going in the pool. Or maybe that was just my experience. In Universal Studios Florida, you can celebrate 50 years of “swimmin’ with bow-legged women” in the San Francisco area of the theme park, which will be transformed to feel like the Amity of old. Snag limited-time food and beverage offerings along with a ton of exclusive merchandise, including the bucket hat and popcorn bucket that I am absolutely obsessed with.

Back to the Future (40th Anniversary)

Back to the Future Hoverboard

Time flies when you’re in a flying time machine! And believe it or not, it’s already been 40 years since “Back to the Future” premiered. We’re marking the occasion with tons of exclusive merchandise, including apparel, a snazzy license plate, and even a (non-flying) hoverboard (pouch). Biff, eat your heart out!

Over the past 15 years, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Orlando Resort has taken theme park immersion and thrills to the next level — and it all started in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade on June 18, 2010. Whether you want to join Harry and fly above the castle grounds in Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, fly deep into the wilds of the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, or grab your Second Generation Interactive Wand to cast some spells around Hogsmeade, there’s no wrong way to celebrate this anniversary. Plus, beginning in mid-June, you can take home a commemorative glass plaque commemorating 15 years of Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando Resort!
