As we reported earlier this month, Disneyland Resort reported that they will be replacing the tracks in Disneyland theme park used by the Main Street Vehicles. From posts shared by guests to Disneyland this morning, it looks like this project is well underway. Guests arriving at the theme park were greeted by construction walls encompassing a considerable part of Main Street.
Check out this tweet shared by a visitor to Disneyland today:
As you can see from @hastin, it would appear that the park has erected two different sections of walls along Disneyland’s main walkway to separate the visitors from the work being carried out. This includes the Town Square entrance of the park as well as surrounding the statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.
While sections of the Main Street U.S.A track have been replaced before, this is the first time a complete replacement has been scheduled. The refurbishment will incorporate new brickwork that will enhance the look of the iconic thoroughfare. The pieces of original track that remain will be salvaged and preserved. The previously updated pieces of track will be recycled.
There’s no word yet on a completion date. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest updates regarding this and other Disneyland refurbishments happening in the weeks and months ahead.

Bob Iger, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at The Walt Disney Company announced today that more than 125,000 employees will receive a one-time cash bonus of $1000. In addition, the Company will be investing $50 million in new and ongoing education programs designed to cover tuition costs for hourly employees. Both new initiatives are a result of the recently enacted tax reform.
Iger had this to say of the initiative, “I am proud we are directing approximately $125 million to our cast members and employees across the country and making higher education more accessible with the launch of this new program,” He went on to say. “I have always believed that education is the key to opportunity; it opens doors and creates new possibilities. Matched with the $1,000 cash bonus, these initiatives will have both an immediate and long-term positive impact.”
All full and part-time non-executive employees that are hourly or salaried and have been with the Company since January 1, 2018, and are based in the United States will be paid this one-time $1000 cash bonus. The bonus will be distributed in two payments. The first payment will be distributed in March and the second in September of this year. Disney advised that they will also be working with union representatives regarding potential distribution plans for employees that are currently working under existing contracts.
The new education initiative will be aimed at the Walt Disney Company’s hourly workforce. Nearly 88,000 hourly employees will be eligible for the program. Under the new plan, participants can pursue qualifying higher education or vocational training including courses that related to their current roles at Disney. By creating new opportunities for those wishing to continue their education, employees will have the ability to advance their current roles or support their long-term career goals. Disney announced that after the initial $50 million investment, Disney will provide up to $25 million in annual funding going forward.
Readers are encouraged to keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest news and updates regarding both of these exciting initiatives.

In an upcoming episode of ABC’s The Bachelor, viewers can expect Greater Fort Lauderdale to be featured! The newest Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr. will be surrounded not only by the remaining women but the beautiful sunny locations throughout Broward County. This episode is scheduled to air on Monday, January 29th, 2018 at 8/7c, on ABC.
“We are absolutely thrilled to share our cosmopolitan and vibrant destination,” said Stacy Ritter, president and CEO at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Thanks to the participation of our tourism community and partnership with the show, America will be taken on a romantic journey through the Venice of America.”
Six years ago, Arie Luyendyk Jr. was in love and a day away from proposing to the woman of his dreams. And then, she broke his heart. After a tearful exit on Emily Maynard’s (now Emily Maynard Johnson) season of ABC’s The Bachelorette, Arie stepped away from the spotlight of Bachelor Nation, retired from his career as an accomplished Formula 1 racer, and shifted gears to become a successful real estate broker in Scottsdale, Arizona. Even though he has been away from Bachelor Nation, America hasn’t forgotten Arie’s rugged good looks and charm. Now Arie, 36, is back and ready to race into America’s heart yet again when he returns for a second shot at love, starring in the 22nd season of ABC’s hit romance reality series The Bachelor, returning to ABC, Mondays 8:00 pm, ET/PT.

This evening at 7:27 pm my amazing father and best friend took his last journey home to heaven. I know he will be with my grandparents and safe with God. I’m thankful he is no longer in horrible pain. Thank you for all of your prayers #RonsLastJedipic.twitter.com/v04HkdNuF3
Villemaire had been diagnosed with stage four cancer earlier this year. His declining health prevented him from attending the movie premiere for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. His daughter sent out a call for help on social media with #RonsLastJedi which was answered with overwhelming support from the community.
The 69-year-old Air Force Veteran received a surprise visit from Darth Vader at his bedside at the facility where he is currently receiving care. “Ron Villemaire,” said Darth Vader. “You have been summoned by the Emperor.”
Villemaire then had first responders escort him to the movie theater. “Our role here is to make sure he is comfortable, and he is able to enjoy this experience,” New Boston Fire Chief Dan Macdonald said.
Once he arrived he was met by a crowd of Star Wars characters and a round of applause.
O’Neil’s Cinemas had donated theater time on the film’s opening weekend to Ron and his family so they could enjoy Star Wars: The Last Jedi together. Kelly O’Neil the theater owner said, “We’re also big Star Wars fans and we could help him. I think any time you can help someone you should.”
Ron Villemaire was thankful to all for such an amazing experience. “I hope God will bless each and every one of them just the way I feel blessed right now. He’s definitely with me right now,” he said. “It’s just unbelievable all these people are here and thank God for Star Wars fans!”
You can see the full video below:
Our sympathies go out to Mr. Villemaire’s friends and family during this difficult time.

It looks like the Mighty Ducks could be flying together again! And this time on the small screen.
Online sources are reporting that screenwriter Steven Brill, who wrote the original screenplay for “The Mighty Ducks” and it’s two sequels, and producer Jordan Kerner have created a new story about the ragtag youth hockey team – sounds familiar!
No script has been seen so it is not known if this would be a continuation of the film franchise or a complete redo. There is no word if we will get to see Emilio Estevez’s Gordon Bombay or any of “The Mighty Ducks” alums, including Joshua Jackson, Kenan Thompson and Elden Henson, reprise their roles.
The series is being developed by ABC Signature Studios, a production company under the Disney umbrella. The series does not have a network home at this point, although there is speculation that it will likely end up on a Disney-affiliated property.
While an animated version of “The Mighty Ducks” also premiered in 1996 and ran for 26 episodes, this would be the first live-action reboot for the small screen.
The film trilogy was so popular that when they were awarded an NHL expansion team for Anaheim in 1993, Disney named the team “the Mighty Ducks” and the players sported jerseys very similar to what we saw in the second film.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited that we might get a change to see the knucklepuck again!!

Even since the Disney Fox deal was announced at the end of last year, there have been questions as to how the Fox assets would fit in with Disney.
Thanks to a deal with between “Deadpool” star, Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and Fox, we may have just gotten our first clue!
According to Deadline, Fox has made a three-year first look deal with Reynolds’ Maximum Effort to create projects for the studio. And it looks like the first film that will be produced is a live-action feature based on the Hasboro board game, “Clue”.
Maximum Effort will produce alongside Allspark Pictures, the film division of Hasbro. As far as the writing goes, Fox is currently working to reunite Reynolds with the writers of the first “Deadpool” film, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Reynolds is set to star in the film.
A deal with Maximum Effort is huge for Fox as “Deadpool” is the studios highest grossing film since “AVATAR.” “Deadpool” brought in $783 million worldwide and made the film the highest grossing R-rated film of all time.
