The Details to Disneyland’s Lamplight Lounge are Beyond Magical

Lamplight Lounge

As we reported last week, Lamplight Lounge at Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure Park officially opened its doors to guests last weekend. The latest table service dining restaurant at the park celebrates the creativity, inspiration, and personalities of the artists that have brought our favorite Pixar stories to life. The details that went into bringing this restaurant to life are beyond magical with unique, special touches everywhere.

The Details to Disneyland's Lamplight Lounge are Beyond Magical

Take a look for yourself:

Lamplight Lounge was renovated from an old warehouse factory and features cool architectural elements such as concrete and exposes brick walls that reveal its storied past while creating an airy, bright, and eclectic ambiance. Anyone who visits the restaurant will be treated to a sprinkling of Pixar combined with California casual decor. The concept art, napkin sketches, knick-knacks, collectible toys, and various mementos “left behind” by the filmmakers are an extra special treat!

The Details to Disneyland's Lamplight Lounge are Beyond Magical

While visiting Lamplight Lounge, make sure to look “Up!” to see a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. the chandelier features sketch artwork and film quotes from Pixar films including “Coco,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” and more. The design features blank pages at the top, to represent one of the most difficult stages in the design process—starting with a blank slate—along with character artwork from artists in several Pixar departments.

Lamplight Lounge

As you venture downstairs, you will see a wall of t-shirts. Each t-shirt represents a little-known Pixar tradition during production. The t-shirts are examples of team shirts created during a film, celebrating accomplishments, inside jokes, or a certain department’s influence on a movie.

The Details to Disneyland's Lamplight Lounge are Beyond Magical

Several of the decorations you will see inside of Lamplight Lounge are inspired directly from the inside of Pixar Animation Studios’ campus where Pixar movies come to life. The dining room table inside the restaurant is a close replica of the “Cars”-themed table located in one of the Pixar conference rooms. Look close to the toys under many of the table tops and you will see die-cast toys inspired by “Cars” too!

The Details to Disneyland's Lamplight Lounge are Beyond Magical

Also from “Cars” above the “Cars” dining table, you will spot shelves of toys that have been pull straight from the Pixar archives. Below the toy shelves are examples of design comments and notes exchanged between Pixar and its toy manufacturing partners to ensure that the final product is as accurate as possible. Each toy goes through many rounds of notes in various forms, including drawings and creative reviews.

The details don’t end there! Visitors to Lamplight Lounge will discover film-related memorabilia along the art wall. Included is concept art, reference materials, props and physical renditions of artifacts from popular Pixar movies including “WALL-E,” “Toy Story,” and “Up!”

When will you be making your reservation for Lamplight Lounge?

Disneytoon Studios Closing Announced by Disney

Disneytoon Studios closing

Disney had confirmed the Disneytoon Studios closing.  This Glendale-based outfit was spearheaded by former Disney animation chief John Lasseter and will be shutting down.

“After much consideration, we have made the decision to end production activity and close Disneytoon Studios,” said a company spokesperson in a brief statement that was released.

Disneytoon Studios currently employs about 75 animators and staffers.  Those employees will be laid off, though some could transition to roles at Disney or Pixar.

Best known for the home entertainment franchise Disney Faries and the Planes franchise, the scale of the projects taken on by Disneytoon was more modest than the big-budget films we expect from Pixar and Disney Animation.

Pete Docter and Jennifer Lee officially replaced Lasseter as animation head this month. This came after a “sabbatical” in late 2017 that was the result of Lasseter admitting to a pattern of inappropriate conduct with employees.

Meredith Roberts had been the Disneytoon SVP and general manager since 2008.

Exploring Disney Cruise Line’s Newest Port Of Call Cartagena, Spain

Cartagena

This summer Disney Cruise Line is sailing to seven new ports in Europe. These fantastic destinations include Gothenburg and Nynashamn (Stockholm), Sweden; Toulon (Provence) and Brest, France; Cartagena, Spain; Fredericia, Denmark; and Belfast, Northern Ireland. Today I want to bring you more details about the relatively quiet and unspoiled town of Cartagena, Spain.

Check out these highlights:

Exploring Disney Cruise Line's Newest Port Of Call Cartagena, Spain

Roman Theatre

Reflecting the architecture that thrived between the 5th and 1st centuries, this spectacular theatre features Roman ruins and a museum of archaeological finds. Amazingly enough, this historical gem was hidden from the world until just 30 years ago!

Castillo de la Concepción

In the heart of the city, board a glass lift and ascend to the top of its highest hill. There, a medieval castle sits, overlooking the port, ruins and city, built on the site of a Roman temple. After years of changes made by conquering civilizations, the Castillo de Conception was turned into a medieval fortress when Spain reconquered Cartagena. It was in use until the end of the Spanish Civil War, when it functioned as a lookout for bombs. Now it is home to a museum chronicling Cartagena’s long maritime history.

Cala Cortina Beach

Located in a lovely cove, Cartagena’s sandy beach offers fun bars and restaurants as well as swimming, snorkeling and kids play areas. It is the perfect place for relaxation after you’ve met your daily step count goal roaming the city.

Exploring Disney Cruise Line's Newest Port Of Call Cartagena, Spain

There’s so much more to be discovered in Cartagena for guests sailing aboard the Disney Magic’s transatlantic voyage on May 12, 2019. Stay tuned for more in-depth looks at Disney Cruise Line’s newest European ports!

But, if you were at the right place during the right time yesterday in Disneyland Park, you may have been treated to this extra magical appearance!

Snow White was escorted with her Seven Dwarf friends yesterday at Disneyland Park from the Plaza Inn up Matterhorn Drive and all the way to Fantasyland Theater. Once Snow White and Co. made it to the area of the Fantasyland Theater, she even introduced all of the Seven Dwarfs to their awaiting fans.

Check out the video from the magical encounter here:

It is not known at this time if Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be making additional appearances at Disneyland but we will be sure to keep you posted if they do.

If you are looking to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it might be worth purchasing a ticket to this year’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party  held on select nights in August, September, and October at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. In the past, they whole crew has been known to make an exclusive appearance at this ticketed event!

New Concept Art and Details For Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Disney has just released some fun news today! We now have new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway concept art and more details to share. This new attraction coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be the first attraction based on our favorite mice where guests will step through the movie screen.

New Concept Art and Details For Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is based on Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts aired on the Disney Channel. Disney let us know that this attraction will literally put guests inside that cartoon world with Mickey and Minnie. You can expect the unexpected as no rules apply and where anything can happen and anything does.

New Concept Art and Details For Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

We also got a peek at the 2-foot long physical miniature train car model that will be apart of the attraction. “With Goofy as your train engineer what could possibly go wrong?”

New Concept Art and Details For Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

The ride experience is being called “2 1/2 D”, which means no glasses are required. Walt Disney Imagineer Kevin Rafferty said teams are inventing new technologies that turn the flat world of a colorful cartoon short into a “dimensional display of amazingness.”

New Concept Art and Details For Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

“This is one of the boldest…most impossible things I’ve ever worked on in almost 40 years of being an Imagineer. And you know what? That’s what I love about it. Well, that, and Mickey,” Kevin said. “This is not going to be a small attraction, it’s going to be game-changing.”

New Concept Art and Details For Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Disney animators will be in charge of the style of the Mickey and Minnie themed attraction and will include more hidden Mickey’s than any other ride.

Disney has announced that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will make its grand debut in 2019.
