Review: Morimoto Sakura Festival – Crooked Can Happy Hour!

Review: Morimoto Sakura Festival – Crooked Can Happy Hour!

We had so much fun getting to check out the Morimoto Sakura Festival kickoff by attending the Crooked Can Happy Hour! Morimoto Asia is adorned with the beautiful pink Cherry Blossoms of the Sakura tree, making it the perfect spot to snap a pic!

As we headed upstairs for the Crooked Can Happy Hour, we were greeted with the amazing scents of the Pan-Asian bites that accompany the delicious Morimoto-exclusive Crooked Can Sakura Kolsch. In an incredible partnership, Morimoto Asia has partnered with the amazing local Crooked Can brewery to bring us a delicate floral beer with the perfect spring flavor.

We were even able to meet with some of the Crooked Can crew to chat about the partnership with Morimoto Asia. As a local, I absolutely love that Morimoto partners with and supports this incredible local business! Side note: If you have an extra day in town, or are local, be sure to check out Crooked Can Brewery in Winter Garden for amazing brews, bites, live music, and a friendly place to hang out with your fur-babies (dogs are welcome at Crooked Can Brewery!).

Review: Morimoto Sakura Festival – Crooked Can Happy Hour!

Throughout our evening, we were able to experience the incredible Sakura Kolsch, a Mango Kolsch, and three various Kolsch cocktails including the Cherry Shandy, Sakura Spritz, and Tequila Lemonade Kolsch. So delicious!

In addition to the Kolsch collection, we were delighted with a variety of Pan-Asian bites, including an amazing Summer Spring Roll with shrimp, a delicious Chicken Satay with a scrumptious peanut sauce, Sticky Rice Balls with shrimp, a savory Pork Slider with a cherry blossom slaw, and the cutest Mochi with bean paste!

One of my favorite features of the Sakura Festival has to be the incredibly photogenic Cherry Blossom Martini! The prettiest shade of millennial pink, this cocktail is what Cherry Blossom dreams are made of! It tastes like a light, refreshing spring breeze, with the perfect floral balance of flavors. It has definitely made my list of favorite cocktails on Disney property!

The Morimoto Sakura Festival runs until April 15th. Will you be attending?

Could a Sequel To Disney’s Film Enchanted Be In The Pipeline?

Could a Sequel To Disney's Film Enchanted Be In The Pipeline?

The Walt Disney World movie Enchanted which was released in 2007, quickly became a cult-favorite with it’s comedic and musical tale of a Fairytale Princess named Giselle who leaves here animated storybook world behind for an adventure in modern Manhattan.  The film starred Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon.

For years rumors have been swirling about a possible sequel for this much-loved film and it now seems as if there is some movement in the pipeline.  Reports began to surface back in 2016, with the Hollywood Reporter claiming that Hairspray director Adam Shankman had been recruited for the project.

Inside sources say the new film will be dubbed Disenchanted and will take place a decade after the first film with Giselle questions her happily-ever-after life.  However, there has been little movement associated with the project which was supposed to start filming back in 2017.

However, in a recent interview with Collider regarding his work on Step Up: High Water, Shankman did take time to talk about the project, giving fans hope that we may yet see a sequel. During the interview which took place on March 7, 2018, Shankman said that a script was in the works and would be turned in very soon.  He also added,  “I’ve been in touch with Amy [Adams] and the cast, and everybody is really into it. We all love the story about everybody wondering what exactly defines happily ever after.”

Shankman goes on to argue that the delays in the project where partly due to regime changes over at the studio as well as projects that got greelighted before the sequel.

However, it would seem as if Disenchanted is still a work in progress and may still see a possible release.  If it does, Shankman promised that there will be more singing and dancing than there was in the first film with all original music.  He also suggested both Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz would be back at the musical helm.

This is definitely a project we’ll be watching closely here at Chip and Co. Readers are encouraged to keep following along for the latest updates.

‘The Science Behind Pixar’ An Interactive Exhibit Is Opening In Chicago

The Science Behind Pixar

Have you ever wondered how the artists and computer scientists brought your favorite Pixar films to life? The Science Behind Pixar is an interactive exhibition showcasing the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts behind “Toy Story,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Finding Nemo,” and more timeless Pixar films. This exciting new exhibit is opening at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) on May 24, 2018.

Guests of all ages can experience the filmmaking process through hands-on activities inspired by some of Pixar’s most treasured films, from the first-ever computer-animated feature film “Toy Story,” which opened over two decades ago, to Pixar’s 2015 release, “Inside Out.”

“Pixar’s pioneering technology sits at the intersection of art, engineering and science and shows that there are multiple paths to a STEM career,” said David Mosena, president and CEO of MSI. “As an institution dedicated to inspiring the inventive genius in everyone, we are excited to show guests the unexpected ways that the fundamental skills taught in science learning – problem solving, trial and error and iteration – are utilized to bring these beloved characters to life.”

Created by the Museum of Science, Boston and Pixar Animation Studios, The Science Behind Pixar features more than 40 interactive elements demonstrating the technology that supports the creativity and artistry of Pixar’s storytellers. The exhibit is divided into eight sections, each focusing on a step of filmmaking: Modeling, Rigging, Surfaces, Sets and Cameras, Animation, Simulation, Lighting, and Rendering. Each section provides guests with a behind-the-scenes look at the production process and the concepts used at Pixar every day:

Sets and Cameras: Guests will discover how a bugs-eye view was achieved for “A Bug’s Life,” through camera angles and large-set design within the computer.

  • Modeling: Envision how digital sculptures are created based on sketches from artists.
  • Lighting: Solve challenges similar to what Pixar artists faced in creating animated water in “Finding Nemo.”
  • Rigging: See how models are given a virtual skeleton to enable the animators to add movement.
  • Surfaces: Discover the techniques behind adding color and texture to every surface.

Guests will also have the opportunity to take their photo with human-size recreations of many of their favorite Pixar film characters, including Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL•E.

To better understand the science and math that goes into creating the worlds and characters of Pixar’s films, guests will hear first-hand from members of the studios’ production teams. They will also be invited to experience different roles within the production pipeline, through screen-based activities and physical interactive elements.

“The Science Behind Pixar is a behind-the-scenes look at how our movies are made,” said Ed Catmull, president of Pixar and Disney Animation Studios. “The interactive exhibition gives people the opportunity to learn about the jobs our filmmakers do every day and tackle similar problems. It’s a great demonstration of how much creativity and imagination is involved in the science, technology, engineering, art and math thinking essential to our filmmaking process.”

The Science Behind Pixar is sponsored locally by BMO Harris Bank and will be at MSI through January 6, 2019. It is not included in Museum Entry and requires an additional timed-entry ticket, $14 for adults and seniors and $11 for children.

“BMO Harris Bank proudly supports the Museum of Science and Industry in their mission to inspire and foster creativity among people of all ages,” said Christopher Begy, U.S. Country Head & CEO, BMO Financial Corp. and MSI trustee. “This interactive exhibition is a great example of what a career in STEM can look like and we’re thrilled to be sponsoring it.”
