The ‘Great Irish Hooley’ Returns to Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant

Raglan Road

For the 7th year in a row, the ‘Great Irish Hooley’ music festival is returning to Raglan Road Irish Pub in Disney Springs. This unique celebration of Irish song, dance, food, and drink kicks off Aug. 31-Sept. 3. With no cover charge, the ‘Great Irish Hooley‘ combines delicious food and drink with entertainment and fun!

With contemporary Irish cuisine, Irish craft beers, hand-crafted cocktails and day-into-night entertainment, the Great Irish Hooley promises a high-voltage music festival for all who drop by or reserve a table. The “Great Irish Hooley” promises for a “rollicking” good time, and headliners for this year’s festivities include:

  • JigJam — The multi-award-winning Irish quartet will bring their captivating brand of “CeltGrass” (a.k.a. I-Grass) – blending the best of traditional Irish music with Bluegrass and Americana. (Friday through Monday)
  • Lisa Canny Band – The outrageously talented Lisa Canny, 7-time All-Ireland champion on harp and banjo, is an emerging Irish force blending pop and hip-hop with traditional Irish rhythms. (Saturday through Monday)
  • Billow Wood – Known as Flat Out when they played Raglan Road in 2016, this male/female four-piece band fuses their unique brand of instrumentation with multi-vocals and harmonies for a blend of Irish and folk music. (Monday)

Of course, the Raglan Road Irish Dancers will be on-hand to show off and perform their iconic Irish dance moves throughout the “Great Irish Hooley”, as will champion Irish dancer and Raglan Road’s show choreographer, Ciaran Keating. During the weekend, Ciaran will host an event tracing the origins of Irish dance from the earliest jigs and reels, through contemporary times.

Aulani Resort Operates Under Normal Conditions As They Prepare for Hurricane Lane

Hurricane Lane

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is preparing for any effects from Hurricane Lane as it approaches. The island of Oahu is currently under a hurricane watch and can expect periods of rain, strong winds, and high surf beginning Thursday, August 23rd through Friday, August, 24. Aulani is currently operating under normal conditions.

If you have to ride out a hurricane, a Disney resort is probably the safest place you can be. I experience Hurricane Matthew back in 2016 when I was on vacation at Disney World. The Disney Cast Members are very helpful and accommodating during these times. Some of the resorts (the deluxe resorts where the resort room doors are on the inside) often have activities going on to entertain Guests. Other resorts, such as Coronado Springs where we were staying, has a curfew for Guests to abide by for safety reasons. But before the hurricane hits, the make sure Guests have their chance to load up on food, drinks, supplies, and activities for little ones while you ride it out. It was a really great experience to be here during a hurricane, and the parks only closed for 2 days.

Walt Disney World does have a Hurricane Policy. If the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area officially issues a Hurricane Warning within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, guests who call in advance are able to reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney World Travel Company vacation package.

There is an actual hurricane season – Florida’s Hurricane Season technically starts around the 1st of June and runs until the 3oth of November. Hurricanes can happen at any time, however, peak season (when there’s the greatest likelihood of a storm) is typically between the middle of August through the end of October.

Disney has only closed down a handful of times for hurricanes. If you find yourself traveling during these dates, don’t get in a panic. Walt Disney World’s location in Central Florida means that it is unlikely to feel the full brunt of a storm. Though Disney has closed a few times in the past due to Hurricanes, most notably Hurricane Matthew last October, Hurricane Jeanne and Frances in 2004 and Floyd in 1999, full park closures are pretty few and far between. Now that’s not to say that the weather can’t get downright nasty, but it probably won’t result in lengthy disruptions or massive cancellations.

Magical Dining Month Begins at Disney Springs

Magical Dining Month

Magical Dining Month begins tonight, Friday, August 24th, at Disney Springs! There are more than 100 Orlando area restaurants participating this year and best of all, 14 of them are at Walt Disney World in Disney Springs! What’s great is that through Visit Orlando, one dollar from every meal served during Magical Dining Month benefits local nonprofits that help children in need. Just ask your server for the “Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month” menu to enjoy a fantastic meal and help two amazing Florida based charities.

The program takes place every night from August 24 through September 30, 2018, during the restaurant’s normal dinner hours. Each restaurant features a 3-course prix fixe dinner at an amazing price of $35 per person (tax and gratuity not included). One dollar from each meal sold will benefit Best Buddies and Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida.

Below are the Disney World dining locations participating in this year’s Magical Dining Month. Clicking on the restaurant name will bring up their menu for the event.

The Rose Gold Minnie iPhone Wallet Shimmers and Shines

Rose Gold Minnie iPhone Wallet

When the Rose Gold Minnie Backpack from Loungefly debuted, many of us Disney style lovers were over the moon with excitement. There was even a matching wallet which I loved as well. If those items weren’t amazing enough, Loungefly has decided to give us yet another piece of this collection, with a Rose Gold Minnie iPhone Wallet.

The Rose Gold Minnie iPhone Wallet Shimmers and Shines

The new iPhone wallet has a spot for your phone, and cards. It is covered in gorgeous rose gold sequins just like the Backpack and Wallet, and topped off with a bow and Minnie Mouse ears. The beautiful Rose Gold Minnie iPhone Wallet retails for $34.99, and is available at select locations throughout Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. This is a great alternative to the regular wallet, if you like to switch your bags often, or if you just like to go minimal with a clutch now and then.

These of course match the Rose Gold Minnie Mouse Ear headband splendidly! I really hope we see more bags from Loungefly in the future that match popular Minnie Ears from the Disney Parks.
