European Cruises to the Enchanting New Port of Fredericia, Denmark

Denmark

The Disney Magic is returning to Northern Europe next summer and one special sailing will transport guests to storybook locales in and around Fredericia, Denmark, for the first time.

This fortified port town’s beautiful churches, old houses, and charming streets are set within historic 17th-century ramparts. Located in the center of the country, it also serves as an entry to other points of interest in Denmark. The surrounding areas are steeped in Viking history, and there’s even a special Disney connection nearby at the home of the renowned fairy-tale author who inspired many beloved Disney films.

Here are a few highlights you can enjoy in this enchanting port-of-call…

European Cruises to the Enchanting New Port of Fredericia, Denmark

Take in the views: Go for a stroll along Fredericia’s mighty city walls, the best-preserved ramparts in Northern Europe, where you can experience all of its charm up close. Then find a different perspective: You can climb to the top of White Water Tower for stunning panoramic views of the town, beach and surrounding hills and woods, or explore the exhibits and gardens at Fredericia Town Museum for a look at the city’s colorful past.

Soak up the sun: Swim, sunbathe, dine or enjoy a game of volleyball at Østerstrand, a pristine beach near the city center. Or make your way to Madsby Legepark, where you can enjoy a family picnic on the lovely greens — plus, kids will love the park’s playgrounds, activities, and summertime puppet shows.

Stop for a bite: Head to a café to sample local delicacies. Traditional Danish sausages, open-face sandwiches, rich potato dishes, pickled veggies, meatballs and cured fish are all worth a try. Top it all off with fresh ice cream or ostebord, a cheese plate served after a meal with wine, grapes, and crackers.

Venture beyond the port: Take advantage of the easy access to some of Denmark’s most famous historical sites …

Not far from Fredericia are the Jelling monuments — a fascinating collection of standing stones and burial mounds marking the site where Viking King Harald Bluetooth erected a rune stone to proclaim his achievements and christen Denmark more than 1,000 years ago. Marvel at these historic landmarks and discover the legacy of the Vikings at the impressive museum onsite.

A quick trip to Odense, the main city on the beautiful island of Funen, takes you to the birthplace of prolific Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, whose stories inspired many of your favorite Disney films like “The Little Mermaid” and “Frozen.” Here, you can visit Andersen’s home as well as various museums and activity centers that bring added meaning to his beloved fairy tales.

European Cruises to the Enchanting New Port of Fredericia, Denmark

Refurbishment Continues on Disneyland’s World of Color

World of Color

World of Color

Wolrd of Color at Disney California Adventure Park was originally scheduled to reopen from a refurbishment last month on June 22. Right before that date, we reported that the opening had been delayed as reports indicated that there has been extensive damage to the show’s platform.

As of today, it appears that the show’s platform is still under construction.

World of Color World of Coloe

If you remember, World of Color went dark about last Summer when construction began on Pixar Pier. As of now, we are still waiting to hear an official reopening date for the show.

The World of Color show―the most impressive and fanciful nighttime extravaganza Disney has ever produced―is accompanied by momentous music as well as stunning fire, fountain, fog and laser effects. As the show’s extraordinary elements are woven into a kaleidoscope of imagination, the spectacle sweeps and expands across Paradise Bay, while the astonishing soundtrack lifts your spirits, spanning decades of Disney movies―from the classics to the most recent releases.

Do you miss the World of Color show at Disney California Adventure?

Sneak Peek of New “UP” Wall in Disney California Adventure

Disney California Adventure

Disney California Adventure

If you visit a Disney Park and don’t take a picture in front of a themed wall, did you really even visit a Disney Park?! If that is your motto, then I have some exciting news to pass along. Earlier today, we introduced you to the Minnie-themed wall in Disneyland Park. I am now excited to share that there is an “UP”-themed wall coming to Disney California Adventure Park and it looks adorable!

The new “UP” wall is located in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure Park. It is located near the Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue ride and the Disney Visa Cardholder area. The new wall is also right next to another famous wall featuring Buzz Lightyear.

Here is a photo of Chip in front of the wall:

As you can see from the photos, the wall is still being finished but we hear that it might be opening as soon as tomorrow, Friday, July 20!

Do you have plans to visit Disney California Adventure? Take a photo with the new “UP” wall and share it with us!

‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Will Return with New Episodes

Disney's Streaming Service

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Were you one of the millions of fans who has been waiting for the return of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars?” If so, I have great news for you! It was just announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the show will be returning with 12 all-new-episodes. It was announced that the new episodes will premiere on Disney’s streaming service which is slated to debut in 2019.

“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” first aired in 2008 and became a cult classic for “Star Wars” fans everywhere. The show was created by George Lucas and highlighted fan-favorites such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala, and even introduced major new characters like Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. The show won multi Emmy awards and is required watching for “Star Wars” fans everywhere. Although a cartoon show, the plot lines and story arcs were compelling and truly drew viewers into the deep and mysterious mythos of “Star Wars,” which many say the prequel movies didn’t even accomplish.

But then, the show abruptly ended after just five seasons on Cartoon Network. There were a few “Lost Missions” released but they never provided a true series finale to provide closure for viewers. Until now!

Here is the trailer for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” that just debuted:

Are you excited for the return of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars?”

Former Festival of The Lion King Performer Files Discrimination Suit Against Disney

Festival of The Lion King Performer Files Discrimination Suit

A lawsuit has been filed against Disney Parks by a former performer in Festival of The Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park at The Walt Disney World Resort.

On July 9th Krista Crowder filed a lawsuit in Orange County Circuit Court against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Disney Worldwide Services.  The suit alleges that the company discriminated against Crowder as both a women and a mother and they unlawfully fired her after taking time off when she was pregnant with twins.

In August of 2011 Crowder began working for Disney Parks as a dancer and by January of 2013 she had been promoted to an equity performer. According to the lawsuit, she then began working as a harness and flight performer in May 2013 in the “Festival of The Lion King.”

In November of 2016, Crowder had to take a leave from work due to pregnancy.  She was not cleared to workout until September of 2016. The month before she was able to return, August 2016, she received a letter from Disney Parks terminating her employment.

“They were like, ‘Disregard it. It’s, it’s something that’s automatically sent out after you haven’t been in show in a while,'” Crowder said.

In October of 2016, when asking if the letter she had received was a mistake, Crowder’s former stage manager told her that she would need to audition again. However, that audition requirement was in violation of Disney Parks policy says the suit.  The only requirement should have been a costume fitting and rehearsal.

“They called me and said, ‘We need you to come in and audition,’ and that is not the protocol,” Crowder said.

Crowder states that she auditioned anyway.  Later she was called by a Disney manager and told she was being dropped because the stage “no longer needed (her).” She was told the decision had been made since she had been out 11 months.

According to Crowder’s attorney, she was off for close to a year because for seven months she was pregnant and the following two months she was medically not allowed to perform her job. The last two months of her leave, Crowder was retraining to return to work.

Crowder received another termination letter in November 2016,  and Disney Parks sent a letter with an official termination date of Sept. 2, 2017.

To her knowledge, Crowder said that Disney never allowed any mother to perform her position with the Animal Kingdom show.

In the suit, it is alleged that Crowder’s civil rights were disregarded by Disney and that her status as a mother was a contributing factor to her being let go.

Disney said the following in response to the lawsuit: “We have a longstanding policy against workplace discrimination and we will respond to the allegations, as appropriate, in court.”

“There was no thought in my mind that I would not be able to return,” Crowder said. “I would like it to become a place for women to be able to leave, have their babies, recover and get themselves back in shape and have their job without it being this crazy fight.”

Comcast Ends Bidding War with Disney for 21st Century Fox

21st Century Fox

Comcast has been in a bidding war with Disney to acquire the rights to 21st Century Fox. With the hopes of stopping Disney’s pending, stock-based $52.4 billion deal with Fox, Comcast made a higher, all-cash offer of approximately $65 billion. The assumption was that Comcast was waiting to see if AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner would be approved before making a formal offer to Fox. On June 12th the ruling came down in AT&T’s favor and probably played into Comcast’s decision to make the offer to Fox.

Today Comcast stated that they no longer “intend to pursue further the acquisition of the Twenty-First Century Fox assets and, instead, will focus on our recommended offer for Sky.”

Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO, Comcast Corporation, said, “I’d like to congratulate Bob Iger and the team at Disney and commend the Murdoch family and Fox for creating such a desirable and respected company.”

Fox Broadcasting, Fox News, and Fox Sports are not part of the agreement. The Disney and Fox merger calls for them to be spun off into a company called New Fox. This is also part of the Comcast deal. In the hopes of gaining favor over Disney, not only is Comcast offering the same $2.5 billion reverse breakup fee as Disney in the event that the deal is scuttled by regulators, it is going even further and offering to fund the $1.525 billion that Fox would owe Disney if it decides to abandon their deal.
