Candlelight Processional Narrator Speaks About New Disney Holiday Traditions With Family

Candlelight Processional Narrator Speaks About New Disney Holiday Traditions With Family

With Christmas comes one event at Walt Disney World that garners tremendous amounts of attention, the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. Whether it be the telling of the familiar Christmas story, boisterous choir, or the celebrity narrators…guests have delighted in the program’s ability to lift spirits and place one in a “holiday mood.” The impressive ensemble has been taking place for a while, not losing any of its luster with guests and fans.

Recently, singer and songwriter, Bart Millard acted as guest narrator for the show, and it was magical, to say the least. The Grammy-nominated singer of Contemporary Christian group MercyMe lives in central Florida. Although he is a huge fan of Walt Disney World, he’d never attended during the holidays until now!

As a self-proclaimed “Disney Fanatic,” it’s surprising to hear that Millard had never visited the parks or resorts during the holiday season. Needless to say, being part of the Candlelight Processional had an impact on him, as Disney Parks Blog was able to interview the singer and ask him about his experience as a guest narrator:

For those of you still looking to attend the Candlelight Processional, you only have a limited amount of time as the event will produce its final showing on December 30 for the 2018 season. However, if you can’t make it this year, absolutely make plans to attend in 2019. It’s absolutely one of the highlights of the Christmas season at Disney parks and will be sure to feature even more interesting guest narrators such as Bart in the future.

MAKE AT HOME: Disneyland Candy Cane Pots de Crème

Peppermint Pot de Creme recipe from Disneyland

Peppermint Pot de Creme recipe from Disneyland

Christmas is upon us and many of us are rushing to the grocery store to begin our holiday cooking. If you are still searching for the perfect dessert to wow your holiday guests, look no further!  Disneyland has shared one of its most indulgent festive sweets with us. At Disneyland, you can find this Milk Chocolate Candy Cane Pots de Crème dish at Winter Slingerland- one if the booths featured at California Adventure’s Festival of Holidays.

The recipe listed below serves six to eight people, and pairs wonderfully with biscotti and a late bottled vintage port wine (or if you are southern like me, a Muscadine wine also pairs nicely). And while this particular dessert is traditionally served in little “pots,” it can be also be served in a wine or martini glass.

Do keep in mind, This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version. However, having tried it myself I can vouch for how incredible it is!

CANDY CANE POTS DE CRÈME

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 teaspoon powdered unflavored gelatin
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup chopped milk chocolate or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract

GARNISHES

  • Whipped cream
  • Crushed peppermint candy
  • Chocolate peppermint bark

FOR CANDY CANE POTS DE CRÈME

  1. Stir together powdered gelatin and water in small bowl; let it sit while cream heats (gelatin will solidify).
  2. Heat heavy cream in medium saucepan over medium heat until steaming. Do not bring to a boil.
  3. Once cream begins to steam, add gelatin and stir to dissolve.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat together egg yolks and sugar until pale in color.
  5. While whisking continuously, drizzle 1/2 cup of hot cream into egg yolk mixture.
  6. Whisk remaining egg yolk mixture into hot cream. Turn heat to low.
  7. Continue cooking and stirring until mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon (155°F), about 3 to 4 minutes.
  8. Add chocolate to a large bowl and pour hot cream mixture over chocolate.
  9. Let sit for 1 to 2 minutes, then stir well (or carefully blend mixture in a blender or using a stick blender).
  10. Stir in peppermint extract.
  11. Strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
  12. Pour into 4-ounce serving cups and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

TO SERVE

  1. Once pots de crème are firm, use a pastry bag with a star tip to pipe a rosette of whipped cream on top (or dollop whipped cream on top).
  2. Just before serving, sprinkle with crushed peppermint candy and add peppermint bark on top of whipped cream.

Aunt Polly’s Lives Again

Aunt Polly's Lives Again

One of my favorite things to do at Magic Kingdom used to be to get an ice cold lemonade at Aunt Polly’s, find a rocking chair, and watch the world go by. When it closed I was saddened. My favorite way to take a timeout from the hectic pace of the crowds was gone. If this was a favorite retreat of yours, too, you’re in luck! For a very limited time, you’ll once again be able to enjoy the nostalgia of a bygone era at Aunt Polly’s!

The restaurant will reopen to guests at Tom Sawyer Island TOMORROW,  presumably as a way to alleviate congestion in the existing quick service restaurants during Magic Kingdoms busiest week of the year. The news isn’t all good though. Aunt Polly’s will only be open from 12/22-1/5. You’ll want to experience it while you can.

Many favorites from the restaurant’s heyday will be making a reappearance including:

  • Becky’s Buttery Biscuit BBQ Sliders with House-made Cajun Chips ($10.49)
  • Soft Pretzel Sticks with choice of Dipping Sauce ($8.99)
  • Mississippi Mud Brownie A La Mode ($5.79)
  • Barq’s Root Beer Float with Vanilla Ice Cream ($5.49)
  • Odwalla Lemonade & Sweet Tea Slush ($5.49)

Are you excited about this new quick service offering at Magic Kingdom? Are you like me and wish it would stick around forever? Let us know what you think in the comments

Disneynature’s Penguins Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

Disneynature's Penguins Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

Just in time for the first day of winter, Disney is giving us a peek at the poster for Disneynature’s “Penguins”! We can’t get over how cute these little guys are!

Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Penguins” is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after. These adorable little guys will open in theaters nationwide in time for Earth Day- April 17, 2019.P

Penguins” is the eighth theatrical release for Disneynature. The previous 7: “Earth,” “Oceans,” “African Cats,” “Chimpanzee,” “Bears,” “Monkey Kingdom” and “Born in China,” are seven of the top eight highest grossing feature-length nature films to date, with “Chimpanzee” garnering a record-breaking opening weekend for the genre. We don’t expect any less from “Penguins”!
