Disney Parks Removing Theme Park Smoking Areas and Limiting Stroller Sizes

If you are headed to the Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resorts later this year, you’ll want to take note of some new policies and procedures!

Smoking – Effective May 1, 2019

Smoking areas will no longer be present inside any of the Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks, water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex or Downtown Disney in California. You can find designated smoking sections outside each park entrance and also at Disney Springs in Florida. Smoking areas will also be designated at all Disney Resorts.

Strollers – Effective May 1, 2019

Strollers can no be no larger than 31” (79 cm) wide and 52” (132 cm) long. Most strollers, including jogging strollers, fit within these size restrictions.

Stroller Wagons – Effective May 1, 2019

Stroller wagons will no longer be permitted. If you don’t have a stroller at home, you can rent one on-site at the entrance of each theme park.

Loose Ice – Effective Today!

Guests can no longer have loose or dry ice in their coolers and cooler bags. Re-usable ice packs are allowed. You can also ask for complimentary cups of ice or water at Quick Service locations throughout the park.

Parking Lot Changes Happening at Epcot Now

Whether it’s from hosting the runners of runDisney races or simply the cars of guests headed into one of Epcot’s awesome festivals, the Epcot parking lot is an area that “wears many hats.” With all the new changes coming to the Walt Disney World Resort, Epcot’s parking lot is due for some changes as well to help accommodate some of the new excitement happening at the park.

Temporary cones and repainting on the Explore, Imagine, Create, and Amaze side of the lot is providing a new route for guests as they walk from the Epcot Parking Lot to the entrance. There’s evidence they are preparing for the big new change coming to the main entrance of Epcot. The changes do effect medical parking access a little, as well.

Disney recently shared their plans to relocate the Leave a Legacy monoliths and replace them with beautiful landscaping and planters, just after the park plaza entrance. Unfortunately, there has not been any notice of improvement to the tram and security screening guest areas with the plans for a new main entrance plaza at Epcot.

The First Poster for Star Wars Episode IX Surfaces Online.

It appears the first poster for Star Wars Episode IX has been leaked ahead of any formal release by Disney and Lucasfilm, and what is sure to be the big release of Star Wars related news at the Star Wars Celebration taking place in Chicago this April.

Reddit User: r/StarWarsLeaks leaked the poster online earlier today and fans are going wild with speculation, especially with the introduction of new characters such as the Knights of Ren, the Padawan’s that followed Kylo Ren after leaving Luke Skywalker to die. Take a look at the new poster!

The poster showcases fan favorites: Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo, C3-PO, BB-8, and Chewbacca, as well as some the new faces of the franchise.

The Worldwide Engineering Brigade Coming to Disneyland Resorts

The Avengers are setting up new Headquarters and training facilities around the globe to inspire all potential recruits to become something more. Head of this initiative is Tony Stark who has founded the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB) to develop and advance super-powered technology, including the new enhancements to Spider- Man’s suit! The new WEB will create new interfaces to empower the world’s most creative young inventors and bring them together.

Scot Drake, Creative Executive Marvel Global Portfolio, shares more details on this exciting new project.

Scot said, “Walt Disney Imagineering’s Global Marvel Portfolio is working closely with our partners across Studios and Entertainment to create exciting experiences and attractions where you can join fan-favourite Super Heroes at Disneyland Resort in California and Disneyland Paris”.

Scot said one of his favourite parts of his job is the ability to “collaborate with a diverse group of talented Imagineers” to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life that is “authentic to this iconic brand”. Walt Disney Imagineering strive to develop “new and innovative technologies” by telling new stories and creating experiences that allow “guests to play an active role alongside these extraordinary characters”.

Scot shared more details on a new immersive, interactive experience coming to both Disney California Adventure park at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney Studios park at Disneyland Paris.

Both parks will feature an exciting new attraction where guests of all ages can join the heroes in action. Imagineers are expanding the Marvel Universe “by creating a new organization, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, to be our setting for this experience”. “WEB will be focused around classic characters like Peter Parker, it is an organization that we can all be a part of – inviting guests to engage with these iconic heroes like never before”.

A brand-new, cutting-edge interactive attraction is also coming to the Parks, by combining never-before-seen technology and practical effects, to enable guests to experience what it is like to have Super-Hero abilities! Scot said, “this adventure will blend seamlessly into the story of the new lands we’re creating at both Disney California Adventure park and Walt Disney Studios park, where there will be surprises at every turn!”.

Scot also reflected that he is excited to see Spider-Man swinging through these lands in his new suit which you can see at Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris and soon to arrive at Disney California Adventure, with the possibility of other locations in the future. Disney is thrilled to partner with Ryan Meinerding, Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, to create this stunning new suit design.

According to Ryan, “It has been the highlight of my career to design all of Spider-Man’s suits for the most recent films. Bringing him to life through Tony Stark’s capable design aesthetic was a true joy, but working with the Walt Disney Imagineering team to develop a look for Spidey that reflects the innovation of a team of young geniuses really brings him to a new level. And knowing that park guests can get up close to that suit and really take in all the detail the astounding Imagineers packed into it means that we have truly brought a new version of the character to life.”

The Princess Bride Is Being Made Into A Musical

I grew up with the movie The Princess Bride and still love to watch it. Now I can share a new twist on the movie with my daughter. Disney Theatrical Productions is moving forward with their plans to make a stage adaptation of the novel and hit movie from 1987.

Disney Theatrical Productions confirmed that a new musical based on the novel is being worked on. An adaptation previously in the works fizzled out in 2007, but Disney is committed to bringing the story to life.

The Princess Bride follows a young farm boy, Wesley, as he tries to rescue his beloved Princess Buttercup from an awful prince that she’s set to marry. This family-friendly show is filled with comedy and adventure, and is sure to be a hit! There’s no word on a production timeline, but we will fill you in as we know more.

Disney is also working on a stage adaptation of Hercules which runs at the Public Theater’s Delacorte Theater August 31 – September 8.

Excited for the opening of Disney’s Riviera Resort later this year?

Disney’s Riviera Resort is accepting reservations and will open to guests this fall. The tower style resort will have multiple accommodation options to suit families of many different sizes including, studios and 1, 2, and 3- bedroom villas. Classified as a deluxe villa resort, Disney’s Rivera Resort is located next to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

The resort features amenities and recreation options in line with other deluxe resorts. The main pool area known as Riviera Pool will feature a splash area (S’il Vous Play), a winding waterslide, and of course a family-friendly pool. Those seeking a quieter pool experience will find the Beau Solei Pool to be a great option. In addition, guests who would like to keep up their gym routine may do so in the Athle’tique Fitness Center. The fitness center will have both weights and various fitness machines available.

Dining at Disney’s Riviera Resort will be quite a treat for your senses. Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera is a rooftop dining experience offering gorgeous sweeping views while diners enjoy selections of Italian and French Riviera flavors. This location will also host a character dining breakfast experience. La Petit Cafe’ will serve a selection of coffees, wine, and sweets in its main lobby location. Out at the pool, Bar Riva is available for lunchtime bites and cocktails. Finally, the quick service location Primo Piatto will offer tasty quick options to get guests off and on their way.

Disney’s Riviera Resort is a fantastic choice for business travelers as well as families. Guests will have the option of two transportation options, bus or gondola via Disney’s Skyliner. Business travelers will enjoy the close proximity to the convention center at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort next door.

Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando officially opened today, March 27, 2019! This highly interactive and immersive area will surely bring all the fun, laughter, and learning of Sesame Street to the Orlando theme park.

Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando is a 6-acre world-class attraction. It is the largest Sesame Street land inside of any of the SeaWorld parks and an exciting addition for the 50th-anniversary celebration of Sesame Street! As one would expect, the iconic Sesame Street neighborhood is featured in this new land. Guests can see Abby Cadabby’s Garden, Big Bird’s Nest, Mr. Hooper’s Store, and the famous 123 Stoop. Of course, everyone’s favorite Sesame Street friends, including Elmo, can be met here as well!

Sesame Street is an educational show and the new land continues with this tradition. Fun and learning are melded together through several educational and interactive experiences. Elmo’s Window allows guests to play, dance, and sing with everyone’s favorite furry red monster and his friends. Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck Challenge allows guests to create some delicious meals with Cookie Monster and Gonger by following video instructions.

A theme park would not be complete without the rides and Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando does not disappoint! There are 6 new colorful, themed attraction rides: Abby’s Flower Tower, Cookie Drop!, Slimey’s Slider, Big Bird’s Twirl ‘n’ Whirl, Elmo’s Choo Choo Train, and Super Grover’s Box Car Derby. There is even a wet play area named Rubber Duckie Water Works!

Daily entertainment in the Sesame Street neighborhood includes Storytime with Big Bird at his nest. Elmo, Big Bird and the rest of their friends can be seen daily along with colorful floats and special surprises during the award-winning Sesame Street Party Parade.

Eats on the Street features food trucks, as well as a specialty drink, stand to offer guests a variety of healthy choices and sweet treats during their visit to Sesame Street.

Souvenirs, such as plush characters, apparel, collectible pins, and more, can be purchased from Mr. Hooper’s Store. Hidden surprises, special effects, and exclusive content throughout Sesame Street at SeaWorld can be unlocked with Elmo’s Interactive Light-Up Bubble Wand. Meet and greets with our Sesame Street friends can be accessed at Photos with Elmo and Friends.

LEGO Movie World Grand Opening

This morning I attended the AWESOME grand opening celebration of the new LEGO Movie World at LEGOLAND Orlando.

This was my first trip to the park and it was a lot to take in. I was able to bring my family to enjoy the big day as well.

We started off the morning with a media exclusive performance by Emmet, Lucy, Benny and General Mayhem! Plus, a live performance from Alaya High, widely known as the 12-year-old hip hop artist That Girl Lay Lay and the freestyle rapper in “The Catchy Song” from the animated adventure sequel THE LEGO® MOVIE™ 2: The Second Part.

After the show we were brought into Bricksburg to walk around and see the new addition to the LEGOLAND Park. First up is Emmet’s Super Suite where you can meet Emmet, Lucy, and friends! Here you can line up to get your picture taken with them and tell them about your totally awesome brick building adventures.

What would a theme park be without shopping? In the “Awesome Shop with Super Cool Stuff” you can get shirts, bags, Legos, towels, and more to take home with you.

We got to be the first group to ever ride “Masters of Flight” which is very similar to Disney’s Sorin(but with a LEGO Movie twist). You start off this ride on Emmets triple decker couch and fly through an awesome adventure with Emmet steering the way. I get motion sickness very easily but was not bothered at all by this ride.

While you’re waiting in the line cue you can “build” your way through with LEGO bases all over the walls with bins of Legos to create works of art. This kept all three of my kids busy while we waited to get on the ride.

Unikittys Disco Drop is a mild ride that has 4 seats around a pillar that goes up and makes short drops and rises repeatedly as Unikitty makes faces at the guests below. It was not a fast ride and even the drops were mild. I’d say that most ages can enjoy this ride.

Unikitty’s face makes the change from happy, angry, and nauseous as the drops happen.

The new addition to LEGOLAND isn’t huge. It’s just three rides and some great photo opps and a store.

If you don’t mind getting VERY wet the “Battle IG Bricksburg” ride is for you. It is a boat ride with water cannons, water falls, and exterior cannons where riders can shoot the guests watching.

My kids came off the ride completely drenched! It was so cold that when they got off the ride we had to go into the human dryer and get blasted with some warm air!

Thank goodness for these otherwise it would have been non stop “I’m cold” all day long…

There are a ton of little photo spots inside LEGOLAND and inside LEGO Movie World there are even more! My kids had to get a shot with this raptor!

My son Hunter was being a little dramatic like his mother. Haha!

There is a three story spaceship playground here as well for little kids to keep busy on while older siblings are riding the bigger rides too!

We had a fantastic time here at the grand opening for Lego Movie World here at LEGOLAND Orlando! I strongly suggest you check it out for yourself.
