Lauren Ridloff To Star As First Deaf Superhero in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

Lauren Ridloff To Star As First Deaf Superhero in Marvel’s ‘Eternals‘. During Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios officially announced the lineup for Phase 4 of the MCU, including 6 new films, such as Marvel’s Eternals.

Best known as Miss Deaf America (2000-2002), Connie in AMC’s The Walking Dead, and her Tony-nominationed Broadway performance in Children of a Lesser God, Lauren Ridloff will star as the first deaf superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, also announced the official cast and director for Marvel’s Eternals.

  • Director: Chloe Zhao (The Rider)
  • Angelina Jolie (Thena)
  • Richard Madden (Icarus)
  • Kumail Nanjiani(Kingo)
  • Lauren Ridloff (Makkari)
  • Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos)
  • Salma Hayek(Ajak)
  • Lia McHugh (Sprite)
  • Don Lee (Gilgamesh)
Lauren Ridloff To Star As First Deaf Superhero in Marvel's 'Eternals'

“It’s about this group of incredible immortals but through their journey we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet,” Director Chloe Zhao said.

“The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens sent to Earth by the Celestials to protect humankind from the Deviants,” added Richard Madden. Ridloff signed to the audience that she is playing the first deaf character in the MCU.

Salem Hayek will be portraying Ajak, the leader of the Eternals. Though Ajak is traditionally a man in the comics, Marvel has decided to gender swap the role for the film. Hayek shared her excitement of playing the groups leader with the untraditional spin on the character. “I take my inspiration from our leader, Chloe, who’s also a strong woman and it takes a strong woman to do a movie like this because it’s so big and amazing and I’m so excited to be a part of it. The way she approaches leadership as a woman, as a strong woman, is that she sees them as a family. So there’s a lot of mother instincts in this Eternal, who is not supposed to have kids. So this is very exciting, and I feel very honored to be a part of a movie that is going to allow people who never felt represented in superheroes, or in this case Eternals, represented because I am proud to have a diverse family.”

Angelina Jolie who has been cast to play Thena, not Sersi as previously expected, shared her excitement as well with the fans at the SDCC Hall H panel, “I’m so excited to be here. I’m going to work 10 times harder because I think what it means to be a part of the MCU, what it means to be an Eternal, to be a part of this family, I know what we all need to do. We have all read the script. We have all know what the task ahead is and we are all going to be working very very hard. I’m training. I am thrilled. Thank you so much.”

In a wave of representation and inclusion for Marvel Studios in Phase 4, Lauren will portray Makkari, the first ever deaf superhero to star in the MCU. Feige also announced during the panel that another character in Eternals will be a member of the LGBTQ community, but neglected to name said character.

Marvel’s Eternals will premiere in theaters November 6, 2020. Are you excited for Marvel’s Eternals? What part of Phase 4 are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Marvel!

A new Tomorrowland unit brings The Incredibles and designer extraordinaire Edna Mode to “Mickey’s Boo to You Halloween Parade,” followed by Buzz Lightyear and Alien explorers discovering crystalline treasures on the surface of a planetary playset float.

Of course, no Halloween parade would be complete without candy. Wreck-It Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz and the girls from Sugar Rush make sure there’s plenty of sweet stuff to go around! Pirates sail in from Adventureland, Clarabelle Cow hosts a square dance during a Frontierland hoedown, and a wicked assortment of Disney Villains reigns over a Fantasyland-inspired grand finale.

Scarlet Witch To Play Big Role In Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness

Scarlet Witch To Play Big Role In Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness

Scarlet Witch To Play Big Role In Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, will be teaming up with Doctor Strange in the long awaited sequel coming in Phase 4 of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Returning director, Scott Derrickson, also teased that Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness will be the “first scary MCU film.”

As for what will take place during Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, it appears that despite the outcome of the multiverse theory in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the multiverse is still a possibility in the MCU and one of the focuses of the sequel to Doctor Strange.

Scarlet Witch To Play Big Role In Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness

“Just because Quentin Beck makes up lies about the multiverse doesn’t mean it isn’t real,” says director, Scott Derrickson.

More information was shared during Marvel Studios Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con. Even Benedict Cumberbatch gave the ever vague and mysterious answer to the question “What is in store for Doctor Stephen Strange?”

“He’ll be facing unexpected things. I think he’ll be in a position rather like the audience of not knowing what’s coming at him,” Cumberbatch said at the panel. “There was a lot of authority, I thought, in the Avengers iterations, so we’re going back to kind of destroy him, I think.”

Scarlet Witch To Play Big Role In Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness

At the end of Doctor Strange we saw Baron Mordo attempting to rid the world of those who wield their power from other dimensions. After no mention of the character during the panel at SDCC and until a formal cast list is compiled for the film, it is currently unknown if Mordo will make a reappearance in the sequel.

Elizabeth Olsen is also set to take on her own series with Paul Bettany’s, Vision, in WandaVision, coming to Disney Plus (Disney+) in Spring of 2021.

Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in theaters May 7, 2021.

Marvel Studios Announces Natalie Portman As Lady Thor in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Thor Chris Hemsworth

Marvel Studios Announces Natalie Portman As Lady Thor in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. During Marvel’s massive Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con International a ton of news about Phase 4 of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) was shared with the world, including the new title for the next Thor film as well as the first appearance of Lady Thor on the big screen.

As Director Taika Waititi shared the news about Thor: Love and Thunder fans grew louder and louder until the sound was deafening. What started with his formal announcement of returning to Marvel to direct the film, the return of Thor himself (Chris Hemsworth), and Tessa Thompson’s (Valkyrie) return as the first official LGBTQ represented superhero in the MCU, Taika also announced that Lady Thor would make her debut on the big screen and would be portrayed by returning Thor Star, Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) and fans were loving it.

Marvel Studios Announces Natalie Portman As Lady Thor in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'

Portman has been MIA from the MCU since Thor: The Dark World, and by using archived footage from the film, she made a brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame during Thor and Rocket’s time hop back to Asgard to get the Reality Infinity Stone. She will make her reappearance during Thor: Love and Thunder and how will she plan on doing so? We will have to wait to find out.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0K017RjJFT/?igshid=11yyodzkug2gq

Natalie expressed her excitement for this new venture via her Instagram with the caption: “So thrilled to share the news with you today at #sdcc2019 that I’ll be returning to the @marvel #mcu as female Thor with legends @taikawaititi @tessamaethompson and @chrishemsworth. (Remember this as the before picture for when I get jacked).”

One of the reasons Natalie (Jane Porter) has been missing from the MCU was some personal struggles while on set the first two Thor films.

“As an actor, it’s like a completely different scale. Because when you’re making those movies, you’re working with so much blue-screen and so much fantasy your imagination has to be so much larger. It’s really challenging for me,” Portman previously said to Deadline. “I don’t feel like I’ve gotten it yet. I don’t feel like I’ve understood it yet. And so, it is something I’m fascinated by because I’m really challenged by it more than anything almost. Because when you’re in a room that looks like a room and has all the things a room has in it, you can interact with all that stuff, and all that stuff does what it does in life. You don’t have to imagine anything. You’re just in the emotional state of your character. And when you’re doing those blue-screen movies, you have to imagine everything outside and within. You have to create the whole world. It’s like being a kid again.”

Marvel Studios Announces Natalie Portman As Lady Thor in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'

We think Natalie will do an excellent job and it will be rather interesting to see how they plan to incorporate Lady Thor into the MCU. One of the biggest questions is how much of the original comic book character will they use in the film since in the comics Jane is diagnosed with cancer and receives help from Asgard after her family passes away. She becomes worthy of wielding Mjolnir and every time she transforms into Lady Thor her cancer gets progressively worse. Marvel could incorporate this storyline or decide to go a whole different avenue.

What exactly will this mean for the future of the franchise? We will have to wait and see when Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters November 5, 2021.

Woman Banned from Disney World for Allegedly Punching Tower of Terror Cast Member

Woman Banned from Disney World for Allegedly Punching Tower of Terror Cast Member

A 23-year-old Chicago woman at Hollywood Studios who was upset that she didn’t have a Fast Pass for Disney’s Tower of Terror ended up punching a Cast Member in the face and began pressing buttons on the ride according to an Orange Country Sheriff’s Report.  The news was released on the Orlando Sentinel today but the incident happened back on July 13th.

The report states that the cast member didn’t press charges for the assault and even tried to help the 23-year-old get fast passes for the ride. The incident occurred in the area where guests are escorted to the library to see the ‘Twilight Zone’ introduction show and not on the ride itself.

Security was called after the scene started to escalate with family members taunting the Cast Member with profanities and recording the incident on their phones.

The girl attempted to flee but was later caught by Disney Security.

When the Orange Country Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene the cast members eye was swollen but she declined treatment.

Disney has issued a lifetime ban on the Chicago woman for the incident…

“We don’t tolerate unsafe behavior,” a Disney spokeswoman said when reached for comment.
