While everyone is vying for their own unique experience at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge, one group of girls got the upper hand. ‘Girls Who Code’ is a non-profit organization that works to attract more young women to a male-dominated field in technology by providing exclusive educational opportunities. This year, high school students in the summer program received a special invitation to look behind the scenes at the technology on Batuu.
Participants were able to hear from insiders at Disney and learn about the virtual queuing system that has set Galaxy’s Edge apart. They also got a peek into the Play Disney Parks app that becomes guests’ datapad upon entry to the Black Spire Outpost.
This was not the only special experience afforded to the group, however. This summer they’ve also been to Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development, Inc., Walt Disney Animation Studios and the Walt Disney Studios StudioLAB. Once again, they were able to listen to speakers from high places at Disney, such as Danielle Costa, Vice President of Visual Effects at Marvel Studios and Susan O’Day, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Technology and Chief Information Officer of The Walt Disney Company. They were then treated to a preview of the newly released “Toy Story 4” in a studio on The Walt Disney Studios Lot. Talk about a lot of behind-the-scenes fun!
When asked for their thoughts about the experience, students expressed great enthusiasm for the learning opportunity as well as the teamwork and friendships that were promoted during their time together. They not only had the chance to learn about technology but about other young women coming from all over the country. It definitely piqued interest and we should be prepared to see many more female faces in the future of computer science.
In the words of a young girl named Simone “It was cool to see how everything works. It made me think, ‘I want to do this when I grow up and get my career started,’” -Disney.

An enchanting new Beauty and The Beast Dooney and Bourke Collection has debuted as part of the Dream Big Princess series! This enchanting new collection features three silhouettes, including a large tote with a large splash design. This assortment is available at the Disney Parks, and online at shopDisney too!
The Dooney & Bourke wallet has an allover print inspired by Beauty and the Beast that features some of our favorite castle residents. It has a dozen card slots, an interior zip compartment, and a removable strap to convert the wallet into a wristlet.
The enchanting all over print continues with the Beauty and the Beast Crossbody Bag. This silhouette gives you a better view of the print, and comes with an adjustable strap. A leather hang tag that has Belle’s signature is also part of this gorgeous handbag.
The large shopper tote is fit for royalty. Like the previous Dream Big Princess collections, the tote features a splash graphic instead of a repeating print. This bag showcases Belle in her beloved yellow gown, as she waltzes through the iconic ballroom scene. The tote has multiple interior pockets, long top carry handles, and metal feet.
The enchanting Beauty and The Beast Dooney and Bourke Collection is available now at select retailers throughout the Disney Parks where designer styles are sold, and online at shopDisney.

Calling all travellers, are you ready to sip and savour the bountiful offerings of intergalactic food & beverage at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World? The new land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set to open on the 29th of August. Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu will greet guests with a variety of food and beverage options!
Thirsty travellers, this is the place to be at Oga’s Cantina! This notorious place serves as a hangout for locals, smugglers, bounty hunters, and the groovy droid, DJ R-3X! Here travellers will find a variety of speciality beverages with or without alcohol. For the fully-grown Jedi and bounty hunters out there, beverages with alcohol are served throughout the day. Thirst-quenching drinks such as Bloody Rancor made with vodka, chile liqueur, spicy Bloody Mary mix, and a rancor bone cookie. There’s more… in the afternoon and evening specialities include the Outer Rim featuring silver tequila, açai liqueur, lime juice, pure cane sugar, black salt, and exotic fruit purée. There’s also the Yub Nub made with pineapple rum, spiced rum, citrus juices, and passion fruit as well as my personal favourite, the Fuzzy Tauntaun. This fun drink comes with peach vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice with tangerine, pure cane sugar, and “buzz button tingling” foam.
Jedi-in-training and travellers of all ages can also enjoy an array of family-friendly concoctions like the Blue Bantha. Offered all day, this beverage features blue milk served chilled and topped with a bantha-inspired vanilla-butter sugar cookie. During the afternoon and evening, sip on concoctions like the Hyperdrive (Punch It!) with Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, white cranberry juice, black cherry purée, and Sprite or the Jabba Juice featuring Simply Orange with pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and blueberry popping pearls.
Exclusive to Walt Disney World, guests can try a new provision with alcohol: the Rodian Ration. This comes with vodka, sour apple liqueur, Sprite, and green apple popping pearls. Of course, there’s also a version without alcohol called Oga’s Obsession with Odwalla Lemonade, cotton candy flavour, and blue popping pearls. For snacking, you can order Batuu Bits – a trail mix featuring different seasonal crunchies and crispies that pair perfectly with any of the drinks on the menu!
Step into a working hangar bay to find Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs who has docked his food freighter, “Tugg’s Grub: A Traveling Diner for Diners Traveling,” right on the roof. Chef Strono is serving up a variety of dishes prepared with ingredients from across the galaxy. Rest your weary feet in the spacious hangar (or grab a table in the rustic outdoor seating area) and chow down on foods like the Felucian Garden Spread (plant-based “kefta” with herb hummus, tomato-cucumber relish, and pita) or the Yobshrimp Noodle Salad with chilled shrimp, marinated noodles, and seasonal vegetables.
To drink, try the speciality beverages without alcohol like the Moof Juice with Simply Fruit Punch, Simply Orange with pineapple, and chipotle-pineapple. Exclusively to Walt Disney World try the Takodana Quencher with dragon berry rum, blue curaçao, Simply Orange with pineapple, and kiwi.
And to satisfy your sweet tooth, indulge in the Batuu-bon featuring a chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse and coffee custard or the Oi-oi Puff – a raspberry cream puff with passion fruit mousse.
Stop by the Milk Stand to try Batuu’s legendary blue and green treats. Both the Blue Milk and the Green Milk feature a plant-based blend of coconut and rice milks and exclusively to Walt Disney World, the famous milks can even be ordered with alcohol! Sip on a Blue Milk Cooler with rum or a Green Milk Cooler with tequila! And don’t forget to order your Bubo Wumba Family Farms souvenir drink vessel.
Roasted to perfection by our pitmaster droid 8D-JB, the Ronto Wraps are a great grab-and-go bite served at Ronto Roasters. They come with roasted pork, grilled sausage, peppercorn sauce, and tangy slaw wrapped in a pita. You can also take a bite out of some Nuna Turkey Jerky, offered in sweet and spicy flavours.
To quench your thirst, you can try the non-alcoholic Tatooine Sunset with Gold Peak Unsweetened Tea, Odwalla Lemonade, melon, and blueberry. Or you can enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort exclusive specialty beverages with alcohol: Trandoshan Ale (a spiced wheat ale) or the Coruscant Cooler featuring Kentucky bourbon, cherry liqueur, fortified wine, cranberry, and lime juice.
Pop into this eclectic food stall (run by grain merchant Kat Saka) in the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace for a unique taste of Batuu. The Outpost Mix is a combination of sweet and savoury popcorn and is the perfect snack for the traveller on the go!
Get your spaceships ready, because you’ll be able to travel to Batuu in just one month! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World Resort opens August 29, 2019, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Then you would be able to savour and sip the food & beverage at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! If you want to take a look at the full menus for all of the locations, check out the DisneyBlog’s Foodie Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or visit any of the pages linked above! Red Rose Taverne is a cute restaurant overlay in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. This quick service restaurant has plenty to choose from for breakfast and lunch/dinner. Now, this quick service restaurant has added another item to their delicious menu, the Pepperoni Flatbread.
Red Rose Taverne is mainly known for is decor and ambiance overlay that concealed the original Pinocchio’s Village Haus. Village Haus served its fair share of burgers and other common eats. Then, this quick service dining area was born in the midst of all the promotion for the live action Beauty and the Beast.
With a new look and a new menu, this eatery became quite a hot spot for family dining at Disneyland Park. A couple of our favorites on the menu is the Garden Mozzarella Flatbread and, of course, the grey stuff! If you have a beast of an appetite, we recommend the Beast’s Forbidden Burger.
Now, instead of just mozzarella, you can try Red Rose Taverne’s new Pepperoni Flatbread. Pair this flatbread with a Gaston’s Famous Brew and you’ve got yourself an enchanted meal!
What’s your favorite meal on the menus at the Red Rose Taverne? Let us know in the comments!
