Disney+ Limited-Time Discount Causes D23 Website to Crash

Disney+ Limited-Time Discount Causes D23 Website to Crash. As of yesterday, Disney extended their 2019 D23 Expo special discount for all members (General, Gold, and Gold Family) of D23 , the official Disney fan club, via email and the D23.com website.

Due to popular demand and to access this exclusive and limited time offer, Disney Fans have flocked to their phones and computers to be among the first to sign up for a 3-year subscription for Disney+ at an incredible rate! Only the response has been so great the D23 website has crashed as a result of the higher than usual volume of traffic of folks hoping to join the fan club before it’s too late.

Disney is hoping to have the website back up and running soon so fans can take advantage of both this offer and be some of the first to hear exclusive news about Disney Entertainment, Disney Parks, and Special Events by Disney from D23. If you are hoping to become a member of D23 and get access to this special offer we recommend checking back regularly and to pardon the pixie dust while Disney works on the site. Some folks are reporting the site is back up and running, while others are still reporting outages at the time of writing this article.

Monsters at Work (Disney+ Series)

Recap of Pixar Announcements from the D23 Expo

“Monsters At Work” stars Ben Feldman and Aisha Tyler unveiled the latest design of their characters Tylor and Millie. Inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning feature film “Monsters, Inc.,” the new series from Disney Television Animation returns to Monstropolis and follows a new cast of monsters with special appearances from Mike and Sulley (voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman).

Soul (Featured Film)

Recap of Pixar Announcements from the D23 Expo

Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter guided the audience through Pixar’s upcoming film slate of originals. Docter began with next summer’s release, Soul, which he directs. The film journeys from the streets of New York City to the never-before-seen cosmic realms and “The You Seminar,” the fantastical place where we all discover our unique personalities. Producer Dana Murray, co-director/writer Kemp Powers and writer Mike Jones joined Docter on stage, and together they set up the film for the audience and shared a sneak peek. The team revealed members of the voice cast who joined them on stage, including Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs, Tina Fey and Jamie Foxx. Foxx lends his voice to Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz. Fey plays 22, a soul-in-training who has an unexpected encounter with Joe when he accidentally finds his way to the “You Seminar.” Together, the two are going to find a way to get Joe back to Earth, making him think again about what it truly means to have soul. Filmmakers also revealed that globally renowned musician Jon Batiste will be writing original jazz music for the film, and Oscar®-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (“The Social Network”), from Nine Inch Nails, will compose an original score that will drift between the real and soul worlds. Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” opens in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2020.

Elsa Will Not Have a Love Interest in “Frozen 2”

Elsa Will Not Have a Love Interested in "Frozen 2"

Elsa will not have a love interest in “Frozen 2”.

Ever since the release of the original “Frozen” in 2013, fans have speculated that Elsa will have a love interest in future films. It looks like this theory has been shut down for good.

The conversation of a love interest for Elsa has grown with the upcoming theatrical release of “Frozen 2”. Co-director, Jennifer Lee, recently admitted that she and the creative team are aware of this speculation by fans everywhere.

Songwriters for the film, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, recently released a statement at the D23 Expo this past weekend. They have confirmed that the sequel to the beloved movie will not include a love interested for Elsa, nor will it even address the topic.

Here’s what they had to say:

“Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest. That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time. What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven’t been found before?”

“Frozen 2” will instead have more to do with Anna and Elsa’s search for their parents. The film will also highlight how Elsa obtained her powers, how they can be tamed, and what their purpose is. Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez also shared more about the storyline of the sequel. They hinted by saying, “We’ve gone deeper into [Anna and Elsa’s] heads; we know their parents a lot better.”

Disney Cruise Line Reveals Plans for New Island Destination in the Bahamas

Disney Cruise Line Lighthouse Point

Ready for your Disney Cruise yet? If the answer is no, you may want to take a look at plans recently unveiled at the D23 Expo for a second destination in the Bahamas known as Lighthouse Point. The location is on an island called Eleuthera and Disney plans to celebrate the culture and natural environment of the area by keeping things Bahamian.

An Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Plan must be accepted by the Bahamian government before any construction can begin. The hope is that plans will be accepted in 2020 with final completion occurring in 2022 or 2023. Disney Cruise Line is committed to developing no more than 20 percent of the land they acquire while using sustainable building practices and having environmental monitoring programs in place as they build. The focus will truly be on retaining the integrity of the land itself. Plans also include donating at least 190 acres of their private property to the Bahamian government.

The Disney Cruise Line has employed Joe Rohde, a Walt Disney Imagineer who is known for his work in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Aulani Disney Resort and Spa in Hawaii, to explore Bahamian culture and come up with a design that celebrates the tradition and culture of the islands. He has spent time exploring the arts and cultural sites of the islands in an attempt to capture their unique feel. He is working alongside Bahamian artists Kevin Cooper and Antonius Roberts to create a tropical paradise that is true to its roots at Lighthouse Point. Watch him explain how he was inspired in this project down below.

The Disney Conservation Fund has been a supporter of marine life and conservation for many years, providing over $13 million around the world (including the Bahamas!) to sustain our ocean life. They have specifically been working to rehabilitate and protect the coral reefs in the Bahamas since 2007, and plan to continue leading those initiatives in the coming years.

This tropical paradise will celebrate its heritage and inspire visitors with its beauty. Whether you’ve been on a Disney Cruise before or not, it sounds like the time has come to set sail! Lighthouse Point, here we come!

Star Wars Spirit Jersey Blasts In From A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars Spirit Jersey

Star Wars Spirit Jersey Blasts In From A Galaxy Far, Far Away

The Force is strong with the stylish new Star Wars Spirit Jersey! Now available at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, is this galactic new jersey that lets you represent both the light side, and the dark side of The Force!

Star Wars Spirit Jersey Blasts In From A Galaxy Far, Far Away Star Wars Spirit Jersey Blasts In From A Galaxy Far, Far Away

The Spirit Jersey is a beautiful steely grey, that is a great hue for a Star Wars wardrobe. The Star Wars logo across the back of this top is a beautiful starry design of white stars against a black background. The back logo is also trimmed in gold puffed ink, which coordinates with the front. On the front the same shimmery gold puffed ink is used to create a split design that features half of the rebel icon, and half of the empire icon. I tend to lean towards The Dark Side, but I also love all the characters, so this is a great way to celebrate both! This jersey would be great for a comfy and casual outfit for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

You can find this new Star Wars Spirit Jersey at both Disneyland and Hollywood Studios, and it retails for $64.99.

Which side of The Force do you align with, or do you have trouble deciding between the two?

May The Force be with you!!

Special thanks to our friend Kai for these great photos!

Kevin Feige and Tom Holland Break Silence About Spider-Man Split

Kevin Feige and Tom Holland Break Silence About Spider-Man Split. After days of silence, both Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland have broken their silence about the Disney-Sony split that will separate Spider-Man from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy,” Feige explained to Entertainment Weekly. “We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland shared. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

There are plenty of reports stating that Disney and Sony are still in negotiations and that Sony has been more willing to talk after stocks began to plummet and investors began to panic after the initial reports came out about the split. We remain hopeful that an agreement can be made between Disney and Sony and that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man can stay in the MCU.

Kevin Feige and Tom Holland Break Silence About Spider-Man Split

Sony released a formal statement a few days after the news dropped, after a noticeable dip in stocks for the company following news of the Disney-Sony split and investors became concerned about the future of the studio.

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.  We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

Though Feige’s involvement in the franchise has seemingly ended, lead man Tom Holland and Director, Jon Watts, are reportedly still contracted for at least 2 more Spider-Man films with Sony. Producer Amy Pascal is said to take over Feige’s role in the Spider-Man films for Sony.

What do you think of the Disney-Sony split? Do you think it’s the end-all-be-all, or do you think they will be able to find a solution that both parties will be happy with? Would you boycott Sony and Sony Pictures if they pull Spider-Man from the MCU? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Marvel!
