Disney x Gucci Collection Celebrates The Lunar New Year Of The Mouse

For the upcoming Lunar New Year, Gucci’s creative Director Alessandro Michele will celebrate the Chinese Year of the Mouse with a specially designed Mickey collection! The new Year of The Mouse Disney x Gucci Collection will launch  January 3, 2020 in stores and online.

Campaign Shoot in Disneyland

This collection sits centre stage in a new campaign shot by photographer and director Harmony Korine and starring Gucci ambassador and actress Ni Ni, actor Earl Cave and musician, model and DJ Zoe Bleu Arquette. The imagery portrays a playful narrative that follows Mickey Mouse as he goes about his day in Disneyland.

Mickey heads out into the magical park where he entertains adoring Gucci-wearing fans of all ages and genders, and hangs out with his famous friends. The backdrop of Disney’s Magic Castle and rides like Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Tea Party, with its giant spinning tea cups, and the colourful walls, awnings and tiled roofs of the Disneyland buildings, help to create a Technicolor sphere in which Mickey and his guests goof around, eat popcorn and pose for pictures.

Colorful Energy

The colourful energetic imagery has the look of holiday postcards, and the eclectic, surreal spirit of today’s Gucci is perfectly at home among Disney’s famous cartoon-style fantasy world of theme park rides. Through Harmony Korine’s distinctive lens it is easy to see that when Gucci does Disneyland, everyone recaptures an uninhibited, childlike sense of fun.

Mickey, the most iconic of Disney’s characters, is playfully incorporated into ready-to-wear and diverse accessories from shoes and bags to small leather goods and scarves. Many new designs appear among an array of classic Gucci pieces. The collection has a humorous, vintage spirit, where Disney’s timeless star appears to team up with many of the House motifs.

Key to the Disney x Gucci Lunar New Year collection is a new material: the Mini GG Supreme canvas with Mickey Mouse print, a beige and ebony fabric that features a vintage Mini GG pattern with Mickey Mouse playfully applied to it in varying scale. This print has been introduced in reference to a House fabric from the ‘80s, and the original design, colour and look has been reproduced with high-definition digital printing. A protective coating and embossing give the appearance and texture of linen. A brown leather tag identifying the official collaboration with Disney included in many of the pieces.

GG Supreme Canvas

The pieces in the special Lunar New Year collection that feature the Mini GG Supreme canvas with Mickey Mouse print include handbags, small leather goods, luggage and women’s and men’s shoes. For women’s ready-to-wear, the Disney theme has been developed for numerous styles, while for menswear there are colourful prints, jacquard motifs and embroidered patches with Mickey Mouse featuring throughout. Accessories in the collection include silk accessories as well as a baseball cap, fedora hat and knitted hats and scarves, and, again, Mickey adorns these. He is also joined by Minnie on a bandana. The distinctive Gucci Grip watch also displays the playful Mickey Mouse motif, and, for jewelry, an enamel Mickey appears on sterling silver designs. Finally, there are also special sunglasses for Lunar New Year that reference the colours used in the rest of the collection.

Online Collection

A specially designed lineup of Lunar New Year accessories will also be available exclusively on Gucci.com, in addition to the entire collection, launching on January 3. Crafted in white matelassé quilted leather, they include two sizes of the GG Marmont bag, the zip around wallet and a card holder. Each piece features four colourful prints seen in women’s and men’s wear pieces, depicting Mickey Mouse in settings rendered in toile de Jouy style frames.

The Lunar New Year collection will be promoted across Gucci’s digital channels and selected Gucci stores worldwide featuring dedicated windows. Gucci Pins, ephemeral stores inspired by the pins seen on interactive digital maps, will also highlight the Lunar New Year items in several cities.

Bespoke entertainment will also be available on the Gucci App and on the several Gucci Pin façades, bringing the Mickey Mouse character to life for customers and passers-by who can see themselves wearing the signature Mickey Mouse ears on the screen, conceived as an enchanted mirror.

“Home Alone” Leaves Disney+

Home Alone

Home Alone
New year, new me. Right? Some Disney+ subscribers were surprised to see a changeup this new year. People are reporting that some films are no longer available on the streaming service.

So far we’ve discovered that a few major films are no longer available on Disney+. Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and The Sandlot are some of the films pulled from the digital library.

This comes as a surprise because Disney never mentioned their removal in advance. Many people were curious if Disney would ever vault some of the movies since it was never discussed. Subscribers started asking if more titles will be vaulted as new content is added to Disney+. Today, a Disney+ representative was quick to issue a statement in response to the outcry on social media. These shows were pulled due to some legal issues over legacy deals. They have to iron out the details, but it’s promised that these titles will return to Disney+ once those licenses expire.

Some new content was also recently added without any announcement. So far we know the 2007 movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer has been quietly added. It would certainly help Disney fans if updates were given about changes in what’s available on the streaming service.

We will post updates if we learn of other shows that get vaulted.

Zelda Williams Matches With ‘Genie’ on New Instagram Filter

Zelda Williams genie instagram

We are all for viral Disney trends– especially with a tear-jerker moment like the one that Zelda Williams recently experienced. She’s the daughter of the late great Disney icon, Robin Williams, and has more in common with her father than she thinks.

Zelda Williams Matches With ‘Genie’ on New Instagram Filter

Instagram has a new filter that tells users “what Disney character they are.” All you have to do is select the filter when in Instagram Stories, wait for the random Disney characters to flip through, and await your fate! (I just tried it and got Dumbo…fitting!)

Zelda decided to try the trend out for herself and matched with the Genie (the character that her father voiced). She was pretty shocked to say the least! She even posted the video of herself on her Twitter page with the caption, “Y’all…”

https://twitter.com/zeldawilliams/status/1211795727304642560

What a wonderful moment it must’ve been for her! Robin Williams- the OG Genie- would have been so proud.

A big thanks to the creator of this amazing Disney Instagram filter, Arno Partissimo, and for making this magical moment possible. What can I say…the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, right?

Disney Cruise Line Must Pay Former Employee $4 Million for Injuries

Disney Cruise Line owes former employee $4 million

A Brevard County Jury recently ruled that Disney Cruise Line is responsible for paying $4 million to Maria Ana Reis Martins, a former dining room server on the Disney Dream cruise ship.

According to the Miami Herald, Martins was working for Disney Cruise Line in 2013 when she was hit by a car in Nassau, Bahamas while on shore. The ship’s medical team did not find any severe injuries and approved her to continue work. It wasn’t until 10 days later when health issues started to pop up.

Martins eventually saw a doctor in Florida and found out that she had, indeed, broken three ribs and had to go home to Portugal for five months to receive the medical care she needed. Flash forward to a couple years later (2015) and Martins decides to go back to working for the Disney Cruise Line. She only makes it a month, however, before experiencing more pain in her ribs.

One trip back to her doctors in Portugal revealed that she was suffering from nerve damage. After finding this out, she decided to sue Disney Cruise Line in December 2015.

Finally, the case was brought to a Brevard County Jury (under Disney Cruise Line conditions) earlier this month. Martins’ attorney argued that Disney Cruise Line “failed to provide adequate medical care” to their client, while Disney Cruise Line refuted that “it had fulfilled its duties of care under maritime law.”

On Dec. 19, 2019 Disney Cruise Line had lost the case and is required to pay $1 million for pain and suffering, $2 million for lost earnings, and $1 million as punishment to Maria Ana Reis Martins.
