How To Make A Delicious Tonga Toast From Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Aloha! Get ready to transport yourself to Disney’s Polynesian Resort with this easy Tonga Toast recipe!

If you are missing having some delicious breakfast at Kona Cafe before going to the parks then this recipe will help you have a little piece of Disney magic at your own home.

It’s super easy to make! Take a look:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Strawberry Compote
    • 1 1/2 cup of chopped strawberries
    • 3 tbsp of sugar
    • 1 tbsp of lemon juice
    • 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract
  • Tonga Toast
    • 1 loaf of white bread unsliced
    • 2 bananas sliced
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 cup of heavy cream
    • 1 tbsp of sugar
    • 1 tsp of cinnamon
    • 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract
    • 1 cup of cinnamon sugar
    • Vegetable oil for frying
    • Sliced strawberries for serving
    • Maple syrup for serving

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Strawberry Compote
    • Combine the strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and vanilla in a small skillet over medium heat
    • Let it simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until the strawberries begin to break down and the mixture has slightly thickened
    • Remove from hear and gently mash the compote with the back of a fork or potato masher
  • Tonga Toast
    • Slice the bread into 3 to 4 thick pieces. Using a knife create a slit in one side of the bread slice and stuff with banana slices
    • Mix the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Then dunk each stuffed bread slice into the mixture coating all sides
    • Heat 1/4″ of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once is hot, add the battered bread and cook for about 2 minutes per side or until is crispy and golden all over
    • Remove the bread and let it drain on a wire rack, then cover with cinnamon sugar
    • Serve and garnish with fresh strawberries, strawberry compote and maple syrup!
